John Studson II was born circa 1646 at Northampton Co, VA.1 John was named as an heir on 11 November 1653 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that John Robinson Sr. gave by deed of gift to John Robinson Jr., to his (John Robinson Sr.'s) son William Robinson, and to the children of John Studson dec'd, viz: John Studson and Mary Studson. (Marshall's Note: John Studson the son of Mary the wife of Robert Warder is referred to and by 31 Dec 1650 John Robinson had married the wife of Robert Warder.).1 He patented land on 6 March 1653/54 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that there was an unrecorded patent to John Studson for 250 acres of tract A37 (west side of Keller), which was reissued to him in 1661. Nugent shows a patent was issued on 6 Mar 1653/54 to John Studson (or Hudson) for 250 acres in N'hamp begining at land of John Robins & running towards land of Tho. Johnson. (NOTE: Since John Studson I was shown to be dec'd by 1649 or 1650, it is assumed this patent was actually awarded to his son and heir-at-law John Studson II.).2,3 He was on the list of tithables at Accomack Co, VA, in 1663. He was shown as Jno. Stutson with 4 tiths.4 On 17 Aug 1663 Mary Paramore, formerly Mary Studson, and her son John Studson requested in open court that Col. Edm. Scarburgh evaluate their 250 acres of land in Arrococo Neck and to do as he sees fit concerning their land lying between Mr. Hugh Yeo and Mr. Tho. Fookes.5 He was on the list of tithables at Accomack Co, VA, in 1664. He was shown as Jno. Studson with 3 tiths.6 He died before 16 September 1665 at Accomack Co, VA. John Studson, who recently died, had owned cattle that were now in the possession of Mary Paramore. The cattle derived from a heifer and cow calf given to Studson by John Robinson, deceased, on the condition that the cattle return to Robinson if Studson were to die in his minority without issue. Capt. Jno. Custis, on behalf of Robinson's orphans, petitioned the court for the return of the cattle. Ordered that Mary Paramore deliver the cattle and pay court costs. The Northampton County deed of gift, signed 11 November 1653, by John Robinson, planter, specified the following: - to his son John Robinson, Jr.: one red cow called Husse, one black heifer, one pied cow calf, to have forever - to his son Wm. Robinson: one pied heifer, to have forever - to John Studson, son of John Studson, deceased: one pregnant red heifer, one brown cow calf, to have under the same conditions as Mary.
- to Mary Studson, daughter of John Studson, deceased: one pregnant red and white cow, to have forever unless she died in her minority or without issue, then the cattle and their increase would return to John Robinson, Sr., or his heirs. Witnessed by Thomas Johnson and Alphonsus Ball. Recorded by Edm. Mathews. (NOTE: So evidently he died under age and without heirs and so his circa birth year of 1646 seems reasonable.).7

He was shown as Robt. Peale with 1 tith.3 He married Rose (5) Yeardley, daughter of Col. Argoll (3) Yeardley (I) and Frances Knight, before 2 July 1683 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Rose (the widow & admr of Mr. Thomas Ryding) had married Robert Peele (attorney: Cha. Holden), who sued Jonathan Newton (attorney: Mr. Anderson). Since no one appeared who was legally qualified to prosecute, the suit was dismissed with the Peels paying court costs.1,4 Robert Peale sold land in 1685 at Northampton Co, VA. In 1666 a patent was issued to Thomas Rideing for 1,000 acres at Occocomson; it was northeast of A141 and extended from the seaboard across the seaside road to the head-branch of Assawaman Creek. 1680 Thomas and Rose (Yardley) Ryding sold 300 acres at the south end to Nathaniel Ratcliffe, who in 1707 resold to Thomas Preeson of Northampton. After the death of her first husband, Rose married Robert Peale, and in 1685 they sold the 700-acres balance to John Custis of Hungars. However, as the Rydings had had no children, the title to the 700 acres was recovered by a William Rydeing of Westerbye, Lancaster, England, and in 1696 he sold it to Thomas Preeson. The deed stated that William was the nephew and heir of Thomas, who was the brother and Heir of Hugh; this seems a little involved, but in any event his right to the title and sale was good.5 Robert Peale predated Thomas Peale, having been in Somerset since at least March of 1690/91, (Somerset court records).6 On 21 Jun 1693 Robert Peale gave a deposition in Maryland in support of George Layfield, who claimed a debt had been paid.7 Robert Peale lived with Thomas Peale between 1723 and 1727, in Somerset County, MD, (tax lists).6

