He was president of the Farmers Bank of Oak Hall at Horsey from 1920 to 1927, and was postmaster at Jenkins Bridge from 1883 to 1908. He was also a merchant at that place for many years, having started as a clerk for Harry White, later operating a store of his own. Mr. White also served for a number of years as secretary of the Farm Bureau. Survivors and active pallbearers were were listed, all of who were named (obituray in unknown newspaper). Mr. Samuel B. They were married by J.E.T. Ewell..¹ Matilda died circa 1900 at VA or MD.^5,3

     James was born circa 1835.² He married Matilda 'Till' Small, daughter of Solomon J. Small and Sally Byrd, circa 1859.^2,3 James died circa 1863.²

     John was born circa 1832.¹ He married Matilda 'Till' Small, daughter of Solomon J. Small and Sally Byrd, circa 1863.^1,2

     (-----) was born circa 1960. He married Susan Corbin, daughter of Stephen S. Corbin Jr., circa 1980.^1,2

     Cornelius was born on 29 April 1847 at Accomack Co, VA.² Cornelius was listed with another family in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Cornelius Corbin, age 3 in HH#926 headed by Gillet P. Ewell, age 45. Also listed was Sarah A. Corbin, who evidently was his grandmother. In the 1860 Census he is living with his father, who was listed as Stephen Corbin..³ Cornelius was listed with his father in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Cornelius Corbin, age 13 in HH#191 headed by Stephen Corbin, a 45 year old farmer with real estate valued at $3,500 and personal property valued at $4,000..⁴ Cornelius was listed with his father in the census of in 1870 at Atlantic Dist, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Cornelius Corbin, a 23 year old retail merchant in HH#AT639, headed by Stephen Corbin, a 55 year old farmer with real estate valued at $2,000 and real property valued at $200..⁵ He married Arinthia Dennis Warner, daughter of Solomon Warner Jr. and Arinthia Dennis Corbin, on 2 January 1890 at Atlantic, Acc Co, VA.^1,6 Cornelius died on 26 May 1920 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA, at age 73.² Cornelius's will was probated on 27 May 1920.⁷ His body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.²

     Mrs. Arinthia Warner Corbin Green of Sanford died at the Memorial Hospital at Nassawadox, VA, on 16 May 1957, aged 91 years. She was the daughter of Solomon and Arinthia Warner. She was survived by only a grandson, Mr. Stephen Corbin Jr. of Newport News, VA (Pen. Ent., 23 May 1957). Arinthia was born on 22 October 1865 at Atlantic, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married Cornelius Corbin, son of Stephen Corbin and Mary Miles, on 2 January 1890 at Atlantic, Acc Co, VA.^1,2 She married Harry G. Greene on 27 December 1927 at Snow Hill, Wor Co, MD.³ Arinthia was living in 1954 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Arinthia died on 16 May 1957 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 91.⁵ Her body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     Mr. Harry G. Greene, of Seattle, WA, and Mrs. Arintha D. (Warner) Corbin of Sanford, VA, were married at Snow Hill, MD, 27 Dec 1927 (Pen. Ent., 27 Dec 1927). Harry was born on 2 January 1887.¹ Harry was living in 1927 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.² He married Arinthia Dennis Warner, daughter of Solomon Warner Jr. and Arinthia Dennis Corbin, on 27 December 1927 at Snow Hill, Wor Co, MD.² Harry died on 25 March 1928 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA, at age 41.¹ His body was interred at J.W. He was shown as Edward T. Corbin the head of HH#380, a 37 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,000. Listed with him were the following Corbins: Ann B., age 38; Arinthia D., age 13; Ann R., age 8; George W., age 6; and Marietta, age 1. It was on this date that Ralph Corbin was named Extr. to the will of Esther Marshall..² He married Elizabeth 'Betsey' Dennis, daughter of Shadrack Dennis and Esther D. Marshall, circa 1802.³ Ralph (Broadwater) Corbin was listed as a head of household in the 1810 Census, age 26-45 (b.c. 1765-1785) with a wife over 45 (b. before 1765), 3 sons (2: under 10, 1: 16-26), 6 daughters (4: under 10, 2: 16-26), 10 slaves and 1 other (probably a free negro). Ralph died on 19 October 1815.³ Ralph's will was probated on 28 November 1815 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

