He was shown as my son Matthew in the will of Francis Costin, wife Agnes.³ He died before 15 February 1797 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Mathew Costin Sr. was granted to John Griffith and William Wilson.¹

     Sarah was born circa 1720. She married Daniel (43) Rascoe, son of Arthur Rascoe and Elizabeth (23) Freshwater, circa 1740 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Charity was born circa 1715 at Northampton Co, VA. Charity was named in her father's will on 29 April 1720 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Charity in the will of William Freshwater, son of William.² Charity was named in her grandfather's will on 19 March 1722 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my granddaughter Easter Freshwater (under age) in the will of William Freshwater.³ Easter Freshwater chose John Holebrook as her guardian on 11 Aug 1733 and Thomas Moor as her guardian on 10 Dec 1734.¹

Bridget deposed in 1737 that she was aged 29..² As of 15 January 1734,her married name was Eyre.^2,3 She married Littleton (51) Eyre, son of Severn Eyre I and Gertrude (23) Harmanson, on 15 January 1734 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 Bridget was named in her brother-in-law's will on 7 January 1737/38 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Bridget Eyre & her son Severn in the will of Neech Eyre, husband of Isbell Harmanson dec'd. (NOTE: She was a sister of Isbell Harmanson.).⁴ Bridget died on 23 July 1767 at Northampton Co, VA.²

     Henrietta was born circa 1712 at Northampton Co, VA. She married William (158) Kendall, son of William (49) Kendall and Sorrowful Margaret (91) Custis, circa 1732 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Henrietta was named in her husband's will on 19 April 1736 at Northampton Co, VA. She married Henry (21) Harmanson, son of Henry Harmanson and Gertrude (17) Littleton, on 7 May 1736 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Rose was named in her brother-in-law's will on 7 January 1737/38 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Rose Harmanson in the will of Neech Eyre, husband of Isbell Harmanson dec'd. (NOTE: She was a sister of Isbell Harmanson.).² She married William (19) Waters, son of John (7) Waters and Mary Maddox, on 10 May 1739 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

He was shown as Henry Harmanson, son of Gertrude Harmanson, in the will of Severn Eyre.² Henry was named in his mother's will on 11 September 1732 at Northampton Co, VA.      William Waters was a member of the Lower House of the Maryland Assembly from Somerset Co, MD, 1758-63. William was born circa 1702 at Somerset Co, MD. He married Rose (21) Harmanson, daughter of George Harmanson and Elizabeth (13) Yeardley, on 10 May 1739 at Northampton Co, VA.² William died before 16 January 1781 at Somerset Co, MD.³

     Sarah was born circa 1702 at Northampton Co, VA.² As of before 1720,her married name was Haggoman.³ She married John Haggoman Sr., son of Isaac Haggoman and Elizabeth Johnson, on 20 July 1720 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 Sarah was named in her husband's will on 15 April 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Sarah in the will of John Haggoman Sr.⁵ Sarah made a will on 20 December 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. To my dau. Sarah Williams 16 A. and water mill on Deep Branch adjoining Littleton Kendall's heirs. Whoever owns mill to grind John Haggoman's and his family's and their heirs' grain forever hopper free. My son in law Samuel Williams extr. Witt: Michael Christian, John Haggoman, Hannah Lane.⁶ Sarah died before 15 February 1764 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,6

     Yeardley was born circa 1712 at Northampton Co, VA. Yeardley Powell chose Michael Christian as her guardian on 11 Mar 1728/9 in N'hamp County.¹ Yeardley died before 8 October 1734 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Margaret was born circa 1714 at Northampton Co, VA. She married Clark Jacob circa 1733.¹

     Clark was born circa 1710. He married Margaret (24) Powell, daughter of John Powell and Sarah (14) Yeardley, circa 1733.¹ Clark died before 10 June 1735 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Mary was born circa 1716 at Northampton Co, VA. As of circa 1735,her married name was Johnson.² She married Thomas Johnson, son of Thomas Johnson and Mary (-----), circa 1735.² Mary died before 13 September 1774 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3

     George was born circa 1726 at Philadelphia, PA.² He married Ann Eyre (Quaker), daughter of Neech Eyre and Anne Mifflin (Quaker), circa 1753 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 George Mifflin (Quaker) died before 1756 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Anne Mifflin, widow, bought part of tract N5 from Obadiah and Priscilla Johnson. The purchase was made during the interval between the death of her first husband George Mifflin and her second marriage to Humphrey Roberts.^5,6

