Mapp Jr. died on 8 April 2010 at Parksley, Acc Co, VA, at age 94. Garland Bowdoin Mapp Jr., 94, husband of Roberta Rowe Mapp and a resident of Parksley, passed away at his residence on Thursday, 8 Apr 2010. Born on 30 Oct 1915 in Wachapreague, he was the son of the late Garland Bowdoin Mapp and Margaret Long Mapp. He was a retired engineer for the U.S. Government for 40 years with the department of Navy, and after retirement, sold real estate for 15 years. Mr. Mapp was a graduate of William and Mary; was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; served during World War II in the U.S. Navy; and was a member of Central Lodge #300 A.F. & A.M., the Eastern Shore Christian Businessmen's Association and the Kiwans Club of Accomack. Other then his wife, survivors include his children Anna Mapp Stoff and husband, Glenn, of Onancock, Richard J. Mapp and wife, Kathy, of Annandale, VA, Garland B. Mapp III and wife, Rose of Lynchburg, VA, and Cathy Mapp Tolbert of Virginia Beach, VA; Roberta's daughter, Leah M. Lutz and husband, Larry W., of Ashburn, VA; two half-brothers, Bill Mapp of Belle Haven, and Mason Mapp of Wachapreague; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services conducted at the Grace United Methodist Church in Parksley on Tuesday, 13 Apr, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Romy Velasco officating.      Mrs. John West, who died at her home in Wilmington, DE, on 7 Dec 1944, will be missed by the people of Saxis. She was the daughter of Mrs. Maude Taylor of Saxis (Pen. Ent., 15 Dec 1944). This article must have spelled her name wrong as her second husband was John Wescocki, not West. Viola was born in 1887 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² She married John W. She married Howard William Linton, son of George Washington Linton and Mahalia Jane Marshall, on 29 October 1911 at Lawsonia, Som Co, MD.⁶ Lillian was living in 1946 at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE.⁷ Lillian died in October 1974 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 84.⁷ Her body was interred at Taylor Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁸

     Arvergne C. Taylor was one of the men from Saxis that were drafted and sent to Camp Lee (Pen. Ent., 1 Jun 1918). According to his mother's obituary, Cecil was living in Baltimore, MD, at the time of her death (Pen. Ent., 29 Nov 1946). Cecil was born on 24 February 1893 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Cecil was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).³ Cecil was a member of the armed forces on 1 June 1918 serving at Camp Lee, Petersburg, VA.⁴ He married Virginia 'Jennie' Baker circa 1935 at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE.⁵ Cecil died on 27 July 1967 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 74.² His body was interred at Taylor Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶

Eliza 'Lill' Taylor, daughter of John Lindham 'Bud' Taylor and Martellin Eliza 'Maude' Drewer, on 29 October 1911 at Lawsonia, Som Co, MD.⁴ Howard was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁵ Howard Linton was living in Wilmington, DE, on 30 Jan 1944 when his brother Gilbert Linton died (E.S. News, 4 Feb 1944). Mr. Howard William Linton died at home at Saxis on 22 Feb 1957, aged 66 years. He was born and reared at Saxis, the son of George & Mahalie Marshall Linton. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 21(?) Feb 1957). Howard died on 22 February 1957 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 65.⁶ His body was interred at Taylor Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁷

     Ione was born on 8 June 1913 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² She was christened on 17 November 1918.¹ Ione was on the in 1927 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ She married Newman Lewis White, son of Levin William White Sr. and Flora Elsie Drummond, on 24 December 1929 at at Somerset Bridge, Som Co, MD.⁴ As of 10 July 1948,her married name was Phillips.⁵ She married Arthur R. Phillips on 10 July 1948.⁵ Ione was living in 1957 at Philadelphia, PA.⁶ She died on 3 November 2004 at Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 91. She was a resident of Chinoteague Island and died of small bowel obstruction. She married twice, divorced the first husband, and was widowed by the second, Arthur Phillips. She was a retired mail clerk at the IRS.² Ione was buried at J.W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.²

     Auvergne was born on 11 June 1922 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Auvergne was living in 1945 at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE.¹ He married Lucile Blanche Wessells, daughter of Clarence James Wessells and Clara F. Savage, on 4 November 1945 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.¹ Auvergne Taylor Linton died on 1 September 1997 at age 75. Mr. Auvergne Taylor "Al" Linton, 75, husband of the late Lucile Blanche Linton and a resident of Chincoteague died at his residence on Monday, 1 Sep 1997. Born on Saxis Mr. Linton was the son of the late William Howard and Lillian Taylor Linton. He was a retired accountant, having worked at the Marine Science Consortium, a member of the Saxis United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 159, and the Elks. He served in the US Army. He is survived by a daughter Jeanne C. White of Laurel, MD, 3 grandaughters, Lori A. Sandess and Jaqui J. White, both of Laurel and Dixie Leikach of Ownings Mills, MD, a great-grandson Eric David Leikach of Owings Mills, a sister Ione W. Phillips of Chincoteague and a special friend Dorothy Chelton of Saxis. Auvergne was buried at Downing's Cemetery, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.

