John (161) Savage V sold land in 1783 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that John and Margaret Savage sold all of his land here as 915 acres, which would have been the 700 acres left by Capt. John Savage in 1678, the 100 acres released by Thomas Savage in 1737, and some odd parcels purchased from adjacent owners.³ John died on 31 July 1792 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

Savage, late of the city of Baltimore, departed this life intestate, seized of three lots of land in the county of Accomack, leaving Sally Savage his widow, and Margaret Savage an infant daughter. That the said three lots of land, being detached from each other, without houses or ----- thereon ------ that the said Severn was at the time of his death indebted on bonds to a considerable amount, and having no personal estate, the claims on these lands remain as a lien on the said lands; and the said Sally Savage having petitioned the Legislature that an act may pass authorizing a sale of the said lots for the payment of the debts of the said Severn E. Savage, and for the support and maintenance of herself and her infant daughter. Be it enacted that Major S. Pitts, Thomas R. Joynes and William Gilliett shall be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered, upon such terms, and in such manner, as the court of the county of Accomack, if it shall be of opinion, upon examination that the interest of the said infant daughter of the said Severn E. Savage will be promoted thereby, shall order and direct to make sale of the said three lots of land, or such part thereof as the said county court of Accomack shall order and direct, whereof the said Severn E. Savage died seized, and convey the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof in fee simple. And the said commissioners, or any two of them, are hereby authorized to ----- the proceeds of the sales of the said lands, or such part thereof as may be necessary, towards the payment of debts remaining due from the estate of the said descendant, and which are a legal or equitable lien on said lands; and the balance of the said proceeds, if any, they shall account for and pay to the widow such part thereof as the said county court of Accomack shall adjudge and decree equitable, not exceeding one-ninth(?), and the balance to the guardian of the said infant daughter of the said Severn E. Savage: Provided, if the said infant daughter should die under the age of twenty-one years, the part of such proceeds allotted to her shall pass and descend as the ---- ---- ---, whereof the said Severn E. And also provided, that no sale be directed by the said county court of Accomack, until a summons shall have issued and been served upon the infant daughter of the said Severn E. Savage and her guardian, and also upon Lovey Savage, widow of Charles Savage, deceased, and other creditors of the said Severn E. Savage, to show cause, if any they choose, against such sale.      Betsey was born on 1 April 1775 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ As of 23 September 1800,her married name was Savage.² She married Severn Savage, son of William Savage and Rosey (-----), 23 Sep 1800 (bond) at Northampton Co, VA. Lewis Nolen was the security on the M.L.B. of Severn Savage and Betsey Trower. They were married on 25 Sep 1800.^1,3 Betsey Trower died on 19 September 1853 at Northampton Co, VA, at age 78.¹

     Charles was born circa 1783 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Lovey Smith on 1 January 1807 at Accomack Co, VA.^1,2 Charles died before 25 March 1811.¹ He was named in a land cause on 10 February 1818 at Richmond, VA. Severn E. Savage, late of the city of Baltimore, departed this life intestate, seized of three lots of land in the county of Accomack, leaving Sally Savage his widow, and Margaret Savage an infant daughter. That the said three lots of land, being detached from each other, without houses or ----- thereon ------ that the said Severn was at the time of his death indebted on bonds to a considerable amount, and having no personal estate, the claims on these lands remain as a lien on the said lands; and the said Sally Savage having petitioned the Legislature that an act may pass authorizing a sale of the said lots for the payment of the debts of the said Severn E. Savage, and for the support and maintenance of herself and her infant daughter. Be it enacted that Major S. Pitts, Thomas R. Joynes and William Gilliett shall be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered, upon such terms, and in such manner, as the court of the county of Accomack, if it shall be of opinion, upon examination that the interest of the said infant daughter of the said Severn E. Savage will be promoted thereby, shall order and direct to make sale of the said three lots of land, or such part thereof as the said county court of Accomack shall order and direct, whereof the said Severn E. Savage died seized, and convey the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof in fee simple. And the said commissioners, or any two of them, are hereby authorized to ----- the proceeds of the sales of the said lands, or such part thereof as may be necessary, towards the payment of debts remaining due from the estate of the said descendant, and which are a legal or equitable lien on said lands; and the balance of the said proceeds, if any, they shall account for and pay to the widow such part thereof as the said county court of Accomack shall adjudge and decree equitable, not exceeding one-ninth(?), and the balance to the guardian of the said infant daughter of the said Severn E. Savage: Provided, if the said infant daughter should die under the age of twenty-one years, the part of such proceeds allotted to her shall pass and descend as the ---- ---- ---, whereof the said Severn E. Savage died seized, would have descended(?) if this act had never passed. And also provided, that no sale be directed by the said county court of Accomack, until a summons shall have issued and been served upon the infant daughter of the said Severn E. Savage and her guardian, and also upon Lovey Savage, widow of Charles Savage, deceased, and other creditors of the said Severn E. Savage, to show cause, if any they choose, against such sale. This act shall be in force from the passage thereof.      Ann was born circa 1789 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ She married Rev. William Murray Stone, son of William (320) Stone, on 23 March 1809.¹ Ann died on 9 April 1821.¹

