He married Elizabeth 'Betty' Harmanson (69) Stringer, daughter of Jacob Stringer and Elishe (38) Harmanson, circa 1730 at Northampton Co, VA.2 Hezekiah witnessed a will on 26 November 1733 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas Marshall, Hezekiah Tilney and Richard Jacob witnessed the will of Luke Johnson.3 Hezekiah was named as an appraiser of an estate on 13 July 1736 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that William Smith, Holloway Bunting, Isaac Smith and Hezakiah Tilney were named to appraise the estate of Levin Smith.4 Hezekiah was named in his father's will on 14 May 1737 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Hezekiah and given my 150 acre plantation whereon he now dwells on the south side of Mud?y Branch, all my shoemaker's tools and my Negro man Sharp in the will of John Tilney.1 Hezekiah was named in his father-in-law's will on 26 July 1737 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son-in-law Hezekiah Tilney in the will of Jacob Stringer, wife Elisha. He also named a daughter Betty Harmanson Tilney.5 He inherited land in 1738 at tract N49, NE of Eastville, Northampton Co, VA. Jacob Stringer, wife Elishe, left land in this tract to his daughter Betty Harmanson Tilney the wife of Hezekiah. The Tilneys moved to Worcester County, MD, without a local sale of this property, which they may have sold by a General Court deed as a William White was the next owner or record.6 He bought land in 1743 at tract N49, Eastville, Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Digby Seymour and wife Rose sold 168 acres of this tract to Hezekiah Tilney and he and his wife sold the north 84 acres to William Firkettle and 3 years later the south 84 acres to Griffin Stith.7 Hezekiah witnessed a will on 27 January 1745 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Joachim Michael, Hezekiah Tilney, Southy Satchell and Nicholas Campbell witness the will of Robert Nottingham, wife Elisha.8 He bought land on 8 March 1745 at tract Benefield, Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that George Hope of Accomack County, VA and wife Arabella Hope sold 300 acres of this tract to Hezekiah Tilney of Northampton County, VA.9 Hezekiah was named in his mother-in-law's will on 15 March 1744/45 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son-in-law Hezekiah Tilney in the will of Elishe Nottingham, widow. She also named a daughter Elizabeth Harmanson Tilney.10 He bought land on 16 May 1748 at tract South Benefit, Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that John Hampton sold part of this tract to Hezekiah Tilney.11 He bought land on 16 December 1748 at tract Benefield, Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that William Hope and wife Abigail of Accomack County, VA sold 250 acres of this tract to Hezekiah Tilney of Worcester County, MD.9 He sold land on 8 November 1749 at tract South Benefit, Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that Hezekiah Tilney sold 500 acres of this tract to Thomas Purnell.11 He bought land on 8 November 1750 at tract Basing Stoke, Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that Nathaniel Fosque of Accomack County, VA sold to Hezekiah Tilney of Worcester County, MD.12 He bought land on 10 August 1751 at tract Simpleton, Worcester Co, MD. It was on this date that John Outten and wife Atlanta Outten sold 374 aces of this tract to Hezekiah Tilney, except 100 acres that John Outten the elder devised to son Abraham Outten.13 He sold land on 12 November 1753 at tract Basing Stoke, Worcester Co, MD. He was first listed as tithable in 1737, putting his birth at 1718..1 Samuel was named in his father's will on 15 December 1718 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my youngest son who I intended to be called Samuel in the will of Charles Floyd, wife Elizabeth. He left his son Matthew 1/2 my land on Hogg Island, and the other half to my youngest son who I intended to be (called) Samuel..2 In July 1742 it was recorded in N'hamp Co that Samuel Floyd petitions against John Joynes for money owed him (the said Floyd) for building a storehouse for 700 lbs tobacco (174 lbs paid).3 In Oct 1743 it was recorded in N'hamp Co that William Floyd and Elizabeth his wife complain of assault against the said Elizabeth by Samuel Floyd. The said Samuel retorts that he was only defending himself from the said Elizabeth who attacked him first. Judgement for the Dft.4 He married Susan Dixon, daughter of Michael Dixon and Elizabeth (-----), circa 1745.5 Samuel (82) Floyd sold land in 1746 at Hog Island, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Samuel Floyd sold his 139 acres on Hog Island to Charles Floyd.6 He was named in a division of land on 10 July 1750 at Hog Island, N'hamp Co, VA. It was on this date that there was a formal division of 595 acres of Floyd land on Hog Island: 139 acres to Samuel Floyd; 278 acres to Matthew Floyd, Sr., and 178 acres to Berry Floyd. (NOTE: Clagett shows that a share also went to Matthew Jr.).6,5 Samuel was named in his brother's will on 31 January 1752 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my brother Samuel in the will of Matthew Floyd Jr.7 Samuel died before 14 April 1752 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas Respass was named to settle the estate of Samuel Floyd..1,8 He estate was settled on 13 March 1753 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that the inventory of Samuel Floyd was returned to the court by Thomas Respess, his administrator. It shows mares, cows, lambs, turkeys, geese, pigs, two canoes, and various household goods; the total valuation was £48.14.4. The record of the sale shows that a large number of the items were purchased by William, Michael & John Dixon, clearly members of the the family of Samuel's wife.9

