My will and desire is that my loving wife should keep my four children and bring them up. In case she should marry or die then my will & desire is that the whole of the property lent to her should be equally divided between my four children. I appoint Robertson Custis executor. John Ross was the security on the M.L.B. of Andrew James and Sally James.³ Sally was named as an heir on 9 December 1822 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Sally James, the widow of Andrew James and as Sarah James in right of Dower.⁴ Sally made a will on 27 November 1828 at Northampton Co, VA. I Sally James of Accomack, Virginia give and bequeath the whole of my estate to my grand daughter Maria Scott to she and her heirs forever provided she arrive to lawful age or has a lawful heir. But should she die without a lawful heir or under age I leave the above property to be equally divided between my three grandchildren namely; John T. James of Robt, Thomas T. James of Abel and John A. Dowty of James Dowty: but for the share of Jas Dowty's son never to come into his hands but to be put out on int. until he shall become of lawful age unless my daughter Susan should be left a widow & then I'm willing that she should have the use of the above property. I constitute and appoint Saml S. Stott my whole and sole executor. Signed with her mark, Sally James. Witnesses: Saml S. The said Robert James, the half brother of Michael James, has died intestate leaving the following heirs-at-law, viz: his children Thomas James & Ainsley Dennis, formerly Ainsley James, and the following grandchildren, viz: William Oague, who was the only child of his dec'd daughter Susan Oague, formerly Susan James, also Robert D. James, Abel James, Susan Dowty the wife of James Dowty, and one great grandchild, viz: Maria Scott, the only child of Maria Scott dec'd; the said Robert O.      Susannah 'Sukey' Smith was born circa 1780 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ As of 25 September 1798,her married name was James.¹ She married William James, son of Hezekiah James and Sabra Simkins, 25 Sep 1798 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Thomas James was the security on the M.L.B. of William James and Sukey Smith.¹ Susannah was named in her husband's will on 28 January 1826 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my wife Susannah James in the will of William James.² She died before 9 August 1830 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Susan James was granted to John S. James.³

     John S. James was born circa 1800 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ John was named in his father's will on 28 January 1826 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son John S. James in the will of William James, wife Susannah.¹ He married Margaret C. James, daughter of William D. James and Margaret Major, 09 Oct 1827 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Arthur R. Savage was the security on the M.L.B. of John S. James and Margaret C. James, ward of Margaret Savage who gave consent. Jeptha Johnson & Hez. P. James witnesses.² John was named as administrator of an estate on 9 August 1830 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Susan James was granted to John S. James.³ He sold land in 1837 at Northampton Co, VA. In 1822 Thomas James gave a deed of trust for the 150-acres balance of his part of N112 to William James (his brother), who apparently foreclosed, and title passed to a son John S. James, and in 1837 he and his wife Margaret C. James sold to Edward N. Johnson.⁴ He sold land in 1838 at Northampton Co, VA. In 1825 William James bought 338 acres of tract N98 from Edmund and Sally Roberts and the next year he (wife Susannah) left it to his son John S. James. In 1838 John S. & his wife Margaret C. James sold to John Y. Johnson and 6 years later he resold to William Costin Sr.⁵ He was the security on a M.L.B. On 3 June 1838 at Northampton Co, VA. John S. James was the security on the M.L.B. of Dr. Robert S. Trower and Miss Sally A. James, his ward. They were married on 8 Jun 1838.²

     William Ira James was born on 9 January 1807 at Northampton Co, VA.² William was named in his father's will on 28 January 1826 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son William Ira James in the will of William James, wife Susannah.¹ He married Elizabeth A. Johnson, daughter of Jeptha Johnson and Rosanna 'Rosey' James, 12 Mar 1834 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Hez P. James was the security on the M.L.B. of William J. (Ira?) and Elizabeth A. Johnson, daughter of Jeptha Johnson who gave consent. Margaret Savage was a witness. They were married on 16 Mar 1834.³ William was listed as a head of household in the census of 1850 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as William J. James the head of HH#621, a 43 year old farmer with real estate valued at $4,000. Listed with him was Elizabeth James, age 36 and Peggy Savage, age 70. All were born in N'hamp Co.⁴ He died on 17 May 1852 at age 45.² William was buried at Royal Rest, Northampton Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as William Ira James, 9 Jan 1807 - 17 May 1852, who died age 45 years, 4 months & 8 days.²

