It was in this year that John & Catherine Coleburn sold the part of tract A6 that his father Robert Coleburn, wife Tabitha, left him in 1785, as 365 acres to Colonel John T.      Mary Ann Bradford was born in 1886.^1,2 As of 3 January 1906,her married name was Chance.¹ She married George C. Chance Jr., son of George C. Chance Sr. and Catherine A. 'Kitty' Mears, on 3 January 1906. He was shown as George C. Chance Jr., a 23 year old farmer, the son of George C. & Kettie Chance and she was shown as Mary A. Bradford, age 19, daughter of William T. & Annie M. Bradford.¹ Mary Ann Bradford died in 1943.² Mary was buried at Edge Hill, Accomac, Acc Co, VA.²

     John W. Chance was born on 10 August 1885 at Accomack Co, VA.^1,2 John was listed with his parents in the census of 1900 at Lee District, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John W. Chance, a 24 year old son, born Aug 1885, in HH#343 headed by George Chance, a 46 year old farmer.¹ He died on 23 December 1907 at age 22.² John was buried at Edge Hill Cemetery, Accomac, Acc Co, VA.²

     James T. Chance was born on 15 October 1865 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He died on 4 December 1895 at District No. 1, Acc Co, VA, at age 30. He was shown as Jas. It was in this year that Elijah Chance sold 40 acres of tract A48 to Spencer Coleburn and in 1774 Elijah and Leah Chance sold him 8 more acres.² He married Leah (-----) circa 1760.¹ Elijah witnessed a will on 7 July 1765 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that James Rodgers, Elijah Chance & Rachel Beach witnessed the will of Benjamin Nock.³ Elijah made a will on 28 October 1774 at Accomack Co, VA.      Leah (-----) was born circa 1740.¹ She married Elijah Chance I, son of William Chance I (Cooper), circa 1760.¹ As of circa 1760,her married name was Chance.¹ Leah was named in her husband's will on 28 October 1774 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my wife, no name, in the will of Elijah Chance and named as Leah Chance, widow of the testator when she relinquished her right to qualify to Spencer Coleburn at probate.¹

     Nanney Chance was born circa 1767 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Nanney was named in her father's will on 28 October 1774 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Nanney Chance in the will of Elijah Chance, wife Leah. She was given the chest that was my mother's.¹

     Fanny Chance was born circa 1769 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Fanny was named in her father's will on 28 October 1774 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Fanny Chance in the will of Elijah Chance, wife Leah.¹

     Patience Chance was born circa 1771 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Patience was named in her father's will on 28 October 1774 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Patience Chance in the will of Elijah Chance, wife Leah.¹

     Henry Chance II was born circa 1678 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ It was on this date that John Bagwell brought an action for 600 feet of one inch planks against Henry Chance, who failed to appear. Judgment would pass against him and his security, Robert Stanton, if Chance did not appear at the next court.² He sold land in 1739 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Henry Chance II sold 100 acres of tract A48 between Keller and Wachapreague to George Green saying it had been given to him by his father. The next year Jacob Chance, evidently another son of Henry I, gave a deed to George Green for the same land.¹

     William Chance II was born circa 1695 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Esther (21) Wilkins, daughter of Nathaniel (5) Wilkins and Frances Hunt, after 21 December 1717 at Accomack Co, VA.^2,3 William witnessed a will on 30 December 1717 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Hill Drummond, William Chance, Joseph Allen & William Chance Jr. witnessed the will of William Yeo.⁴ It was on this date that William Chance, Jr., who married Ester Ayres (widow and executrix of Richard Hill Ayres) petitioned for a division of the Ayres estate according to the will. Ordered that Mr. Danll. Welburne, Capt. John Watts, Charles Taylor and Samll. Welburne (or any three of them) divide the estate. William Chance, Jr., (as the husband of Richard Hill Ayres' widow) petitioned to be guardian to Ann Frances Ayres and Mary Ayres (orphans of Richard Hill Ayres) until the children came of age to choose their own guardians. The court granted his request and accepted Mr. Danll. Welburne and Mr. Sacker Parker as security. And on 2 Jun 1624 Easter Chance, formerly Easter Ayres, (executrix of the will of Richd. Hill Ayres, deceased) presented and swore to the inventory and appraisement of Ayres's estate. William Chance, Jr., (who married Easter Ayres, widow and executrix of Richd. Hill Ayres) presented the inventory of the divisions of the estate that he made for himself and the children.⁵ William witnessed a will on 22 March 1724 at Accomack Co, VA.⁶ William was named as administrator of an estate on 5 February 1725/26 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of William Chance was granted to his son William Chance with Henry Bagwell & Thomas Wise securities for a bond of £200.^7,8 William witnessed a will on 28 October 1726 at Accomack Co, VA.⁶ He married Rhoda Laughlan, daughter of Cornelius Laughlan and Mary (-----), circa 1730.⁹ William witnessed a will on 9 May 1733 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that George Douglas, James Walker & William Chance witnessed the will of John Martial, wife Mary.¹⁰ He inherited land in 1736 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that the will of Azariah Hunt of N'hamp (wife Ann) directed that his Accomack land should be sold and 2 years later the heir-at-law Thomas and the widow Ann deeded 364 acres in trust to James Wishart for William Chance and his daughter Patience and then it was to go to her heirs. Chance must have survived Patience, as in 1751 he left a home place of 364 acres to a gandson John Cord, and after his death the land was surveyed as 431 1/2 acres in 1813 for a division among the heirs: Parker, Arthur, John & William Cord. The land extended across the tract on the north side of the Wattsville road.¹¹ He bought land in 1737 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that William Chance and his daughter Patience bought 200 acres from William Gore which was part of Assateague Island.¹² William witnessed a will on 13 March 1741 at Accomack Co, VA.      Sarah Hewitt was born circa 1640.¹ As of 16 October 1660,her married name was Chase.¹ She married William Chase I on 16 October 1660 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA. They were shown as William Chase and Sara Hewitt. However, James Marshall shows him in the index as William Chance.¹

