     Ebron was born circa 1708 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Mary Mears, daughter of William Mears and Mary (-----), circa 1730.^2,3 He made a will on 18 November 1766 at Accomack Co, VA. "Eburn Byrd" named a wife Mary, a son Jacob (90 acres adjacent to Thomas Hargress); a grandson Jacob Byrd; a grandson Levi Byrd (105 acres); a daughter Mary Hornsby; a grandson Eburn Hornsby; a grandson Major Byrd; a son Jacob Byrd, a grandson Levi Byrd and daughter Mary Hornsby were residual legatees. Son Jacob Byrd, Executor. Wittness were John Wharton and Elizabeth Wharton (Acc Co Wills&c, 1767-1772, p. 160).. Ebron died before 31 May 1768 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date his will was probated. Littleton Dennis was appointed guardian of Levi Byrd, heir at law to the testator (Acc Co Wills&c, 1767-1772, p. 160)..⁴

     Major was born after 1709 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Sarah (-----) circa 1730.¹ In 1740 Major Bird purchased from Ansley and Tabitha Lingo 300 acres of land and marsh at Muddy Creek. It is doubtful that he left any male heir, as the land later was found in the possession of an Elizabeth Bird, who apparently remained unmarried, and a Lucretia who became the wife of Charles Broadwater (Whitelaw, pp. 1206-7). Major died in 1751 at Accomack Co, VA. He died intestate by 30 July 1751, when Sarah Bird, apparently his widow, was named to administer his estate (Orders 1744-1753, p. 516). Major Bird had bought 300 acres of land and marsh on Muddy Creek (north side) in 1740 and 100 additional acres in 1750 (south side) from Isaiah Johnson. This land descended to two daughters, Elizabeth Bird and Lucretia, wife of Charles Broadwater, indicating Major Bird had no sons (Whitelaw, pp. 1206 and 1207). On 31 March 1774, Elizabeth Bird, Charles Broadwater and Lucretia, his wife, brought a suit against Isaiah Johnson "in ejectment" for 100 acres of land and marsh on Muddy Creek (Orders 1774-1777, p. 119). They lost the suit, suggesting that Major Bird died before he paid for the last 100 acres. On 6 December 1793, a survey was made of 200 acres bordering the north side of Muddy Creek (Surveyors Record No. 1, p. 249). This was divided between Elizabeth Bird and "Custis and Burton". On 24 June 1800, Elizabeth Bird sold John Kelly 12 to 15 acres "situated on Muddy Creek" for 1 pound 16 shillings. This was "marsh land that formerly belonged to Charles Broadwater" (Deeds 1800-1804, p. 6)..

     Cathern was born circa 1702. She married Nathaniel Byrd Sr., son of John Byrd and Ann Ebourne, circa 1720.^1,2

     Ann was born circa 1716. She married Solomon Byrd Sr., son of John Byrd and Ann Ebourne, circa 1743. Solomon Bird had married by 29 April 1748, when his wife Ann joined him in deeding land (Deeds 1746-1757, p. 121). His wife was Ann Bull, the daughter of Tobias Bull, who wrote his will on 4 May 1751, naming a daughter as "Ann Bird, Wife of Solomon Bird (Wills 1757-1761, p. 275)..²

     Margaret was born circa 1710. She married Daniel Byrd, son of John Byrd and Ann Ebourne, circa 1734.¹

     Mary was born circa 1708 at Accomack Co, VA. She married Ebron Byrd, son of John Byrd and Ann Ebourne, circa 1730.^1,2 Mary was named in her father's will on 16 June 1744 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Mary Bird in the will of William Meers..¹

