     Anne Steele Lloyd was born in 1843.¹ As of 13 June 1855,her married name was Stirling.¹ She married Archibald Stirling Jr. on 13 June 1855. He was the US District Attorney of Baltimore.¹ Anne Steele Lloyd died on 2 May 1890.¹

     Archibald Stirling Jr. was born on 13 June 1832.¹ He married Anne Steele Lloyd, daughter of Daniel Lloyd and Virginia Upshur, on 13 June 1855. He was the US District Attorney of Baltimore.¹ Archibald Stirling Jr. died on 20 May 1892 at age 59.¹

     Laura A. Upshur was born on 13 November 1816 at White Clift, Savage Neck, N'hamp Co, VA.^1,2 Laura was named in her father's will on 3 September 1827 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as a daughter Laura in the will of Arthur Upshur.³ As of 21 April 1834,her married name was Bowdoin.¹ She married Severn Eyre Bowdoin, son of Col. Peter (250) Bowdoin and Leah Teackle, on 21 April 1834 at Northampton Co, VA. Ann B. Upshur was the security on the M.L.B. of Severn E. Bowdoin and Laura A. Upshur, her daughter. Laura inherited that part of Upshur's Neck which, after her marriage, was called "Bowdoin Farm" and her she reared her family. Following the Civil War Laura and Severn sold the farm and moved to Baltimore.^4,5 Laura A. Upshur died on 13 August 1898 at age 81.^1,2 Laura was buried at Christ Church Cemetery, Eastville, Northampton Co, VA.^4,2

     Severn Eyre Bowdoin was born on 4 May 1811 at Northampton, VA.^1,2 Severn was named in his father's will on 5 December 1821 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Sever Eyre in the will of Peter Bowdoin, wife Leah.³ He married Laura A. Upshur, daughter of Arthur 'Long Arthur' Upshur V and Anne Billings Steele, on 21 April 1834 at Northampton Co, VA. Ann B. Upshur was the security on the M.L.B. of Severn E. Bowdoin and Laura A. Upshur, her daughter. Laura inherited that part of Upshur's Neck which, after her marriage, was called "Bowdoin Farm" and her she reared her family. Bowdoin, who died of gastroenteritis, a 78 year old son of Peter and Leah, born in N'hamp Co, a gentleman, husband of Laura E. Bowdoin. His son-in-law Dr. E. Finney gave the information.^1,2,6 He was born at Christ Church Cemetery, Eastville, Northampton Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Severn Bowdoin, son of Peter & Leah Bowdoin, 4 May 1811 - 7 Sep 1889.^4,2

     James Bowdoin was born in 1676 at LaRochelle, France.² He bought land in 1702 at tract N25, between Capeville & Oyster on Sea Side, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that William & Elizabeth Gelding sold his 200 acres of tract N25 to John and James Bowdoin, "Marriners of the Towne of Boston in New England." They are said to have been the sons of Pierre Boudouin, a French Huguenot, and Bowdoin College takes its name from the descendents of James.³ He sold land in 1707 at tract N25, between Capeville & Oyster on Sea Side, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that James Bowdoin sold out to brother John and went back to Boston.³ He died on 8 September 1747 at Boston, Mass.²

     John Bowdoin was born on 2 February 1787.¹ He died on 4 November 1793 at age 6.¹ John was buried at Christ Church Cemetery, Eastville, Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Peter Smith Bowdoin was born on 26 February 1796 at Northampton Co, VA.² He married Susan M. Jacob, daughter of Col. Robert C. Jacob and Elizabeth Hack, on 17 October 1818 at Northampton Co, VA. Peter Bowdoin was the security on the M.L.B. of Peter S. Bowdoin and Susan M. Jacob. They were marrie on 21 Oct 1818.^2,3 Peter was named in his father's will on 5 December 1821 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Peter Smith in the will of Peter Bowdoin, wife Leah.¹ He sold land in 1829 at tract N51, Old Town Neck, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Peter Bowdoin's son & Extr Peter S. Bowdoin sold as 494 acres to Leah Bowdoin. Before she disposed of her holdings Leah Bowdoin had sold a total a total of 607 1/2 acres in 3 parcels, and in selling each piece, she said it was part of the land she had bought from Peter S. Bowdoin. (NOTE: Evidently Whitelaw did not find the will of Peter Bowdoin, wife Leah, written in 1821 and probated in 1825, in which he named a son Peter Smith Bowdoin. In effect Peter S. Bowdoin sold the land to his step-mother, his father's 2nd wife Leah Teackle.).⁴ On 9 Mar 1843 the Baltimore Sun showed that Peter S. Bowdoin was appointed a Custom House Officer & Collector vice George Holt dec'd, which was an appointment by the President and with the advice and consent of the Senate. He died on 25 May 1875 at age 79.² Peter was buried at Christ Church Cemetery, Eastville, Northampton Co, VA.²