     Rhoda Laughlan was born circa 1700.¹ As of circa 1730,her married name was Chance.¹ She married William Chance II, son of William Chance I (Cooper) and Mary Drummond, circa 1730.¹ Rhoda was named in her father's will on 21 March 1733/34 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Rhoda, the daughter of my wife Mary and the wife of William Chance, in the will of Cornelius Laughlan. She was to be permited to live in one of the houses on my plantation and after the death of her mother the plantation was to go to Rhoda's eldest daughter who was to be baptised with the name of Margaret.^2,1

She was shown as the eldest daughter of my wife Mary's daughter Rhoda, the wife of William Chance, who was to be baptised as Margaret, in the will of Cornelius Laughlan.^2,1

To daughter Mary Daniel all my lands, reversion to my sister Elizabeth, the wife of Elias Bell. Daughter residual legatee. Mother Jean Collins to have the tuition of my daughter until she arrive at full age. Should my mother die before that time, then her grandmother Joyce, the wife of William Whealton to take her.      William Chase I was born circa 1635. He married Sarah Hewitt on 16 October 1660 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA. They were shown as William Chase and Sara Hewitt. However, James Marshall shows him in the index as William Chance.¹

     Joan (-----) was born circa 1650.¹ As of circa 1670,her married name was Franklin.² She married Richard Franklin circa 1670.² Joan was named as administrator of an estate on 6 August 1684 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Richard Franklin was granted to Joan Franklin, widow of Richar.² As of circa 1688,her married name was Chance.¹ She married Henry Chance I circa 1688 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ The grand jury presented William Twyford and his wife Jane along with Jone Chancey for Sabbath breaking.³ Jane the wife of William Twiford had been bound over to this court upon the complaint of Joan Chancey by Attorney General Deputy Charles Holden. It appeared to the court that Jane had broken the peace by assaulting Joan; ordered that the sheriff take Jane into custody till she gave bond for good behavior and the payment of court charges. Deposition of Jone Chancey: On Sunday, the 27th of November, Wm. Twyford and Jane his wife came to Chancey's "house and civilly entreated by her husband or family did furiously and without cause see the said Jane assault and beat your deponent in a most inhuman manner." Signed and sworn in open court on 3 April 1688, by Jone (X) Chancey. Deposition of Richd. Nicholson aged 26 years: Nicholson affirmed the above deposition.      Richard Franklin was born circa 1640.¹ He married Joan (-----) circa 1670.¹ Richard Franklin died before 6 August 1684 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Richard Franklin was granted to Joan Franklin, widow of Richar.¹

     Elizabeth (-----) was born circa 1680.¹ She married Henry Chance I before 2 April 1706.¹

     William Chance was born circa 1720 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He married Sophia Wise circa 1745.¹ William Chance died before 31 July 1753 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of William Chance was granted to Sophia Wise Chance with Richard Armitrader security.¹

     Sophia Wise was born circa 1720 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1745,her married name was Chance.¹ She married William Chance circa 1745.¹ Sophia was named as administrator of an estate on 31 July 1753 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of William Chance was granted to Sophia Wise Chance with Richard Armitrader security.¹

