John Melson

     John was born circa 1646 at England.1 He was presented for fornication on 17 May 1669 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Jno. Mellison, servant to Jno. Renny.2 He married Elizabeth Painter on 4 April 1672 at Somerset Co, MD.3 John Melson was named as a headright on 12 June 1672 at Somerset Co, MD. It was on this date that John Reny of Somerset County came and proved his right in 300 acres of land to him for transporting John Reny and Mary Reny my wife, John Melson, Elizabeth Melson, Henry Allen & Warren Day to this province to inhabit Somerset County in the Province of Maryland planter for and inconsideration to me in hand paid & do assign sell and set over and by these presents have sold and made over to John Baker of St. Marys County all my right, title and interest in these rights following John Reny, Mary Reny, John Melson, Elizabeth Melson, Henry Allen and Warren Day, which I did transport into this Province to inhabit. Witt: John Betts & Thos Taylor (MD Archieves Land Patents 1670-1673, Liber 16, Folio 530).1 He bought land on 4 August 1673 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John Melson purchased land from Jeremiah Carey.4 He was on the tax list between 1675 and 1687 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as John Melson with 1 tithable.5 On 16 Dec 1679 in Accomack Court John Melson produced a certificate signed by Maj. Charles Scarburgh stating that Melson captured Mr. William Anderson's servant named Jannet Barry, who at the time was 40 miles away from her master's house. After making oath to the same, Melson was granted a certificate to the next assembly.6 On 3 Jan 1682/83 in Accomack Court John Melloy sued Robert Edge for 600 lbs tobacco, but Edge failed to appear. Then on 3 Jul 1683 John Mellson sued Robert Edge but filed no petition: a nonsuit was granted against Melson, with court cost.7,8 On 2 Jun 1683 in Accomack Court John Melson was to be paid 1200 lbs tobacco for a child that was put to him to be nursed.9 On 27 Mar 1684 in Accomack Court Mr. John Parker sued John Mellson for 3000lbs tobacco in damages. The case was continued to the next court because there was no jury avaliable.10 On 6 Aug 1684 in Accomack Court John Mellson petitioned for payment for himself and his wife, who both attended court for two days, being summoned as witnesses by Samuel Fittiman against William Anderson. Ordered that Fittiman pay the 160 lbs tobacco and court charges.11 200 acres called The Gore surveyed by John Melson, Nanticoke Hundred, possessed by Robert Watson of Somerset Co (MD Rent Rolls).1 On 16 Nov 1687 in Accomack Court the suit of Mr. Adam Micheal (Attorney: Mr. Holden) against John Mellson was referred to the next court by the consent of both parties.12 John died before 18 September 1694 at Accomack Co, VA.13

Charles Rackcliffe

He married Bridget (-----) circa 1648.1 He married Elizabeth (-----) circa 1650.2 On 30 Mar 1651 Charles Ratliffe was among many who signed an oath to be true and faithful to the Commonwealth of England as it is now established without King or House of Lords.3 Charles Rackcliffe died before 18 December 1665 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Charles Rackliff was granted to Elizabeth Rackliff, widow of Charles.4 He patented land on 9 November 1666 at Somerset Co, MD. It was on this date that Charles Ratcliffe was granted 1,200 acres south of the Pocomoke River, within the area of today's Somerset Co, MD, before the MD-VA boundary line was marked in 1668. (NOTE: He probably had applied for the land grant before his death and by the time it had been awarded he had died intestate.).5

It was on this date that administration on the estate of Richard Bloxom was granted to Nicholas Bloxom with William Bloxom securities.4 He bought land in 1755 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Nicholas Bloxom bought 100 acres from William and Naomi Bloxom who sold his father William Bloxom's part of tract A126. In 1770 Nicholas Bloxom (wife Catharine) left to his son William and in 1789 he (wife Mary) left it to his son Richard.5 He married Catherine Richardson (Richardson?) circa 1762 at Accomack Co, VA.6 Nicholas made a will on 3 May 1770 at Accomack Co, VA. To son William Bloxom 100 acres where he now lives, provided he pay all demands which my cousin Richard Bloxom has against my estate, & should he refuse my son Abbott Bloxom to have the said land. Wife Catharine Bloxom plantation where I live containing 80 acres during her life or widow then to my son William. Daughter Leah Bloxom. Bal. of estate to wife during her widow then to be divided between all my children except my son William. Wife & son William Exrs. Witt: Thomas Bloxom, Margaret Hinman.7 He died before 30 October 1770 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated.7