     Although her age does not seem to be correct, Elizabeth (Dennis) Corbin is listed as a head of household in the 1820 Census, age 16-26 (she was actually 38) with 5 white males (2: under 10, 2: 10-16, and 1: 16-26) and 2 white females (1: under 10, and 1: 10-16), 1 free negro and 2 slaves. This is thought to be Ralph Broadwater Corbin's wife, Elizabeth Dennis, since he died in 1815 and would have left her with about this size family. Elizabeth was born on 2 February 1782 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Elizabeth was named in her mother's will on 13 November 1800 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as a daughter Elizabeth Corbin and given 2 shillings in the will of Esther Marshall..² She married Rev. Ralph Broadwater Corbin, son of George Bonnewell Corbin and Sarah Broadwater, circa 1802.¹ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1820 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.³ She married Caleb Broadwater, son of Elias Broadwater Sr. and Esther(?) (-----), on 22 December 1824 at Accomack Co, VA. David Broadwater and John Custis were securities on the M.L.B. of Caleb Broadwater of Elias and Elizabeth Corbin, widow of Ralph..⁴ Elizabeth died on 2 August 1839 at age 57.¹

     Edward was born on 25 December 1848 at Accomack Co, VA.² Edward was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Edward G. Corbin, age 2 in HH#624 headed by Robert Corbin, a 32 year old farmer. He was also shown as Edward J. Corbin, age 2 in HH#1009 headed by Robert Corbin, a 30 year old farmer..¹ Capt. Edward Corbin went to Hack's Neck in 1869 and was Master of sailing vessels during his residence there. He moved to the Quinby area about 1905. From 1885 to 1892 he was under contract with the State of Virginia to police the public oyster grounds of the Tangier-Pocomoke Sound section, providing his own crew. The schooner "Rodgers" later named "Tangier" was used for this purpose.³ He married Milcah Ellen Cooper Kelso, daughter of Capt. John Kelso and Anne Evans, in 1870.³ Edward died on 26 August 1926 at Quinby, Acc Co, VA, at age 77. Capt. E.J. Corbin, aged 77 years and 8 months, died at his home at Quinby on 26 Aug 1926. He was the former captain of the police boat. He was survived by 7 children which were not listed (E.S. News, 3 Sep 1926)..⁴ His body was interred at Onancock Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     Lawson was born in 1849 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Lawson was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Lawer A. Corbin, age 10/12 in HH#624 headed by Robert Corbin, a 32 year old farmer. He was also shown as Lanson A. Lawson Corbin was living with John Crockett in the 1860 Census..² He married Polly E. Evans, daughter of Benjamin Evans and Betsy (-----), on 3 July 1872 at Somerset Co, MD.³ Lawson was living at Smith Island, Som Co, MD.⁴ He married Maggie A. Evans on 24 June 1902 at Somerset Co, MD.³ Lawson was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1910 at Smith Island, Som Co, MD. The 1910 Census of Somerset Co, MD, taken on 19 Apr 1910, Enumeration District 85 Smith Island shows Lawson A. Corbin head of household 59 located on Main Street leading North. He is a 60 year old oysterman born in Virginia, both parents born in Virginia, he owns his house free of a mortgage and has been married for 8 years. Living with him is his wife Marggie A. age 45 born in Maryland, both parents born in Maryland, she's been married for 8 years and does not have any children; Harrison E. age 25 born in Maryland, an oysterman; Margie B. age 17 born in Maryland; stepson Lewis A. Evans age 21 born in Maryland, an oysterman.
. Lawson died in 1930.⁵ His body was interred at Ewell, Smith Island, Somerset Co, MD.⁵

