     Elizabeth was born in April 1636 at Northampton Co, VA.² Elizabeth Bibby was under the care of George Travellor and his widow Alice during her minority. On 14 May 1643 Travellor filed an accounting of the cattle he had received Feb 1636/7 with Elizabeth Bibby being about 10 months old.² She married George Freshwater Sr. circa 1654.² Elizabeth (3) Bibby died before 19 March 1687 at Northampton Co, VA.      William Bibby arived in the Swan in 1621 and in the census of 1623/4 was listed as a resident on the Eastern Shore. In the muster, 1624/5, he was shown as aged 22 and in a deposition in a boundary dispute in Oct 1633 stated he was aged 33 years or thereabouts, and in another deposition in March 1634/5 relating events while he was engaged in clearing a thicket on his land, he stated he was age 35 or thereabouts. His patent for 400 acres on the south side of King's Creek, on the Bay Side southwest of the present town of Cheriton, and running toward Old Plantation Creek, was issued 24 Jun 1636, claimed for the importation of himself, his wife Mary (-----), and six other persons.      Mark was born circa 1688 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Ann Smaw, daughter of John Smaw I and Sarah Marshman, circa 1710 at Northampton Co, VA. Either Ann Smaw or her sister Sarah Smaw married Mark Freshwater, as he was named an hier in her father John Smaw's estate settlement.³ Mark was named in his father's will on 26 October 1717 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Mark Freshwater in the will of George Freshwater, wife Elizabeth.² Mark was named as an heir on 14 January 1728/29 at Northampton Co, VA. In obedience to an order of the Court of N'hamp Co dated 14 Jan 1728, we the subscribers have appraised & divided the estate of John Smaw dec'd as under. Mark Freshwater Part (no mention of a wife) - various household items, farm animals & 1 old Bible, total value: £27.3.8. Andrew Smaw Part - various household items, farm animals, etc., total value: £27.3.7. Henry Smaw Part - various household items, farm animals & 1 old Bible, total value: £27.3.8. He was shown as a son Mark Freshwater in the will of Elizabeth Freshwater.⁴ He married Elizabeth (-----) before April 1734 at Northampton Co, VA.⁵ He married Elishe Jacob, daughter of John Jacob and Mary (-----), circa 1755 at Northampton Co, VA.⁵ Mark (20) Freshwater sold land on 13 April 1756 at Northampton Co, VA. Mark Freshwater & wife Elishe of N'hamp Co sell to John Smaw of N'hamp Co for 6 pound 10 shillings the one third part of a tract of land containing 100 acres, which is the said Elishe's right of dower, bounded westerly by land of Littleton Eyre, which he purchased of William Jacob, southerly by Littleton Wilkins, easterly by Kendall Harmanson dec'd, and northerly by George Kendall dec'd, which land was devised to John Smaw by Alexander Smaw his dec'd father's last will & testament, recorded in N'hamp Co. Witt: None.⁶ Mark died before 9 February 1762 at Northampton Co, VA.^5,7

     Matthew was born circa 1690 at Northampton Co, VA. Matthew was named in his father's will on 26 October 1717 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Mathews Freshwater in the will of George Freshwater, wife Elizabeth.² He married Hannah Baker, daughter of John Baker and Margaret (-----), circa 1725 at Northampton Co, VA.³ Matthew was named in his mother's will on 14 August 1733 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son Matthew Freshwater in the will of Elizabeth Freshwater.⁴ Matthew died before 10 September 1745 at Northampton Co, VA.³

     Culpepper was born circa 1701 at Northampton Co, VA.² He married Elishe (28) Freshwater, daughter of William (7) Freshwater and Esther Griffith, circa 1720 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Culpepper was named in his father-in-law's will on 19 March 1722 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son-in-law Culpeper Pigot in the will of William Freshwater.³ He married Sarah (-----) circa 1740.⁴ Culpepper died before 14 July 1752 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this data that administration on his estate was granted to his widow Sarah..^4,5

