     Mrs. Erna Chase Godwin, wife of the late Thomas Edward Godwin, died on 15 Aug 1993, aged 87 years. Born and reared in Poulson, she was the daughter of the late Rozena Trader and Kellam Chase. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 21 Aug 1993). Erna was born on 20 March 1906 at Poulson, Acc Co, VA.² Erna was living in 1961.² Erna died on 15 August 1993 at age 87.¹

Sonja Lee Evans, 54, wife of Homer Gerald Evans and a resident of Messongo for seven years, died in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, MD, on Monday, 7 Nov 1994. Born and reared at Sanford, she was the daughter of Helen Godwin and the late Woodrow Godwin. She was a housewife and practical nurse. She was a member of Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague. Graveside services were held at Downings Cemetery, Oak Hall, Wednesday, 9 Nov, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Mard Landon. Other than her husband and mother, Mrs. Evans is survived by 3 children, 2 sisters and a brother, all of who were listed, and several nieces and nephews, who were not listed (E.S. News, 12 Nov 1994). She was born and reared at Saxis, the daughter of Richard and Minnie Linton Evans, and a member of the Saxis United Methodist Church. Burial was at Downing's Cemetery. She was survived by 2 daughters and 1 sister, who were listed (E.S. News, 9 Feb 1994). Captola was born in 1910 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married George William Mister, son of George Tilton 'S.J.T." Mister and Drucilla 'Sillie' Martin, on 23 April 1927 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.³ Captola was living in 1962 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Captola died on 2 February 1994 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.⁵ Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

     Vessie was born on 14 October 1917 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married James Linwood Earl Linton, son of Webster Carroll Linton and Margaret May 'Maggie' White, on 23 December 1933 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.³ As of 23 December 1933,her married name was Linton.³ Vessie was living in 1940 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Vessie died on 23 March 1994 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 76.⁵ Her body was interred at Justice Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Edna was born circa 1924 at Beaufort, NC.¹ She married Dorsey Edward Marshall Sr., son of William Sylvester 'Ves' Marshall and Lillie Ann Martin, circa 1943. As of circa 1943,her married name was Marshall. Edna died on 7 August 1989 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA.¹ Her body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Roxana was born on 22 July 1945 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Roxana died on 26 September 2003 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus, Baltimore, MD, at age 58. Mrs. Roxanna Marshall Parks, age 58, wife of John Lester "Jack" Parks Jr. and a resident of Harborton, formerly of Parksley, passed away on Friday, Sept 26, 2003 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus in Baltimore, MD. Born on July 22, 1945 in Saxis, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey Edward Marshall and Edna G. Marshall. She was a homemaker; a member of Grace United Methodist Church; graduate of Atlantic High School; and was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Other than her husband, Roxanna is survived by three sons, John Lester Parks III of Parksley, Marshall Broughton Parks of Norfolk, VA and David Clifton Parks of Exmore; a brother Dorsey E. Marshall Jr. of Salisbury, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Interment was in the Parksley Cemetery..² Her body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     John was born on 27 June 1906 at Accomack Co, VA.² John was listed with his parents in the census of 29 April 1910 at Pungoteague, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John L. Parks, a 3 year old grandson in HH#221 headed by John H. Onley, a 70 year old farmer. Also listed were Frederick P. Parks, a 26 year old son-in-law and Mary D. Parks, a 25 year old daughter, who were evidently his parents.¹ He married Ethelyne Broughton, daughter of William Roy Broughton Sr. and Lillian Dunton Jacob, circa 1940.² John Lester Parks Sr. died on 18 June 1972 at age 65.² John was buried in July 1972 at St. Georges Parish Church Cemetery, Pungoteague, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as John Lester Parks Sr. (h/o E.B.), 27 Jun 1906 - 18 Jun 1972.²

     Stella was born circa 1930 at Guilford, Acc Co, VA. She married Eddie Lewis, son of Salathiel Mayo Lewis and Margaret L. 'Maggie' Martin, circa 1950. As of circa 1950,her married name was Lewis. Stella died on 5 January 2002 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Stella was buried at J.W. Taylor Cemetery, Temperancevile, Acc Co, VA.

     Amelia was born in 1872 at Worcester Co, MD.¹ She married Clarence C. Powell, son of Harry Clay Powell and Clara F. Bowen, on 17 November 1897 at Worcester Co, MD. They were shown as Clarence C. Powell, age 30 and Amelia C. Bevans, age 25.