     Susan M. Jacob was born on 13 March 1796.¹ As of 17 October 1818,her married name was Bowdoin.¹ She married Peter Smith Bowdoin, son of Col. Peter (250) Bowdoin and Margaret (539) Smith, on 17 October 1818 at Northampton Co, VA. Peter Bowdoin was the security on the M.L.B. of Peter S. Bowdoin and Susan M. Jacob. They were marrie on 21 Oct 1818.^1,2 Susan M. Jacob was named in the settlement of her father's estate on 12 January 1824 at Northampton Co, VA. Peter S. Bowdoin and Susan his wife were shown as heirs in the settlement of the estate of Robert Jacob, John K. Evans Extr.³ She died on 27 June 1885 at age 89.¹ Susan was buried at Christ Church Cemetery, Eastville, Northampton Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Susan M. Bowdoin, wife of Peter S. Bowdoin and daughter of Robert & Elizabeth Jacob, 13 Mar 1796 -27 Jun 1885, age 89 years, 3 months & 14 days.¹

     Charles Temple Bowdoin was born circa 1850 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ He married Louisa Bowdoin Smith, daughter of William G. Smith and Elizabeth U. (-----), on 3 November 1875 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Charles Temple Bowdoin, a 25 year old merchant, the son of S.E. & Laura A.E. Bowdoin and she was shown as Susie Bowdoin Smith, age 29, the daughter of Wm. G. & Elizabeth U. Smith.¹

     Louisa Bowdoin Smith was born circa 1846.¹ As of 3 November 1875,her married name was Bowdoin.¹ She married Charles Temple Bowdoin, son of Severn Eyre Bowdoin and Laura A. Upshur, on 3 November 1875 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Charles Temple Bowdoin, a 25 year old merchant, the son of S.E. & Laura A.E. Bowdoin and she was shown as Susie Bowdoin Smith, age 29, the daughter of Wm. G. & Elizabeth U. Smith.¹

     Virginia Upshur Bowdoin was born in 1846.¹ As of circa 1866,her married name was Finney.^2,1 She married Dr. Edward Bowman Finney, son of Edward Oswald Finney and Margaret Susan Thomas, circa 1866.^2,1 Virginia Upshur Bowdoin died in 1914.¹ Virginia was buried at Mt. Holly, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Mary Bowdoin was born circa 1848.¹

     Arthur Bowdoin was born circa 1844.¹ He became a seaman and was lost at sea. It was reported that he married a young lady in Australia.¹

     Nannie Steele Bowdoin was born circa 1842.¹

     Severn Eyre Bowdoin was born circa 1840.¹ He went to sea in 1865 and was frozen to death off the coast of New Jersey, near Long Branch.¹

     Peter Bowdoin was born on 13 January 1837.^1,2 He died on 7 April 1913 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 76.² Peter was buried at Onancock Cemetery, Onancock, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Peter Bowdoin, 13 Jan 1837 - 7 Apr 1913.²