     Ralph was born on 23 August 1665 at Northampton Co, VA.^1,2 Ralph was named in his father's will on 27 March 1684 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son Ralph Pigot in the will of Capt. Francis Pigot, Gent. He was evidently of age, as all the other children except Ralph were shown as under age and Ralph was to have charge of his sister Elizabeth (under 16) until she married.² He married Ann (29) Hunt, daughter of Capt. Thomas Hunt and Anne (7) Wilkins, circa 1690 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ He was a justice of N'hamp County in 1702 and owned 1368 acres in 1704.¹ Ralph died before 28 March 1705 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that that his widow petitioned for administration on his estate..¹

     Ann was born circa 1672 at Northampton Co, VA. As of circa 1690,her married name was Pigott.² She married Ralph Pigott, son of Capt. Francis Pigott Gent. and Frances (6) Robins, circa 1690 at Northampton Co, VA.² She made a will on 20 December 1739 at Northampton Co, VA.² Ann died before 13 May 1740 at Northampton Co, VA.²

     Mary was born circa 1640.

     John was born in 1606 at England.¹ John Culpeper, first cousin of the first Lord Culpeper, was a merchant and part-owner of the ship Thomas and John, trading with Virginia in 1633.¹ He married Mary (-----) circa 1670.² In the fall of 1670 the two Eastern Shore counties were reunited for a few years and John Culpeper soon received the appointment of clerk for the whole peninsula, perhaps through his relationship to the family of the Governor's wife. Gov. Sir William Berkeley married Frances Culpeper, of the noble English family of that name.¹ John Culpeper died before 28 July 1675 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that the death of John Culpeper was noted and referred to Mary Culpeper his relict and admtrx, who married John Michael. Whitelaw shows he died on the Eastern Shore in 1674.^3,1

     Sarah was born circa 1700. She married Culpepper (99) Pigott, son of Ralph Pigott and Ann (29) Hunt, circa 1740.¹ Sarah was named as administrator of an estate on 14 July 1752 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Culpepper Pigot was granted to Sarah Pigot, widow of the dec'd.²

     John was born circa 1665. He married Mary (10) Freshwater, daughter of George Freshwater Sr. and Elizabeth (3) Bibby, circa 1685 at Northampton Co, VA.^1,2 John Hawkins was named as the executor of a will on 19 March 1687 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that George Freshwater Sr. named my trusty sons William Freshwater and John Hawkins (son-in-law) Excutors to his will.²

     Grithing was born circa 1686 at Northampton Co, VA.² Grithing was named in his grandfather's will on 19 March 1687 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my grandson Grithing Hawkins in the will of George Freshwater Sr.²

     John was born circa 1716 at Northampton Co, VA. John was named in his father's will on 2 June 1739 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son John in the will of George Freshwater.² John died before 10 June 1752 at Northampton Co, VA.³

     Elizabeth was born circa 1718 at Northampton Co, VA. As of circa 1737,her married name was Mills.^2,3 She married Jacob Mills circa 1737 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 Elizabeth was named in her father's will on 2 June 1739 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Eilzabeth Mills in the will of George Freshwater. He also name a son-in-law Jacob Mills and grandson John Mills.³

     Mark was born circa 1720 at Northampton Co, VA. Mark was named in his father's will on 2 June 1739 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son Mark in the will of George Freshwater.² Mark Freshwater chose Jacob Mills as his guardian on 18 Nov 1739 and was referred to as being of age on 10 Aug 1742.¹

     Jacob was born circa 1700 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Elizabeth (32) Freshwater, daughter of George (18) Freshwater, circa 1737 at Northampton Co, VA.^1,2 Jacob Mills was named as the executor of a will on 2 June 1739 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that son John Freshwater and son-in-law Jacob Mills were named Excutors in the will of George Freshwater.² Mark Freshwater chose Jacob Mills as his guardian on 18 Nov 1739 in N'hamp County.³