     Humphrey was born circa 1725 at England.¹ He married (-----) (-----) circa 1750.¹ He married Ann Eyre (Quaker), daughter of Neech Eyre and Anne Mifflin (Quaker), on 3 January 1759 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 Humphrey died before 19 December 1791 at Norfolk Co, VA.² He was named in a land cause on 18 October 1793 at Accomack Co, VA. That Ann Mifflin being seized in her demesne as of fee of and in a certain tract of land in the County of Northampton, and also of sundry slaves annexed thereto in fee tail, of which slaves the said Thomas was one, on the ____ day of ____ intermarried with Humphrey Roberts, father of the defendant, Edward Roberts, whereby the said Humphrey & Anne, in right of the said Anne, became seized of the said land and slaves in fee; that at the commencement of the last war between Great Britain and America, in the year 1775, the said Humphrey, being a Briton born and then resident in Virginia, sought the protection of the British Government and removed to and remained within the Territories of Great Britain from the year 1775 aforesaid to the conclusion of the late war, but without engaging in hostilities against America further than the peaceable citizens of the country at war are presumed to; that during the whole time of the late war the aforesaid Anne, the wife of the said Humphrey Roberts, together with the aforesaid defendant Edward Roberts, and her two daughters, her children by the aforesaid Humphrey Roberts, remained and resided within the State of Virginia; that the said Anne afterwards in the life of the said Humphrey, to-wit; on the 7 Jan. 1782, executed a deed to a number of slaves whom the said Thomas is one, in the following words: Whereas John Roberts of Northampton County, Virginia, being possessed of a number of negroes as slaves, and through adverse circumstances permitted by divine Providence under the present calamitous dispensation to overtake us, whereby I am separated from my husband and one child, thereby in my own experience have to witness the grevious hardship of being forcibly separated from those near connections whereunto the African slave has for a long series of time been subjected by the opressive practice of making them slaves, which I am fully persuaded is unconsistent with Christianity & totally derogatory to the Injunction of Jesus Christ our Holy Lawgiver ---- in which my eldest son Charles Mifflin of the City of Philadelphia being under the former laws heir to all those negroes after my decease, and now willing to unite with me herein &c. Emancipation Deed dated 25 Mar. 1782 - "I do certify that the above and foregoing is a true transcript of the manumission of Anne Roberts & Charles Mifflin on the Manumission Book of Records for the monthly meeting of the people called Quakers of Duck Creek, in Kent County and State of Delaware, folio 63, 64, 65 of said Book - Warner Mifflin - Recorded 25 Day of 6 month 1792. That soon after the peace concluded on by a treaty between Great Britain & America, to-wit: in the year 1783, the said Humphrey Roberts returned to this state and took possession of the whole of the said negroes in the said deed mentioned, including the said Thomas, and being so seized by his deed dated ____ gave and granted the said Thomas as a slave to the said Edward Roberts, the defendant, by virtue whereof the said Edward Roberts, the defendant, took possession of the said Thomas &c.¹