     Henry was born circa 1619.¹ He married Elizabeth Argent, daughter of George Argent and (-----) Baker, on 22 February 1638/39 at London, England.² Henry died circa 1660 at St. Marys Co, MD.¹ Henry's will was probated on 23 June 1662 at St. Marys Co, MD.¹

     Elizabeth was born circa 1627.^2,1 She married Henry Potter, son of Henrie Potter and Ann (-----), on 22 February 1638/39 at London, England.¹ As of 22 February 1638/39,her married name was Potter.¹ As of circa 1663,her married name was Green.³ Elizabeth Argent married (-----) Green circa 1663 at St. Mary's Co, MD.³ Elizabeth made a will in January 1682/83 at St. Mary's Co, MD. In her will of Jan 1682/83 Mrs. Elizabeth Green of St. Mary's Co, MD (evidently Potter's mother) requested that Henry Potter and Thomas Dixon take care of her grandson, Adrian Marshall.⁴ Elizabeth died after January 1682/83 at St. Mary's Co, MD.⁴

     Henrie was born circa 1574 at England.² Henrie Potter and his wife Ann, may be the earliest known ancestors of the Potter family of Somerset Co, MD. They were in the London Marchant listed in John Ward's muster of the inhabitants of Elizabeth City, VA, beyond Hampton River being the Companys Land, in 1624/25 (between 20 Jan and 7 Feb), Potter's age given as 50 (Annie L. Jester, Adventures of Purse and Person, 2nd ed., 1964, p. 64). He married Ann (-----) circa 1600.^2,3 Henrie was living at Elizabeth City, VA. Henrie died after 1625 at Elizabeth City County, VA.^2,4

     Ann was born circa 1575. She married Henrie Potter circa 1600.^1,2

     Lulie was born circa 1865. She married James (A. or R.) Stant, son of Robert James Stant and Mary Chase, on 25 September 1887 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA. He was a 20 year old oysterman and she was aged 23 and widowed from Somerset Co, MD..¹

     Early Radin Marshall died of diphtheria. Early was born on 2 October 1878 at Mears, Acc Co, VA.² Early died on 9 November 1884 at Mears, Acc Co, VA, at age 6.² His body was interred at Bethel Bapt Ch Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.²