     William was born circa 1677 at Accomack Co, VA. William was named in his father's will on 16 December 1682 at Accomack Co, VA. To sons Robert & William plantation at Occahannock, Robert to have 200 acres & William the remainder..² He lived in lower Accomack County on land bought by his father Bartholomew Mears in 1679 and other acreage acquired later and willed to him by his father. It was in the area of the present day Middlesex and Good Interest Plantation, west of the ridge of the Peninsula (Whitelaw, p. 601). Situated as it was on the headwaters of Occahannock Creek, it was destined in the century ahead to have 3 mills on the land at a time in history when grist and other mills were an important factor in local industry. The name William Mears appeared on the Accomack County Tithable List in 1692 and on the Quit Rent Roll of 1704.³ He married Mary (-----) circa 1700.⁴ William was named in his mother's will on 28 July 1703 at Accomack Co, VA.⁵ William bought land in 1709 at Accomack Co, VA. He had purchased the 200 acres of land his father left his brother Robert in 1709, then owning the entire 355 acres (Acc Co Wills Etc., 1692-1715, part 2, p. 427).. William witnessed a will on 3 May 1717 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that William (an unknown value) Mears along with Daniel Eshon Sr. and Athur Laylor witnessed the will of John Lawrence..⁶ He made a will on 16 June 1744 at Accomack Co, VA.      On 28 Dec 1795, a deed was from Nathaniel Bird to Absalom Lewis was partly proved by the oath of Major Bird and Severn Bloxom witnesses thereto (Acc Orders, 1793-1796, p. 404). In his will, signed 2 Nov 1803, Nathaniel Bird named: a wife, Naomi; sons, Parker Bird, Daniel Bird and Johnhannes Bird; daughters, Rachel Bird, Naomi Bird, Elizabeth Trador and Rebecca Bloxom; and grandsons, Colly Bird and Custis Bird. Some of his land adjoined John Bird, Nath. Bird Junr., Tosia Johnson Senr., and was land Selby Bird bought. Executors were sons Parker Bird and Johannis Bird. Witnesses were Arthur Watson, Thomas Kelly, Susan Bloxom, and Ezekiel Harmon. Securities for the bond to probate were John Riley and Samuel Johnson (Acc Co Wills&c, 1800-04, p. 709). It was ordered on 30 Jun 1804 that Bennett Mason, Arthur Watson and Isaiah Johnson Senr. or any two of them do audit and settle the estate of Nath. Bird dec'd. and make return (Acc Orders 1804-05, p. 59).      Naomi was born circa 1745 at Accomack Co, VA. She married Nathaniel Byrd Jr., son of Nathaniel Byrd Sr. and Cathern (-----), circa 1762.^1,2 Naomi was living in 1803 at Accomack Co, VA.³ She made a will on 20 January 1825 at Accomack Co, VA. To daughter Naomi Northam, who was to receive all the rents now due or to become due from Daniel T. Bird (Naomi's son) and the heirs of Parker Solomon Bird (Naomi's dec'd son), also all the remainder income from other interests that may come. The executor was son-in-law, Southy Northam. Witnesses were William Northam and Nancy Bird. Securities on the bond to probate were Bennet M. Bird and William Nock of Zad..⁴ Naomi died in February 1825.⁴ Naomi's will was probated on 28 February 1825 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

     According to Colwell Byrd's book, p. 16, Major Byrd married his cousin Nancy Watson. FIND HOW THEY WERE COUSINS! In his will, signed 3 Jan 1816, Major Bird, named a wife, Anne Bird; 2 sons, Major (land of his grandfather, Benjamin T. Watson), Nathaniel Bird (land bought from Dennis Kelly); 6 daughters, Nancy Bird, Henny Bird, Harriet Bird, Tabitha Trador, Peggy Kelly and Sally Duncan. He also freed a slave, Peter. Executors were friend Southy Northam and son, Major Bird. Witnesses were Daniel T. Bird, Meshack Duncan and Southy Northam. Securities for the bond to probate were Edm'd Duncan, Daniel T. Bird and Erastus Poulson (Acc Co Wills&c, 1814-16, p. 391). Major was born circa 1763 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA. He married Anne 'Nancy' Watson, daughter of Benjamin T. Watson, circa 1783.^2,3 Major died in February 1816.⁴ Major's will was probated on 26 February 1816 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

     Selby was born circa 1765 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Esther 'Hessy' Wessells, daughter of William Wessells Sr. and Egnatia 'Nasha' (-----), circa 1794.^2,3 Selby made a will on 22 November 1802. Selby Bird named: a wife, Esther Bird; sons Custis, Colly, and William; a daughter, Nashy Bird; and a child who his wife was pregnant with. Some of his land adjoined Nathaniel Bird Jr. and John Bird Senr. Executors were Parker Bird and Johannes Bird. Witnesses were Bennett Mason, Tabitha Bird and Rachel Bird. Sureties on the bond for probate were John Gallispie, Samuel Johnson and Johannes Bird (Acc Co Wills&c 1800-04, p. 508). Selby died in December 1802.⁴ Selby's will was probated on 27 December 1802 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

     Rebecca was born circa 1767 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA. She married John Bloxom Sr., son of Thomas Bloxom Sr. and Patience Parks (Parks?), circa 1790.^2,3 Rebecca was named in her husband's will on 20 September 1800 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as a wife Rebecca in the will of John Bloxom, wife Rebecca.⁴

     Parker was born on 18 May 1769 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.² He married Keziah Gillespie, daughter of John Gillespie and (-----) (-----), on 4 February 1800 at Accomack Co, VA.³ Parker made a will on 16 October 1820. Parker Bird named a wife Keziah; sons, Selby, Richard (Parker), and John; daughters, Matilda, Sally and Betsy. The executors were his wife and friend Southy Northam. Witnesses were Southy Northam, William Bird and Johannas Bird. Securities for the bond to probate were William Bird, John Savage (of Rich'd) and Raymond Riley (Acc Co Wills&c, 1819-21, p. 282). Parker died on 18 October 1820 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA, at age 51.⁴ His body was interred at Byrd Cem, Cattail Rd, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Parker's will was probated on 30 October 1820 at Accomack Co, VA.⁵

     Elizabeth was born circa 1767 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA. She married Littleton Trader, son of Isreal (91) Trader and Comfort (-----), circa 1785.¹

     Nathaniel was born circa 1775 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.² Nathaniel died circa 1785.

