     Mr. Claude W. Drewer, Sr., a highly respected citizen of Saxis, VA, died Wednesday afternoon, 23 Apr 1958, at 4:00 p.m. at the Nassawadox Hospital. Mr. Drewer succumbed after a brief and sudden illness at the age of fifty-four. He was born and reared in Saxis, VA, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Drewer. A man of fine character and personality, he had many devoted friends. He had been an agent for the Home Benefical Life Insurance Co., for over eighteen years. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 24 Apr 1958). Claude was born on 18 June 1903 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was christened in October 1904 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ He married Hilda Cathrine Northam, daughter of Charles G. Northam and Sadie C. Johnson, on 19 December 1926 at Crisfield, Som Co, MD.⁴ Claude was living on 16 January 1942 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Selective Service).⁵ Claude died on 23 April 1958 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 54.⁶ His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁷

     John was born on 17 April 1905 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁴ He married Mildred Elizabeth Drummond, daughter of John Ellis Drummond and Annie Dulcie Waterfield, on 4 August 1928 at at Somerset Bridge, Som Co, MD.⁵ John was living in 1942 at Shields, Acc Co, VA.⁶ John died on 14 August 1982 at Belle Haven, Acc Co, VA, at age 77.

     At the time of his death he was a member of the Market Street Methodist Church in Onancock, VA. William was born on 28 July 1908 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² William was on the in 1917 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ He married Frances Elizabeth Rusher on 8 June 1940 at Portsmouth, VA.^4,1 William was living in 1942 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA.⁵ William died on 23 March 1967 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA, at age 58.⁵ His body was interred at Fairview Lawn Cem, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Gordon was born in December 1896 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Gordon was living in 1915 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ He married Irene Grinnalds Drewer, daughter of Lloyd McDuffy Drewer and Virginia Leigh Grinnalds, on 10 July 1915 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.³ Gordon died after 5 June 1923. According to his wife's obituary, Mrs. Irene Shaw, daughter of Lloyd Drewer, died Thursday, 5 Jun 1923. She was survived by her husband, two children, parents and four brothers. Burial was in the Drewer Cemetery (Pen. Ent., 16 Jun 1912)..⁴ His body was interred at Drewer Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Agnes was born on 2 February 1916 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Agnes was on the in 1917 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Agnes was confirmed at age 11, on 17 July 1927 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ She married Landon Bradley Barden circa 1932.⁴ Agnes died in March 1984 at Richmond, VA, at age 68.²

     Walter was born on 10 October 1920 at Richmond, VA.¹ He resided at, at Hobbsville, NC, in July 1991. Walter died in March 1995 at age 74.

     Landon was born circa 1915.¹ He married Agnes Shaw, daughter of Gordon T. Shaw and Irene Grinnalds Drewer, circa 1932.² Landon was a member of the armed forces serving at in World War II, killed in war.¹ Landon died circa 1943.¹

     Maggie, known as Mae to family and friends, worked on the farm and could do anything when it came to work. She cared for her mother and father until their death. She also reared two girls. Later Mae worked at different jobs until she married her second husband Lionel. Maggie was born on 2 January 1901 at Craddockville, Acc Co, VA.² She married Walter Lloyd Drewer, son of Lloyd McDuffy Drewer and Virginia Leigh Grinnalds, on 28 June 1922 at Exmore, N'hamp Co, VA.¹ Maggie was granted a divorce from Walter Lloyd Drewer circa 1940. She married Lionel Charles Scott on 14 October 1947.² Maggie was living at Craddockville, Acc Co, VA.² Maggie died in 1982.³ Her body was interred at Onancock Cem, Acc Co, VA.³