     Edward was born circa 1642 at Shafston, County Dorset, England.¹ Early theory was that this Accomack Co, VA, Byrd family came from the Western Shore of Virginia to settle at Muddy Creek in the early part of the eighteenth century and that there were a lineal descendant of William Byrd, who settled on the James River in 1610. Accomack County records prove conclusively that this is not the case. The James River Byrd family started with William Byrd I, who died there in 1704, leaving only one surviving son, William Byrd II, of Westover. He died in 1744, with only one son, William Byrd III. It appears there could have been no relationship between the two families in this country. It is interesting that the father of William Byrd I was a John Bird of London, goldsmith. There could have been a family connection in England. The Byrds of Westover and the Birds of Muddy Creek were not the only families to bear the name in early Virginia records. The names of Richard Bird, John Bird, James Bird and Robert Bird appeared between 1635 and 1658. A Thomas Byrd was in Northampton County by 1658. There was a Joseph Bird who gave a deposition in Northampton County in September of 1680, giving his age as 16 years (N'hamp Orders &, Wills 1678 - 1683, p. 90). His name was among Accomack County tithables in 1692, 1693, 1694, and 1695, but did not appear again in local records. Tracing this Bird line has been complicated in only two places. The first was solved when it was found that Whitelaw (p. 1201) was mistaken when he stated Solomon Bird did not mention land in his will and the finding of a survey record proving John Bird inherited Solomon's land. It took a while longer to find what next happened to Solomon's land. Son John left it to his son Ebourn, but Ebourn Bird did not inherit it. A chancery record cleared up this point. The Bird name in Accomack County started to change to Byrd circa 1855. The 1860 census shows approximately two-third Byrds and one-third Birds. He married (-----) (-----) circa 1663 at Shafston, County Dorset, England.¹ Edward sailed for Virginia, apparently leaving his family, a wife, young son (perhaps age 1-2) behind in England.¹ Edward was named as a headright on 10 May 1664 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Edward Bird was given as a headright by Richard Kellam, when the latter was granted 900 acres in Accomack County "at head of Mathepungo Creek, beginning on the north side of his former divident" (Nugent, p. 454). Richard Kellam had patented 100 acres in 1662, "near Matchepungo Creek, bordered on the east by the seaboard" (p. 419). The location of Richard Kellam's land between present-day Kller and Painter, extending eastward toward the barrier islands (Whitelaw, p. 763), places Edward Bird in the lower part of Accomack County in 1664. He likely had bound himself, for a few years, as an indentured servant to Richard Kellam, to pay back his transportation costs from England. Edward Bird's name appears as an Accomack County tithable (on the tax lists) from 1676, showing he owned property with a value to be taxed from that date. Robert Taylor and wife Hannah sold 100 acres to Edward Bird on 20 December 1692 for 3000 pounds of tobacco (Wills & C Orders 1682-1697, p. 263).This land was located near present-day Locustville (Whitelaw, p. 850).. He married Jane Spiers (Spiers?), daughter of (f/o Jno & Jane) Spiers, circa 1690 at Accomack Co, VA.² He made a will on 12 April 1697 at Accomack Co, VA. In the name of God Amen ye Edward Bird of Accomack County in the Colony of Virginia being of imperfect health but of perfect memory praised be the Lord Imprimis doe Comit my Soule into the hands of my heavenly father hopeing to receive free pardon & forgiveness of all my Sinns and my body to be buried in Christian manner as my Exectr hereafter nominated Shall think fitt & Convenient Item I make my Sonn in Law William Rodgers Sole & whole Execetr of this my Last Will & Testament revokeing all other wills or deeds of Sale formerly by me made to be null & void. Item I doe give & bequeath unto my aforesd Sonn in Law William Rodgers all my houses Lands, Chattells at moveables of what nature soever to him & his Lawfully begotten heirs for ever; he my aforesd Sonn in Law maintaining me & my now wife Jane Bird in sufficient victualls & Cloths during our naturall Lives.
Item I give. bequeath unto my sonn John Bird one yearling heifer to him & the Lawfully begotten heirs of his body for ever. Signed Sealed & delivered Edward Bird in the presence of us Edmund Allen, William Dennison, and Tho: Agen. (Acc Wills & Etc 1692-1715, part 1, p. 166). In recape, he named his "son in law" William Rodgers as executor and left him "all my houses, Lands, Chattells and moveables of what nature soever" provided he maintain him and his "now wife Jane in sufficient victualls and cloths during our naturall Lives". He bequeathed one yearling heifer to his son John Bird. (Wills & Etc 1692-1715, part 1, p. 166)..² Edward died before 3 August 1697 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated..² At the time Edward Bird wrote his will, "sons in law" were usually step sons. Edward Bird had likely married William Rodgers' widowed mother as his second wife. However, William Rodgers could have been his actual son-in-law also. Jane Bird and Bridget Bird both proved the will of John Spiers in 1693 (Wills. C 1692-1715, p 36). Bridget Bird could have been Edward Bird's daughter, who later married William Rodgers. William Rogers wrote his will in 1724 (Deeds Wills 1729-1737, p. 154). He named no wife, but made his only daughter, Bridget Rogers, the executrix of his estate. Bridget Bird could also have been Edward Bird's daughter-in-law, the wife of his son, John Bird. The records suggest, without proof, that either Edward Bird's first wife or his son John's wife, was a daughter of William Ebourne. William Ebourne was named as a headright for Mr. John Browne, when he patented land in upper Northampton County in 1652 (Nugent, p. 267). William Ebourne and Margaret Ebourne (apparently a first wife) gave depositions in Accomack County on 17 April 1665 (Deeds & Wills 1663-1666, p. 96). At this time William Ebourne gave his age as "thirty-two years or thereabouts". Margaret was twenty-five. William Ebourne had died intestate in Accomack County, by 14 September 1677, when Thomas Chapwell was named to administer his estate (Orders 1616-1678, p. 63). On the same date, Mary Chapwell, wife of Thomas Chapwell, asked the Court for guardianship of Sara Ebourne, the daughter of her former husband, William Ebourne, who was under eighteen years of age (p. 62). William Ebourne and his wife Mary had given depositions on 13 February 1672/3 (Orders Wills & C 1671-1673, p. 163). Sara Ebourne likely married John Spiers, since he named Sarah as his wife in his will, and Jane Bird and Bridget Bird (who proved the will) would have been Sarah's sister's husband's second wife and her niece or her nephew's wife, respectively. With the death of William Ebourne in 1677, the Ebourne name disappeared from Accomack County records, except as a given name in the Bird line. On 4 May 1708, a Margrett Bird, "late servant to William Boggs", brought a suit against Boggs for refusing "to pay her or give her corn or money as ye law directs (Acc Co Orders 1703-1709, p.114). On 8 June 1708, William Boggs was directed by the Court to pay Margrett Bird 15 bushels of Indian Corn and 40 shillings (p. 118). Margrett Bird could have been a daughter of Edward Bird. The only known son of Edward Bird and his first wife, who was likely a daughter of William Ebourne, was John Bird, born circa 1673. The birth date of John Bird has been estimated from tax lists. From 1676 to 1688, Edward Bird had only one tithable. In 1689, he had two. The second male would have been son John Bird, who had passed his sixteenth birthday.