     Naomi was born on 20 January 1776 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.² She married Southy Northam, son of William Northam Senr. and Nancy (-----), on 29 January 1805 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Southy Northam and she as Naomy Bird. No other information was given..³ Naomi was named in her mother's will on 20 January 1825 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴ Naomi was named in her husband's will on 9 March 1829 at Accomack Co, VA.⁵ Naomi was listed with her son in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Amy Northam, age 73 in HH#1092 headed by Samuel W. Northam, a 40 year old farmer with real estate valued at $100..⁶

     Arthur Watson was the security on the 1804 Acc Co M.L.B. of Jacob Kelly and Rachel Byrd. Rachel was born circa 1781 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.² As of 3 April 1804,her married name was Kelly.³ She married Jacob Kelly, son of Richard Kelly and Ann Rogers, on 3 April 1804 at Accomack Co, VA.³

     Daniel was born on 30 October 1785 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Nancy Gillespie on 21 January 1811 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Rhoda Riggin, daughter of Nathan Riggin, on 17 October 1815 at Accomack Co, VA.² Daniel made a will on 19 May 1845. Daniel T. Bird named a wife Rhoda; 6 sons, Samuel R. (land on Hooper's Ridge adjoining John P. Drummond, Samuel Taylor and the widow Killman), Daniel T.C., Nathaniel J. (or his children), Obed S., Littleton T., and Riley F; 3 daughters, Demariah, Emeline and Eliza Bird (unmarried). Executors were son Samuel R. Bird and friend John H. Custis. Witnessess were Henry F. Johnson, Osburn J. Bird, Eburn Bird, and John H. Custis. Securities for the bond to probate were George P. Bird, Samuel T. Taylor and Margaret K. Kelly (Acc Co Wills, 1846-82, p. 5).      Nathaniel was born circa 1758 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.² He married (d/o James Sr.) Duncan, daughter of James Duncan Sr. and Sarah Mears, circa 1783 at Accomack Co, VA.³ Nathaniel was named in his father's will on 4 March 1794 at Accomack Co, VA.      Nancy was born circa 1785. She married Daniel T. Byrd Sr., son of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, on 21 January 1811 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ As of 21 January 1811,her married name was Byrd.¹

     In her will, signed 7 Oct 1847, Rhoda Bird named 2 daughters, Emeline C. and Elizar S. Bird. Witnesses were James B. Andrews, Samuel R. Byrd and Obed S. Bird (Acc Co Wills, 1846-82, p. 26). Rhoda was born circa 1790. She married Daniel T.      Hetty was born on 19 September 1829 at Guilford, Acc Co, VA.² Hetty was named in her uncle's will on 13 January 1848 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Hetty Mears, daughter of Thomas Mears, in the Codicil to the will of James Justice of R. He left Virginia & Hetty Mears, daughters of Thomas Mears, $45 each & if any account be dealt by either of the said girls in the store of Justice & Fletcher, the same to be deducted from the legacies. It was on this date that William Laws was named to settle the estate of Catharine Mears, wife of Thomas. William C. White & Zorobabel C. Laws were the securities..⁴