     Rev. William Murray Stone was a graduate of Washington College, 1799, ordained deacon, 1802, and priest, 1803, and for many years a clergyman in Somerset County, MD, third Episcopal Bishop of Maryland, 1830-38. See Graves family for more information. His common name was William. William was born on 1 June 1779 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ He married Ann (93G) Savage, daughter of Maj. John (161) Savage V and Margaret (50) Waters, on 23 March 1809.¹ William died on 26 February 1838 at age 58.¹

     William was born circa 1750.

     William was born circa 1772 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Susannah (541) Smith, daughter of Isaac (201) Smith II and Elizabeth Custis (405) Teackle, on 12 May 1795 at Northampton Co, VA.^1,2 William made a will on 27 June 1811 at Northampton Co, VA. I give and devise unto my beloved wife Susanna Savage forever ten slaves her choice & all that I die possessed of. If my said wife choose to continue at Cherry Grove after the year in which I may die my will is that she shall have the house & other improvements where I now live & so much of the land adjoining thereto as may choose until my daughter Mary Ann Savage arrives to the age of twenty one years. If my wife should marry before my daughter Mary arrives to age of twenty one years the my wife's interest or right in Cherry Grove before devised to cease. I also will and direct that all the money which may belong to me in the mercantile concerns of William Scott and William Bain & Co., be equally divided between my said wife and daughter. If my said wife & acting executor or executors shall think it better for my daughter that the part of my land called Hill Fields be sold for payment of my debts, I do for this purpose hereby devise to my acting executor or executors the said Hill Fields containing by estimation one hundred and fifty acres. I do constitute & appoint my beloved wife Susanna and my particular friends George Parker and John Eyre Esquire, executors and guardians to my daughter Mary Ann. Signed, William Burton Savage.      Susannah was born on 8 November 1770 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,1 As of 12 May 1795,her married name was Savage.^3,2 She married William 'Billy' Burton (163) Savage, son of Col. Littleton (74) Savage and Margaret (60) Burton, on 12 May 1795 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,2 Susannah was named in her husband's will on 27 June 1811 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my wife Susanna Savage in the will of William Burton Savage.⁴ She married Judge George (214) Parker VI, son of George (179) Parker V and Adah (92) Bagwell, on 19 May 1813 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as George Parker and she was shown as Susan Savage, widow of Wm. B. Savage and daughter of Isaac & Elizabeth Smith..^1,2 Susannah was living in 1833 at Baltimore, MD. Susannah was living as a widow in 1833 in Baltimore, MD..³ Susannah made a will on 27 February 1843 at Northampton Co, VA. I Susan Parker, formerly of the County of Northampton, now of the City of Baltimore. To my relative Mrs. Elizabeth Seaman of Norfolk. To Mrs. Leah Wilson of Northampton County. To my brother Isaac, I forgive and release all debts. I give and bequeath to each of my sisters; Marian Gilmor and Ann Donnell one fifth part of all the residue of my property. My nephew Robert Gilmor. Nephews John S. Donnell, James S. Donnell and William Donnell. Nephews Frances H. Smith and William G. Smith. It is further my will and desire that the rest and residue of my estate be divided among such of my nephews and nieces the children of my brother Isaac and of my deceased brother Charles and sisters Margaret and Sally. My nephew Peter S. Bowdoin is indebted to me in the sum of fourteen hundred dollars and Elias C. Buckner the husband of my niece is indebted to me in the sum of one thousand dollars.      Sarah was born on 22 September 1764 at Northampton Co, VA.² She married William Stith, son of Griffin Stith and Mary Blaikley, circa 1785 at Northampton Co, VA. As of 19 May 1795,her married name was Savage.^3,4 She married George (75) Savage, son of Maj. John (32) Savage III and Mary (179) Godwin, on 19 May 1795 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 Sarah was named in her husband's will on 10 April 1809 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Sarah Savage in the will of George Savage.⁵ Sarah made a will on 27 January 1823 at Accomack Co, VA. To daughter Mary E. Upshur $1,000 being the principal of a debt due me by her late husband John B. Upshur upon several bonds. To sons Littleton Savage & George Savage & daughter Margaret Ann Saltonstall(?) $300 each. To daughter Mary E. Upshur the remainder after debts paid. Having advanced my son Drury Stith as much as I consider a full share, I have no doubt he will be satisfied. Daughter Mary E. Upshur Extr. with no security required. Witt: Severn E. Parker & William S. Upshur.⁶ She died before 28 November 1826 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that her will was probated.⁶

