He was shot and killed by Joseph Evans, a watchman for private oyster grounds. He lived on Mockhorn Island, near Cape Charles, for the past 3 years, was gathering clams on private property to prepare a meal for himself, was shot with both barrels of a shotgun. He was survived by 3 children, Mrs. Hance Crockett and Mrs. Frank Dize of Tangier Island and a son, Thomas Gibbons of Baltimore. Burial was at Tangier. (Accomack News, Onancock, 26 Mar 1910.)6

Obituary - Father's*22 March 1910She was named in her father's obituary on 22 March 1910 at Oyster, Northampton Co, VA. John Gibbons died Tuesday at the age of 80 years. He was shot and killed by Joseph Evans, a watchman for private oyster grounds. He lived on Mockhorn Island, near Cape Charles, for the past 3 years, was gathering clams on private property to prepare a meal for himself, was shot with both barrels of a shotgun. He was survived by 3 children, Mrs. Hance Crockett and Mrs. Frank Dize of Tangier Island and a son, Thomas Gibbons of Baltimore. Burial was at Tangier. (Accomack News, Onancock, 26 Mar 1910.)9

John Gibbons died Tuesday at the age of 80 years. He was shot and killed by Joseph Evans, a watchman for private oyster grounds. He lived on Mockhorn Island, near Cape Charles, for the past 3 years, was gathering clams on private property to prepare a meal for himself, was shot with both barrels of a shotgun. He was survived by 3 children, Mrs. Hance Crockett and Mrs. Frank Dize of Tangier Island and a son, Thomas Gibbons of Baltimore. Burial was at Tangier. (Accomack News, Onancock, 26 Mar 1910.)4

Death*26 July 1879He died on 26 July 1879 at Tangier Island, St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Major Evans, who died of whooping caugh at the age of 2 years (evidently 2 months). He was the son of George E. & Ann Evans. The information was given by a friend Henry L. Crockett.2

Sussex Co, PA, sold to Burton Waples of Sussex Co., blacksmith, 408 ½ a., part of three tracts surveyed and laid out to Richard Bundock, 400 a. and 300 a. more residue by virtue of a warrant granted to Marthew Ozborn on 24 June 1682... conveyed to Robert Burton, Senr. in 1715 and he by his will dated 16 Sep 1724 bequeathed the tract to his wife Comfort and three daughters Sarah, Ann and Patience, wife of Paul Waples. 408 ½ a. fell to Paull Waples and his wife Patience.3
