     John Wilcox was born circa 1630.¹ He married Ann Custis, daughter of Henry Custis and Joan Whittington (widow), circa 1656.¹ John Wilcox was granted a certificate for land for transporting persons into the colony at Northampton Co, VA, on 30 July 1660. It was on this date that a land certificate was granted to John Wilcocks for 1,000 acres for transporting 20 persons into the county, among them was a William Burton. The full list included Ann Wilcocks, Rose Yardly, Mary Avery, Cornelius Johnson, John Custis, Wm Marshall, Robt Marklockson, Henry Yardley, Wm Burton, Arien Ames, John Wilcocks, Wm St. Johns, Mary Barber, Ann Jeanes, Geo. Jenkins, John Floyd, Florence Pomroy, Wm Taylor, John Fereby & Wm Pryer.³ John made a will on 7 May 1662 at Hungars Parish, N'hamp Co, VA. He was shown as John Wilcocks of Hungars Parish. To my beloved wife (no name) my whole estate for life and then all my land to the child now in her womb. My wife to div. my personal estate among her children Henry and Edmond Yardly and that in her womb as she sees fit. In case my said child dies, then Henry Yardly to have all my lands provided he make good conveyance unto his brother Edmond of the land called the "Old Town" given to him by his father Esqr. Yardly (it appearing by the lease granted to Henry's uncle John Custis by Esqr. Yardly that his uncle is tenant to Henry). "But in case of the death of Argol Yardly that Henry Yardly should be heir to his father", I give all my lands to Edmond Yardly. My wife to remember that I have tried to assist the children of my brother Henry Wilcocks if he should have any. Wife extrx.      William Wilcox was born circa 1660 at Hungars Parish, N'hamp Co, VA.¹ He was baptized on 29 September 1660 at Hungars Parish, N'hamp Co, VA, He was shown as William, son of John and Ann Willcocks..¹ He died before 21 July 1661 at Hungars Parish, N'hamp Co, VA. It was on this date that William, son of John Willcocks was buried.²

     John Luke was born in 1647. In a deposition in 1694, Luke gave his age as 47, so he must have been born in 1647, which would make him much younger than Ann, and she is supposed to have married Yardley in 1649 when he came to Virginia with him.² He married Ann Custis, daughter of Henry Custis and Joan Whittington (widow), before 29 December 1671. They were evidently married by this date as John Luke and wife Anne delivered Elizabeth Vansoldt's estate to her son John Raynhart, as he had turn age 18 and they were his guardians. According to Whitelaw, not long after John Willcocks death in 1662 John Luke and a wife Ann, were established on 400 acres of tract N73 which John Willocks had bought from Thomas & Mary Selbe in 1660. And it is assumed that John Luke had married the widow Willcockes and that John Willcocks unborn child did not live, as no one who could be identified as such appears in the records concerning this property. After the death of Anne, Luke had a second wife Susanna, who bore him 2 sons, but whom he survived.^1,3 John Luke married Susanna (-----) circa 1686 at Northampton Co, VA.⁴ John made a will on 8 December 1708 at Northampton Co, VA. To my son Isaac Luke that 200 A. part of my 400 A. plantation, it being the part whereon my dwelling house stands, silver handled sword, silver spoon, and the horse "Spright" that is at Thorn Wells' a braking. To my son John Luke the other 200 A., silver box, one silver spoon, and old mare "Jenny". To my son Daniel Luke a mare bought of Mr. Watts, a gold ring with a green amethyst, 2 silver spoons, and a Danszwick chest. To my dau. Susannah Luke all her mother's clothes. To Susannah Luke one silver spoon and to her dau. Sarah another. Horses "Buck", "Deputy", and "Spark" to remain for the use of the plantation. Son Isaac extr. Andrew Hamilton and Henry Blare to advise him. To Joshuah Johnson. Witt: William White, John Frank.⁵ He died before 28 May 1709 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated.⁵

     John Taylor was born circa 1720.¹ He married Susannah Burton, daughter of Thomas Burton and Amey (-----) (Wallace?), before 26 February 1750/51. She had evidently recently married John Taylor as it was on this date that Susannah Taylor (exr. of Amey Burton) submitted the inventory; the citation against her was dismissed. Her husband John Taylor paid costs.¹

     Elizabeth Burton was born on 23 March 1726 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     Alice T. Burton was born on 8 August 1724 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She died on 29 September 1743 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 19.¹