     Littleton was born circa 1712 at Northampton Co, VA. Littleton was named in his father's will 10 Feb 172(lost) at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Littleton in the will of Severn Eyre. He was given my plantation whereon I live and 230 acres on Hogg Island.¹ Littleton was named in his grandmother's will on 11 September 1732 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as a grandson Littleton Eyre (under 21) in the will of Gertrude Harmanson, widow. He was given my 237 acres on Hogg Island, 380 acres in Summerset Co, MD near Swansgutt given to me by dec'd fater Southy Littleton, £100, and Negroes Legroe & Abraham.² He married Bridget (18) Harmanson, daughter of George Harmanson and Elizabeth (13) Yeardley, on 15 January 1734 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 Littleton (51) Eyre was named as the executor of a will on 7 January 1737/38 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Littleton Eyre in the will of Neech Eyre, wife Isbell Harmanson dec'd. He was named one of the Extrs along with father-in-law William Burton and William Tazewell.⁵ Littleton Eyre was a merchant of N'hamp County in partnership with John Bowdoin and Isaac Smith, was a member of the House of Burgesses, 1742-61, and sold, 8 Dec 1739, 300 acres in Somerset Co, MD, which Southey Littleton had willed to his daughter Gertrude, who willed to her grandson. He bought land in 1754 at tract N43, Eyre Hall, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Anna Armistead (daughter of Hanncock Lee & his wife Mary Kendall) and her grandson John Armistead petitioned the Assembly to have the entail docked for this land, which was granted and they sold to Littleton Eyre.⁶ Littleton made a will on 7 May 1768 at Northampton Co, VA. Sick with gout. Accounts with long time business partners Mr. John Bowdoin and Mr. Isaac Smith (of Accomack Co.) to be settled and £2000 to be put out at interest and all to go to my grandson Preeson Bowdoin son of my dau. Sarah dec'd when he is 21. Also to grandson Preeson Bowdoin n. boy George. My son in law Preeson Bowdoin of Philadelphia husband of my dau. Sarah dec'd to be satisfied with items given him when he married my dau. Sarah including n. boy Esau. To each of my grandchildren Littleton, Severn, Peggy, and John, children of my son Severn £500 when 21. To my dau. in law Margaret Eyre my chariot and a diamond ring to her and Grace Bowdoin. To Miss Anne Holbrooke riding chair. Twelve A. and houses at Galls or Bridgetown to friend John Bowdoin for being extr. To John Harmanson storehouse and land at the courthouse given me by his father Kendall Harmanson. To my only child Severn Eyre the 760 A. plantation where I now live purchased of Armistead, 300 A. purchased of Gawton Hunt, 228 A. purchased of William Widgeon and Rachel his wife, 282 A. purchased of John Robins, my 743 A. Hungars Plantation, the 315 A. plantation purchased of John Warren and John Wingate, and the 126 A. plantation purchased of Obedience Roberts and Munk. Also I confirm the 486 A. given him by county deed where he now lives, the seaside plantation of 600 A., the land leased of Secretary Nelson, and 105 slaves. Son Severn resid. legatee. Son and John Bowdoin extrs. Witt: William Floyd, Jacob Nottingham, Richard Hewitt, John West.⁷ Littleton died on 26 June 1768 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,7 He left land in 1768 at tract N43, Eyre Hall, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Littleton Eyre left a home plantation of 1,570 1/2 acres to his son Severn; this was made up from the Kendall-Lee lands, this piece which had been bought from William and Rachel Widgeon, perhaps by General Court deed, the 282 acres from Robins out of N41, and 300 acres which was beyond the branch at the north and which came out of N44. The Robins part has been traced and the 300 acres will be reported in its turn; as these two parcels came from other tracts and were later sold off, they are not considered as really belonging to this tract although they were incuded in the Eyre plantation for many years.⁶

     Severn was born circa 1735 at Northampton Co, VA. Severn was named in his uncle's will on 7 January 1737/38 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Severn Eyre, the son of Bridget Eyre, in the will of Neech Eyre, wife Isbell Harmanson dec'd.² He married Margaret L. Taylor, daughter of John Taylor and Margaret (-----), on 28 January 1760 at Northampton Co, VA.^1,3 Severn Eyre was a member of the House of Burgesses from N'hamp County, 1766-73. Severn was named in his father's will on 7 May 1768 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my only child Severn Eyre in the will of Littleton Eyre. He also named grandchildren Littleton, Severn, Peggy & John, children of my son Severn and gave them each £500 when 21.⁴ He inherited land in 1768 at tract N43, Eyre Hall, N'hamp Co, VA. To my son John my 600 A. seaside plantation, and the 315 A. plantation my father purchased of Warren & Wingate, 915 A. in all. To my wife Margaret £2000 and £50 per year out of the profits of my estate until eldest son is of full age, the use of ns. Cate, Rose, Jack and Abel, 12 silver table spoons, two silver salvers, and one pint gilt cann. To my dau. Margaret £2000 when my eldest is of full age or at her marriage. My extrs. to determine the number of ns. proper to work on the secretary's land. On 8 Jun 1773 at probate the will was wholly wrote by the testator and presented to the court by John Bowdoin and Isaac Smith, together with a writing whereby the testator attempted to write a new will which he could not complete, and a certificate of James Taylor, Archibald Campbell and John Ramsey dated 25 Jan. 1773: To my son William Eyre my houses and lot in Norfolk Town purchased from John Tucker.⁶ Severn died on 25 January 1773 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ He left land in 1773 at tract N43, Eyre Hall, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Severn Eyre (wife Margaret) left the same large inherited plantation to son Littleton, but if he died, then to another son John. In 1787 Littleton Eyre left to brother John, to carry out the wishes of his father. Then in 1855 from childless John Eyre title went to his grand-nephew Severn Eyre, grandson of John's younger brother William.

