Richard was born circa 1696 at Accomack Co, VA. He sold land in 1723 at Quinby-Wachapreague, Acc Co, VA. It was in this year that Richard Kellam III (no wife shown) sold 50 acres to William Lingo (not traced) and in 1731 gave the 200-acre balance to his son West Kellam. Then in 1723 West Kellam sold 80 acres to William Lingo, who deeded ti back 17 years later. No further local record was noted of any diposition by West Kellam, but from a later record it developed that he had sold the 200 acres in 1750 to John Taylor by a General Court deed.2 He married Susannah (-----) circa 1724.3 Richard was named in his father's will on 8 February 1730/31 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son Richard in the will of Richard Kellam, wife Frances.4 Richard was named as administrator of an estate on 30 May 1744 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Sarum Kellam was granted to Richard Kellam with Isaac Smith security.5 He died after 1745. Whitelaws says no record of his death was noted, but in later years sales of adjacent lands gave the owner of this property as a John Kellam, who died in 1773 leaving a wife Bridget and a son George as heir-at-law. The latter died in 1819 and the next year his land was surveyed for a division among the numerous heirs; his holding totaled 384 acres, including a large part of the land north of the crossroad which had been acquired by him or his fahter. The home and 7 acres went to a Hulton Kellam, who bought up the interests of some of the other heirs. In 1858 a commissioner sold 300 acres of the late Hulton Kellam to Samuel K. Shield and because of his ownership the post office called Shield's later came into being, as well as Shield's Wharf on the creek, which ceased to exist following the demise of the steamboat traffic. After the death of Shield, his large holdings were divided amon his heirs, followed by some inter-family transactions, resulting in Alfred H. Shield becoming the owner of the home place of 115 acres. In 1938 a commissioner sold the property to Francis C. Duer and his wife Billye Atkinson Duer and 2 years later they sold as 122 acres to Lucius J. and Dorothy D. Kellam, thus bringing this land back into the Kellam family once more. Tract A15B is known as Mount Pleasant. A little salt-box-type house burned in 1938. Its age was unknown, but it may have gone back to 1722 when this part of the land was allotted to Richard Kellam III. The present owners have built a substantial moder home nearby.6

Thomas was born circa 1698 at Accomack Co, VA. He received land as a gift in 1700 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Richard Kellam I gave 500 acres of tract A15 on the creek to his son Richard Kellam II and then to the latter's sons Richard and Thomas. This undoubtedly included the original home site, but nothing in the records gives a clue as to just where it might have been. Richard Kellam I died 3 years later in 1703. In 1722 Richard Kellam II divided the creek part between his sons Richard and Thomas, the former to have the eastern part and the latter the western. The division line was what is now the road south from Shields, with a continuation on to the creek.2 He married Abigail Watson, daughter of Peter Watson (s/o Robt Sr) and Ann Shepherd, circa 1718.3,4 Thomas (45) Kellam deeded land in 1741 at Northampton Co, MD. According to Whitelaw (N113) title to the John Shepheard (died 1709) part, the northern or forked neck part, may have been passed to his granddaughter Abigail Watson, as in 1741, Thomas and Abigail Kellum deeded the land to their sons Jonathan and Stephen, saying that it was where another son Peter was then living. In 1772 a survey showed 237 acres which were divided equally, with Jonathan getting the western part in the fork of the branches, and Stephen the eastern half.4 Thomas made a will on 26 July 1756 at Accomack Co, VA. To wife Abegal whole estate for life. To son Stephen. Son Elijah. Daughter Anne. Daughter Sarah. Son Peter. Son Jonathan. Sons Stephen & Elijah & daughters Anne & Sarah residual legatees. Wife & son Jonathan Exrs. Witt: Littleton Scarburgh Major, John Kellam, Susannah Kellam. Whitelaw noted that he did not mention land in tract A15 because it had been entailed, but he named 4 sons. Whitelaw assumed the first mentioned son Stephen was the oldest and inherited the land in A15 and that the next definite owner of record was a Thomas Kellam, probably a son of Stephen. However it appears more likely that son Peter was the oldest and this Thomas Kellam, son of Peter, was the next owner.5,2 Thomas died before 30 November 1756 at Accomack Co, VA.3,5

He was shown as son Jonathan Kellam in the will of Richard Kellam, wife Frances.2 He married Esther Hornsby, daughter of John Hornsby and Esther Macomb, circa 1735.3 Jonathan (50) Kellam sold land in 1746 at Quinby-Wachapreague, Acc Co, VA. It was in this year that Jonathan & Easther Kellam sold 150 aces of tract A42 (between Quinby & Wachapreague), that he inherited from his father Richard Kellam Jr. in 1731, to Jeodiah Bell and 4 years laster Jeodiah Bell, wife Sarah, left this part of his land to son William.4 He bought land in 1747 at Accomack Co, VA. In 1738 Aaron and Catharine Acar sold 50 acres in the northwest corner of their part of tract A15 to Dormon Siluent. In 1803 processioning records gave the owner as Susanna Sullivan, beyone which point it was not traced. It was in this year that Jonathan & Esther Kellam sold 50 acres of tract A15 (north side of Occohannock Creek) to Dorman Sullivant, saying that it was part of 200 acres bought from Aaron and Katharine Acker. This is not clear, and it is uncertain whether he was confirming the previouis sale Acar-Sullivant sale, or whether Jonathan was selling part of the 150 acres he had bought from the Bells.6 He deeded land on 23 February 1771 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Jonathan Kellam for 20 shillings and the further consideration of natural love affection and good will which he hath and beareth unto Argol his son, sells 150 acres on Occohannock Creek, except the right of Jonathan to maintain the dwelling premises thereon where he now lives, to Argol.7,6 Jonathan was named in his son's will on 27 July 1776 at Accomack Co, VA.
