He was shown as Thomas Linton and given land near Revell Lewis and myself and after his death it was to go to my grandson Henry Linton in the will of Nathan Linton..¹

     Ranford was born on 10 March 1880 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     Lurany Marshall, son of Oswald F. and Jane, drowned on 28 Dec 1886 at age 4 (Acc Deaths). Lauren was born on 1 March 1883 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Lauren died on 28 December 1886 at age 3.²

     Molly was born circa 1810. She married Gilbert 'Gillet' Marshall, son of John A. Marshall and Hester 'Hessy' (-----), circa 1840.¹

     This child is based on there being one female under 5 in the house hold of Gilbert Marshall in the 1840 Census. (-----) was born circa 1838.¹

     Cordelia was born on 6 June 1874 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     John was born on 19 May 1811 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ The 1820 Acc Co Census indicates that John Marshall (wife Hessy) had two sons born circa 1810 and/or soon thereafter. Based on the following information, it is assumed that one of these sons was John Marshall who married Eleanor Evans, daughter of Richard. The marriage was performed by Joshua Thomas. This couple have not been found in the 1850 Census. In 1860 they were in St. George Parish, among people with Tangier Island names. There were five children in the household and Rachel Evans, aged 93, who is assumed to be Eleanor's mother. On 31 Oct 1865, "John Marshall and wife and others" brought a chancery suit against "James Hoffman (who was probably the father of Gillet Marshall's wife Sarah Ann) and wife and others" (Acc Orders 1862-65, p661). This recording only explains that Rachel Evans, widow of Richard Evans, "has departed" and that John Marshall is her executor, with Edward B. Waples, special commissioner. On 26 Feb 1866, Edward B. Waples deeded to John Marshall, 30 acres of land that had been sold on Smith Island, at the storehouse of John Marsh, on "Horse Hammock" (Acc Deeds 1865-67, p361). The land was bordered on the East by Shank's Creek, on the North by Josiah Sparrow, on the West by the Chesapeake Bay and on the South by "the nole" (?). While there could have been older children, the five shown in the 1860 are listed below. John was living after 1828 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA. In a deposition regarding the MD-VA boundary, Taffy Marshall stated that he moved to Smith Island when he was age 17 with a barge and a flatty..² He married Eleanor 'Ellen' Evans, daughter of Richard 'young Dicky' Evans and Rachel 'Betanna' Evans, on 2 September 1833 at Accomack Co, VA. Tully R. Wise was the security on the M.L.B. of John Marshall and Eleanor Evans of Richard..^3,4 John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Shanks, Smith Island, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Marshal the head of HH#1187, a 49 year old sailor with real estate valued at $1,000 and personal property valued at $1,000. Listed with him were the following Marshals: Elenor, age 49; Marg't., age 18; Peter, age 14; Polly, age 11; Rachel, age 9; and Wm., age 5. Also listed was Rachel Evans, age 95 and born in MD, Soloman Evans, age 45, born in VA and idiotic; and John Dies, a 21 year old sailor, born in MD..^5,6 He married Ann 'Nancy' Lurton, daughter of James Lurton and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Crockett, after 1884. John died on 30 June 1896 at Smith Island, Som Co, MD, at age 85.¹ His body was interred at Rumbley, Tylerton, Smith Island, Som Co, MD.⁷

     Eleanor was born in 1813 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.² Eleanor was living after 1830 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.³ She married John 'Taffy' Marshall, son of John A. Marshall and Hester 'Hessy' (-----), on 2 September 1833 at Accomack Co, VA. Tully R. Wise was the security on the M.L.B. of John Marshall and Eleanor Evans of Richard..^1,4 Eleanor was listed with her husband in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Court House, St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Elenor Marshal, age 49 in HH#1187 headed by John Marshal, a 49 year old sailor..⁵ Eleanor died in 1884.² Her body was interred at Tylerton, Smith Island, Som Co, MD.²

     Richard was born circa 1765 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.² He married Rachel 'Betanna' Evans, daughter of Thomas Evans and Euphemia 'Uphame' Evans, circa 1794.³ Richard was named in his father's will on 3 April 1800 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son Richard in the will of Richard Evans, wife Mary..¹ Richard was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Rich'd Evins the head of HH#1283, age 85 with and occupation shown as "none" with real estate valued at $250. Listed with him was Betanna Evins, age 70. Also listed with him were the following Sparrows: Josh, a 50 year old sailor; Sally, age 45; Ann, age 20; Jno., a 17 year old sailor; Henry, age 14; and Susan, age 4. This was the southern tip of Smith Island which was in Virginia..² Richard died circa 1857. He was not in the 1860 census..⁴

     Rachel was born circa 1776 at Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.² Rachel was named in her father's will on 10 June 1793 at Somerset Co, MD. She was shown as daughter Rachel Evans in the will of Thomas Evans, wife Uphame.³ She married Richard 'young Dicky' Evans, son of Richard 'old Dicky' Evans and Mary 'Molly' Crockett, circa 1794.⁴ Rachel was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Betanna Evins, age 70 in HH#1283 headed by Rich'd Evins age 85 with and occupation shown as "none" with real estate valued at $250..² She was listed with her daughter in the census of 1860 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Rachel died before 21 August 1865. It was on this date that John 'Taffy' Marshall sued John W. Marsh for division of their estate..⁶

     Margaret was born circa 1842 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married John W. Dise, son of Henry Dise and Charlotte Evans, on 24 January 1860 at Somerset Co, MD.² Margaret was listed with her parents in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Court House, St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Marg't Marshal, age 18 in HH#1187 headed by John Marshal, a 49 year old sailor. Also listed was John Dies, a 21 year old sailor..¹