     George was born on 19 October 1926 at Jamesville, N'hamp Co, VA.² He resided at, at Cashville, Acc Co, VA. George died on 9 September 2003 at Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 76. George Luther Nicholson, 76, husband of Virginia L. Drewer Nicholson and a resident of Onancock, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 at Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox. A native of Jamesville, Mr. Nicholson was the son of the late George W. Nicholson and Edna Bradford Nicholson. He was a retired accountant for Dulany Foods and a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. A graveside service, Onancock Cemetery, was held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Matthew Killmon officated. Other than his wife, Mr. Nicholson is survived by a daughter, Ann N. Mills and husband Danny W. of Onancock; a sister, Margaret Sue Bundick and husband Clarence Lee of Exmore; several nieces; two grandchildren, Leah Virginia Mills of Richmond, VA and Joseph Nicholson Mills of Onancock. He was predeceased by a brother, William A. Nicholson..³

     Ethel was born on 25 December 1912 at Norwich, NY.¹ She married Walter Lloyd Drewer, son of Lloyd McDuffy Drewer and Virginia Leigh Grinnalds, circa 1942. Ethel was living in 1960 at Shields, Acc Co, VA.¹ Ethel died on 27 August 1989 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 76.¹ Her body was interred at Belle Haven Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     Hilda was born circa 1908 at Grotons, Acc Co, VA.² She married Claude Wesley Drewer Sr., son of Lloyd McDuffy Drewer and Virginia Leigh Grinnalds, on 19 December 1926 at Crisfield, Som Co, MD.² Hilda was living in 1957 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ She resided at, at Harrison House, Nursing Home, Snow Hill, MD, in 1993. Hilda died on 24 February 1996. Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.

     David was born on 20 January 1963.¹ David died.¹

     Mildred was born on 28 August 1907 at Craddockville, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married John Henry Drewer, son of Lloyd McDuffy Drewer and Virginia Leigh Grinnalds, on 4 August 1928 at at Somerset Bridge, Som Co, MD.² Mildred was living at Shields, Acc Co, VA.¹ Mildred died on 12 July 1988 at age 80.³

     Newman graduated from high school in 1959, and attended Ferrum College from 1959 to 1961 and East Carolina from 1961 to 1964. He has been farming with his brother, Jack, since 1964. His hobbies are tennis, boating, and hunting. Newman Henry Drewer, 53, husband of Bonnie Baker Drewer and a resident of Belle Haven, died Friday, 24 Jun 1994, at his home. He was the son of the late John and Mildred Drewer. He was a farmer. Graveside services were held at Belle Haven Cemetery at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 28 June, by Rev. Robert L. Gue and Rev. Douglas Tanner. Mr. Drewer was a member of the Craddockville United Methodist Church and served on the board in various capacities. He was also a member of the board of directors of the First Virginia Bank and the Virginia Vegetable Growers Association and a past member of the board of directors of the Virginia Sweet Potato Commission, the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club and Broadwater Academy. He was a graduate of East Carolina University. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 29 Jun 1994).
Newman was born on 17 March 1941 at Shields, Acc Co, VA.² He married Bonnie Virginia Baker on 31 August 1963 at Painter, Acc Co, VA.¹ Newman was living at Belle Haven, Acc Co, VA.³ Newman died on 24 June 1994 at age 53.³ His body was interred at Belle Haven Cem, Acc Co, VA.³