     Hezekiah Pettit James was born on 13 May 1809 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 Hezekiah was named in his father's will on 28 January 1826 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Hezekiah P. James in the will of William James, wife Susannah. He was left part of tract N102 & N115.^1,5 He was the security on a M.L.B. On 12 March 1834 at Northampton Co, VA. Hez P. James was the security on the M.L.B. of William J. (Ira?) and Elizabeth A. Johnson, daughter of Jeptha Johnson who gave consent. Margaret Savage was a witness. They were married on 16 Mar 1834.⁶ He married Margaret T. Trower, daughter of John Trower and Delitha Belote, 11 Jun 1838 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. John Trower Sr. was the security on the M.L.B. of Hezekiah P. James and Margaret Trower, daughter of said John Trower Sr. John S. James as to Hezekiah's age. They were married on 13 Jun 1838.^6,4 Hezekiah was listed as a head of household in the census of 1850 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Hezekiah P. James the head of HH#650, a 41 year old farmer with real estate valued at $6,000. Listed with him were the following Jameses: Margarett, age 35; Delitha, age 10; Susan A., age 8; William, age 6; Virginia S., age 5; John R., age 3 and Samuel M., age 1.⁷ He married Lavina C. Floyd, daughter of William Floyd Sr. and Frances Hallett, on 1 July 1869 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Hezekiah P. James, a 60 year old widowed farmer, the son of Wm & Susan James and she was shown as Lavinia C. James, a 45 year old widow, the daughter of Wm & Frances Floyd. They were married in Accomack County.⁸ Hezekiah Pettit James died on 5 February 1885 at age 75.^3,4 Hezekiah was buried at Royal Rest, Northampton Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Hezekiah P. James, 13 May 1809 - 5 Feb 1885, who died age 76 years, 1 month & 22 days.³

     Andrew James was born circa 1775 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ The assignment of his father as Stewart James is based soley on his name being Andrew, the thought being he was named after his grandfather Andrew Stewart. He married Sally James, daughter of Robert James and (-----) (-----), 23 Jan 1800 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. John Ross was the security on the M.L.B. of Andrew James and Sally James.¹ Andrew James was the security on a M.L.B. On 3 February 1812 at Northampton Co, VA. Andrew James was the security on the M.L.B. of Arthur Addison and Rosey James. They were married on 5 Feb 1812.¹ He died before 9 December 1822 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Andrew James was granted to Robert A. James. Bond $4000. Sally James, the widow, relinquished her right to the administration. It is my desire that my executor should make sale of all my personal estate except my Negro boy Robbin and pay all my just debts if that will be sufficient and in case my personal estate should not be enough to pay all my just debts it is my wish that my executor should sell a part or all of my land at private or publick sale as he may think most to the advantage of my children. It is also my desire that the remaining part of my estate should be applied to the raising & schooling my children until they may arrive at a proper age to learn a trade and when the youngest that may live to be of lawful age for the balance to be equally divide among them. If none of my children should not leave a lawful heir of their body nor none arrive at lawful age it is my desire that my sister Elizabeth Sanbrough should have two thirds of my estate and the remaining equally divided between Michael A.      John Ewing was born circa 1765 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ John witnessed a will on 29 November 1783 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that John Burton, John Ewing & Nicklas Cammel witnessed the will of Michael Christian.² He married Jane Holbrooke 28 Nov 1785 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Maddox Andrews was the security on the M.L.B. of John Ewing and Jane Holbrooke. (John Lewis) Fulwell gave consent for John.³ John was named as an appraiser of an estate on 15 October 1788 at Northampton Co, VA.      Elizabeth 'Betsy' Ewing was born circa 1763 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ As of 20 July 1787,her married name was Jenne.² She married William Jenne on 20 July 1787 at Northampton Co, VA. David Jones was the security on the M.L.B. of William Jenne and Betsy Ewing.² As of 2 December 1794,her married name was Savage.² Elizabeth 'Betsy' Ewing married Caleb Savage, son of Nathaniel Savage and Henrietta (-----), on 2 December 1794 at Northampton Co, VA. Major Pettit was the security on the M.L.B. of Caleb Savage and Elizabeth Jenne.² Elizabeth was named as an heir on 13 May 1833 at Northampton Co, VA. On 13 May 1833 it was recorded that Michael James who was a Lieutenant in the Virginia State Navy in Rev. War died intestate, leaving one child who died shortly after the death of her father, an infant intestate & without issue. Michael James left no other child or descendant or any other child. The said Michael James left at his death the following brothers & sisters who are his heirs-at-law, and no other brothers or sisters or descendants of any other brother or sister: Bridget James & Susan Savage, formerly Susan James who were sisters of the whole blood to said Michael James; and five brothers & sisters of the half blood, viz: Thomas James, Robert James, Peggy Bool, Elizabeth Savage and John Ewing. The said Elizabeth Savage, the half-sister of the said Michael James is now living.¹ She died before 13 June 1836 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Mrs. Elizabeth Savage was granted to Caleb Savage.³ Elizabeth was named as an heir on 12 April 1852 at Northampton Co, VA. Elizabeth Savage, one of the heirs of Michael James, who was a Lieutenant in the Rev. War, died intestate leaving Caleb Savage, Elizabeth Savage, Polly Savage, Hester Janny and Robert Savage her only heirs-at-law. Caleb Savage is dead, leaving a widow and Caleb R. Savage, Sally Savage, Rosey Savage, Franklin Savage and Thomas Savage his only children and heirs-at-law. Elizabeth Savage married William Ridly and died intestate leaving William Ridly, John Ridly, Elizabeth Ridly, Rosanna Ridly, Arinthia Ridly and Louisanna Ridly her only children and heirs-at-law. Polly Savage married Edmund Johnson and died intestate, leaving John H. Johnson her only heir-at-law, and Hester Janny died intestate, leaving William Savage and Elizabeth Savage her only heirs at law. The said William Savage died intestate, leaving Leonard, Teackle, Thomas & Margaret Savage his only heirs-at-law.⁴

