The slaves desecnded to the said Frances and her two sisters, Rachel and Joanna, infants under age 21. The three daughters were coheirs subject to the dowwer of their mother, Susanna. The said Susanna vested herself of the slaves as administrix of the estate and guardian of the three daughters. She soon married John Ellegood. They, the said Susanna and John kept possession of the two slaves and all of the profits from there on. Susanna died in 1751. Nathan Wilkins, brother to the above Jonathan and Uncle to Frances, Rachel & Jonna died in 1747 (adm 8 Mar 1747) unmarried. His sundry slaves (Mary & Dinah, woman & a girl) descended to the three Wilkins sisters. The said John Ellegood, after the death of his wife Susanna, held possession of all the slaves as guardian. However, Frances, after the death of her mother, chose John Smaw as her guardian. Since then she has frequently applied to her sisters, Rachel and Joanna for a partition of the slaves and their increase now living: Leah, Jack, Daniel, Esther, Ben and ... (paper torn). This petition asks the Court to order a division. Filed 15 May 1754 & the partition was ordered.6

William was born circa 1740 at Northampton Co, VA.1,3 William was named as an heir on 7 May 1751 at Northampton Co, VA. In his will of this date William Stott gave Susanna Floyd one shilling and William Floyd his musket.4 William was named in his father's will on 31 January 1752 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my son William (under age) in the will of Matthew Floyd Jr., wife Susanna dec'd. According to Whitelaw, he was given 275 acre of tract N21, which is east of the upper part of Old Plantation Creek. Then in 1785 William Floyd (wife Esther) left to son John K. Floyd. In 1806 John K. Floyd sold it to a William Floyd.2,5 He sold land in 1757 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that that Alexander Kemp sold 30 acres to John Robins, and William Floyd, as heir to his mother Susanna, confirmed to Robins.3 William was named in his uncle's will on 27 November 1759 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my nephew William Floyd in the will of James Floyd. He was given my young black mare, saddle and bridle.6 He married Esther L. (138C) Kendall, daughter of John Kendall and Elizabeth (51) Harmanson, on 14 April 1772 at Northampton Co, VA.1,7 William (128) Floyd bought land in 1773 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that the executors of John Walter sold 294 acres to William Floyd; it being the 240 acres of inherited land and the 54 acres he had bought back from Dunton. In 1785 William Floyd (wife Esther) had added to his holdings and he now left a 400-acres plantation to his sons William and Matthew. In 1806 William and Frances Floyd deeded a half-interest to John K. Floyd; presumably Matthew had died intestate because later in the year the land was surveyed for a division of 386¼ acres between John K. Floyd and the heirs of Matthew Floyd. On this tract is N65A and the survey indicated a substantial two-story brick-end house at this location. It may have been built by the first William Floyd, possibly even dating from the period of Walter ownership, and it may have been on the site of the original Walter home, as it is on the Hudson patent which he acquired before his own. The house of the survey has passed out of existence; the present one is of a much later period and is called Rat Hall.8 He made a will on 1 February 1785 at Hungars Parish, N'hamp Co, VA.1,9,5 William died before 8 November 1785 at Northampton Co, VA.1,9

Richard was born circa 1600 at England. Richard Smith came to Virginia in the London Merchant in March 1619/20. He was living at Pasbehaighs, James City, at the time of the census of 1623/4 and the muster of 1624/5. Soon, however, he moved to the Eastern Shore, where he had been granted, 18 Nov 1618, 200 acres on Occahannock Creek, and received a certificate for 100 acres in Accawmack County, 23 Sep 1639. The area where he resided became Northampton County and in his will, proved 31 Jan 1659/60, he mentioned 500 acres which he devised to his daughter "Alse" Smith and 450 acres left to his daughter Susan Smith. Since he devised to his daughter Alice by her maiden surname, Smith, and also referred to Nathaniel Bradford as his son-in-law (then meaning step-son), it seems clear Richard Smith had two wives, both dead when he wrote his will, one of whom was the mother of Alice and probably of Susan, and one who was a widow Bradford, mother of Nathaniel Bradford. Susan Smith was left the Linen which was her mother's.1 He married (-----) (-----) circa 1640.
