While the first actual record of him living in Baltimore was found in 1835, his wife and eldest child (born circa 1830) were born in MD. It is likely that he married in Baltimore in the 1820s, but no record has been found. He died after 1860. From 1835 through 1860, John J. Wise is shown in directories and census records as a piano forte maker. While he may have been a craftsman working for another master, by 1842 ran his own business, which he shared with his brother, McKeel T. Wise. John J. was listed as the primary on this company (John J. Wise & Brother). This partnership was still in tact as of 1856.2 He married Maria (-----) in 1825 at Baltimore, MD.2

Starting in 1833 and through the rest of his life, he is shown to be a piano or piano forte maker. By 1842, he partnered with his brother John J. in his business (John J. Wise & Brother). This partnership was still in tact as of 1856. McKeel continued this trade until very late in life after he moved to Brooklyn. The value of his personal estate as listed in the 1860 Census was sizeable ($20,000). This is far greater than that of his older brother ($4,000), who shared the same occupation. It is unknown how he came into this money.2 He married Catharine (-----) circa 1873 at Baltimore, MD. While the difference in age between McKeel T. Wise and Catherine is stunning (over 40 years), it is shown that she is the "wife" to head of household and the children were listed as "son" and "daughter" in the Census and that McKeel T. (piano maker) is age 75..2 McKeel died on 7 September 1889 at Brooklyn, NY.2

Wise, Tully R. Wise, Tabitha L. Wise & Elizabeth A. Wise orphans of McKeel Wise.3 He married Lucinda Wells on 18 November 1832 at Baltimore, MD. The connection was made that he was the father of Elizabeth Wells Wise, based on the contents of 1850 Census, listing Elizabeth as age 16, which matches her age based on her birth date contained in the Bible of McKeel Wise. Another pair of documents supporting this connection are from county court and church records stating that Tully R. Wise married Lucinda Wells at the Methodist Episcopal Church (Baltimore City Station). This is the same denomination as was seen on the 2 prayer cards found in the Bible of McKeel Wise for Elizabeth Wells Wise. Also, supporting this connection is the match of Elizabeth's middle name with the maiden name of Tully's wife (Wells).