     Stephen Waltham was born circa 1740 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ He married Margaret 'Peggy' James, daughter of Robert James and Ansley Savage, circa 1770 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Stephen made a will on 29 May 1773 at Northampton Co, VA. To my loving wife Margaret 6 new pewter plates, 2 pewter dishes, mare "Doll", safe, linen wheel and loom and all the weaving harness. To my dau. Sarah Waltham the title to n. Nell left me by my father John Waltham in his will, but if Sarah dies without heirs then Sarah's estate to be div. by my brothers after wife's death. Wife and my brother John extrs. Witt: Obediah Johnson, Eborn Heath, Zorobabel Heath.¹ He died before 13 October 1773 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated.¹

     Thomas Addison was born circa 1730 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Thomas was named in his father's will on 17 October 1748 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Thomas in the will of Thomas Addison Sr., wife Sabra.² He married (-----) (-----) circa 1754.³ Thomas Addison married Margaret 'Peggy' James, daughter of Robert James and Ansley Savage, 14 Oct 1775 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Edw'd Turner was the security on the M.L.B. of Thomas Addison and Margaret Waltham, widow.¹ Thomas made a will on 2 August 1786 at Northampton Co, VA. To loving wife Margaret chair horse and chair, Nel and Tony, 1/2 of all my land during her widowhood, one chest that she had when I married her, and n. Jacob. To my four youngest children Robert, Betsy, William and Peggy each £30. To son Thomas the land where I now live and my still. To son Kendall my land at T.B., £20, and mare "Lady". Remaining estate to be eq. div. by all the children, viz., Patience, Sally, Thomas, Prissy, Kendall, Robert, Betsy, William and Peggy. Wife and my son Kendall extrs. The said Michael James left at his death the following brothers & sisters who are his heirs-at-law, and no other brothers or sisters or descendants of any other brother or sister: Bridget James & Susan Savage, formerly Susan James who were sisters of the whole blood to said Michael James; and five brothers & sisters of the half blood, viz: Thomas James, Robert James, Peggy Bool, Elizabeth Savage and John Ewing. The said Peggy Bool has died intestate leaving three children, viz: Wm. Addison, Elizabeth Bunting & Robert Addison, the said Robert Addison has since died intestate leaving children whose names are unkown to the Court.⁵