     William was born circa 1770 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Keziah Hinman (Kelly?) on 7 January 1792 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as William Bird and she as Caziah Hinman. No other information was given..² In the 1800 census, William Bird was designated as William Bird, J, aged 26 to 45 years, with a wife of the same age, and a son under 10 years. There was one other male in the household. William Bird owned two slaves in 1800. On 29 December 1800, William Bird bought 60 acres of land "at head of Muddy Creek", from Jacob Bloxom for 290 pounds (Deeds 1800-1804, p. 30).The land was bound on the northwest by the lands of John Riley, on the southwest and southeast by the heirs of Robert Mears, and on the northeast by the heirs of Oliver Bell. Jacob Bloxom had had this land surveyed on 30 October 1800 (Surveyors Record, #3, p. 23 and Whitelaw, p. 1202). It was an odd-shaped tract, bordered on the northwest "by the Bayside road dividing (it) from the lands of John Riley", the southeast portion extending back behind the Robert Mears land. The farm is located southeast of the intersection of present-day routes 658 and 682. It is directly across the road from the southern road to open water at Muddy Creek. A part of the 60 acres was owned by the family until 1905. The 1810 census again gave William Bird as head of a household, aged 26 to 45, with two females of the same age. Apparently his first son was deceased by 1810, for he only had one male in his household, under 10 years. He again owned two slaves. On 2h June 1811, William Bird, Levin Bloxom, and Erastus Poulson bound themselves, by a $1,000 bond, to George W. Smith, Esquire, Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as William Bird was appointed, by the Court of Accomack County, as constable for precinct No. 1, for a two-year period (Deeds 1810-1812, p.286). William Bird was reappointed to this position every succeeding two years until 25 June 1821, when he was last named constable of "precinct of Accomack Parish" for two years (Deeds 1821-1822, p. 553). At this time, Crippen Taylor and Thorogood Taylor Joined him in binding themselves to Thomas M. Randolph, Esquire, Governor of Virginia, for $1500.
The 1820 census listed William Bird as head of a household, aged over 45, with two females over 45 and a son between 10 years and 16 years. He then had three slaves. On 6 July 1822, William Bird bought 43 acres of land from Spencer D. Fletcher for $400 (Deeds 1822-1824, p. 40). The land was bound on the north by lands of William Mason, on the east by the county road running from Muddy Creek to Messongo Bridge, and on the west by lands of Daniel T. Bird. On 4 July 1823, William Bird paid $40 for 11 acres of Abbott Bloxom land (Deeds 1824-1825, p. 148). He was the highest bidder for the land at an auction by James Gillet, Sheriff. No boundaries were given in the deed, but this land was apparently adjacent to his home farm. In his will, William Bird mentioned owning 10 acres Taylor land joining the last purchase, but no record has been found of him buying this or hiring it. Thomas Taylor owned 20 acres of land adjoining William Bird's home farm in 1789 (Deed 1788-1793 p. 259). He made a will on 23 January 1825 at Accomack Co, VA. To Elizabeth Thorns my housman lands called my Bloxom land & 10 acres adjoining the Bloxom land called the Taylor land & at her death or marriage I give these lands to her son James Thorns. To son John Bird my land & house where I now live & my lands I bought of Spencer D. Fletcher & the remainder & if he dies before he arrives to age 21 or he has no lawful issue, then to James Thorns. Witt: Nathaniel S. Topping, Nancy Bird & Griffin Bishop. It is obvious that William Bird's wife, Caziah (Hinman) Bird, was in ill health, for him to have needed a housekeeper and not name her in his will. It is likely she had been unwell since losing a son and the birth of another between 1800 and 1810. This would account for the two females in the William Bird household in 1810, both aged 26 to 45. In 1820, they were both over 4, years. William Bird was seemingly trying to protect his wife, should their only son die, by leaving his property to the Thorns..³ William died in February 1825.³ William's will was probated on 28 February 1825 at Accomack Co, VA. Nathaniel S. Topping & William Nock of Zadock became Admrs. with Walter D. Bayne, Thomas R. Joynes & Raymond Riley securities..³ William estate was settled on 29 January 1827 at Accomack Co, VA. 28 Feb 1825 (Order to Invy), 3 Mar 1825 (Invy), 8 Dec 1826 (Audit), 29 Jan 1827 (Rec'd) - Appraisers: William Riley & John F. Riley. Nathaniel Topping & William Nock Admr. Paid Nathaniel S. Topping as trustee to the widow of William Bird dec'd. Paid to John W. Bird 2/3 to balance. Keziah Bird, widow of William Bird dec'd, received 1/3. Auditors: Henry Fletcher & John F. Riley. Nathaniel Topping was appointed trustee for Kasiah Bird on 8 December 1826, when she received one-third of her husband's estate (Wills 1826-1828, p. 217). Her estate was turned over to her son, John W. Bird, on 26 February 1827, when he gave a bond to the Justices of Accomack County for $3000 (Deeds 1825-1827, p. 28). It is not known when Casiah/Kasiah Bird Died. John W. Bird had two females in his household in 1830, age 50 to 60 years, and one in 1840, of 70 to 80 years. The inventory of William Bird's personal property was returned on 29 January 1827 (Wills 1826-1828, p. 212). It included twenty open notes of friends and neighbors, to whom he had loaned money. No slaves were listed, but approximately four pages was devoted to livestock, farming tools, household furniture, and other items. He owned a silver watch, a corner cupboard, a walnut table, a pine one and six Windsor chairs..⁴

     Keziah was born circa 1770 at Accomack Co, VA. She married William Byrd, son of John W. Byrd Sr. and Mary (-----), on 7 January 1792 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as William Bird and she as Caziah Hinman. No other information was given..¹ Keziah was named as an heir on 29 January 1827 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Keziah Bird, widow of William Bird dec'd and received 1/3 of the balance of his estate when it was settled..² Keziah died after 1830.³