     Joan was born on 12 August 1932 at P.G. Hospital, Salisbury, Wic Co, MD.² Joan was living in 1951 at Chincoteague, Acc Co, VA.¹ She died on 7 May 2010 at age 77. Joan Jester Drewer, 77, wife of the late John E. "Jack" Drewer and a resident of Belle Haven, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, 7 May 2010. A native of Chincoteague Island, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Jester and Golda Dennis Jester. She was a member of Craddockville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Drewer is survived by two children, Gayle Drewer Shaw and her husband, David, of Craddockville, and John Ellis Drewer Jr. of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Troy Jay Farlow and his wife, Dr. Laura Kerbin, of Williamsburg, VA and Amanda Drewer Shaw of Charleston, SC; and a stepmother, Florence Jester of Chincoteague. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside of Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock on Wednesday, 12 May at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Armstrong officating.      Bonnie was born on 26 May 1942 at Painter, Acc Co, VA.² She married Newman Henry Drewer, son of John Henry Drewer and Mildred Elizabeth Drummond, on 31 August 1963 at Painter, Acc Co, VA.¹ As of 31 August 1963,her married name was Drewer.¹ Bonnie Virginia Baker died on 6 May 2011 at Belle Haven, Acc Co, Va, at age 68. Mrs. Bonnie Baker Drewer, 68, wife of the late Newman H. Drewer and a resident of Belle Haven, VA, passed away at her home on Friday, May 6, 2011. Born on May 26, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Baker and Virginia Drummond Baker. Bonnie had many interests and loves throughout her life, including playing tennis, gardening, arranging flowers for many friends and events, fishing, and cooking. She had been active in garden clubs, having opened her house for Garden Tour, and the local hospital auxiliary. She had been supportive to her husband of thirty-one years, in the family farming business and operation. She is survived by her three children, Holly Drewer Erwin and her husband William Swadley Erwin, III of Annandale, VA, Kelly H. Drewer and Terry Langley of Craddockville, VA, and N. Craig Drewer and his wife Michelle Houghton Drewer of Colonial Heights, VA and Craddockville; four grandchildren, Alexis, Wade, Craig and Hannah; and her beloved friend, Blanche Sarrotte of Belle Haven. A memorial service will be conducted from the Craddockville United Methodist Church on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Bobbie J. Henley officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow the service.³

      Frances Elizabeth Rusher lived at 32 Kerr St, Onancock, VA. Frances was born on 25 November 1917 at Portsmouth, VA. She married William Thomas Drewer Sr., son of Lloyd McDuffy Drewer and Virginia Leigh Grinnalds, on 8 June 1940 at Portsmouth, VA.^1,2 She resided at, at Onancock, Acc Co, VA.

      William Thomas 'Billy' Drewer Jr. lived at 656 Kelso Drive, Newport News, VA. William was born on 9 May 1942 at Accomack Co, VA. He resided at, at Newport News, VA, in July 1991. William died on 5 July 2002 at Lexington, VA, at age 60.¹ His body was interred at Peninsula Mem Pk, Warwick, VA. Willliam Thomas Drewer Jr., 60, passed away Friday, July 5, 2002 in Lexington, VA. A native of Painter, on the Eastern Shore, he has been a Peninsula resident since 1960. Mr. Drewer was presently employed wih Civil Service as an engineering technician at Public Works, Norfolk Naval Station. He formerly worked with Newport News Shipbuilding and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and Warwick Moose Lodge 1711. Mr. Drewer was preceded in death by his father, brother and one sister. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Isabelle C. Drewer of Newport News; one son, Christopher T. Drewer and his wife, Blythe, of Baltimore, MD; one step-daughter, Beth Wheeler and her husband, Wayne of Chesterfield, VA; one sister, Rosalie Taylor of Atlantic; his mother, Frances Rusher Drewer of Onancock; and two step-grandchildren..¹

      Irene Elizabeth Drewer lived at 5509 Doral Drive, Wilmington, DE. Irene was born on 6 August 1950.¹ She resided at, at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE. She died on 14 November 1995 at Wilmington, DE, at age 45. Miss Irene Elizabeth Drewer, 45, died at her residence in Wilmington, DE. Born in Onancock, she was the daughter of Frances Rusher Drewer and the late William T. Drewer Sr. She was an employee of DuPont in Wilmington. Other then her mother, she was survived by a sister Rosalie Taylor of Atlantic, a brother William T. Drewer Jr. of Newport News, VA, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She was predecased by a brother George B. Drewer. Irene was buried at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.

     George was born on 18 April 1955.¹ George died on 16 April 1988 at Richmond, VA, at age 32.¹ His body was interred at Fairview Lawn Cem, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.¹