     Margaret 'Peggy' Addison was born circa 1782 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Margaret was named in her father's will on 2 August 1786 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as one of my 4 youngest children Peggy in the will of Thomas Addison, wife Margaret.¹ Margaret was named in her mother's will on 29 May 1802 at St. Georges Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Margaret Addison and given £80 in the will of Margaret Bull.²

     John Bull was born circa 1750.¹ He married Priscillah 'Prissy' Addison, daughter of Thomas Addison and (-----) (-----), 11 Jun 1776 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Hez. Pitts was the security on the M.L.B. of John Bool and Priscillah Addison, daughter of Thos. Addison, who gave consent. Jno. Waltham & Jno. Turner witnesses.¹

     Charles W. Bull was born circa 1788 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Charles was named in his mother's will on 29 May 1802 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Charles W. Bull in the will of Margaret Bull. He was given £100 to be lent out until he arrives to age 21.¹

     Isaac Waterfield was born circa 1775 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Addison, daughter of Thomas Addison and Margaret 'Peggy' James, 16 Mar 1801 (bond) at Accomack Co, VA. Elijah Hancock was the security on the M.L.B. of Isaac Waterfield and Betsey Addison.¹

     Isma Bunting was born circa 1775.¹ He married (-----) (-----) circa 1800. Isma Bunting married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Addison, daughter of Thomas Addison and Margaret 'Peggy' James, 29 Jul 1816 (bond) at Accomack Co, VA. Samuel Henderson and Robert White were the security on the M.L.B. of Isma Bunting of Isma and Elizabeth Waterfield, widow.¹ Isma Bunting died before 1 December 1830 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was partly proved.²

     Thomas Hezekiah James Sr. was born on 7 December 1907 at Waddey Farm, Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.² He married Ethel Rainsford Little on 8 September 1934 at Brooklyn, NY.² Thomas Hezekiah James Sr. died on 2 April 1984 at N.A.M. Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 76.¹ Thomas was buried at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.¹

     Ethel Rainsford Little was born on 3 May 1908 at Brooklyn, NY.¹ She married Thomas Hezekiah James Sr., son of Hezekiah Pettit James Jr. and Lula Bell Mason, on 8 September 1934 at Brooklyn, NY.² As of 8 September 1934,her married name was James.¹ Ethel Rainsford Little died on 13 August 1988 at age 80.¹ Ethel was buried at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.¹

     Margaret T. Trower was born on 17 October 1814 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Margaret T. James, daughter of John & Delitha Trower, born 17 Oct 1814.² As of 11 June 1838,her married name was James.¹ She married Hezekiah Pettit James, son of William James and Susannah 'Sukey' Smith, 11 Jun 1838 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. John Trower Sr. was the security on the M.L.B. of Hezekiah P. James and Margaret Trower, daughter of said John Trower Sr. John S. James as to Hezekiah's age. They were married on 13 Jun 1838.^1,2 Margaret was listed with her husband in the census of 1850 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Margarett James, age 35 in HH#650 headed by Hezekiah P. James, a 41 year old farmer.³ She died on 26 August 1856 at Northampton Co, VA, at age 41.^4,2 Margaret was buried at Royal Rest, Northampton Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Margaret T. James, 17 Oct 1814 - 26 Aug 1856, who died age 43 years, 10 months & 9 days.⁴

     Lavina C. Floyd was born circa 1822 at Northampton Co, VA.² Lavina was named in her father's will on 20 July 1822 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my youngest daughter Lavinia (under 12) in the will of William Floyd, wife Frances.² As of 14 August 1848,her married name was James.³ She married Levin T. James, son of Thomas James and Anne Bagwell 'Nancy' Watson, 14 Aug 1848 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Wm. J. James was the security on the M.L.B. of Levin T. James and Lavenia C. Floyd. Wm. J. James also as to Lavenia's age. They were married on 23 Aug 1848.³ Lavina was listed with her husband in the census of 1850 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Lavenia James, age 24, in HH#669 headed by Levin James, a 32 year old farmer.⁴ She married Hezekiah Pettit James, son of William James and Susannah 'Sukey' Smith, on 1 July 1869 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Hezekiah P. James, a 60 year old widowed farmer, the son of Wm & Susan James and she was shown as Lavinia C. James, a 45 year old widow, the daughter of Wm & Frances Floyd. They were married in Accomack County.¹ As of 1 July 1869,her married name was James.¹