     Rebecca was born circa 1668 at Accomack Co, VA. On 18 Dec 1677 Arthur Frame stated that since the death of Mary, wife of Thomas Chappel, he had taked into his care Rebecca, the daughter of Wm. Eborne dec'd. Frame was granted custody of Rebecca and promised that his future ability allowed it, he would teach Rebecca Eborne to read "as far forth as his own children." Frame paid court costs.² On 17 Jan 1677/78 Arthur Frame declared that Rebecca Eborne, orphan of Wm. Eborne, was committed into his care, but Arthur Robins had administration of Eborne's estate.      Jane was born circa 1655. She married Edward Byrd circa 1690 at Accomack Co, VA.² On 18 Dec 1693 Jane Bird & Bridget Bird proved the verbal will of John Spiers, wife Sarah. (NOTE: They were evidently the wife and daughter of Edward Bird. The assumption is that Jane was either the sister of John Spiers or of his wife Sarah. Since all of Sarah siblings have been located and none of them were named Jane, therefore it is assumed that Jane was a sister to John Spiers.).¹ Jane was named in her husband's will on 12 April 1697 at Accomack Co, VA.²

     William was born circa 1670 at Accomack Co, VA. William was named in his father's will on 23 September 1674 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son William Rogers (underage) in the will of John Rogers..¹ He married Bridget Byrd, daughter of Edward Byrd, circa 1695.² William was named as the executor of a will on 12 April 1697 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date he was named as a son-in-law (step-son?) William Rodgers in the will of Edward Bird, wife Jane. He was named Extr and given my whole estate and he was to maintain me and my now wife Jane Bird during our natural lives..³ He made a will on 8 February 1724 at Accomack Co, VA. To 2 youngest sons Samuel & Henry plantation where I now live. To son Edmund Rogers. To son Richard Rogers 100 acres adjcent the Dry Swamp. To daughter Bridget. To son William Rogers. To son Isaac Rogers. Children residual legatees. Daughter Bridget Exec. Brother Richard Rogers, Capt. John Bagwell & Delight Shield to divide estate. Witt: James Reyliee, John Bagwell, Tabitha Bagwell, Richard Rogers..⁴ He married Yacoboh-Jackcoby (-----) (w/oJnoSpiers&WmRogers before 7 August 1724 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of John Spiers was granted to William Rogers as marrying the widow of John Spiers. Jacob Rogers & Walter Warrington securities. (NOTE: Nottingham shows 7 Oct 1724 & McKey shows 7 Aug 1724.).⁵ On 5 Jan 1724/5 William Rodgers, administrator of the estate of John Spires dec'd presented an inventory of the estate. On this same date, upon the petition of Nathaniel Savage at the last court, the sheriff was ordered to summon Wm. Rodgers and his wife to appear to give security for the legacies that Savage and delivered to Mrs. Rodgers when she was a widow. This was the estate that Wm. Parker, in his will, left to her children, William Spiers, Luke Spiers and Sarah Spiers. After hearing the arguments on both sides, the court ordered William Rodgers and his wife to return to estates to Savage or give "good security" to ensure that legacies would be delivered to the children when they attained the age to receive them.⁶ William died before 3 August 1731 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated..⁴

     John was born in 1663 at Shafston, County Dorset, England.¹ On 19 Jun 1684, John Bird, son of Edward Bird from Shafston (Shaftebury), County Dorset, at age 21, sails from England bound over to a London Merchant by the name of John Bright. The young John Bird is a cordwayner (maker of fine cordovan shoes for the wealthy). He is literate and signs his own name to the papers of indenture. John has £5 in his possession when he sails for Virginia on the ship Booth, commanded by Capt. Peter Pagan. John Bird arrived in Virginia in 1684. It was apparently he in his father's household from 1689 through 1695, the second tithable.¹ John was named in his father's will on 12 April 1697 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son John Bird in the will of Edward Bird, now wife Jane..