     Lucile was born on 29 October 1921 at Accomack Co, VA.² Lucile was living in 1945 at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE.¹ She married Auvergne Taylor Linton, son of Howard William Linton and Lillian V. Eliza 'Lill' Taylor, on 4 November 1945 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.¹ As of 4 November 1945,her married name was Linton.¹ Lucile died on 31 July 1972 at age 50.² Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

     Jeanne was born on 17 December 1948 at Chincoteague, Acc Co, VA.¹ As of 16 May 1975,her married name was White.² She married Gregory Phillips 'Greg' White, son of Raymond Edwin White and Beatrice Ellen Rahn, on 16 May 1975.² She resided at, at Fairbanks, AK, in 1987. Jeanne Carol Linton was named in her father's obituary on 1 September 1997. She was shown as a surviving daughter Jeanne C. White of Laurel, MD in the obituary of Mr. Auvergne T. Linton. Jeanne died on 29 July 2003 at Williamsburg, VA, at age 54.²

     Mr. Arthur J. Martin, aged 36, died 10 Mar 1934 at Saxis. He was survived by: his parents Mr. & Mrs. James T. Martin; 1 daughter, Eugenia Martin; 4 sisters, Mrs. Sherman Wessells, Mrs. Mayo Lewis, Mrs. George Mears, Mrs. Winfred Godwin; and 3 brothers, Lettie, Parson, and Herman Martin (Pen. Ent., 17 Mar 1934). Arthur was born in December 1897 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was christened on 18 August 1898 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ He married Stella Beatrice Evans, daughter of George W. Evans and Virginia Lee 'Jennie' Mister, circa 1920. Arthur died on 10 March 1934 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 36.⁴ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Mr. Parson Martin died in DePaul Hospital on 10 Aug 1952, aged 51 years, as the results of falling off of a truck on Saxis. He was buried in the Dennis Cem. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 31 Jul 1952). Evidently there was an error in the obituary as he was survived by 3 sons, not 4. The fourth son listed was Kenneth. This may have been confused with Edwin's middle initial "K" which may be Kenneth. Parson was born on 25 December 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ He married Lydia Marshall, daughter of David O. Marshall and Laura Martin, on 15 August 1920 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.⁴ Parson was granted a divorce from Lydia Marshall before 1924. He married Inez Catherine Chase, daughter of Lorenza Kellam Chase and Rozenia J. Trader, on 13 June 1926 at Somerset Co, MD.⁵ Parson was living on 16 January 1942 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Selective Service).⁶ Parson died on 10 August 1952 at DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, VA, at age 51.⁷ His body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.⁸

     Inez was born on 26 February 1909 at Poulson, Acc Co, VA.^1,2 She married Parson Hobson Martin, son of James Thomas Martin and Mary W. Stant, on 13 June 1926 at Somerset Co, MD.³ Inez was living in 1961 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ She died on 15 August 1996 at age 87. Inez C. Martin, 87, wife of the late Parson H. Martin and a resident of Saxis for 70 years, died in Arcadia Nursing Home, Gargatha on Saturday, 31 Aug 1996. Born and reared in Accomack County, she was the daughter of the late Kellam Chase and Roxena Trader Chase. She was retired from the Shirt Factory and Taylor Canning Factory. She was a member of the Saxis United Methodist Church. Mrs. Martin is survived by four children, Edwin Martin of Saxis, Wilson Martin of Riviera, Texas, Jerry Martin of San Antonio, Texas and Emma Jean Hawthorne of Salisbury, MD. She was predeceased by a sister, Clarenda Evans.²

     His common name was Captain Bob. Arvandus was born in 1880 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Sarah C. 'Sally' Martin, daughter of William T. Martin and Georgiana Miles, on 1 July 1903 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.¹ Arvandus was living on 11 August 1943 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA. Arvandus died in 1967.² His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

Reared in Bellefonte, DE, he was retired in 1970 as an electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 313, New Castle, DE, and was a member of Peninsula-McCabe United Methodist Church, Wilmington. He was a charter member of Brandywine Hundred Fire Company, Bellefonte, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, Nur Temple and Oriental Lodge 27, and a member of the Odd Fellows. Funeral services were held at Chandler Funeral Home, Sharpley, DE, on Tuesday, 27 Jul 1993, at 11 a.m. Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, DE. Mr. Jamison is survived by a sister, Mary P. Jamison of Fairfax, VA (Pen. Ent.). Charles was born on 17 July 1905 at Bellefonte, DE.¹ He married Grace Lee Linton, daughter of Sewell James Linton and Mary Jane Drewer, on 28 June 1952 at First Central, Presbyterian Ch, Wilmington, DE.² Charles died on 23 July 1993 at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE, at age 88.³ His body was interred at Gracelawn Mem Pk, Minquadale, DE.³