     Margaret was born on 26 March 1739 at Norfolk, VA.¹ As of 28 January 1760,her married name was Eyre.^2,3 She married Severn (30) Eyre III, son of Littleton (51) Eyre and Bridget (18) Harmanson, on 28 January 1760 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 Margaret was named in her father-in-law's will on 7 May 1768 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter-in-law Margaret Eyre in the will of Littleton Eyre. He also named an only child Severn Eyre.⁴ Margaret was named in her husband's will on 15 March 1769 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my wife Margaret in the will of Severn Eyre.⁵ Margaret was named in her son's will on 21 May 1787 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as mother and named Margaret Eyre one of the Extrs in the will of Littleton Eyre, single person.⁶ Margaret made a will on 30 October 1809 at Northampton Co, VA. A Codicil to the foregoing will- I give to my daughter Sally Lyon in addition to the nine hundred pounds before given all my wearing apparel, my diamond ring and my gold watch. Dated October 30, 1809. Her will was recorded 14 Apr 1812. Administrator John Eyre. No order to appraise the estate. No administration records.⁷ Margaret died on 12 March 1812 at Northampton Co, VA, at age 72.¹ Margaret was buried at Eyre Hall, N'hamp Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Margaret Eyre, daughter of John & Margaret Taylor, 26 Mar 1739 - 12 Mar 1812, born in Norfolk.¹

     Sarah was born on 28 September 1739 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ She married Preeson Bowdoin Esq, son of Maj. Peter Bowdoin Gent and Susannah Preeson (Quaker), on 19 February 1759 at Northampton Co, VA. Severn Eyre was the security on the M.L.B. of Preeson Bowdoin and Sarah Eyre, daughter of Littleton Eyre, Esq., who gave consent. Joachim Michael was a witness..^1,2 Sarah died on 19 December 1760 at Northampton Co, VA, at age 21.¹ Sarah was buried at Christ Church Cemetery, Eastville, Northampton Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her as Sarah Bowdoin, wife of Prieson Bowdoin, died 19 Dec 1760, age 22 years, leaving an only son of 6 months of age.³

     Preeson was born circa 1736 at Northampton Co, VA. Preeson was named in his father's will on 12 October 1745 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Preeson (under 14) in the will of Peter Bowdoin, Gent. He was to be sent to Philadelphia to be apprentice to William Allen, Esq. or Mr. Andrew Hamilton, merchant..² He married Sarah (31) Eyre, daughter of Littleton (51) Eyre and Bridget (18) Harmanson, on 19 February 1759 at Northampton Co, VA. Severn Eyre was the security on the M.L.B. of Preeson Bowdoin and Sarah Eyre, daughter of Littleton Eyre, Esq., who gave consent. Joachim Michael was a witness..^3,4 Preeson was named in his father-in-law's will on 7 May 1768 at Philadelphia, PA. He was shown as my son-in-law Preeson Bowdoin of Philadelphia, husband of my daughter Sarah dec'd in the will of Littleton Eyre. He also named a grandson Preeson Bowdoin, son of my daughter Sarah dec'd, £2,000 was to be put out at interest and all to go to him when 21.⁵ Preeson was named in his brother's will on 27 October 1770 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as brother Preeson Bowdoin in the will of John Bowdoin, wife Grace. He was to see that my sons are properly educated and then bound out to merchants.⁶ On 3 May 1777 in N'hamp Co he was shown as Preeson Bowdoin Esq. in the will of Henry Guy Sr., who gave his son Matthew Guy all the land purchased of Preeson Bowdoin, Esq.¹

     John was born in 1695. John Haggoman deposed in Oct 1741 that he was aged 46..² He married Sarah (22) Powell, daughter of John Powell and Sarah (14) Yeardley, on 20 July 1720 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 John was named in his father's will on 16 March 1727/28 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son John in the will of Isaac Haggoman, wife Elizabeth. He was given 1/2 of all my orchards for 12 years. He also named John Haggoman's oldest daughter and sons Saluanias and John were named Extrs.¹ John made a will on 15 April 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. To my son John ns. Daniel and Tamar (in lieu of his right to the land) and my mill. Also n. wench Jenny, fellow Adam, boy Stephen, and girl Amy. To my son William ns. Peter, Rachel, and Judith. To my granddau.      Sarah was born on 23 January 1733 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ As of 7 November 1753,her married name was Williams.^1,2 She married Samuel Williams, son of John Williams and Mary Fountain, 07 Nov 1753 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA.^1,3 Sarah was named in her father's will on 15 April 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Sarah Williams in the will of John Haggoman Sr., wife Sarah. He also named son-in-law Samuel Williams and Sarah his wife and gave them my mill and adjoining land, and after their deaths to my grandson John Williams.⁴ Sarah was named in her mother's will on 20 December 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Sarah Williams in the will of Sarah Haggoman. She was given 16 acres and water mill on Deep Branch adjoining Littleton Kendall's heirs. She also named son-in-law Samuel Williams as her Extr.⁵ Sarah died before 15 February 1764.¹