² He married Ann Ebourne, daughter of William Ebourne and Mary (-----), circa 1700 at Accomack Co, VA. John Bird married circa 1700 or slightly before. The name of his wife has not been proven, but she was possilby an Ebourne, since he named a son Eborn Bird. Ann Ebourne seems to be a possilbe choice.. John bought land on 3 June 1701 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John Bird, planter, bought 200 acres of land at head of Gilford Creek between two Branches" from Griffith Savage for "divers good Causes and valuable Consideration" (Deeds & Etc 1692-1715, part 1, p. 449). John Bird, planter, sold the same land to Abraham Riggs on 5 March 1717/8 (Deeds Wills & c 1115-1729, part 1, p. 49). John Byrd, planter, bought 650 acres of land and marsh on the south side of Cattaile Creek from William Nock, locksmith, on 15 September 1715, for "Divers Good Causes him thereunto Moving: 'but More Especiall for 25,000 pounds of tobacco"(Deeds Wills & c 1715-1729, part 1, p. 16). The deed explains that William Nock had bought the land, as part of 1,050 acres, from George Johnson of Muddy Creek and he (Nock) excepted a road through the land" to my Marsh". The 650 acres extended south of the present village of Mearsville on its western side and the road to the marsh appears to be present route 685. The tract was part of the area formerly called Muddy Creek and portions of the land has belonged to John Bird's descendants until modern times.. He made a will on 26 January 1727/28 at Accomack Co, VA. John Bird, planter, left son Nathaniel Bird "the land whereon he now lives" and the balance of his land and marsh to son Solomon Bird, reserving the right of son Nathaniel to use the marsh for "Ten head of Cattle and one horse Kind." Son Solomon was to have the privilege "to get Timber on any part of my land for his plantation's use" and these sons were not to sell or dispose of any timber on the land. He gave sons Major Bird and Solomon Bird "all the Scotch pladd that is in my house and Sixty yards of Crown Linen and a piece of Irish Linnen Containing Twenty three Yards". Son Nathaniel was given one Iron pott which he now has and Two Cows and Calves. All the remainder of his estate was to be divided between sons Eborn, Daniell, Major and Solomon. Son Nathaniel was named executor. In a codicil, John Bird gave son Nathaniel his "Stillards" and son Major Bird was given "all my Cash of Gold and Silver to remain in the Custody of son Nathaniel untill the said Major shall attain to ye age of Eighteen Years". John Bird signed his will with his mark. (Deeds Wills & Etc 1715-1729, part II, p. 298). No date of probate was given when the will was recorded, but wills directly before and after were both recorded on 5 March 1727/8.. John died in February 1728 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.³ The inventory of John Bird's personal property was made on 3 June 1728 (Deeds Wills & c 1715-1729, part II, p. 347). It is unusual in that a large part consists of materials. He owned "100 yards Brown Linen, 84 yards Virginia Linen, 60 yards Crown Linnen, 5 yards fine Linnen, 4½ yards fine Chex, 18 yards Tieken, and 20 yards Scotch pladd". Additional personal property named was household furnishings, including pewter candlesticks, a pewter tankard, plates, spoons, an old gun, leather for two pair of shoes, some old books and an old Bible. Clothes consisted of a jacket, a pair of "Cloath Britches", a felt hat, worsted stockings, a silk handkerchief and "Virginia Linen shirts". John Bird also owned 700 pounds of tobacco, a horse, hogs, and fowl. It is also unusual that John Bird had no daughters, at least he did not name daughters in his will. It he were a planter with five sons, it seems they would have needed a female in the household. His daughters, if any, could have married before he wrote his will. He could have remarried after his first wife's death but, since he named no wife in the will, this would be only supposition.