     Mary A. Fox was born in 1852 at Accomack Co, VA.² Mary was listed with her parents in the census of 1860 at Locustville, St. Georges Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Mary Fox, age 8 in HH#399 headed by Zerobabel Fox, age 52.³ Mary was listed with her mother in the census of 1870 at Locust Mount Post Office, St. Georges Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Mary Fox, age 18 in HH#LM1098 headed by Elizabeth Fox, age 50 and farming.⁴ She married William T. James, son of John Thomas James and Susan Elizabeth Haley, on 23 December 1870 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Wm. T. James, a 21 year old farmer, the son of John T. & Susan James and she was shown as Mary Fox, age 19, the daughter of Zorobabel & Elizabeth Fox. They were married by L.K. LeCato.¹ As of 23 December 1870,her married name was James.¹ Mary A. Fox reported a death on 7 October 1893 at District No. 2, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Mary A. James, wife, reported the death of Wm. Thomas James who died 7 Oct 1893 in the 2nd District of Typhoid fever at the age of 46 years and 10 months. He was the son of John & Susan James, born in VA, the husband of Mary A. James.⁵ She died in 1920.² Mary was buried at Mt. Holly Cemetery, Onancock, Acc Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Mary A. James (buried next to Wm T. James) 1852 - 1920.²

     Emma S. James was born on 29 March 1853 at Accomack Co, VA.² Emma was listed with her parents in the census of 1860 at Locustville, St. Georges Parish, Acc Co, VA. On 26 Jun 1860 she was shown as Emma S., age 8 in HH#397 headed by father John T. James, a 35 year old farmer with real estate valued at $3,500 and a personal estate valued at $500. Also listed were mother Elizabeth S., age 33; sister Mary S., age 12; brother William T., age 13; sister Juliet A., age 10; sister Maria J., age 5; brother John H., age 3; and brother Albert W., age 1.³ Emma was listed with her parents in the census of 1870 at Locust Mount P.O., St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. On 1 Aug 1870 she was shown as Emma S., age 18, in HH#1100 headed by father Thos. T. James [a clerical error], a 44 year old farmer with real estate valued at $5,000 and a personal estate valued at $1,000. Also listed were mother Eliza S., age 44; brother Wm. T., age 21; sister Mary S., age 21; sister Ginnie, age 16; brother John H., age 13; brother Alfred W., age 11; sister Eliza, age 5, and sister Georgia, age 3.¹ She married Robert W.T. Kellam, son of Thomas Robert Kellam and Tabitha Ann Marian 'Maria' Groten, on 28 December 1871 at Locustville, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Robert W. T. Kellam, a 22 year old farmer, the son of Thomas & Tabitha. She was shown as Emma S. James, age 18, the daughter of Jno. T. & Susan. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. John Wesley Andros Elliott.⁴ As of 28 December 1871,her married name was Kellam.⁴ Emma was listed with her husband in the census of 1880 at Lee District, Acc Co, VA. On 8 Jun 1880 she was shown as Emma, age 27, in HH#10 headed by husband Robt. Kellam, a 31 year old farmer. Also shown were daughter Haddie, age 4; daughter Annie, age 3; black laborer Samuel Parker, age 25; and black laborer Moses Nedab, age 18.⁵ Emma was listed with her husband in the census of 1900 at Lee District, Acc Co, VA. On 23 Jun 1900 she was shown as Emma S., age 47, in HH#427 headed by husband R. W. T. Kellam, a 51 year old merchant. Also shown was single daughter Annie A., age 23.⁶ Emma was listed with her husband in the census of 1910 at Lee District, Acc Co, VA. On 15 Jun 1910 she was shown as Emma S., age 57, in HH#493 headed by husband Robert W. T. Kellam, a 61 year old general store merchant. Also shown was single daughter Annie, age 30 [33].⁷ Emma was listed as a head of household in the census of 1920 at Lee District, Acc Co, VA. On 20 Feb 1920 she was shown as Emma, a 65 year old widow, head of HH#557. Also shown was single daughter Annie, age 40 [43].⁸ Emma was buried at Mt. Holly Cemetery, Onancock, Acc Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Emma S. Kellam, wife of Robert W. T. Kellam, 29 Mar 1853 - 17 Apr 1922.² She died on 17 April 1922 at age 69.²