Elias Hartree1

M, b. 1608, d. before 11 September 1665
Elias Hartree was born in 1608.2 He patented land in 1640 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that a patent was granted to Thomas Wyatt for 400 acres of tract N69 (just north of Bridgetown). Shortly there after Wyatt assigned his land to Richard Smith, he to Michael Rickards and he to Elias Hartree. Then in 1642 a patent was issued to James Perenne for 400 acres which were given the samed bounds as the land previously granted to Wyatt. James Perrin sold half of his land with the houses to Elias Hartrit. Then in 1647 commissioners were appointed to divide his land between Elias Hartree and William Parry. In 1652 a patent was issued to Elias Hartree for 200 acres which was the southern part of the tract, on the head branch of Hungars Creek. Then in 1664 a patent was issued to Hartree for 600 acres, 200 said to have been assigned by Wyatt and 400 by Perenne. It was reissued the next year. In 1669 a patent was issued to Colonel William Kendall and Captain William Spencer for the 600 acres formerly granted to Hartree and escheated. (NOTE: Hartree died in 1665 and his wife Jane in 1666.).3,4 On 9 Oct 1644 in the will of Mathew Pett it was noted that my son's portion already disposed of by deed of gift into the hands of Elias Hartrit. John Little, Nicholas Granger and Elias Hartrit also witnessed this will.5 He married Jane Cutting, daughter of John Cutting I and (-----) (-----), circa 1645.1 Sometime between 1645 and 1651 Elias Hartree gave deed of gift to his goddaughter Jane Bishop, the daughter of Henry Bishop.6 On 10 Feb 1646 the estate of James Perreene, planter, at Nuswattocks formerly belonging to the dec'd was now to be divided by William Parrey and Eias Hartree.7 He was shown as Elias Hartree, age 40, when he gave a deposition in Nov 1648, which puts his birth at 1608.2 On 30 Mar 1651 Elias Hartree was on a list of men who promised to be faithful to the Commonwealth of England as it is now established without King or House of Lords.8 Elias Hartree patented land in 1653 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that a patent on tract N67 (between Bridgetown and Marionville) was granted to Michael Richetts for 200 acres. A few years later an undated patent was issued to Thomas Boutracie, stating that Ricketts had assigned to Elias Hartree, be back to Ricketts, and then he to Boutracie.9 On 28 Apr 1654 John Browne, Richard Jacob, John Tilney and Elias Hartrey were named to appraise the estate of Thomas Fludd.10 On 4 Nov 1661 Nicholas Spratling a servant to Eliza Hartree was buried.11 Elias witnessed a will on 17 June 1663 at Hungars Parish, N'hamp Co, VA. ChartsAncestors of William Taylor White (the Boy in the Iron Coffin)
Levin 'Leavin' Denwood I was born in 1602 at England.1 He patented land in 1636 at Old Plantation Neck, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that a patent was issued to Lewin Denwood for 150 acres of tract N30 (Old Plantation Neck). In 1641 the Roger Saunders 300 acres was now owned by George Traveller and this Denwood piece also was found to be a part of it and the court ruled that Traveller was to have possession of it at the expiration of a 7-year lease which Denwood had given to John Seaverne Chirurgion.2 He was shown as Leavin Denwood, age 33 in Jan 1635/36 in N'hamp Co, VA.1 Levin was named as an appraiser of an estate on 7 May 1638 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Liveing Denwood and John Harlow were named to appraise the estate of Edward Roach, widow Elizabeth.3 He married Mary Cutting (Cutting?) circa 1640 at Northampton Co, VA.4 Levin 'Leavin' Denwood I patented land in 1640 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Liveing Denwood was issued a patent for 600 acres of tract N79 (at Bayford on the south side of Nassawadox Creek). His given name later became Levin, which is common on the Shore today. Denwood was a Quaker and in early days often was in trouble with the court as he was suspected of harboring Quakers on their way up to Maryland. He and his wife Mary moved there themselves and he died some time after 1663. Among other children they had a son Levin, who in herited the title to this land, and a daughter Susanna who married the neighbor Thomas Browne as reported. In 1642 Edmund Scarburgh testified that Denwood had given 100 acres at the east end of his land to William Cole, but no deed was ever given. This 100 acres became merged with N80 for a while.4 Levin was named as an appraiser of an estate on 29 June 1647 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that John Browne, Levin Denwood, Garrett Anderson & Richard Bayly were named to appraise the estate of Henry Peddenton.5 Levin witnessed a will on 26 August 1647 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Leinng Denwood alone witnessed the will of Garrett Anderson, wife Amey.6 Levin was named as an appraiser of an estate on 29 November 1649 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Levyne Denwood, Ambrose Dixon & Richard Newell were named to appraise the estate of Francis Gibbe, widow Elizabeth.7 On 25 Mar 1651 Levyne Denwood was on a list of men who promised to be faithful to the Commonwealth of England as it is now established without King or House of Lords.8 Levin was named as an heir on 28 October 1654 at Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA. It was on this date that Stephen Charleton, Gent. of Nuswattocks, left to the youngest child of Levyne Denwood one ewe lamb.9 He was named as the executor of a will on 25 October 1658 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Livinge Denwood, Richard Baylie, Stephen Horse & William Jordan were named Extrs in the will of John Ellis.10 He died after 1663 at Somerset Co, MD. Whitelaw shows that Levin Denwood and his wife Mary moved to Maryland and he died there some time after 1663.4