     John Upshur I was born circa 1650 at Occohannock Creek, Acco Co, VA.¹ He married Elizabeth Blades, daughter of (-----) Blades, circa 1670.² In 1672/3 when John emigrated to Talbot Co, MD, he had a wife and 2 children. John "Upshott" of Tabot County proved rights to 200 acres of land for transporting himself, wife Elizabeth and his children Elizabeth and Sarah into the province to inhabit.³ John Upshur I married Mary Thomas, daughter of John Thomas, on 19 July 1695 at Somerset Co, MD. This marriage was evidently an elopement for John Thomas, the father of Mary, caused John's arrest and had him bound over to keep the peace in the sum of £50. The entry in Somerset Co records shows: These presents may certify to all persons whom it concerns that John Upshott and Mary Thomas were joyned together in Matrimony according to the form of the Church of England and Customs of Virginia, this 19th day of July 1695, by me Tho. Teackle.² John witnessed a will on 25 September 1696 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John Massie, John Upshur & John Die witnessed the will of Alexander Massey who lived at the head of Messongo Creek, not far from the MD-VA line.⁴ John made a will on 31 October 1702 at Somerset Co, MD. He mentioned his wife Mary and his daughter Elizabeth Tudor. There was no mention of his daughter Sarah who probably died before his will was written.⁵ John was named in his father's will on 12 February 1707 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as my son John Upshur in the will of Arthur Upshur. Arthur gave his son Arthur Jr. the plantation where I now dwell containing 2,000 acres, 1,000 acres being formerly given to my son John Upshur by a deed of gift, which I now give to my son Arthur.^1,6 He died before 23 June 1720 at Somerset Co, MD. It was on this date that his will was probated. It was in the part of Somerset Co that later became Worcester Co.³

     Elizabeth Blades was born circa 1650.¹ As of circa 1670,her married name was Upshur.¹ She married John Upshur I, son of Arthur Upshur (I) and (-----) (-----), circa 1670.¹

     Robert Blades was born circa 1648.¹ Robert was named in his brother-in-law's will on 31 October 1702 at Somerset Co, MD. He was shown as brother-in-law Robert Blades in the will of John Upshur.¹

     Elizabeth Upshur was born circa 1670 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1700,her married name was Tudor.² She married (-----) Tudor circa 1700.² Elizabeth was named in her father's will on 31 October 1702 at Somerset Co, MD. She was shown as daughter Elizabeth Tudor in the will of John Upshur.²

     Sarah Upshur was born circa 1672 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She died before 31 October 1702 at Somerset Co, MD. She was probably dec'd by this date as she was not named in the will of her father John Upshur.²

     Ann Upshur was born circa 1658 at Occohannock Creek, Acco Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1680,her married name was Stott.¹ She married Jonathan Stott I circa 1680.¹ Ann was named as administrator of an estate on 28 July 1699 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Jonathan Stott was granted to Ann Stott, widow of the dec'd for herself and her children with Arthur Upshur & Thomas Dalbyes securities.² As of circa 1700,her married name was Dalby.³ She married Benjamin Dalby, son of John Dalby II and Margery (-----), circa 1700.³ Ann was named in her father's will on 12 February 1707 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Ann, the now wife of Benjamin Dobly in the will of Arthur Upshur. She was given 300 acres where she now dwells at Nasawadox for life, then to her husband for life & then to my grandson Able Upshur. He also named 5 grandchildren Amy Stott, Lydia Stott, Margaret Stott, Bridget Stott & Jonathan Stott.³

     Jonathan Stott I was born circa 1650.¹ He married Ann Upshur, daughter of Arthur Upshur (I) and Mary Hardwige (Hardwige?), circa 1680.¹ Jonathan Stott I died before 28 July 1699 at Northampton Co, VA.      Benjamin Dalby was born circa 1672 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Benjamin was named in his father's will on 20 August 1688 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as a son Benjamin Dolby (under 21) in the will of John Dalby or Dolbey, wife Margery. He and his brother Joseph Dolby were given 200 acres bounded by John Tilney, being the remaining part of my 450 acres.² He married Ann Upshur, daughter of Arthur Upshur (I) and Mary Hardwige (Hardwige?), circa 1700.¹ Benjamin was named in his brother's will on 2 October 1713 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my brother Benjamin Dolby in the will of Thomas Dolby, wife Joannah Dolby.³ Benjamin made a will on 19 January 1735 at Northampton Co, VA. To my dau. in law Johannah Stott ns. Levi and Prew. Resid. legatees my dau. Johannah Stott and all her children, viz., Abel, Laban, Bridget and Jonathan. Dau. Johannah extrx. Witt: Littleton Eyre, Jacob Waterfield, Jonathan Edmunds.⁴ Benjamin was named as an heir on 14 January 1735/36 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my father-in-law Benjamin Dolbe in the will of Jonathan Stott, wife Joanna.⁵ He died before 13 April 1736 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated.⁴