     John H. James was born in 1856 at Accomack Co, VA.² John was listed with his parents in the census of 1870 at Locust Mount P.O., St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as John H. James, age 13 in HH#LM1100 headed by Thos. T. James, a 44 year old farmer.¹ He married Llewellyn 'Louisa' Phillips, daughter of Levin W. Phillips and Susan E. Ashby, on 1 February 1882 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as John H. James, a 25 year old farmer, the son of Jno. T. & Susan James and she was shown as Llewellyn Phillips, age 22, the daughter of Levin & Susan Phillips. The were married at Mr. Levin Phillips'.³ John H. James died in 1946.² John was buried at Mt. Holly Cemetery, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.²

     Alfred W. James was born in 1858 at Accomack Co, VA.² Alfred was listed with his parents in the census of 1870 at Locust Mount P.O., St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Alfred W. James, age 11 in HH#LM1100 headed by Thos. T. James, a 44 year old farmer.¹ He married Levania F. 'Lubania' Savage, daughter of Bagwell T. Savage Jr. and Margaret S.S. 'Maggie Sue' Floyd, on 19 December 1883 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Alfred W. James, a 25 year old farmer, the son of Jno. T. & Eliz'th S. James and she was shown as Levania F. Savage, age 24, the daughter of Bagwell & Marg't Savage.³ Alfred was buried at Mt. Holly Cemetery, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.² He died on 29 December 1943.^2,4

     Levania F. 'Lubania' Savage was born circa 1859 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of 19 December 1883,her married name was James.¹ She married Alfred W. James, son of John Thomas James and Susan Elizabeth Haley, on 19 December 1883 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Alfred W. James, a 25 year old farmer, the son of Jno. T. & Eliz'th S. James and she was shown as Levania F. Savage, age 24, the daughter of Bagwell & Marg't Savage.¹ Levania F. 'Lubania' Savage died on 29 December 1942.²

     George T. James was born on 11 May 1888 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He died on 24 August 1888.¹ George was buried at James Bur Gr, Quinby, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Little George T. James, son of George T. & V.S. James.¹

     Alfred Garrison James was born on 24 November 1866 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Georgie W. Nock, daughter of Levin W. Nock and Sarah Custis Floyd, on 12 March 1896.² Alfred Garrison James married Annie Prettyman Doughty, daughter of James A. Doughty and Carrie Virginia Dunton, on 8 April 1905. They were married in Baltimore. Annie was the niece of Henry C. Doughty.³ Alfred Garrison James died on 22 January 1921 at age 54.² Alfred was buried at Morrison Hill Cemetery, Frogstool, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Alfred Garrison James, husband of Georgie W. James, 24 Nov 1866 - 22 Jan 1921.²

     Georgie W. Nock was born on 30 September 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of 12 March 1896,her married name was James.¹ She married Alfred Garrison James, son of George William James and Margaret A. Barnes, on 12 March 1896.¹ Georgie W. Nock died on 4 February 1904 at age 40. She died in a fire.¹ Georgie was buried at Morrison Hill Cemetery, Frogstool, Acc Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Georgie W. James, wife of Alfred Garrison James, 30 Sep 1863 - 4 Feb 1904.¹

     George A. James was born on 15 September 1901 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ In 1904, when he was three, Alfred was living in the hamlet of Trower and keeping a general store there. They lived in a rented house (which though abandoned is still there). The story goes that little George pulled over a kerosene lamp onto his mother, who suffered severe burns and died as a result. Shortly thereafter my grandfather Alfred remarried. In any event George A. James left the eastern shore to fight in the First World War. When he returned he did not stay on the Shore, but left to lead a very colorful life (as I recall the stories from my grandmother and mother). He would come back to town driving very expensive cars and with women of a certain reputation, flashing lots of money. He would then leave and have periods where he fell on hard times, alternating between periods of extravagance. He also fought in WWII, and was married three times.¹ He died on 26 December 1958 at age 57.¹ George was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. He is interred in Arlington National Cemetery, Section 44, grave 257. Also buried there is his last wife Laura.¹