She was shown as daughter Elizabeth Savage in the will of George Savage, wife Sarah.² She died before 10 December 1832 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Elizabeth Savage was granted to Littleton S. Savage.³

     Margaret was born circa 1796 at Northampton Co, VA. Margaret was named in her father's will on 10 April 1809 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Margaret Anne Savage (under age) in the will of George Savage, wife Sarah.² Margaret was named in her mother's will on 27 January 1823 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Sally Savage named children Mary E. Upshur, Littleton Savage, George Savage, Margaret Ann Saltonstall(?) & Drury Stith in her will.³

     George was born circa 1798 at Northampton Co, VA. George was named in his father's will on 10 April 1809 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son George Savage (under age) in the will of George Savage, wife Sarah.² George was living in 1819 at Northampton Co, VA. George was of age by 1819..¹ George was named in his mother's will on 27 January 1823 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Sally Savage named children Mary E. Upshur, Littleton Savage, George Savage, Margaret Ann Saltonstall(?) & Drury Stith in her will.³

     Littleton was born circa 1800 at Northampton Co, VA. Littleton was named in his father's will on 10 April 1809 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Littleton Savage (under age) in the will of George Savage, wife Sarah.² Littleton was named in his mother's will on 27 January 1823 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Sally Savage named children Mary E. Upshur, Littleton Savage, George Savage, Margaret Ann Saltonstall(?) & Drury Stith in her will.³ Littleton was named as administrator of an estate on 10 December 1832 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Elizabeth Savage was granted to Littleton S. Savage.¹

     Mary was born circa 1740 at Northampton Co, VA. She married Savage (77) Cowdrey, son of Thomas Cowdrey and Esther (37) Savage, on 15 June 1758 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     His common name was Henry. Henry was born circa 1740.

     Thomas was born circa 1776 at Northampton Co, VA. Thomas died before 8 February 1802 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Susanna was born circa 1765. She married Col. Southy (80) Spady, son of Thomas Spady and Sarah (44) Jones, on 21 January 1783 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Susanna died before 10 January 1786.¹

     Mary was born circa 1765. She married Col. Southy (80) Spady, son of Thomas Spady and Sarah (44) Jones, on 10 January 1786 at Northampton Co, VA.³ Mary died before 28 May 1790.³

     Ann was born circa 1775 at Northampton Co, VA. As of 28 May 1790,her married name was Spady.^3,4 She married Col. Southy (80) Spady, son of Thomas Spady and Sarah (44) Jones, on 28 May 1790 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 Ann was named in her father's will on 31 January 1804 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Nancy Spady in the will of Robert Trower, wife Nelly.¹ Ann died on 7 June 1824 at Northampton Co, VA.³

     John was born on 11 December 1788 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ John died on 12 May 1826 at Northampton Co, VA, at age 37.¹

     Mary was born on 18 December 1792 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ She married John Wilkins Jr. on 3 July 1810 at Northampton Co, VA. Levin Nottingham was the security on the M.L.B. of John Wilkins Jr. and Mary Spady, daughter of Southy Spady who gave consent..^1,2 Mary died on 26 November 1827 at age 34.¹

     John was born circa 1785 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Mary (172) Spady, daughter of Col. Southy (80) Spady and Ann 'Nancy' Trower, on 3 July 1810 at Northampton Co, VA.      Rosanna was born circa 1800 at Northampton Co, VA. She married Southy (174) Spady, son of Col. Southy (80) Spady and Ann 'Nancy' Trower, on 23 May 1822 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ She married Elijah Costin on 30 October 1830 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Elijah was born circa 1800 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Rosanna Trower on 30 October 1830 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Margaret was born on 4 September 1801 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ She married James H. Costin, son of William Costin Sr. and Lucretia Dixon, on 12 November 1822 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Margaret died on 3 December 1859 at age 58.¹
