Rachel was born circa 1742 at Northampton Co, VA. In Sep 1754 it was recorded in Northampton Co, VA, that Frances Wilkins, infant under 21 year (by John Smaw, her next friend and guardian), one of the daughters of Jonathan Wilkins late of N'hamp Co, shows that her father at the time of his death (adm 14 Apr 1747) was possessed of several slaves - Ben and Sarah. The slaves desecnded to the said Frances and her two sisters, Rachel and Joanna, infants under age 21. The three daughters were coheirs subject to the dowwer of their mother, Susanna. The said Susanna vested herself of the slaves as administrix of the estate and guardian of the three daughters. She soon married John Ellegood. They, the said Susanna and John kept possession of the two slaves and all of the profits from there on. Susanna died in 1751. Nathan Wilkins, brother to the above Jonathan and Uncle to Frances, Rachel & Jonna died in 1747 (adm 8 Mar 1747) unmarried. His sundry slaves (Mary & Dinah, woman & a girl) descended to the three Wilkins sisters. The said John Ellegood, after the death of his wife Susanna, held possession of all the slaves as guardian. However, Frances, after the death of her mother, chose John Smaw as her guardian. Since then she has frequently applied to her sisters, Rachel and Joanna for a partition of the slaves and their increase now living: Leah, Jack, Daniel, Esther, Ben and ... (paper torn). This petition asks the Court to order a division. Filed 15 May 1754 & the partition was ordered.2 Rachel chose a guardian on on 12 December 1759 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that she chose William Heth as her guardian..1 She married John (123) Stringer, son of John (44) Stringer and Flavia (36) Savage, circa 1760.3 She married Nehemiah Fitchett, son of Jacob Fitchett and Lisha Elligood, on 22 April 1762 at Northampton Co, VA.3,4 As of 22 April 1762,her married name was Fitchett.3,4 Rachel was named in her husband's will on 26 October 1764 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Rachel in the will of Nehemiah Fitchet.5 As of 25 May 1765,her married name was Watts.6 She married John Wilkins (489) Watts, son of John Wilkins (177) Watts and Rose Guy, on 25 May 1765 at Northampton Co, VA.6 Rachel died before 10 January 1770 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on her estate was granted to Laban Pettit..1