     John was born on 11 October 1806 at Accomack Co, VA.² John was named in his father's will on 23 January 1825 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son John Bird in the will of William Bird..³ He married Nancy Bloxom, daughter of Major Simpson Bloxom and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Hope, on 2 December 1825 at Worcester Co, MD.² John was named as an heir on 29 January 1827 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as John W. Bird and was given 2/3 of the balance of the estate of William Bird..⁴ John W. Bird's name first appeared in Accomack County records on 27 February 1827, when he was made trustee for his mother. He opposed the proving of his grandfather's will on 1 December 1829. The 1830 census shows him aged 20 to 30, with a wife of the same age and a son under 5 years. There was one other male in his household, likely his cousin George P. Bird, aged 15 to 20. The two older females in the home, aged 50 to 60, appear to have been his mother and her nurse. John W. Bird had 11 slaves in 1830. On 30 June 1831, John W. Bird bought 43 acres from William Mason for $525 (Deeds 1830-1832, p. 212). This land adjoined, on the north, the 43 acre of the Spencer D. Fletcher land he had inherited from his father. The census of 1840 gives both John W. Bird and his wife as 30 to 40 years of age. They had two sons, one under 5 years and one between 10 and 15 years. There were four daughters in the household, all under 15 years, and one other female, aged 70 to 80 years. John W. Bird had 16 slaves in 1840. John W. Bird bought "Jester Land", on 1 July 1846 (Deeds 1846-1848, p. 219). The deed does not give the acreage of this tract, only that he paid $30, that it was the property of Henry Davis, deceased, and was sold at Nock's store. John W. Bird paid $60 for 6 acres on 2 October 1847, which he bought from John Y. Fitchett and wife, land adjacent his home farm (Deeds 1846-1848, p. 578). On 30 October 1848, John W. Bird bought 40 acres from John W. Tunnell and wife Rosetta for $400 (Deeds 1848-1849, p. 366). By 1850, John W. Bird's home place, the 60 acres his father bought in 1800, had grown into a 103-acre farm by additional purchases of surrounding tracts (Surveyors Record ;#7, p. 79). John W. Bird owned the 43 acres his father bought from Spencer D. Fletcher in 1822 (he called this "Fisher land" in his will, it contained a shoemaker's shop), the 43-acre Mason land, the 40-acre Tunnel land, the Jester land and his wife's 66-acre farm. Moreover, there were a number of deeds of mortgage, between 1827 to 1855, in which John W. Bird loaned money and accepted land and/or personal property as security. On 17 January 1843, his uncle ,Eburn Bird owed John W. Bird $1223.33 (Deeds 1842-1843, p. 507). This was cancelled on 31 March 1845 (Deeds 1844-1846, p. 273), but the same day a new mortgage was made by Eburn Bird to a group of people, John W. Bird being one of these (p. 265). This property was released on 27 June 1854 (Deeds 1853-1855, p. 553). John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John W. Bird Sr. the head of HH#1028, a 44 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,000. Listed with him were the following Birds: Nancy, age 44; George W., a 21 year old laborer; Eveline, age 17; Elizabeth, age 15; Susan, age 12; Littleton M., age 9; Mary, age 7; John W., age 5; Wm. K., age 1 and Nancy, age 75 (who is assumed to be his father's sister). Also listed was Mary Fisher, age 25 and black..⁵ He made a will on 30 May 1855. John W. Byrd named: a wife, Nancy (land held in her own rite, dower and one negro woman Leah); 4 sons, George W. (land adjoining Edmund Bell, Parker land where George by Riley resides), William R. (under 21, land near school house), Littleton M. (under 21, south end of Fisher land), John O. (under 21, north end of Mason and Fisher land adjoining Custis W. Byrd dec'd, shoemakers shop at store house); 5 daughters, Sarah A. Mason, Eveline Kelly, Susannah Byrd (under 21), Mary Byrd (under 21) and Elizabeth Trader, w/o Samuel Trader. The executors were George W. Byrd and James Mason. Witnesses were Wm. S. Fletcher, Harvey Johnson and S.J. Marshall. Sureties on the bond for probate were George W. Byrd, Richard Mason, John C. Wessells, and Major Mason Senr (Acc Co Wills, 1846-82, p. 260).. John died in 1857.⁶ John's will was probated on 30 November 1857 at Accomack Co, VA.⁶ The inventory of John W. Byrd's personal property covers six pages and included nine slaves (Inv. 1856-1861, p. 457). His widow bought most of the household furniture at the sale on 16 December 1857. Among these items were a corner cupboard, six Winds on chairs, and a mahogany table.