     Samuel was born on 25 November 1725 at Somerset Co, MD.^2,1 He bought land in 1753 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Samuel Williams bought 60 acres of the Mary Widgeon part of tract N51 (this is the tract that contains Kendall Grove) from Nicholas and Mary Campbell. This was bounded on the east by the land of Thomas Widgeon's widow, which perhaps was the other 40 acres, but no deed for it ever appeared and eventually it also somehow came into the possession of Samuel Williams.³ He married Sarah (37) Haggoman, daughter of John Haggoman Sr. and Sarah (22) Powell, 07 Nov 1753 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA.^2,4 Samuel Williams bought land in 1757 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Samuel Williams bought 100 acres from Southy & Leah Widgeon. After an unrecorded suit, this part was later recovered by a Severn Widgeon.⁵ Samuel was named in his father-in-law's will on 15 April 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son-in-law Samuel Williams in the will of John Haggoman Sr., wife Sarah.⁶
Samuel was named in his mother-in-law's will on 20 December 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son-in-law Samuel Williams and named Extr in the will of Sarah Haggoman.⁷ He inherited land in 1764 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that John Haggoman, wife Sarah, left the One-Fourth Part of tract N51 to his daughter Sarah and her husband Samuel Williams for life and then to a grandson John Williams. In 1783 John & Edith Williams sold to William Simpkins.⁸ Samuel was named in his brother-in-law's will on 17 January 1764 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Samuel Williams in the will of William Haggoman, wife Margaret.⁹ He married Sarah (525) Dunton, daughter of Levin Dunton Sr. and Frances (215) Waterfield, on 4 December 1764 at Northampton Co, VA.^10,4 He married Margaret Nottingham, daughter of Thomas Nottingham and Scarburgh (422) Godwin, on 12 December 1772 at Northampton Co, VA.^10,4 Samuel Williams sold land in 1774 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Samuel & Margaret Williams sold his 300 acres of tract N51 to James Taylor.⁵ Samuel died on 19 May 1789 at Mathews Co, VA, at age 63.¹¹

     Betty was born circa 1722 at Northampton Co, VA. Betty was named in her grandfather's will on 16 March 1727/28 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as John Haggoman's eldest daughter in the will of Isaac Haggoman, wife Elizabeth.² She married Esau Jacob, son of John Jacob and Mary (-----), on 4 June 1741 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Betty (40) Haggoman died before 15 April 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. She was evidently dec'd by this date has her father John Haggoman Sr., wife Sarah, named grandaughters Margaret, Sarah, Elizabeth & Suanna Jacobs in his will instead of her.³

     John was born circa 1720 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Mary (-----) circa 1745.¹ He married Elizabeth 'Betty' Jacob, daughter of Hancock Jacob Sr. and Elizabeth Bell, on 11 March 1755 at Northampton Co, VA. Henry Tomlinson was the security on the M.L.B. of John Haggoman Jr. and Betty Jacob, daughter of Hancock Jacob, who gave consent. Jas. Parker & Eyre Jacob & Elias Dunton witnesses..³ John was named in his father's will on 15 April 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son John in the will of John Haggoman Sr., wife Sarah. He was given Negroes Daniel & Tamar, in lieu of his right to the land, and my mill.⁴ John was named in his brother's will on 17 January 1764 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my brother John Haggoman in the will of William Haggoman, wife Margaret.⁵ John made a will on 8 March 1764 at Northampton Co, VA. To loving wife Betty the use of my 350 A. plantation whereon I now live (and then to my son John) and all my estate. [Negro?] fellow Jacob with lower plantation of 250 A. at Maggotty Bay to be rented, and then to son Robert. Wife to educate my children until eldest son John is 21. If my sons John or Robert die within age or without heirs, then my lower plantation to my son William. To child wife goes with, three Negroes.      Mary was born circa 1740. She married John (39) Haggoman Jr., son of John Haggoman Sr. and Sarah (22) Powell, circa 1745.¹ As of circa 1760,her married name was Haggoman.¹

     Esau was born circa 1716 at Northampton Co, VA. Esau was named in his father's will on 8 February 1728/29 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Esau (under 18) in the will of John Jacob, wife Mary.¹ He married Betty (40) Haggoman, daughter of John Haggoman Sr. and Sarah (22) Powell, on 4 June 1741 at Northampton Co, VA.² He married Vianna Gray Pitts, daughter of Major Pitts, on 12 November 1762 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3,4 Esau was named in his brother-in-law's will on 17 January 1764 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as a son Thomas in the will of Thomas Johnson, wife Mary. He was given the southern part of my land..² He married Mary (25) Powell, daughter of John Powell and Sarah (14) Yeardley, circa 1735.³ Thomas Johnson sold land on 4 November 1736 at tract Winter Quarter, Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that Thomas Johnson with wife Mary Johnson, daughter of John Powell, of Northampton Co, VA sold 200 acres to John Eshum of same.⁴ Thomas died before 12 January 1768 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,5

