John Cutting I1
M, b. 1600, d. after September 1684
John Cutting I was born in 1600 at England.2 He married (-----) (-----) circa 1625. On 3 Jan 1642/43 John Stuttson deposed in open court that being at work up Mr. Charltons ground did hear John Cuttings tell John Knight carpenter saying it was long of you that I came for Virginia you promised to free me so the said Knight replyed saying I will perform my promise so imediately the said Knight departed and went to Mr. Yardley's house and at his return home this deponent being at work in the said ground up the frame of the house did hear the said Knight tell the said Cuttings saying I asked Mr. Yardley's advice concerning thy freedom and Mr. Yardley (Argoll Yardley Esquire) gave me advice therein I haven told him thy case and further this deponent heard the said Knight tell the said Cuttings saying if it bee upon thy conditions that thou are to have all necessaries at the first penny if Mr. Charlton do not perform his promise with you I will set you free for what I do I have advice from Mr. Yardley. In further deposition John Stutson said that Mr. Charlton and John Knight carpenter being at some difference did hear Knight tell Mr. Charlton, I care not to work with you any longer except I might work quietly, whereunto Mr. Charlton answered saying if thou find any fault then go and bring me my monie as I have layed out and I am engaged for and go whether thou will, then Knight answered saying I will do it tomorrow and bring you your monie. Knight did continue in the work for ten days after and then went away and left his work.3 John Cutting I patented land in 1654 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that the court ordered Nicholas Waddelowe to give John Cudden a deed for land sold him. In 1656 Waddelowe must have applied for a patent before his sale but it was no issued until this year when it called for 350 acres of tract N100 (east of Jamesville) and two years later Nicholas and Amy Waddelowe sold it to John Cutten. Then in 1663 a patent was reissued in his name. In 1681 John and Tabitha Custis and Argoll Yardley united in a deed to John Cuttin for the 350 acres "as by a pretended Pattent to John Cuttin." Apparently the Yardley heirs had claimed this land as being a part of the Francis Yardley patent and were able to substantiate the claim and secure a payment from Cuttin. In 1686 John Cuttin gave 100 acres to his grandson Bailey Johnson and 3 years later (1689) he gave the remaining 250 acres to this son William Cuttinge. (NOTE: Since John Cutting I deposed that he was age 84 in Sept 1684 it is possible that it was his son John Cutting II that gave the land to his grandson Baily Johnson in 1686 and it was more likely that it was his son John Cutting II that gave the remaing 250 acres to his son William Cutting in 1689.).4 John was named as an heir on 12 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as John Cutting in the will of Richard Bayly, freehoulder. He also named John Cutting's daughter, Mary Parramore.1 He was shown as Jno. Cuttin, age 84, in Sep 1684.2 He died after September 1684.2

Susannah Burton was born circa 1720 at Accomack Co, VA.1 On 27 Jun 1739 Susannah Burton and Joshua Burton both attended 6 days as evidence against Anne Mary Biggerby for John Wharton, who was ordered to pay each of them 150 lbs tobacco. (NOTE: It is assumed that they were siblings, not husband & wife.).2 Susannah was named in her mother's will on 24 November 1745 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Susannah Burton in the will of Amey Burton.1 On 30 Apr 1746 on behalf of Susannah Burton and others, William Arbuckle moved that Joshua Burton submit to the next court an audit/settlement of his administration of the estate of Thomas Burton (decd), or have his administration bond be put in suit.3 On 30 Jul 1746 Susannah Burton swore to the will of Amey Burton (decd) which was proved by the oaths of William Spiers and John Shield. Ordered that Thomas Parramore, James Rule, William Spiers and Robert Coleburne (or three of them) appraise the estate.4 On 31 Jan 1750/51 Susannah Burton, executor of Amey Burton, was cited to show why she had not submitted an inventory.5 As of before 26 February 1750/51,her married name was Taylor.6 She married John Taylor before 26 February 1750/51. She had evidently recently married John Taylor as it was on this date that Susannah Taylor (exr. of Amey Burton) submitted the inventory; the citation against her was dismissed. Her husband John Taylor paid costs.6

Archibald Garrison was born on 3 August 1743 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He married Kaziah Floyd, daughter of Berry Floyd and Esther Dalby, circa 1772.3 Archibald Garrison bought land on 31 August 1787 at Hog Island, N'hamp Co, VA. Archibald Garrison & wife Kesiah purchased 175 acres of the Hogg Island holdings of her late father, Berry Floyd, from her brother William Floyd for £500 on 31 Aug 1787 and on 27 Dec 1787 they sold the same property to Littleton Ward for £300 pounds. This loss of £200 in a fragile economy seems to have been the beginning of their financial problems.4 Archibald was named in his father's will on 18 January 1789 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son Archibald Garrison in the will of Jonathan Garrison, wife Susannah.1 He died before 28 July 1795 at Accomack Co, VA. On 28 Jul 1795 in Accomack County Court, Anne Outten brought suit against against the estate of Archibald Garrison for £174:05:05 1/2 current Virginia money that she had loaned him. His children were named as Molly, wife of Benjamin Floyd; Jonathan, Berry, Adah, Esther, Peggy, and Sukey Garrison.5 Administration of Archibald estate was filed on 26 October 1795 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Archibald Garrison was granted to Jonathan Carrison & Benjamin Floyd with Thomas Aimes & Custis Willis securities.6