     Rose was born on 10 April 1831 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married George Pruitt, son of William Pruitt and Rachel Doughty, circa 1852. Rose died on 28 June 1911 at age 80.¹ Her body was interred at Canton Ridge, Tangier Island, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Mary was born circa 1848 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ Mary was listed with her parents in the census of 1850 at Dames Quarter, Som Co, MD. She was shown as Mary Marshall, age 2 in HH#1604 headed by John Marshall, bircklayer.¹ Mary was listed with her parents in the census of 1860 at Smith Island, Som Co, MD. She was shown as Mary Marshall, age 11 in HH#1992 headed by John Marshall, a 35 year old birckmason.²

     Rachel was born on 19 September 1851 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married William John Stant, son of Samuel T. Stant and Maria Jane Crockett (Crockett?), on 27 June 1868 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as William J. Stant, a 21 year old sailor, the son of Samuel and Jane and she was shown as Rachel Marshall, age 16, the daughter of John and Eleanor. They were married on 30 Jun 1868..³ Rachel died on 29 April 1870 at age 18.² Her body was interred at Tylerton, Smith Island, Som Co, MD.²

     William was born on 24 February 1855 at Shanks, below Smith Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Acc Court House, St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Margaret A. 'Maggie' Tyler, daughter of John Tyler and Alcey Evans, on 29 December 1874 at Somerset Co, MD.³ William died on 19 August 1936 at age 81.² His body was interred at Tylerton, Smith Island, Som Co, MD.²

     Kendall was born circa 1812 at Accomack Co, VA.² It is assumed that Kendall Marshall, who died intestate by 29 Apr 1844, when his estate was administered to Gillett Marshall (Acc Orders 1842-45, p422), was a son of John Marshall and wife Hessy and a brother of Gillett. No marriage record for him has been found. Kendall's will was probated on 29 April 1844 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Kendall died circa 1844.

     Mary was born circa 1785. She married Robert Hall, son of Jesse Hall and (-----) (-----), on 18 July 1809 at Accomack Co, VA. Thomas Turner was security on the M.L.B. of Robert Hall and Mary Kellam..^1,2 As of 18 July 1809,her married name was Hall.^1,2

     Kessy was born circa 1802 at Accomack Co, VA. Kessy was named in her grandfather's will on 17 July 1820 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as granddaughter Cassey Trander in the will of William Willett Sr. She was given $20, the amount received out of her mother's estate by me for her & as I have made no charge against her for board & clothing, I intend the $20 to exonerate me & my estate from all claims.² She married Robert Hall, son of Jesse Hall and (-----) (-----), on 25 April 1825 at Accomack Co, VA. Kessy Willett is shown as alias Kessy Trader, daughter of Waitman Willett and Dany Trader and Ward of John Y. Bagwell on her M.L.B. to Robert Hall, son of Jesse, widower. John Y. Bagwell was also listed as security on the marriage..¹

     Mr. S.W. Sparrow, a former residence of Sanford, died at his home in Onley on 9 Jan 1926. He was born in 1850 at the Sparrow homestead, the son of Samuel S. Sparrow. He was a charter member of the Temperanceville Masonic Lodge and a member of the Sanford Methodist Church. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 15 Jan 1926). Samuel was born in 1850 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Clara Susan Byrd circa 1875.² Samuel died on 9 January 1926 at Onley, Acc Co, VA.³ His body was interred at Mt.      George was born circa 1854 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Rachel Ann (Sparrow) Marshall, wife of William J. Marshall, is buried on the Sanford-Saxis road, across from J.P. Cutler's chicken houses. The only other stone found in the plot was a foot stone with S.S., suggesting that it was a Sparrow burial plot. Rachel was born on 29 August 1831 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married William James Marshall, son of Samuel Washington Marshall and Susanna 'Sukie' Sparrow, on 16 September 1848 at Somerset Co, MD.³ Rachel died on 10 October 1871 at age 40.² Her body was interred at Sparrow Cem, Sanford, Acc Co, VA.²

     This is the 26-45 male son of Samuel Marshall Jr. in 1800 Census, who had likely married and was living with his father. No other record has been found. (1st was born circa 1772.¹

     Joseph was born circa 1728 at Accomack Co, VA. Joseph was named in his father's will on 22 April 1747 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son Joseph (under 21) in the will of Joseph Walker, wife Mary..¹ He married Grace (-----) circa 1750 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Joseph & Grace Walker sold the lower 50 acres of part of Whitelaw's tract A113 near Hopeton to Thomas Riley..² Joseph sold land in 1757 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Jospeh & Grace Walker sold a home place of 116 acres to John Sterling, but where they had obtained the excess was not determined..² He married Naomi Jenkins, daughter of Thomas Jenkins Jr. and Comfort Bayly, before 26 February 1760 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that the will of Thomas Mercy, wife Jane, was probated and Joseph Walker was appointed guardian to Mary Mercy, heir-at-law. Evidently he had married her mother Naomi, the widow of Thomas Mercy Jr. Between 1761 & 1762 Joseph and Naomi Walker sold 4 1/2 acres of tract A140 to Samuel Furniss, Goldsmith, 4 1/2 acres to George Stockley and the residue to John Milliagan. Joseph Walker had bought this land from Covington Cobin in 1757..^3,4 He made a will on 1 February 1767 at Accomack Co, VA. Son Joseph Walker. Daughters Ann & Betty Walker.