     Nancy was born on 12 December 1806 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She married John W. Byrd Sr., son of William Byrd and Keziah Hinman (Kelly?), on 2 December 1825 at Worcester Co, MD.¹ Nancy was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Nancy Bird, age 44 in HH#1028 headed by John W. Bird Sr., a 44 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,000..² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.³ She married George Bloxom, son of George Bloxom Sr. and Elizabeth (-----), on 12 March 1863 at Worcester Co, MD.⁴ Nancy died on 7 February 1896 at Bloxom Station, Acc Co, VA, at age 89.¹

     George was born on 10 March 1829 at Accomack Co, VA.³ George was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as George W. Bird, a 21 year old laborer in HH#1028 headed by John W. Bird Sr., a 44 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,000..² He married Elizabeth C. Wessells, daughter of John Wessells Sr. and Nancy Parks, on 20 December 1852 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as George W. Byrd and she as Elizabeth Wessells of Capt. John Wessells..⁴ George died on 16 March 1899 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 70.³

     An indenture was made 24 Oct 1859 between George W. Bird, Elijah B. Kelly and Elizabeth C. Bird formerly Elizabeth C. Wessells, the wife of the said George W. Bird. Children: Elizabeth Bird, John C. Wessells, Amanda Wessells, Ellen Wessells, Mary Wessells, and Jane Wessells (Acc Deeds No. 41, 1858-1860, p. 629). All these children except Elizabeth Bird, appear to be brothers and sisters of Elizabeth C. Wessells. This is based on all of them being listed in the 1850 household of John Wessells, age 65, believed to be the father of Elizabeth C. Wessells (Acc 1850 Census, p. 43, HH# 706). Elizabeth was born on 15 June 1828 at Accomack Co, VA.² Elizabeth was listed with another family in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Elizabeth C. Wessells, age 21 in HH#694 headed by Polly Wessells, age 39, who was probably her aunt..³ She married George W. Byrd, son of John W. Byrd Sr. and Nancy Bloxom, on 20 December 1852 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as George W. Byrd and she as Elizabeth Wessells of Capt. John Wessells..¹

     Anne was born circa 1763. She married Major Byrd Sr., son of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, circa 1783.^2,3 Anne was living in 1816 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     She was called "Hessey Bird" in her father's will of 1802 and "Easther Bird" in her mother's will of 1806. In her will, signed 6 May 1813, "Hessy" Bird named sons Custis Bird, William Bird (under 21) and Colly Bird and a daughter, Natia Bird. The executor was friend, Thomas Kelly. Witnesses were Walter Wessells and Parker Bird. The securities on the bond for probate were Daniel T. Bird, Henry Trader and Jesse Duncan (Acc Co Wills, 1812-14, p. 326). Esther was born circa 1776 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Selby Byrd, son of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, circa 1794.^3,4 Esther was living in 1802 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Esther died in October 1813.⁵ Esther's will was probated on 25 October 1813 at Accomack Co, VA.⁵

     John was born circa 1752 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Euphamia Lewis, daughter of Levin Lewis (I) and Margaret Major, circa 1775.² John was named in his father's will before 18 August 1784 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son John Bloxom in
the will of Thomas Bloxom, wife Patience. He gave him "that is due from the United States on account of his brother Thomas his Services or Depreciation."¹ He married Rebecca Byrd, daughter of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, circa 1790.^3,4 John made a will on 20 September 1800 at Accomack Co, VA. To wife Rebecca Bloxom the whole of my property real & personal, during her life or widowhood, consisting of 19 acres & ... After wife's marriage or death, then: To son Thomas Bloxom the whole of my 19 acres & … To daughter Naomi Bloxom … To son Woodman ... To son Selby Bloxom £10. To son John Bloxom £10. To daughter Rebecca Bloxom … Remainder to my 5 youngest children. Wife Rebecca Bloxom, friend Parker Bird & Selby Bird Extrs. Witt: Solomon Ewell, George Matthews & Arthur Whittington.⁵ He died before 25 October 1802. It was on this date that his will was probated. Azariah Johnson & Parker Bird securities.⁵

     Littleton was born circa 1764 at Accomack Co, VA. Littleton was named in his grandfather's will on 9 October 1771 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a grandson Littleton Armitrader in the will of Littleton Armitrader. He was give land where I now live & for want of issue to my daughter Ann Bird. At probate, James Henry was guardian to Littleton Armitrader, heir at law to the testator. (Note: This implied that he was the oldest son of the oldest son.).¹ Littleton chose a guardian on in 1778. It was on this date that Littleton Trader chose William Young as his guardian.. He married Elizabeth Byrd, daughter of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, circa 1785.² This Littleton Trader exchanged land left him by his grandfather for land near Accomac, in St. George Parish, in 1785 and sold this in 1788 & 1807. Littleton was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1800 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Littleton A. Trader, a head of household, age 26-45, with a wife of the same age. There were 4 males under age 10, 2 males age 10-16, 2 young females and 1 slave.. Littleton died in 1826. It was on this date that Littleton Trader's estate was administered to the Sheriff. He has a son James H. Trader that was boarded out in 1826..