     Annie Prettyman Doughty was born in 1881 at Accomack Co, VA.³ As of 8 April 1905,her married name was James.¹ She married Alfred Garrison James, son of George William James and Margaret A. Barnes, on 8 April 1905. They were married in Baltimore. Annie was the niece of Henry C. Doughty.² As of 16 October 1922,her married name was Finney.⁴ Annie Prettyman Doughty married Frank Gordon Finney, son of John T. Finney and Bettie W. Kellam, on 16 October 1922 at Wachapreague, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Frank Gordon Finney, a 34 year old widowed farmer, the son of John & Bettie Finney and she was shown as Annie Pettyman James, a 37 year old widow, the daughter of James & Carrie Doughty.⁴ Annie Prettyman Doughty died in 1962.³ Annie was buried at Wachapreague Cemetery, Acc Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Annie P. Finney, wife of Frank G. Finney & daughter of Jas. A. & Carrie V. Doughty, 1881 - 1962.³

     Chester Doughty James was born in 1906 at Accomack Co, VA.² He died in 1946.¹ Chester was buried at Wachapreague Cemetery, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Chester D. James, husband of Gertrude and son of Alfred G. & Annie James, 1906 - 1947.²

     Andrew Barnes James was born on 10 September 1909 at Accomack Co.¹ He died in 1976.¹ Andrew was buried at Wachapreague Cemetery, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Andrew B. James, son of Alfred G. & Annie P. James, 1909 - 1976.²

     Mary Virginia James was born in 1912 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She died in 1986.¹

     Robert Lee James was born in 1864 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married May Bland circa 1905. According to Alred E. James they had several children, one is Robert James who still lives in Quinby, he is about 90. They also had at least two daughters, Margaret James Warren (decd) and another daughter who is also deceased. There are a variety of children from this line (all of whom are cousins of mine) I know that Robert Lee is buried with his wife in the Wachapreague Cemetery.^2,1 Robert Lee James died in 1932.² Robert was buried at Wachapreague Cemetery, Acc Co, VA.²

     May Bland was born in 1887.¹ As of circa 1905,her married name was James.¹ She married Robert Lee James, son of George William James and Margaret A. Barnes, circa 1905. According to Alred E. Doughty and Carrie Virginia Dunton, on 16 October 1922 at Wachapreague, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Frank Gordon Finney, a 34 year old widowed farmer, the son of John & Bettie Finney and she was shown as Annie Pettyman James, a 37 year old widow, the daughter of James & Carrie Doughty.¹ Frank Gordon Finney died in 1971.² Frank was buried at Wachapreague Cemetery, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Frank G. Finney, husband of Annie P. and son of Jno. T. & Bettie A., 1888 - 1971.²

     John William 'Jack' James was born on 24 November 1855 at Accomack Co, VA.² He died on 2 March 1922 at age 66. According to Alred E. James he was probably a bachelor.^2,1 John was buried at James Bur Gr, Quinby, Acc Co, VA.²

     Mary Susan James was born on 15 October 1853 at Accomack Co, VA.² She died on 25 October 1923 at age 70. According to Alred E. James she was never married and was killed when she was travelling in an auto at or near Keller, VA, when the car stalled on the tracks and she was struck and killed by the train.^2,1 Mary was buried at Onancock Cemetery, Acc Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Mary S. James, 15 Oct 1853 - 25 Oct 1923.²

     Gilbert James was born circa 1640.¹ He married Jone (-----) circa 1665.¹ Gilbert James was granted a certificate for land for transporting persons into the colony at Somerset Co, MD, in 1677. He was shown as Gilbert James, who transported himself, son James, daughter Jeane, son Jonathan, wife Jone and son Lewis.² He patented land on 28 June 1679 at Tamroons Ridge, Somerset Co, MD. Gilbert assigned it to Phillip Ascue for 250 acres in East Princess Anne, Election District 15, map #4.³ He patented land on 28 June 1679 at Hanslap, Somerset Co, MD. Gilbert assigned it to John Panther for 50 acres in St. Peters, Election District 2, map #6.⁴

     Jone (-----) was born circa 1640.¹ She married Gilbert James circa 1665.¹ As of circa 1665,her married name was James.¹ Jone (-----) was named as a headright in 1677 at Somerset Co, MD. She was shown as wife Jone on a certificate granted to Gilbert James, who transported himself, son James, daughter Jeane, son Jonathan, wife Jone and son Lewis.²

     Lewis James was born circa 1674.¹ He was named as a headright in 1677 at Somerset Co, MD. He was shown as son Lewis on a certificate granted to Gilbert James, who transported himself, son James, daughter Jeane, son Jonathan, wife Jone and son Lewis.¹

     Hannah James was born on 19 March 1676/77 at Somerset Co, MD. She was shown as born at Wiccocomoco.¹ Could she have been the Hannah Trulfo (daughter Sarah Lingo) who was involved with the estate of Jonathan James in 1723 in Accomack Co, VA? See Hannah Treford for more details.