He was shown as Thomas Scott of Hungars Parish. To my son Benjamin 150 A. and for want of his heirs to my dau. Mary Scott. Dau. Mary to maintain the land until Benjamin is of lawful age. Dau.      Matilda was born circa 1734 at Northampton Co, VA. Matilda was named in her father's will on 6 March 1758 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as a daughter Matilda Johnson in the will of Kelly Johnson, wife Beautifilia..² As of 6 January 1761,her married name was Christian.^3,1 She married William (48) Christian, son of Dr. Michael Christian and Rose (26) Powell, on 6 January 1761 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,1 Matilda was named in her husband's will on 13 February 1773 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Matilda in the will of William Christian.⁴ As of 28 February 1775,her married name was Ames.³ She married Shadrack Ames, son of Thomas Ames II and Elisha 'Lisha' Hilton, on 28 February 1775 at Northampton Co, VA.³

     Gustavus was born circa 1735 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Elizabeth (50) Christian, daughter of Dr. Michael Christian and Rose (26) Powell, 07 Jun 1760 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA.^1,2 Gustavus died before January 1778 at Edgecomb Co, NC. Gustavus named a wife Judith and referred to children living in Virginia on the eastern shore..³

     Sarah was born circa 1731 at Northampton Co, VA.

     Henry was born circa 1600 at England. He deposed on 27 Mar 1637 in N'hamp County that he was aged 33, but in Apr 1655 said he was aged 60..¹ Henry Williams arrived in Virginia in the Treasurer in 1613 and was living at Jordan's Journey, Charles Cittie, at the time of the census of 1623 and the muster of 1624/5, with his wife Susan. He settled on the Eastern Shore in N'hamp County where on 4 May 1635 the court certified that he hath remained in this land 20 years doing much service for the Country and was due land. He married Susan Andrews before January 1624/25 at Northampton Co, VA. On 6 Sep 1636 he received a patent for 150 acres on Old Plantation Creek, claiming 100 acres as an Ancient Planter and an additional 50 acres for the transportation of Susan Andrews, possibly his wife..² Henry (1) Williams patented land in 1635 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that it was recorded as basis for a certificate for land: "For as much as Henry Williams doth make appeare by sufficient testymony or our Court that he hath remained in his land 20 years doing much service for the Country, we therefore certifie the Same for the truth." The words "in this land" are puzzling; if this meant "in Virginia" he was simply one of the "ancient planter;" if it actually meant "on the Shore" he may hae been one of the unknown men of the Dale's Gift detachment, or one of the tenants for the Dale plantation (N17) at the earlist attempt to settle there. If either is true, he might have remained here on his own, although he is not listed as being on the Shore in either of the early musters. In 1636 he received a patent for 150 acres and 2 years later another increasing this to 200 acres.³ He married Margery (-----) before 20 February 1638/39 at Northampton Co, VA. On 20 Feb 1638/9 he obtained a new patent for this land, adding another 50 acres for the transportation of Margery Williams, probably his second wife..⁴ Henry witnessed a will on 8 November 1641 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Henry Williams witnessed the will of Robert Newton..¹ Henry was named as an heir on 29 April 1646 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Nicholas Hall bequeathed "two calves for Henry Williams, the first to Mary and the second to Jane.".¹ He deeded land as a gift in 1657 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Henry Williams gave 50 acres of tract N20, called Paules Field, to his son-in-law James Walker as a lease for 99 years.³ Henry made a will on 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. To Ann Williams the daughter of my son Tobias Williams dec'd one heifer. To Elizabeth Walker the dau. of my son-in-law James Walker one heifer. To my two sons Henry and Francis Williams all the rest of my cattle.      Susan was born circa 1600 at England. Susan, wife of Henry Williams, came in the William & Thomas in 1618. As of before January 1624/25,her married name was Williams.¹ She married Henry (1) Williams before January 1624/25 at Northampton Co, VA. On 6 Sep 1636 he received a patent for 150 acres on Old Plantation Creek, claiming 100 acres as an Ancient Planter and an additional 50 acres for the transportation of Susan Andrews, possibly his wife..¹ Susan died before 20 February 1638/39.²

     Margery was born circa 1605 at England. As of before 20 February 1638/39,her married name was Williams.¹ She married Henry (1) Williams before 20 February 1638/39 at Northampton Co, VA. On 20 Feb 1638/9 he obtained a new patent for this land, adding another 50 acres for the transportation of Margery Williams, probably his second wife..¹ Margery was named as an heir on 10 November 1646 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Margery Williams was given a heifer in the will of Lt. Col. Edward Douglas..² Margery was named in her husband's will on 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my wife Margery in the will of Henry Williams..^1,3