     Matthew was born circa 1712 at Northampton Co, VA.4 Matthew was named in his father's will on 15 December 1718 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as a son Matthew in the will of Charles Floyd, wife Elizabeth. He was given 1/2 my land on Hogg Island..2 He was on the list of tithables at Northampton Co, VA, on 24 July 1725. He was shown as Mathew Floyd, a boy above 10 & under 16, as one of John Floyd's tiths. (NOTE: John Floyd was his brother.).4 He married Susanna Satchell, daughter of William Satchell and Susannah (-----), circa 1740.5,6 Matthew (81) Floyd Jr. bought land in 1742 at Old Plantation Creek, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Matthew Floyd Jr. bought 130 acres on Main Bay and in 1745 from William Knight, 125 acres at the head of Old Plantation Creek, a few miles east of Cape Charles.7 He sold land in 1747 at Hog Island, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Matthew Floyd sold 139 acres on Hog Island to Berry Floyd.8 He bought land in 1751 at Old Plantation Cr, N'hamp Co, VA. It was in this year that Matthew Floyd bought 137 1/2 acres of the John Knight Part of tract N21, which is east of the upper part of Old Plantation Creek, from William Tazewell. About this same time Matthew Floyd also bought 125 acres of the Dixon Knight Part of tract N21 from William Knight of North Carolina. Then in 1752 Matthew Floyd left it all as 275 aces to his son William. Then in 1785 William Floyd (wife Esther) left to son John K. Floyd. In 1806 John K. Floyd sold it to a William Floyd.9 He sold land in 1751 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that Matthew Floyd sold 100 acres of tract N41 east of the present seaside road and just south of the eastern end of the Chesapeake crossroad to John Ellegood and it developed that William Satchell had given it to his daughter Susanna who had married Floyd. In 1752 Ellegood resold to Alexander Kemp. In 1757 Kemp sold 30 acres to John Robins, and William Floyd, as heir to his mother Susanna, confirmed to Robins. At the same time Kemp gave the balance to his son John. In 1765 John Kemp sold his 70 acres to John Robins so that it all thus came back to the original owners.6 He was named as the executor of a will on 21 January 1751 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date Matthew Floyd, Thomas Goffigon & William Stockly witnessed the will of Thomas Willett, wife Tabitha. The wife was named Extr but at probate Matthew Floyd Jr. qualified to settle the estate.10 He made a will on 31 January 1752 at Northampton Co, VA.11,3 Matthew died before 11 March 1752 at Northampton Co, VA.11,3

He was shown as a son John Floyd, under 18, in the will of John Floyd, wife Mary. He was given my 100 acre plantation whereon I now live, a set of cooper's tools and carpenter's tools and 1/2 of Prouts Island. Wife Mary and my son John extrs. According to Whitelaw (tract N37) the son John Floyd later died intestate but seems to have been followed by still another John. In 1789 John and Elishe Floyd of Princess Anne County sold to James Floyd. An 1823 survey of the land of the late Captain James Floyd showed 127 1/2 acres.3,4
He married Ann (66) Wilkins, daughter of Thomas (17) Wilkins and Mary Stockley, circa 1722.5 In Sep 1736 Edward Poyner sues John Floyd for 20 bu Indian corn for schooling Floyd's two children for 2 years - 60 bu. 40 bu was credited. Agreed and dismissed. (NOTE: His children Mary and John were of school age at that time.).6 In Oct 1737 it was recorded in N'hamp Co that John Floyd sues Stephen Westcott who with force and arms took on of the said John's sheep from Hog Island.7 John died before 14 November 1738 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this data that administration on the estate of John Floyd was granted to Anne Floyd relict of the dec'd..5,8 In May 1743 it was recorded in N'hamp Co that Berry, Benjamin & Mary Floyd, children of John Floyd (wp 14 Nov 1738) by their next friend Phillip Jacob, shown that the said John was possessed of a Negro woman slave named Bibbo at the time of his death. The slave was heired by John Floyd, son and heir, still an infant. 1/3 of the Slave's value was set apart for the widow (Anne). Since John is an infant he cannot be compelled to divide the slave without a Court order, John agrees to a division. Court orders the slave to be sold: 1/4 of sale to the widow, 1/4 to the heir-at-law and 2/4 to be divided between the 3 petitioners.9 Berry, Benjamin & Mary Floyd vs John Floyd Infant - Bill in Chancery - Decree to sell the Negroe Northton Ss - Berry Floyd, Benjamin Floyd & Mary Floyd the children of John Floyd late of this County, Planter, dec'd by Phillip Jacob their next friend. That the said John Floyd was at the time of his death possessed of a Negro Woman named Gibbo as his own property, who about the Month of October 1739 dyed intestate whereby the sd Negro descended to his son & heir John Floyd who is still an Infant by yet as your orators & oratrix 3/4 of the value of the sd Slave after a third part of the whole value of the sd Negro is set apart for the Widow of the sd John Floyd belongs to your orators Oratrix and as the sd heir is an Infant & cannot be compelled to pay to your Orators & Oratrix their proportionable parts of the value of the sd Slave without a Decree of this Court your Orators & Oratrix pray that you will cause the sd heir to appear before you & Answer the premises and that you will make such Order & decree herein for the relief of your Orators & Oratrix as to your Worships shall seem meet And your Orators & Oratrix as in duty bound shall pray &c. He first appeared as tithable in 1726..3 James was named in his father's will on 15 December 1718 at Northampton Co, VA.2,4 In Mar 1723/24 it was recorded in N'hamp Co that a draft of the deed from William Melling to John Satchell, guardian to James Floyd is dated 30 Mar 1723. Charle Floyd by will left his son James 50 acres lately bought from William Melling for 1500 lbs tobacco. The said Charles died before a deed was drawn up. To be lawful the said Melling gave a proper deed. Instead of a survey, a detailed description of James Floyd's land in the woods between bay & sea is given by property lines.5 He married Mary Joynes, daughter of Thomas Joynes, circa 1732.6 James (79) Floyd bought land in 1749 at Northampton Co, VA. It was in this year that James and John Floyd bought 60 acres of tract N37 from John Wilkins. (NOTE: They are assumed to have been brothers.).7,8 James was named in his brother's will on 31 January 1752 at Northampton Co, VA.