     Charles Treford was born circa 1675. On 5 May 1703 George Marriner gave notice that he intended to transport 14 head of cattle from Accomack County to Sussex County; he described them and their marks. The cattle had been viewed by Thomas Cope, Charles Trueford and William Selby. On 20 August 1703, they signed the document: Wm. Selby, Charles (O) Trufer and Thomas (Tc) Cope.¹ He bought land on 1 October 1706 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Charles Trefloo bought 100 acres of tract A116 (east of Parksley and east of Rt. 13) from Thomas Budd and his wife Anna Danella. The order book shows him as Charles Trelsoo.^2,3 He married Ann (-----) circa 1712.^2,4 Charles Treford sold land on 6 January 1713/14 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Charles and Ann Treford (Twiford?) sold 100 of Whitelaw's tract A116 to Nathaniel Walker and 5 years later he left it to his father-in-law (meaning step-father) John Clift and John & Margaret Cliffe promptly sold his inheritance to Robert Taylor. The order book shows them as Turlfoe.^2,4 On 2 Feb 1718/19 when Nathaniel Walker made his will he gave the 100 acre plantatoin bought of Charles Trueford to his father-in-law (meaning step father) John Clift.⁵

     Hannah Treford (Twiford?) was born circa 1680. On 5 Dec 1723 the sheriff informed the court that Hannah Trulfoe and her daughter Sarah Lingo were detaining part of the estate of Jonathan James (deceased); the court had ordered that the estate be taken and sold. It was now ordered that the sheriff summon Hannah and Sarah to appear at the next court to show why they had not delivered the part of James' estate that they held.¹ On 10 Jul 1724 it was recorded that at the December court the sheriff was ordered to summon Hannah Trulfo and her daughter Sarah Lingo to appear at this court and explain why they did not deliver items belonging to the estate of Jona: James, deceased. When they did not appear at this court, the sheriff was ordered to take them into custody until they posted security for their appearance at the next court.² On 5 Jan 1724/25 summoned to give an account of the estate belonging to Jonathan James that she had in her custody, Hannah Trulfoe swore that she had nothing that belonged to James.³

     Ann (-----) was born circa 1680. As of circa 1712,her married name was Treford. She married Charles Treford circa 1712.^1,2

     David James was born circa 1705 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 David was named in his father's will on 14 October 1715 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son David (under age) and given my gun that was Robert James's in the will of William James, wife Sarah.² David was named as an heir on 20 February 1720/21 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as David James in the will of William Parker of Burton's Branch on the Sea Side.³ He married Elizabeth (-----) before 1728.⁵ David James sold land in 1728 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that David and Elizabeth James sold his 100 acres of tract N99 to Nottingham Abdele. In 1745 Abdell (wife Rachel) left to his Thomas. In 1764 he and his wife Margaret Abdell sold 80 acres to William Christian and 2 years later 80 acres more. These sales must have included the Robert and David James parts. In 1768 William and Matilda Christian sold the 160 acres to John Blair, who thus became possessed of the whole of the James land.⁶ On 6 Mar 1727/28 David James acknowledged his power of attorney to Delight Shield.⁷ He bought land in 1730 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that David James bought 200 acres of tract A121 (Richard Townsend Part) from Nottingham Abdell & wife Rachel. In 1764 David James (wife Elizabeth) left this to his son William S. James, who in 1775 (wife Leah) left to his son Delight James. In 1820 Delight James sold a parcel of 248 acres to Robert Russell, of the seaside, but Robert Russell's will of the next year (wife Sarah Crippen) made no mention of his land, so the year following it was surveyed as 328 acres, of which 257 went to Robert R. Laws and 71 acres to Crippen Russell.⁸ David witnessed a will on 14 November 1737 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Griffith Savage, David James, Timothy Silaven & Tabitha Onions witnessed the will of Richard Jones.⁹ He was security on the administration of an estate on 30 April 1751 at Accomack Co, VA. David James and Robert Crippen were securities on the administration of the estate of Elizabeth Tankred to William Tankred.¹⁰ David witnessed a will on 25 November 1753 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that David James, Elizabeth James & Thomas Webb witnessed the will of Thomas Bonnewell, wife Ann.¹¹ David was named as administrator of an estate on 30 March 1763 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of William Gooday was granted to David James with Abbott Bundick security.¹² David made a will on 2 September 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. To wife Elizabeth plantation where I now live for life or widow & whole personal estate. To son William Sacker James plantation where I live (A121) & for want of heirs to my youngest son David James. Son Thomas. Children Laban, Thomas, Robert, Sarah & David residual legatees. Wife & son William Sacker James Exrs. Witt: Arnold Morgin, John Cowley, Edward Gunter, Jr.^13,8 He died before 31 October 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated. William Sacker James heir at law to the testator.¹³

