She was shown as Mary E. Von Canon, a 24 year old wife in a household headed by J. Fred Von Canon, age 27.² In a letter dated 3 Oct 1958 to Mark C. Lewis of Parksley, VA from Elizabeth (Mrs. Fred) Von Canon, 642 Sunset Drive, Sanford, NC she stated that there two Grinnald brothers who were supposed to have been an important part of an Expedition to the Artic, and two (or one) islands in the northern area carries their name. Then in a letter dated 26 Jan 1959 she said her 88 year old Aunt Mattie Fitzhugh may have mixed up the Hills, Hogwoods & Grinnalds when she told her about the two brothers who are supposed to have gone to the north pole. She went on to mention a Jim Grinalds and his sister Erin, who were the son and daughter of Richard Grinnalds, the brother of Tabitha. They lived in Portsmouth and both had large families. Erin married a Nichols and her son is a Roy Nichols who if living now was noted for the wonderful rose garden and some years back exhibited at the flower shows. She went on to say her Aunt Mattie also remembers when Cape Charles had Fairs with racing. She recalls attending Fairs with her father and seeing a Jeff Grinnalds on several ocassions.³ She died on 18 November 2002 at Sanford, Lee Co, NC, at age 98.¹

     James Frederick Von Canon was born on 16 April 1903 at North Carolina.¹ He married Mary Elizabeth Hogwood, daughter of John Henry Hogwood Jr. and Missouri Parker Andrews, on 5 January 1930 at Cape Charles, N'hamp Co, VA.¹ James was listed as a head of household in the census of 1930 at Mineral Springs, Moore Co, NC. He was shown as J. Fred Von Canon, age 27 & born in NC. Listed with him was his wife Mary E. Von Canon, age 24.²

He was shown as grandson John T. Scott in the will of Ann Bonewell.⁵ He married Elizabeth Sabra Harmanson on 25 May 1840 at Northampton Co, VA. Edward P. Roberts was the security on the M.L.B. of John T. Scott and Elizabeth Sabra Harmanson. They were married on 27 May 1840.³ John was listed as a head of household in the census of 1850 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as John T. Scott the head of HH#370, a 33 year old farmer with real estate valued at $18,000. Listed with him were the following Scotts: Thomas M., age 14; Mary A., age 18; John W., age 9. Also listed were Obediah Hamby, age 19 and Joakim Hamby, age 14.⁶ John was listed as a head of household in the census of 1860 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as John T. Scott the head of HH#386, a 43 year old farmer. Listed with him was Thomas M. Scott, age 24; J. Woodson Scott, age 19; Mary J. Nottingham, age 41; Joakim W. Hanby, age 25.⁷ He died on 20 May 1886 at Waterford, Hungars Creek, South of Bridgetown, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 69.¹ John was buried at Waterford, Hungars Creek, South of Bridgetown, N'hamp Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as John T. Scott, 3 Feb 1817 - 20 May 1886. He died at his home "Waterford." He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.¹

     Elizabeth Sabra Harmanson was born on 8 July 1812.² As of 25 May 1840,her married name was Scott.¹ She married John Thomas Scott, son of Thomas M. Scott and Susannah 'Sukey' Hunt, on 25 May 1840 at Northampton Co, VA. Edward P. Roberts was the security on the M.L.B. of John T. Scott and Elizabeth Sabra Harmanson. They were married on 27 May 1840.¹ Elizabeth Sabra Harmanson died on 30 September 1843 at age 31.² Elizabeth was buried at Waterford, Hungars Creek, South of Bridgetown, N'hamp Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Elizabeth Sabra Scott, wife of J.T., 8 Jul 1812 - 30 Sep 1843.²

     Thomas M. Scott was born circa 1790 at Northampton Co.¹ He married Susannah 'Sukey' Hunt on 8 April 1816 at Northampton Co, VA. Walter Luker & (W?) Williams were the security on the M.L.B. of Thomas Scott and Sukey Hunt. They were married on 11 Apr 1816.⁴ Thomas made a will on 22 October 1818 at Northampton Co, VA. It is my wish my wife Susannah enjoy my personal property during her widowhood for the benefit of her & my child, John T. Scott & likewise the child with which she is now pregnant. It is my wish that my half the Schr Bee be retained & kept in employ for the purpose of supporting my dearly beloved wife & child or children. It is my wish my personal property be sold except the above mentioned beaureau & a bed & in order to pay my just debts and the balance to be placed in the hands of Obadiah Hunt for the benefit of my child or children. In case my child or children & wife should die before said Obadiah Hunt I then leave him my lawful heir. I do hereby appoint Obadiah Hunt my executor. My 2 Negroes Jane & Solomon I wish not to be sold but retained for the use of my child or children. Signed with his mark, Thomas M. Scott. Witnesses: E. M. Miccue and S. H. It was on this date that Anne Outten brought suit against against the estate of Archibald Garrison for £174:05:05 1/2 current Virginia money that she had loaned him.
