Will - Grfath's*2 September 1806Michael was named in his grandfather's will on 2 September 1806 at Northampton Co, VA. In his will Rickards Dunton Senr lent all his estate to sons George Dunton and Dickie Dunton during their natural lives and at their decease to their male heirs. If my sons George Dunton and Dickey Dunton should die without such heirs as have been heretofore mentioned then after their decease I lend all my estate to my sons William Dunton and Daniel Dunton. If my sons William Dunton and Daniel Dunton should die without such heirs then after their decease I lend all my estate to my grandsons Levin Dunton Jr. and Michael Dunton, the former the son of my son Levin Dunton and the latter the son of my son Isaac Dunton. It is my will that whoever is in possession of my land when my granddaughter Sukey Douman shall arrive at lawful age or is married shall pay her ten pounds. I do hereby appoint my son George Dunton executor. Signed with his mark, Rickards Dunton. Witnesses: John H. Harmanson, Joseph Nottingham and Ann (her mark) Nottingham. In probate, the will was contested, unsuccessfully, by Michael Dunton.1

Death*1 April 1861He died on 1 April 1861 at Drummond's Mill-Pond, Accomack Co, VA. Distressing Casualty - On Monday of last week, Wm. M. Churn, of Accomac county, Va., was accidentally drowned in Drummond's mill-pond, while returning in a skiff from a small island, and when within twenty yards of the shore. No rescue could reach him, although his wife was standing on the bank at the time.4

Corbin, a business mand and agent of the Adams Express Company, died here on Tuesday. He is an uncle of Mr. Ralph Taylor, of Baltimore, who has arrieved her to attend the funeral.1

Mr. Field was the son of the late Dr. John W. Field and his wife Emily Corbin Field, of Accomack County. Dr. Field was an assistant surgeon during the War Between the States. At the close of the war he moved to Golden City, MO, where Mr. Field was born. Shortly after Mr. Field was born his parents moved back to Virginia and settled on Chincoteague. While residing on Chincoteague Dr. Field and his brother, the late Samuel M. Field purchased protions of Assateague Beach. Samuel B. Field bought out their holdings and also bought other parts of the Island as the opportunity presented itself. At the time of his death he was the owner of practically the entire Island, which is noted for its very valuable oyster lands and hunting grounds for wild water fowl. Mr. Field was President of Stuart Keith & Co., manufacturers of overalls. This company had its main factory in Baltimore and branch factory in Petersburg, VA. The Baltimore factory was closed when Mr. Field was taken ill several years ago. Funeral services were held in Baltimore, MD, Thursday, Sept 11th and interment was in the family plot in Lorraine Cemetery. Mr. Field was a member of the Congressional Country Club in Washington, DC and of the Baltimore Country Club. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. W.M. Burwell, of Chincoteague, VA, and one brother, Mr. John Field.1

The bride wore a traveling gown of blue velour, trimmed in beaver, with hat to match, and her corsage bouquet was of violets. Her only attendant was Miss Virginia Hanna of Baltimore. Mr. J.T. White Jr. of Parksley, Va., was best man. The guests included a number from out of town. After a wedding supper Mr. and Mrs. Byrd left for Atlantic City and the North. They will reside in Parksley and will be "at home" after February 15. Mr. Byrd is a son of Mr. C.L. Bryd, of Parksley, Va. and is extensively engaged in farming. He is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and Johns Hopkins University and is a Kappa Sigma man.1

(Peatie) Hall, Jr., passed away peacefully on October 19, 2017, with her family by her side. Born on April 12, 1936, in Belle Haven, she was the daughter of the late Lucy T. Mears and Clarence L. Mears. She grew up in the Belle Haven area and graduated from Central High School, where she enjoyed math and playing shortstop on the softball team. She married Stewart on April 30, 1955, shortly after he returned home from military service, and they were happily married for over 62 years. She worked at J.J. Newberry in Pocomoke for 15 years before taking time off to raise her children at home. Ann later went back to work as a rural mail carrier in the New Church area for 25 years. Ann enjoyed helping Stewart with their bike shop and particularly seeing the smiles on the children’s faces when their parents picked up their new bicycles. She was a tireless worker in their vegetable garden and berry patch, which after many years approached an acre in size. She loved flowers, birds, and watching all things grow. Ann was a long-time member of Berea United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 36 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their daughter, Debra S. Lewis and husband, Gary; son, Stewart M. Hall and wife, Kathleen; grandchildren, Garrett Lewis, Hunter Lewis, Morgan Hall, and Erin Hall; and many nieces and nephews. One of 9 children born to Lucy and Clarence, she is survived by a sister, Meme Lee Mason; two brothers, Maxwell Mears and Bobby Mears and companion, Shirley; and sister-in-law Ilse Mears. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at 2:00PM at Atlantic United Methodist Church with Rev. Arum Kim officiating. Interment will follow in the Downings Cemetery in Oak Hall. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8PM at the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, P.O. Box 615, Onley, VA 23418. Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, VA.