     Rachel James was born circa 1708 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Rachel was named as an heir on 20 February 1720/21 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Rachel James in the will of William Parker of Burton's Branch on the Sea Side.¹

     William Gooday was born circa 1720.¹ He died before 30 March 1763 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of William Gooday was granted to David James with Abbott Bundick security.¹

     Elizabeth (-----) was born circa 1710.¹ She married David James, son of William James and Sarah Spiers, before 1728.² As of 1728,her married name was James.² Elizabeth witnessed a will on 25 November 1753 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that David James, Elizabeth James & Thomas Webb witnessed the will of Thomas Bonnewell, wife Ann.¹ Elizabeth was named in her husband's will on 2 September 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as wife Elizabeth in the will of David James. He also named a son William Sacker James, which may be an indicator of her maiden name.³

     David James was born circa 1756 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ David was named in his father's will on 2 September 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as my youngest son David James in the will of David James, wife Elizabeth.¹

     Thomas James was born circa 1742 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He married Mary Heath (widow) 07 Jul 1764 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Luke Heath was the security on the M.L.B. of Thomas James Sr. and Mary Heath; widow.² Thomas was named in his father's will on 2 September 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son Thomas in the will of David James, wife Elizabeth.¹ He died before 25 February 1774 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Thomas James was granted to Thorogood Smith with George Holden security.³

He was given the home plantation of 109 acres of tract A64.^1,2 On 13 Aug 1766 Thomas James, Littleton Lurton, Sarah Fosque & Susannah James children & representatives of William James lately dec'd sold to Amey James widow & executive of the said William for 20 pounds current money of Virginia all their rights, titles, claims & demands which they now have or be entitled to or in one Negro woman slave with her future issue and increase named Phillis, which on the death of their father William James descended to them as children and representatives aforesaid.⁵ Thomas was named in his mother's will before 24 February 1767 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son Thomas James in the undated will of Amey James, whose will was probated on 24 Feb 1767.⁶ He sold land on 28 April 1767 at Burton's Branch, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas James of Accomack County sold to James Twiford house carpenter of the same place for 5 shillings grant and farm lett land in the Parish of ST. George in Acc County, containing 50 acres of land bounded: beginning at a marked corner Oak of a line of marked trees dividing the hereby devised land from the land of Thomas Lewis and the land of the said Twiford, thence along the said Lewis' line of marked trees to a corner Oak Line tree of John Dawson's land, then along the said Dawson's line to the head of Burton's Branch, thence down that Branch to a marked black gum tree in the Branch, then north 75 degrees easterly to a Maple corner tree of the said Twiford's land, thence along the said Twiford's line to the first beginning containing 50 acres for a yearly rent of …. Witnesses: Smith Snead, Rich. Rodgers & Aser Shield. Signed Thos. James.⁷ He sold land on 24 September 1769 at Burton's Branch, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas James of Accomack County sold to Tilney Rodgers and Agnes his wife of the same place for 25 pounds __ shillings current money a tract during their natural lives and the lifetime of the survivor of them a certain parcel of land near and adjoining Burton's Branch bounded as follows: beginning at a marked white oak on the northwest side of the said Thomas' tract standing the Branch thence running down the Branch to the head of the Joseph Custis' Mill Dam, thence up and along the line between the said Joseph Custis land and the said Thomas' to a marked sassafras standing by the ___ side and thence with a line drawn to the white oak aforesaid containing 50 acres.⁸ He bought land on 28 February 1775 at Burton's Branch, Acc Co, VA. Thomas James bought from William Parramore & wife Sarah for 25 pounds current money of the colony a tract of land on Burton's Branch in the Parish of St. George which the said Thomas James by deed recorded in the General Court sold to a certain Thomas Parramore, Gentleman, dec'd, father of the said William, being all the remainder of the land which the said William hath not heretofore conveyed to a certain Abel Badger containing 25 acres.⁹ Thomas witnessed a will on 7 February 1777 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that William Arbuckle, James Henry & Thomas James witnessed the will of Severn Gutteriedge, wife Attalanta.¹⁰ He died before 26 November 1783 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Thomas James was granted to Sarah James with Nathaniel Badger security.¹¹ On 20 Sep 1784 it was ordered that Benjamin Peck, William Gibb & Edmund Wise or any two of the do audit & settle the estate of Thomas James dec'd and make return there of to the next court. (NOTE: Such an audit & settlement was not found in the indexes of the Order Books or in the Wills & C Books.).¹²