     Keziah was born circa 1780 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Parker Solomon Byrd, son of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, on 4 February 1800 at Accomack Co, VA.³ As of 4 February 1800,her married name was Byrd.³ Keziah was named in her father's will on 8 May 1823. She was shown as Keziah Bird in the will of John Gillespie. She married Riley Fisher, son of George Fisher Sr., on 5 January 1827 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴ Keziah was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Kesiah Fisher, age 70 in HH#554 headed by Riley Fisher, a 65 year old farmer..²

     Southy was born circa 1780 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Naomi 'Neomy' or 'Amy' Byrd, daughter of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, on 29 January 1805 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Southy Northam and she as Naomy Bird. No other information was given..² He made a will on 9 March 1829 at Accomack Co, VA. To wife balance of land during her life or widowhood and then to be equally divided among my surviving children (not named). As the will was not signed, Spencer Drummond and Bennet M. Bird proved the will and there being no executor named, Thomas Fletcher (the widow relinquishing), with Walter Broadwater and James K. Duncan securities, was issued letters of administration..³ Southy was named in his father's will on 24 July 1830 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴ Southy died in 1833 at Accomack Co, VA.³ Southy's will was probated on 25 November 1833 at Accomack Co, VA. At probate, there being no subscribing witnesses to the will, Spencer Drummond and Bennet M. Bird made oath that they were well acquainted with the hand writing of Southy Northam, and that they believe that the whole of said will and the signature of the name of said Southy Northam thereto, to be in the proper handwriting of said Southy Northam. There being no executor named in the will, on the motion of Tho. Fletcher (it appearing to the court that the widow relinquishes in his favor) taking oath and giving bond according to the law in the penalty of $2,000, with Water Broadwater and James K. Duncan securities..³

     Richard H. Taylor was the security on the 1814 Acc Co M.L.B. of Jacob Kelly and Euphanica Harmon, widow of Savage. Jacob was born circa 1757 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Jacob was a member of the armed forces serving at the Revolution.² He married Esther (-----) circa 1780.¹ He married Rachel Byrd, daughter of Nathaniel Byrd Jr. and Naomi Watson, on 3 April 1804 at Accomack Co, VA.³ He married Euphamia Kelly, daughter of Griffin Kelly and Laveniah Bloxom, 13 Jan 1814 (bond) at Accomack Co, VA.³ Jacob died in 1819.⁴ Jacob's will was probated on 27 September 1819 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

     William was born circa 1805.²

     Edmund Duncan was the security on the 1813 Acc Co M.L.B. of Israel Trader and Tabitha Bird of Major. Tabitha was born circa 1790 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Isreal Trader, son of Littleton Trader and Elizabeth Byrd, on 29 November 1813 at Accomack Co, VA.³

     Isreal was born circa 1786 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Tabitha Byrd, daughter of Major Byrd Sr. and Anne 'Nancy' Watson, on 29 November 1813 at Accomack Co, VA.² Isreal died in October 1824.³ Administration of Isreal's estate was filed on 25 October 1824 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that William Laws was named to settle the estate of Israel Trader.      James was born circa 1821 at Accomack Co, VA.³ James was named in his father's will on 30 March 1838 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He married Rose Ann 'Rosey' Marshall, daughter of Henry Marshall and Egnasha 'Nasha' Chase, circa 1842. James was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Edmond Trader the head of HH#960, a 29 year old farmer. Listed with him were the following Traders: Rosey, age 31; Wm. H., age 3; James J., age 1; and Rosetta, age 11. Also listed were Elizabeth Knight, age 41, Henry Knight, a 16 year old laboer and Nathalie W. Knight, age 5..³ James was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Edwin Trader the head of HH#461, a 43 year old farmer. Listed with him were the following Traders: Rose Ann, age 44; William, age 13; James, age 10; and George N., age 8..⁴ James died on 25 October 1887 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. His death record shows him as Jas. E. Trader, who died of dropsy at the age of 70, the son of Wm. & Comfort Trader, born in Acc Co, a farmer, the husband of Rose. A friend Sam'l T. No other information was given..³ Elizabeth was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Elizabeth A.W. Kelly, age 26 in HH#1059 headed by Richard Kelly, a 37 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500..⁴ Elizabeth died on 1 March 1910 at age 87.² Her body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.²