      Cecil James Linton lived at P.O. Box 84, Saxis, VA. Mr. Cecil Linton of the US Coast Guard is visiting his wife and parents, Mr. & Mrs. Roy Linton of Saxis (Pen. Ent., 12 Mar 1943). Cecil was employeed with the Campbell Soup Company in Pocomoke City, MD. After retiring from that position he became a waterman. Cecil was born on 26 March 1921 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Cecil was living on 16 January 1942 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Selective Service).² He married Margaret Mae Glenn, daughter of Hugh Marvin 'Hughy' Glenn Sr. and Ellena Estelle 'Lena' Drummond, on 31 January 1942 at Wilmington, DE.³ Cecil was a member of the armed forces serving at US Coast Guard, World War II.⁴ Cecil died on 30 June 2007 at age 86.

     Lawrence was born on 28 February 1929 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He married Madeline Pearl 'Dimples' Marshall, daughter of Robert Marshall and Beulah B. Smith, on 25 February 1950 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.³ Lawrence was living in 1950 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ Lawrence died on 19 January 1993 at P.G. Hospital, Salisbury, Wic Co, MD, at age 63.¹ His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Margaret was born on 5 March 1921 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married Cecil James Linton, son of Roy Alven Linton and Lucy Mae Ellis, on 31 January 1942 at Wilmington, DE.² Margaret was living in 1953.³ Margaret died on 2 May 1984 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 63.³ Her body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.³

     William was born on 18 November 1916 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ William was on the in 1927 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ William was living in 1958.² He resided at, at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, in 1990. He died on 6 September 1996 at age 79.⁴

     William was born on 29 July 1941.¹ William was living in 1959.¹ He married Peggy Sue White, daughter of Harvey White, circa 1960.² He resided at, at Sanford, Acc Co, VA, in 1993. William Joseph Porter Jr. died on 8 May 2012 at PGH, Salisbury, Wic Co, MD, at age 70.

     John was born on 25 October 1947. His tombstone shows 1946..^2,3 John died on 10 January 1959 at age 11. John Keith Porter, son of William Joseph and Edith May Porter, of Saxis, died on 10 Jan 1959, aged 12 years. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 15 Jan 1959)..¹ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³

     Peggy was born circa 1941. Peggy was living in 1959.¹ She married William Joseph Porter Jr., son of William Joseph Porter Sr., circa 1960.² Peggy died circa 1970.

      Madeline Pearl 'Dimples' Marshall lived at General Delivery, Saxis, VA. Madeline was born in 1931.² She married Lawrence Kefford Linton Sr., son of Roy Alven Linton and Lucy Mae Ellis, on 25 February 1950 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.³ She resided at, at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, in 1993. Madeline was living in 1993 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Madeline died in 2001. Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.

     Irene was born on 4 May 1892 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ She married Gordon T. Shaw, son of George T. Shaw and Flora E. Crockett, on 10 July 1915 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.⁴ Irene was on the in 1917 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Irene died on 5 June 1923 at age 31. Mrs. Irene Shaw, daughter of Lloyd Drewer, died Thursday, 5 Jun 1923. She was survived by her husband, two children, parents and four brothers. Burial was in the Drewer Cemetery (Pen. Ent., 16 Jun 1923)..⁶ Her body was interred at Drewer Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     James was born on 16 November 1896 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA. James Earl Drewer was unnamed at the time his birth was recorded in Acc Co records..² He was christened on 23 January 1898 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁴ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁵ James died on 3 October 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 13. Earl Drewer, 14 year old son of Capt. Lloyd M. Drewer, fell overboard from a gasoline launch near Saxis last Monday and was drowned before his father, who was in the cabin at the time of the accident, could turn his boat around and reach him. (E.S. Hearld, Oct 1910). He was the first person to be burried in the Drewer Family Cemetery..¹ His body was interred at Drewer Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     Mr. Walter Lloyd Drewer, a farmer and produce dealer of Shields, died at Memorial Hospital on 14 Aug 1960, aged 60 years. He was the son of Lloyd M. and Lee Drewer, born and reared at Saxis. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 18 Aug 1960). Walter was born on 12 August 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was christened in October 1904 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.^3,4 He married Maggie Mae Drummond, daughter of Oswald Alonzo 'Lon' Drummond and Margaret Ann 'Maggie' Ames, on 28 June 1922 at Exmore, N'hamp Co, VA.⁵ Walter was granted a divorce from Maggie Mae Drummond circa 1940. He married Ethel Frances White circa 1942. Walter was living in 1946 at Shields, Acc Co, VA.⁶ Walter died on 14 August 1960 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 60.⁷ His body was interred at Belle Haven Cem, Acc Co, VA.⁸