     Tobias was born circa 1630 at Northampton Co, VA. Tobias died before 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA.^1,2

     Jane was born circa 1632 at Northampton Co, VA. Jane Williams was given a calf by Henry Bagwell on 25 May 1645 in N'hamp County.¹ She married James Walker circa 1650 at Northampton Co, VA. Jane Williams married James Walker, to whom her father gave a 99-year lease of 50 acres called "Paules Field" out of his land on 2 Nov 1657. On 10 Apr 1665 James and Jean Walker assigned their interest in this land to John Michael..^1,2

     Mary (4) Williams was born in 1649 at Northampton Co, VA.² As of circa 1672,her married name was Mariner.³ She married Richard Mariner Sr. circa 1672.^3,4 Mary (4) Williams gave a deposition in May 1675 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Mary Mariner, age 26, when she gave a deposition.² She released her rights in land in 1678 at tract A125, Bloxom-Guilford, Acc Co, VA. It was in this year that Henry Sadbury sold the eastern 115 acres of tract A125 to Thomas Besant and Richard and Mary Marriner released to Besant any right they might have in the land.³ Mary was named in her brother's will on 15 November 1689 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Mary Marriner who presented the will of Henry Williams. According to Dorman it has been suggested that Mary Marriner was his daughter, however no evidence confirms this. (NOTE: However, she did present his will and why would she have his will if she was not related to him in some way. The assumption here is that she was his sister, although she was not listed in Henry (1) William's will. Dorman did show that Henry (5) Williams had a sister Mary (4) Williams, but showed nothing more about her. Her birth year of 1649 based on her deposition, whould make her the right age to be his younger sister.) Her husband Richard Marriner and her children Elizabeth, Richard Jr., William and Thomas Marriner were also named in Henry's will.^5,6 As of before 20 September 1693,her married name was Prettyman.⁷ She married John Prettyman II, son of John Prettyman I and (-----) (-----), before 20 September 1693. On 20 Sep 1693 Mary Marriner was shown as a married woman (having married John Prittiman) and thus could not be sued by Henry Allin.⁷

     Henry was born in 1644 at Northampton Co, VA. Henry Williams deposed on 18 Feb 1681/2 that he was aged 39..² Henry was named in his father's will on 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son Henry Williams in the will of Henry Williams, wife Margery. Henry and his brother Francis got all the rest of my cattle and all my land lying at the head of Old Plantation Creek to be equally divided after mine and my wife's decease, excepting the 50 acres given to my son-in-law James Walker.³ Henry bought land on 16 September 1672 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Henry Williams purchased 70 acres on Nuswattocks Creek in Accomack County (between Folly Creek and Finney's Creek) from Thomas Bagwell, wife Ann Stockley, and in 1673 with his brother Francis Williams acquired an additional 200 acres in exchange for their Old Plantation Creek inheritance, and the Williams brothers also bought 70 acres adjacent from John & Ann Bagwell.


On 16 May 1679 he and his brother Francis (joined by his wife Jane) conveyed 120 acres to Isaac Metcalfe..^2,4 He sold land in 1679 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Henry & Francis Williams sold 120 acres of tract A66 to Isaak Medcalfe. The deed was also signed by their sister Jane Williams, who later married James Walker Sr.⁵ He gave by deed of gift on 15 February 1681/82 at Accomack Co, VA. Williams with 2 tithes on Capt. Custis's list. He was listed near Henry Custis, Hen Allin (ye bigger), Walter Harigs, Isaac Medcalfe, Hen. Chancy & Wm. Burton. He was security on the administration of an estate on 2 April 1688 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Henry Williams and Thomas Stockley were securities on the administartion of the estate of John Prettiman to his son John Prettiman.⁷ He made a will on 15 November 1689 at Accomack Co, VA.^8,6,9 Henry died before 21 June 1692 at Accomack Co, VA.^2,8,9 In 1693 a Francis Williams of Sussex County, Pennsylvania (now Delaware) sold 170 acres of Whitelaw's tract A66 to James Walker Jr. The deed stated that Henry and Francis Williams both were dead, so he must have been a son of one of them, but did not say which, and young Walker must have been his cousin. The land was on the south side of little Nuswattocks Creek near its mouth, and it soon becamed known as James Walker's Branch, then just Walker's Branch, then Metcalf's Branch, and finally the Bull Branch or Run of today.⁵