     William Ira James was born on 29 January 1844 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 William was listed with his parents in the census of 1850 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as William James, age 6 in HH#650 headed by Hezekiah P. James, a 41 year old farmer.⁴ He married Mary Ann Bailey Ashby, daughter of Benjamin Ashby and Margaret S. Edmunds (widow), on 22 February 1871 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as William Ira James, a 27 year old farmer, the son of Hezekiah & Margaret T. James and she was shown as Mary Ann Ashby, age 27 & born in Acc Co & living in N'hamp Co, the daughter of Benjamin & Margaret L. Ashby.^1,5 William Ira James died on 7 June 1912 at age 68. William I. James of Jamesville died Friday. Services were held at the M.E. Church South. Burial in the family cemetery. He is survived by his wife and 3 sons: Hezekiah, Ira & Edward James.^2,5 William was buried at Royal Rest, Northampton Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as William Ira James, husband of Mary Ann Bailey Ashby & son of Hezekiah & Margaret. He was buried at Royal Rest and since move to Bell Haven.²

     Mary Ann Bailey Ashby was born on 2 September 1843 at Accomack Co, VA.^3,4 As of 22 February 1871,her married name was James.¹ She married William Ira James, son of Hezekiah Pettit James and Margaret T. Trower, on 22 February 1871 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as William Ira James, a 27 year old farmer, the son of Hezekiah & Margaret T. James and she was shown as Mary Ann Ashby, age 27 & born in Acc Co & living in N'hamp Co, the daughter of Benjamin & Margaret L. Ashby.^1,4 Mary Ann Bailey Ashby died on 20 October 1922 at age 79. Mary Ann Bailey James, died aged 79 years, the widow of the late William I. James of Jamesville, VA. She is survived by 3 sons: Ira, Hezekiah P. and Edward and 2 sisters: Mrs. Sadie Fisher of Belle Haven and Mrs. Robert James of Jamesville. One brother survives - Mr. John H. Ashby.^3,4 Mary was buried at Royal Rest, N'hamp Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Mary Ann Bailey Ashby & wife of William Ira James, 2 Sep 1843 - 20 Oct 1922. She was buried at Royal Rest and since move to Bell Haven.³

     Hezekiah Pettit James Jr. was born on 15 September 1878 at Jamesville, N'hamp Co, VA.^3,4,5 He married Lula Bell Mason, daughter of Thomas James Mason and Annie Harriett Waddey, on 18 August 1901 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Hezekiah P. James Jr., a 23 year old merchant, the son of Wm. I & Mary James and she was shown as Lulu B. Mason, age 22, the daughter of Thomas & Annie Mason.^1,5 Hezekiah Pettit James Jr. died on 16 February 1968 at age 89.^3,4 Hezekiah was buried at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Northampton Co, VA.³

     Lula Bell Mason was born on 23 November 1878 at Hesse-Cassel Farm, Eastville, N'hamp Co, VA.^2,3 As of 18 August 1901,her married name was James.¹ She married Hezekiah Pettit James Jr., son of William Ira James and Mary Ann Bailey Ashby, on 18 August 1901 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Hezekiah P. James Jr., a 23 year old merchant, the son of Wm. I & Mary James and she was shown as Lulu B. Mason, age 22, the daughter of Thomas & Annie Mason.^1,3 Lula Bell Mason died on 21 July 1959 at age 80.^2,4 Lula was buried at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Northampton Co, VA.²

     Thomas James Mason was born on 14 November 1834 at Accomack Co, VA.³ He married Annie Harriett Waddey, daughter of William Edward Waddey and Mary Ellen Griffith, on 17 October 1877 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Baltimore, MD.⁴ Thomas James Mason died on 7 December 1881 at Hesse-Cassel Farm, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 47.³