     Richard was born in 1814 at Accomack Co, VA. The 1850 census puts his birth at 1813 and his tombstone puts it at 1812 and family records shows 1814..^2,3,4 He married Elizabeth A.W. Trader, daughter of Isreal Trader and Tabitha Byrd, on 1 September 1842 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as only as Richard R. Kelly and she as Elizabeth A.W. Trader. No other information was given..⁵ Richard was named in his grandfather's will on 5 December 1842 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a grandson Richard Kelly in the will of Richard Wimbrough..⁶ Richard was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Richard Kelly the head of HH#1059, a 37 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500. Listed with him were the following Kellys: Elizabeth A.W., age 26; Tabitha S., age 6; and John, age 2..³ Richard died on 1 December 1860.⁴ His body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     John was born on 20 December 1847 at Accomack Co, VA.³ John was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Kelly, age 2 in HH#1059 headed by Richard Kelly, a 37 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500..² He married Margaret V. Nock, daughter of James T. Nock and Rachel A. Hinman, in 1868.⁴ John died on 16 August 1907 at age 59.³ His body was interred at Brittingham's Cm, MD/VA Line.³

     Richard was born on 20 August 1850 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Susan M. Ross in 1880.³ Richard died on 14 January 1908 at age 57.² His body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.²

     Margaret was born on 26 March 1850 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Margaret was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Margaret N. Nock, age 3/12 in HH#535 headed by James T. Nock, a 26 year old farmer..² She married John W. Kelly, son of Richard R. Kelly and Elizabeth A.W. Trader, in 1868.³ Margaret died on 18 January 1907 at age 56.¹ Her body was interred at Brittingham's Cm, MD/VA Line.¹

     James was born circa 1824 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He married Rachel A. Bird and Ann Northam of Southy..³ Benjamin was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Benjamin T.W. "Homicide at Messongo:" Bennette T.W. Byrd was shot and mortally wounded by Samuel T. Taylor, near Messongo Bridge, this county (Acc), last Thursday morning (Pen. Ent., 30 May 1885). The article explains the circumstant of the shooting. In his will, signed in 1872, Benjamin T.W. Byrd named his mother, Hennie Byrd; wife, Tabitha (Elitha) Ann Byrd; friend, Wm. S. Byrd, who was also the executor. Witnesses were Parker Byrd, Staton F. Byrd and Teackle L. Byrd (Acc Co Wills, 1882-1901, p. 87)..⁵ His body was interred at Benson Cem, Messongo Bridge, Acc Co, VA.² Benjamin's will was probated on 29 June 1885 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     Major was born in 1793 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. In 1860, a Major Byrd, aged 66 years and a master shoemaker, was living in Acc Parish HH#701, headed by Martin H. Kelly, age 35 and farming. Martin was the son of Major's sister, Margaret, who married Thomas Kelly. They were next door to Parker Byrd, age 39, and wife Mary Ann, age 32, and their children..³ Major died circa 1865.²

     Mrs. Harriet M. Connor died in Middlesex Co, VA, last week. She was a Miss Byrd of Acc Co and was born 9 July 1802 (Pen. Ent., 24 Nov 1900). Harriet was born on 9 July 1802 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married (-----) Conner circa 1820.² Harriet died in November 1900 at Middlesex Co, VA, at age 98.²

     Custis was born on 3 August 1794 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.² He married Keziah Taylor, daughter of Shadrack Taylor and Nancy Lucas, on 28 October 1816 at Accomack Co, VA.³ He married Mary D. 'Polly' Fisher, daughter of John Fairfax Throughgood Fisher and Sallie (-----), on 18 April 1825 at Worcester Co, MD.⁴ Custis made a will on 20 November 1843. In his will, signed 20 Nov 1843, Custis W. Bird, specified that his sons be raised to the age of 16 years and schooled from the rent of land and slaves and that his daughters be raised to the age of 14 years from the rent of land and slaves. When the youngest daughter reached 14 years, then his bequeaths would take effect. He named sons, Colmore E. Bird, John W.C. Bird, Silvester F. Bird, Odian J. Bird and William A. Bird; daughters, Hetty A. Kelley (one shilling), Drusilla F. Bird, Mary E.C. Bird and Sarah S. Bird; grandsons, Thomas C. Kelly and Elijah Kelly, both under age 21 years. Executors were Colmore S. Bird and William S. Bird. Witnesses were Henry S. Wessells, Littleton T. Bird and Bennet M. Bird. Securities for the bond to probate were David Broadwater and James H. Fletcher (Acc Co Wills&c, 1828-46, p. 515). Custis died on 18 July 1844 at age 49.⁵ His body was interred at Byrd Plot, Cattail, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Custis's will was probated on 29 July 1844 at Accomack Co, VA.⁶