     Francis was born in 1649 at Northampton Co, VA. Francis Williams deposed in May 1671 that he was aged 22..² Francis was named in his father's will on 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son Francis Williams in the will of Henry Williams, wife Margery.³ He married Jane (-----) circa 1670.⁴ Francis was named as an heir on 16 September 1679 at Somerset Co, MD. He was shown as Francis Williams in the will of Southy Littleton. He was given 300 acres in Somerset County, MD, where he now lives provided he pays for it as shown by my books.⁵ Francis was living on 31 July 1682 at Sussex Co, DE. It was on this date that Francis Williams had moved to Sussex Co, DE, where he had a grant of 400 acres and purchased an additional 400 acres on 4 Oct 1687..² He married Elizabeth (-----) circa 1695.⁴ Francis died before 28 March 1720 at Sussex Co, DE.⁴

     James was born circa 1625 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Jane (3) Williams, daughter of Henry (1) Williams and Susan Andrews, circa 1650 at Northampton Co, VA. Jane Williams married James Walker, to whom her father gave a 99-year lease of 50 acres called "Paules Field" out of his land on 2 Nov 1657. On 10 Apr 1665 James and Jean Walker assigned their interest in this land to John Michael..^1,2 James was named as an heir on 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as a son-in-law James Walker in the will of Henry Williams, wife Margery. He also named Elizabeth Walker, the daughter of my son-in-law James Walker, and another granddaughter Margery Walker..²

     James was born in 1655 at Northampton Co, VA. James Walker deposed in Mar 1681/2 that he was aged 27..¹ James witnessed a will on 7 November 1688 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that William Dennsion, Henry Allen Jr. and James Walker Jr. witnessed the will of William Sacker.² James bought land on 20 June 1693 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that James Walker Junr., planter of Accomack County, purchased 170 acres from Francis (6) Williams, but as a resident of Sussex Co, DE, sold that land on 10 Dec 1698..¹ James was living in 1698 at Sussex Co, DE.¹

     Elizabeth was born circa 1657 at Northampton Co, VA. Elizabeth was named in her grandfather's will on 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as a granddaughter Elizabeth Walker in the will of Henry Williams, wife Margery..²

     Margery was born circa 1659 at Northampton Co, VA. Margery was named in her grandfather's will on 9 June 1661 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as a granddaughter Margery Walker in the will of Henry Williams, wife Margery..²

     John was born circa 1670 at Northampton Co, VA. John witnessed a will on 27 February 1688 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John Williams Sr. and Henry Bech witnessed the will of William Daniel, wife Sarah.² John was named in his father's will on 15 November 1689 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son John Williams and given all my land in the will of Henry Williams..³ John died before 22 June 1692 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     Jane was born circa 1650. She married Francis (6) Williams, son of Henry (1) Williams and Margery (-----), circa 1670.¹ Jane died before 20 June 1693. She evidently died by this date as no wife relinquished dower when Francis William sold land in Acc County..¹

     Elizabeth was born circa 1655. She married Francis (6) Williams, son of Henry (1) Williams and Margery (-----), circa 1695.¹

     John was born circa 1672 at Northampton Co, VA.² He married Mary Johnson circa 1695.¹ John was named as an heir on 2 November 1734 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Esther Saunders named Nicholas & John Williams in her will and her son Richard Saunders was to stay with Nicholas Williams until he was 20. In her last will made 6 May 1737 her son Richard had evidently come to age and Nicholas & John Williams were not mentioned.² John died before 24 May 1737 at Sussex Co, DE.¹

     Henry was born circa 1674. He married Margaret (-----) circa 1700.¹ Henry died before 10 November 1724 at Sussex Co, DE.¹

     Francis was born circa 1676. Francis died before 1728 at Sussex Co, DE.¹

     Nicholas was born circa 1678 at Northampton Co, VA.² He married Mary (-----) circa 1700.¹ Nicholas was named as an heir on 2 November 1734 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Esther Saunders named Nicholas & John Williams in her will and her son Richard Saunders was to stay with Nicholas Williams until he was 20. In her last will made 6 May 1737 her son Richard had evidently come to age and Nicholas & John Williams were not mentioned.² Nicholas died before 5 May 1757 at Sussex Co, DE.¹

     Comfort was born circa 1682. She married (-----) Molleston circa 1700.¹

     (-----) was born circa 1680. He married Comfort (18) Williams, daughter of Francis (6) Williams and Jane (-----), circa 1700.¹

     Mary was born circa 1675. She married John (13) Williams, son of Francis (6) Williams and Jane (-----), circa 1695.¹ Mary died before 10 December 1740 at Sussex Co, DE.¹