     Bridgett Stott was born circa 1722 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA.¹ Bridgett was named in her father's will on 14 January 1735/36 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Bridgett Stott (under 18) in the will of Jonathan Stott, wife Joanna.¹ As of circa 1745,her married name was Burton.² She married (-----) Burton circa 1745.²

     Jonathan Stott III was born circa 1724 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA.¹ Jonathan was named in his father's will on 14 January 1735/36 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as a son Jonathan Stott in the will of Jonathan Stott, wife Joanna.¹ Jonathan was named in his mother's will on 7 January 1768 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son Jonathan along with my granddaughters Joann, Ann & Henrietta Stott (under age), daughter of my son Jonathan, in the will of Joanna Finney.²

     Helen Upshur was born circa 1661 at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co, VA.¹ A N'hamp Co court order of 1673 refers to Arthur Upshur's child, not by name. It is possible that Helen lived to become the wife of a William Brown of the Eastern Shore who on 16 Apr 1683 then received of my fahter Upshot 20 head of cattle, one yearling and 6 calfs for use of my wife belonging to her estate marked 21 with my wifes proper mark a swallow taile onthe right eare and the other two marked croped on both ears and a slitt on the left ... Wm. Brown. But if Brown had married Helen Upshur she hardly would have had an estate of cattle of her own unless she had previously married. She must have died without issue before 1707/8 for neither she nor her children were mentioned in her father's will.¹

     James Dennis was born on 18 January 1756 at Beverly, Pocomoke City, Wor Co, MD.¹ He died on 4 November 1774 at age 18.¹

     Littleton Dennis was born on 27 March 1763 at Beverly, Pocomoke City, Wor Co, MD.¹ He died on 23 September 1764 at age 1.¹

     Elizabeth Day was born circa 1690 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ As of circa 1710,her married name was Dennis.³ She married John Dennis, son of Donogh 'Donnock' Dennis (O'Cane) I and Alice 'Ellis' Nehulian (O'Hulian), circa 1710. Lynn Perry states that Elizabeth may have been a daughter of George Day, but the records are not positive. Becky Miller reports that George Day was in the Pocomoke River area of Somerset as indicated by a 1674 debt case and from 1666 to 1672 he owned Crambrook in Pitts Creek Hundred. More research would have to be done to see if George had a daughter named Elizabeth, but the time period and location are right.³ Elizabeth Day died in 1757 at Somerset Co, MD.¹

     Donnock Dennis III was born circa 1700 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ Donnock was named in his grandfather's will on 16 February 1716/17 at Somerset Co, MD. He was shown as grandson Donnock Dennis, son of John Dennis, and given 100 acres of land lying on Littleton's Creek on the south side of the Pocomoke River in the will of Donnock Dennis, wife Elizabeth.²

     Wheatley Dennis was born circa 1716 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ He married Rhoda Peale, daughter of Thomas Peale II and Ansley 'Anslee' Savage, circa 1745 at Worcester Co, MD.³ Wheatley Dennis died before 17 January 1758.⁴

     Henry Dennis was born on 12 September 1757 at Beverly, Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.^1,2 He married Anne 'Nancy' Purnell, daughter of Judge Lemuel Purnell and Dennis Hopkins, circa 1780 at Worcester Co, MD.^3,4,1,2 Henry Dennis died after 11 February 1785 at West Indies. He left "Beverly" on 11 Feb 1785 on a voyage to the West Indies for his health and the vessel was lost at sea with all on board.^1,2

"Here lie the mortal remains of a woman who feared God but did not fear death. Anne Spence was the daughter of Lemuel Purnell and Denny his wife and the second wife and widow of George Spence. She was born March 19, 1762 and died January 13, 1818. She was the mother of eight sons, four of whom sleep in the ____ the grave of a tender mother."⁷

He died in Washington during a session of Congress which he was attending as a Represetative. He was a lawyer and resided in Somerset Co on the Wicomico River and served several terms in the State Legislature. James Upshur was the security on the M.L.B. of Littleton Dennis and Elizabeth Upshur, daughter of John Upshur, Gent. They were married on 4 Dec 1788.^2,3 Littleton Dennis died on 16 August 1833 at age 68.¹ Littleton was buried at Beverly, Pocomoke City, Wor Co, MD.⁴