     Susanna (-----) was born circa 1700 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1722,her married name was Watkinson.¹ She married Cornelius Watkinson, son of Peter Watkinson (I) and Dorothy Gray, circa 1722.¹ Susanna was named in her husband's will on 2 June 1749 at Accomack Co, VA.      Anne (-----) was born circa 1720 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She married Robert Ardis circa 1740.¹ As of circa 1740,her married name was Ardis.¹ Anne was named in her husband's will on 18 April 1767 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as a wife Anne in the will of Robert Ardis.¹

     William Chance Ardis was born circa 1742 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ William was named in his father's will on 18 April 1767 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son William Chance Ardis in the will of Robert Ardis, wife Anne. He was given my plantation where I now live on the East side of my land, containing 100 acres.¹ William was named as an heir on 18 February 1797 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as William Chance Ardis in the will of John Bull, wife Tabitah. He was given my wearing apparel.² He was the security on a M.L.B. On 7 November 1805 at Accomack Co, VA. William Ardis was the security on the M.L.B. of Crippen Evans and Scarburgh Davis.³

He was shown as Robert Savage, with a son Rowland Savage, in the will of John Savage.³ He married Dorothy (-----) circa 1740 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴ Robert made a will on 27 July 1761 at Accomack Co, VA.      John Savage was born circa 1690 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ John was named in his father's will on 23 August 1709 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son John in the will of Rowland Savage, wife Mary.¹ He married Mary (-----) circa 1710.² On 3 May 1726 in Accomack Court Mary Savage presented and acknowledged a deed of gift to her 4 sons: Rowland, Richard, Robert & John.³ John was named in his brother's will on 29 December 1728 at Accomack Co, VA.      Patience Savage was born circa 1678.¹ As of circa 1705,her married name was LeCato.¹ She married John LeCato circa 1705.¹ Patience was named in her father's will on 23 August 1709 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Patience Lecatt, wife of John Lecatt, in the will of Rowland Savage, wife Mary.¹

     John LeCato was born circa 1680.¹ He married Patience Savage, daughter of Rowland Savage I and Mary (-----), circa 1705.¹

     Zorobabel Savage was born circa 1782 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Zorobabel was named in his father's will on 4 December 1791 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son Zorobabel Savage in the will of George Savage.¹ He married Mary 'Molly' James, daughter of Robert James and Mary Savage, on 1 September 1804 at Accomack Co, VA. They were shown as Zerobabel Savage and Molly James.² Zorobabel Savage married Sally Gillespie, daughter of John Gillespie and (-----) (-----), on 6 November 1810 at Accomack Co, VA. John Gillespie was the security on the M.L.B. of Zorobabel Savage and Sally Gillespie.² Zorobabel was named in his brother's will on 29 January 1818 at Accomack Co, VA.      Cornelius Watkinson was born circa 1635.¹ He patented land in 1664 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that a patent was issued to Cornelius Watkinson for 450 acres of tract A1, which is east of Belle Haven. In 1672 it was patented by William Anderson as deserted by Watkinson.¹ On 16 Nov 1665 in Accomack Co it was recorded that Cornelius Watkinson, Phillip Howard and William Darby were this day arrested by Mr. John Fawsett for acting a play by them called the Bare and the Cubb on 27 August last past.²

     Abigail (-----) was born circa 1680.¹ As of circa 1710,her married name was Watkinson.¹ She married Cornelius Watkinson, son of Peter Watkinson (I) and Dorothy Gray, circa 1710.¹

     Thomas Watkinson was born circa 1722 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Thomas was named in his father's will on 2 June 1749 at Accomack Co, VA.      Mary Phillips was born circa 1736 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1754,her married name was Bennett.² She married William Bennett, son of Richard Bennett and Sarah (-----), circa 1754.² Mary was named in her father's will on 18 November 1756 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as a daughter Mary Bennet in the will of John Phillips, wife Tabitha.¹ Mary witnessed a will on 1 December 1771 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Edward Gunter, Thomas Taylor & Mary Bennit witnessed the will of Arnold Morgan, wife Mary.³ Mary was named as an heir on 26 June 1775 at Accomack Co, VA.      William Bennett was born circa 1730 at Accomack Co, VA. There is no specific proof that this William Bennett is a son of this Richard Bennett & wife Sarah, but this seems to be a reasonable option based on records found to date in Accomack County.¹ He married Mary Phillips, daughter of John Phillips and Tabitha Watkinson, circa 1754.¹ William witnessed a will on 25 February 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Arnold Morgin, William Bennett & Mary Morgin witnessed the will of George Johnson, wife no name.² On 26 Jun 1775 his wife was shown as Mary Bennet, wife of William Bennet, in the will of Mary Morgan. No relationship was shown.¹

     Nanny Phillips was born circa 1738 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Nanny was named in his father's will on 18 November 1756 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as a daughter Nanny Phillips in the will of John Phillips, wife Tabitha.¹