     John was born circa 1738 at Northampton Co, VA.² John was named in his grandfather's will on 2 June 1739 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my grandson John Mills in the will of George Freshwater. He also name a son-in-law Jacob Mills and a daughter Elizabeth Mills.²

     William was born circa 1712 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Sisley Moore, daughter of Thomas Moore III and Frances Freshwater, in October 1751 at Northampton Co, VA.^1,2

     Sisley Moore was born circa 1728 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Sisley was named in her father's will on 11 February 1736/37 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Lesly (under age) in the will of Thomas Moor, planter, wife Frances.¹ As of October 1751,her married name was Freshwater.³ She married William (34) Freshwater, son of Thomas (19) Freshwater and Sarah (-----), in October 1751 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4

     Elizabeth was born circa 1694. She married John (109) Waterson, son of William (31) Waterson and Elizabeth (-----), circa 1710. She married Mark (20) Freshwater, son of George (6) Freshwater and Elizabeth Mears, before April 1734 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     John was born circa 1696 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Elizabeth (-----) circa 1710. He made a will on 18 November 1733 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 John died before 12 February 1733/34 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3

     Elishe was born circa 1702 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ As of circa 1718,her married name was Smaw.² She married Andrew Smaw III, son of John Smaw I and Sarah Marshman, circa 1718.² Elishe was named in her father's will on 8 February 1728/29 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Elisha Smaw in the will of John Jacob, wife Mary.¹ Elishe was named in her husband's will on 25 March 1735 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Elishe in the will of Andrew Smaw, planter, wife Elishe.³ As of circa 1736,her married name was Nelson.² She married John Nelson circa 1736.² Elishe was named as administrator of an estate on 10 April 1753 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of John Nelson was granted to Elishe Nelson.⁴ As of circa 1755,her married name was Freshwater.² She married Mark (20) Freshwater, son of George (6) Freshwater and Elizabeth Mears, circa 1755 at Northampton Co, VA.² Elishe was named in her husband's will on 7 February 1761 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife and named Extr in the will of Mark Freshwater and shown as Elishe Freshwater at probate.⁵ Elishe made a will on 15 February 1769 at Northampton Co, VA. To my son Southy Nelson. To dau. Mary Freshwater. Clothes to be div. by two daus. Mary Freshwater and Elizabeth Nelson. My son John Nelson to be for himself (i.e., to act for himself) immediately after my death. To my three sons John, Andrew, and Henry Smaw. Negro man Ned to be sold. Resid. legatees my four children Mary Freshwater, Southy, Elizabeth, and John Nelson. Son Southy extr. Witt: Thomas Widgeon, William Willett, Peter Warren.⁶ Elishe died before 8 May 1770 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,6

     Andrew was born circa 1668 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Andrew was named as an heir on 29 October 1685 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that William Kendall Sr., merhant, named Andrew, the son of Andrew Small and Anne his wife, and gave him one heifer. He also named a son-in-law Hancock Lee Gent.² Andrew was named in his father's will on 9 August 1687 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Andrew Small, under age 21, in the will of Andrew Small, wife Ann.¹ He inherited land in 1688 at tract N45, Chesapeake, N'hamp Co, VA. In 1684 William Andrews sold the final 100 acres of tract N45, which is between Eastville and Chertion on the Sea Side of the highway, to Andrew Smaw. In 1688 Smaw, wife Ann, left to sons John and Andrew but the former died without issue. In 1735 Andrew Smaw left the 100 acres to wife Elishe and then to a son John under entail. (NOTE: It was probably John's son Andrew who left the 100 aces to wife Elishe, not the elder brother Andrew.).³ Andrew was named as an heir on 25 January 1688/89 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Andrew Smaw and given a mare running in Church Neck in the will of John Hutchinson, wife Ann. He also gave John Smaw one shirt and Andrew Smaw all the rest of my clothes. (NOTE: Evidently Ann was their mother by her earlier marriage to Andrew Smaw.).⁴