     Elizabeth Upshur was born in May 1769 at Cedar Grove, N'hamp Co, VA.^1,2 As of 4 December 1788,her married name was Dennis.¹ She married Littleton Dennis, son of Littleton Dennis Esq. and Susanna Upshur, 03 Dec 1788 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. James Upshur was the security on the M.L.B. of Littleton Dennis and Elizabeth Upshur, daughter of John Upshur, Gent. They were married on 4 Dec 1788.^3,4 Elizabeth was named in her father's will on 29 April 1799 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Elizabeth Dennis in the will of John Upshur Sr.⁵ She died on 11 May 1819.³ Elizabeth was buried at Beverly, Pocomoke City, Wor Co, MD.²

     Sarah Dennis was born on 7 October 1768.¹ She married Francis Hutchins (71) Waters, son of John (39) Waters and Elizabeth (36) Hutchins, on 10 November 1785.¹ As of 10 November 1785,her married name was Waters.¹ Sarah Dennis died on 5 August 1804 at age 35.¹

     Frances 'Fanny' Banister Bowdoin was born circa 1778 at Northampton Co, VA. The Upshur Family in Virginia, 2nd Edition, page 35 shows that George Teackle married Frances Bowdoin, daughter of John & Grace (Stringer) Bowdoin of N'hamp Co. However, it would seem more likely that Frances, shown on her marriage record as Fanny B. Bowdoin, was the daughter of this couple's son John Bowdoin and his wife Fanny Banister. John Bowdoin, wife Grace, made 2 codicils to his will, the last one in Sep 1775 (will probated in Nov 1775) and he did not named a daughter Frances in either of them, or state that his wife Grace was with child.¹ She deeded land in 1800 at tract N51, Old Town Neck, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Fanny Banister Bowdoin deeded her interest in 486 acres to Peter Bowdoin. In 1829 his son & Extr Peter S. Bowdoin sold as 494 acres to Leah Bowdoin. Before she disposed of her holdings Leah Bowdoin had sold a total a total of 607 1/2 acres in 3 parcels, and in selling each piece, she said it was part of the land she had bought from Peter S. Bowdoin. (NOTE: Evidently Whitelaw did not find the will of Peter Bowdoin, wife Leah, written in 1821 and probated in 1825, in which he named a son Peter Smith Bowdoin. In effect Peter S. Bowdoin sold the land to his step-mother, his father's 2nd wife Leah Teackle.).³ As of 8 August 1801,her married name was Teackle.^1,2 She married Dr. George Teackle, son of Col. Thomas (400) Teackle III and Elizaberh Upshur, on 8 August 1801 at Northampton Co, VA. Peter Bowdoin was the security on the M.L.B. of Fanny B. Bowdoin and George Teackle.^1,2

     Sarah Teackle was born on 14 August 1759 at Craddock, Acc Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1780,her married name was Boisnard.¹ She married Dr. John Boisnard on 20 April 1783 at Accomack Co, VA.^1,2 Sarah Teackle died on 10 December 1785 at age 26.^1,2,3 Sarah was buried at Warwick, Quinby, Acc Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Sarah Boisnard who died 10 Dec 1785; age 26 years.¹

     Elizabeth Upshur Teackle was born on 17 March 1776 at Craddock, Acc Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1795,her married name was Yerby.¹ She married Dr. George Yerby circa 1795.¹ As of 9 June 1808,her married name was Upshur.¹ Elizabeth Upshur Teackle married John Upshur, son of Thomas Upshur (II) and Anne (342) Stockley, 06 Jun 1808 (bond) at Accomack Co, VA. Thomas M. Bayly was the security on the M.L.B. of John Upshur and Elija Upshur Yerby, widow.^1,2 Elizabeth Upshur Teackle died on 8 February 1837 at age 60.¹ Elizabeth was buried at Brownsville, N'hamp Co, VA.^3,4

     Dr. George Yerby was born circa 1775 at Lancaster Co, VA.¹ He married Elizabeth Upshur Teackle, daughter of Col. Thomas (400) Teackle III and Elizaberh Upshur, circa 1795.¹ Dr. George Yerby died before 9 June 1808.²

     Ellison Rue Hastings was born on 5 October 1883 at Marion Station, Som Co, MD.¹ He married Ida Catharine Brown, daughter of Noah James Brown and Louisa Alice Oliphant, on 14 August 1904 at Wicomico Co, MD.
