Anecdote*1869 Joseph B. Lynch (1840-1900), a native of Sussex Co, DE, moved his family to Chincoteague by as early as 1869. He was a member first of the downtown Methodist church, then of independent Goodwill, and finally of Goodwill when it became a Methodist church. In 1887 he became "deeply convinced that he could not be saved without holiness." He sought and obtained the blessing of sactification by the power of the Holy Ghost . . . and immediately commenced preaching and teaching to all whom he had the opportunity.2

He owned and operated a store at Spence. He was the son of the late Peter and Annie Mason of Stockton. Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie P. Mason, Spence; two daughters, Mrs. Wilson Taylor, Stockton, and Mrs. Norman Tarr, Snow Hill; six sons, Philip C. Mason, Philadelphia, Obed P. Mason, Fargo, N. Dak., M. Sgt. H. Clay Mason, Aberdeen, James H. Mason, Springville, Utah, Peter P. Mason Jr., Memphis, Tenn., and William W. Mason, Woodbridge, Va; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Fleming, Stockton; 19 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Clay E. Dennis Funeral Home, Snow Hill, with the Rev. Alex Booth Jr., pastor of Spence Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Methodist Cemetery at Stockton.