Eloise was living after 1949 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Eloise died on 28 April 1992 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 80.² Her body was interred at Liberty Cem, Parksley, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Willie was born on 16 May 1911 at Tangier Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Eloise Crockett, daughter of Frank Crockett and Leslie Shores, circa 1935. Willie was living in 1992 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He died on 1 January 2000 at age 88.¹

     Ira was born circa 1897 at Maryland.^1,2 Ira was living in 1915 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ He married Evelyn Marie Marshall, daughter of Merritt Marshall and Evelyn Miles, on 26 December 1915 at Cokesbury Par, Somerset Co, MD.¹ Ira was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1930 at Kent Co, DE. He was shown as Ira McDaniel the head of HH#74, a 33 year old general grade electrican, born in MD. Listed with him were the following McDaniels: Marie, a 29 year old wife, born in VA; Ethel, a 13 year old daughter, born in MD; Rachel, a 10 year old daughter, born in MD; and Ira, a 3 yr 7 month old son, born in MD..²

Wessels, age 20 and farming in HH#526 headed by Thomas Wessels of J., a 41 year old farmer..³ He married Caroline Susan Parks, daughter of Charles (of J.) Parks and Margaret D. Russell, on 7 January 1866 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Caroline Susan Parkes, d/o Charles and Margaret Parkes, age 16, on her 1866 Acc marriage record to James T. Wessells and as Catherine Parkes, age 10, in the 1860 household of Charles and Margaret Parkes..⁴ James died in 1929 at Accomack Co, VA.² His body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     Sallie was born on 4 November 1891 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.^2,1 Sallie died on 27 January 1892 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Her body was interred at Lewis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Carrie was born circa 1896 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married Pearly Lee Marshall, son of Aaron Marshall Jr. and Mary Jane Wessells, on 30 May 1921 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     The assumption that Patience Marshall, who married Abraham Lankford in 1813, is the daughter of James and Patience Marshall, is based on the fact that in the 1800 Census, James had 2 daughters aged 10-16, and by 1810 he had 3 daughters. Triffany is the only daughter clearly named in the records. However, this Patience, who could have been named after her mother, is possibly one of the daughters listed in the 1800 and 1810 Census. Patience was born circa 1788 at Accomack Co, VA. She married Abraham Lankford on 30 July 1813 at Accomack Co, VA.²

     Abraham was born circa 1790. He married Patience Marshall, daughter of James Marshall, on 30 July 1813 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     Clara Marsahll, age 2, the duaghter of Samuel Marshall, died on Friday, 26 Oct 1888 on Sykes of Cholera Infantum (Pen. Ent., 3 Nov 1888). Clara was born on 27 March 1886 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Conflicting evidence states that she died in 1888 at Accomack Co, VA.² Clara died on 26 October 1888 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 2.³

     The only evidence linking this Sally Marshall to Samuel Marshall of Saxis is the fact that Revell Lewis, a known resident of the area, was listed as security on the marriage of Sally to Thomas Evans, Jr. and the 1800 Census shows that Samuel had 8 daughters, all of which have still not been accounted for. Sally was born circa 1797 at Accomack Co, VA. She married Thomas Evans Jr. on 3 December 1814 at Accomack Co, VA. Revell Lewis and Smith Melson were security on the M.L.B. of Thomas Evans Jr. and Sally Marshall..^2,3

     Thomas was born circa 1795 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Sally Marshall, daughter of Samuel (196) Marshall Jr. and Triffinoh (-----), on 3 December 1814 at Accomack Co, VA. Revell Lewis and Smith Melson were security on the M.L.B. of Thomas Evans Jr. and Sally Marshall..^1,2

     Ellasue was born circa 1870.¹ She married Frank Marshall, son of Aaron Marshall Jr. and Mary Jane Wessells, on 3 September 1890 at Somerset Co, MD.¹

     Carroll Marshall's death record states that he was the son of William & Ellen and drowned at the age of 8 years. On Thursday, 30 Jul 1891, a small son of Wm. Z. Marshall of Sykes Island, while returning from fishing in a small boat with his brother and siter, was knocked overboard by the sail and drowned (Pen. Ent., 8 Aug 1891). Carroll was born circa 1883 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Carroll died on 26 July 1891.¹ Conflicting evidence states that he died on 30 July 1891 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.²