     John was born circa 1700. He married Elishe Jacob, daughter of John Jacob and Mary (-----), circa 1736.¹ John Nelson died before 10 April 1753 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of John Nelson was granted to Elishe Nelson.²

     Jacob was born circa 1735 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Mary Nelson, daughter of John Nelson and Elishe Jacob, on 24 March 1763 at Northampton Co, VA. Jacob Freshwater married Mary Nelson, daughter of his step-mother, Elishe who had married John Nelson..²

     Benjamin was born circa 1736 at Northampton Co, VA. Benjamin died before 15 May 1765 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Joseph was born circa 1738 at Northampton Co, VA. Joseph died before 14 June 1786 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Sarah was born circa 1734 at Northampton Co, VA. As of 31 August 1748,her married name was Nottingham.^2,3 She married Isaac Nottingham, son of Capt. Robert Nottingham, 31 Aug 1748 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 Sarah died before 23 November 1763 at Northampton Co, VA.²

     Hannah was born circa 1700. She married Matthew (21) Freshwater, son of George (6) Freshwater and Elizabeth Mears, circa 1725 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ She married Stephen(?) Whitehead circa 1750.¹ Hannah died before 8 April 1777 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     John was born circa 1665. He married Margaret (-----) circa 1690.

     Margaret was born circa 1670. She married John Baker circa 1690.

     Stephen(?) was born circa 1690. He married Hannah Baker, daughter of John Baker and Margaret (-----), circa 1750.¹

     Francis was born circa 1695 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Sarah (22 ) Freshwater, daughter of George (6) Freshwater and Elizabeth Mears, circa 1718 at Northampton Co, VA.³ Francis was named in his father's will on 13 March 1720/21 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son Francis in the will of Francis Costin, wife Isabell. He was given 50 acres bought of John Moor and for want of heirs to his son Jacob (under 18).⁴ He married Agnes Somers, daughter of Thomas Somers and Ann (-----), circa 1735 at Northampton Co, VA. According to Whitelaw in 1750 Francis Costin (wife Agnes) left 110 acres in tract N9 on the bayside to his son Francis. Whitelaw assumed that his wife had been the former Agnes Somers and title to the land had come to him through her and that she had gotten it by the 1703 will of Daniel Neech left his balance of 110 acres to wife Margaret, but if she did not make disposition it was to go to Thomas and Agnes Somers. Whitelaw also conjectured that this Agnes then married Azariah Scott, as 8 years later the death of Costin the Scotts sold the same land to John Wilson. Then in tracing the owership of tract N10 Whitelaw found evidence confirming the previous assumptoin that Francis Costin had married the widow Agnes Somers and that she late married Azariah Scot of tract N9 was found in a deed from the Scotts to Matthew Costin for her dower interest in the land left to him by Francis Costin. (NOTE: One concern here is that the Agnes Somers mentioned in the will of Daniel Neech was born circa 1680 and therefore would have been somewhat older then either Francis Costin or Azariah Scott, but it does support the owership of the land. Perhaps her brother (not husband) Thomas Somers, who died intestate in 1728, had a daughter Agnes who inherited the land and married Costin and Scott.).^5,6 Francis made a will on 27 May 1750 at Northampton Co, VA. To my beloved wife Agnes the use and profits of my plantation whereon I now dwell for 4 years and then to my son Matthew. To my son Abraham the other part of my land adjoining to Matthew. To my son Francis 110 A. on the bayside. To son Matthew n. girl Mary. To son Abraham n. boy Joseph. To son Francis (not of lawful age) n. wench Cate. To my dau. Agnes n. girl Dilla. To wife, workhorse "Toppin" and £10, and n. man Ned until she is settled on her own land. Wife and my son Matthew extrs. Witt: William East, Jacob 'X' Mills, Margaret 'X' Tennon.⁵ He died before 10 July 1750 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated.⁵