     Euphamy 'Famy' James was born circa 1746 at Accomack Co, VA.² Euphamy was named in her father's will on 18 May 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Fanny James in the will of William James, wife Amey.² Euphamy was named in her mother's will before 24 February 1767 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Famy James in the undated will of Amey James, whose will was probated on 24 Feb 1767.³ Euphamy was named as an heir on 11 June 1770 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Euphamy James in the will of Hugh Roberts.¹

     Mettelder Bradford was born circa 1763 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Mettelder was named in her grandfather's will on 18 May 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Mettelder Bradford, daughter of my daughter Johannah Bradford in the will of William James, wife Amey.¹

     Margaret 'Peggy' James was born circa 1740 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1758,her married name was Lurton.¹ She married Littleton Lurton circa 1758 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Margaret was named in her father's will on 18 May 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Margaret Lurton in the will of William James, wife Amey. It was for her life, reversion to her 2 daughters Tabitha & Semer Lurton.¹ Margaret was named in her mother's will before 24 February 1767 at Accomack Co, VA.      Tabitha Lurton was born circa 1758 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Tabitha was named in her grandfather's will on 18 May 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Tabitah Lurton, daughter of my daughter Margaret Lurton in the will of William James, wife Amey.¹ Tabitha was named in her father's will on 24 August 1786 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Tabitah Mahorn and given 1 shilling in the will of Littleton Lurton, wife Patience.²

     Sarah James was born circa 1742 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1758,her married name was Fosque.¹ She married (-----) Fosque circa 1758.¹ Sarah was named in her father's will on 18 May 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Sarah Foskey in the will of William James, wife Amey. She was shown as daughter Sarah James in the will of John Badger Sr., wife Abigail. He also named a son Nathaniel Badger.² Sarah was named in her mother's will on 28 October 1772 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Sarah James in the will of Abbegal Badger.⁴ Sarah was named as administrator of an estate on 26 November 1783 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Thomas James was granted to Sarah James with Nathaniel Badger security.¹

     Susannah James was born circa 1791 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Susannah was named in her father's will on 28 January 1800 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Susannah James in the will of William James, wife Patience.¹

     William James was born circa 1800 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ William was named in his mother's will on 27 March 1819 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as William James in the will of Patience James, son Levin James Extr.¹ William was listed as a head of household in the census of 1840 at St. Georges Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William James a head of household age 40-50 (born 1790-1800). Listed with him was 1 male age 0-5, 1 male age 5-10, 1 male age 15-20, 1 male age 30-40, 1 female age 5-10, 1 female age 20-30 and 19 slaves.² William witnessed a will on 3 October 1840 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas James, Thomas P. Copes & William James witnessed the will of James Floyd, brother of Wm. Floyd.³

     Ann James was born in 1750 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She died on 30 August 1757 at Accomack Co, VA. She was evidently dec'd by this date as William Tilney, guardian to Ann James, made oath to the account of Anne James. Since the entry was titled The Estate of Ann James to William Tilney, it is assumed that Ann James had died.¹

     Joshua James was born in 1749 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He died in 1801 at Sussex Co, DE.¹

     Annie E. Selby was born circa 1852 at Accomack Co, VA.^1,2 Annie was listed with her mother in the census of 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Ann E. Selby, age 8 in HH#1188 headed by Mary P. Selby, age 32.² She married Major T. Davis, son of John W. Davis and Maria A. Collins, on 30 January 1877 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Major T. Davis, a 43 year old single carpenter, the son of Jno. W. & Maria A. Davis and she was shown as Annie E. Selby, age 26, the daughter of Wm. W. & Mary A.P. Selby.¹ As of 30 January 1877,her married name was Davis.¹

     (-----) Hayes was born circa 1775. He married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Wallop, daughter of William Wallop Sr. and Bridget Marshall, circa 1825. (-----) Hayes died before 1827.