     Nathaniel was born circa 1702 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He married Cathern (-----) circa 1720.^2,3 He married Ann (93) Trader, daughter of Littleton (60) Armey Trader (of upper Acc Co) and Ann (-----), circa 1760.⁴ His will of 1780, named his wife as Cathern (Wills 1177-1180, p. 514). Nathaniel Bird heired the eastern portion of his father's land. His personal estate was divided among his children: Charity, wife of Nathaniel Riggen; Sarah Bird; Rachel, wife of Solomon Johnson; Jacob Bird; and Nathaniel Bird (Wills 1780-1784, p. 105). Nathaniel died before 29 February 1780 at Accomack Co, VA.^5,6

     Solomon was born circa 1704 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Solomon was named in his father's will in 1728. Solomon Bird was one of the sons named by John Bird in his will of 1728. He would have been circa 24 years of age when his father died, leaving him "all the remainder of my land and marsh". He heired the western part of his father's land, which included the marshes. Byrds Marsh likely was named for Solomon Bird, who bought other land and marsh in the same area.. He married Ann Bull, daughter of Tobias Bull (II) and Frances (-----), circa 1743. Solomon Bird had married by 29 April 1748, when his wife Ann joined him in deeding land (Deeds 1746-1757, p. 121). His wife was Ann Bull, the daughter of Tobias Bull, who wrote his will on 4 May 1751, naming a daughter as "Ann Bird, Wife of Solomon Bird (Wills 1757-1761, p. 275)..² Solomon Bird, planter, bought 50 acres of marsh and hammocks from Elijah Nock on 29 April 1746, for 12 pounds. The land was located "at the mouth of Cat Tail Creek, bound on the south by said Creek" (Deeds 1737-1746, p. 499). He and wife Ann sold this tract back to Elijah Nock on 29 April 1748 (Deeds 174 6-1767, p. 121). On 14 April 1752, Solomon Bird bought 50 acres from Joseph Bell and wife Comfort, for 62 pounds 1 shilling 6 pence (Deeds 1746-1757, p. 160). He sold this land to Jonathan Mears on 27 September 1784 for 150 pounds (Deeds 1783-1788, p. 160). On 24 September 1754, Solomon Bird, planter, and Ann, his wife, sold to William Beavans, 34 acres land and marsh for 12 pounds 15 shillings. The deed states this was part of a parcel conveyed to Solomon by Thomas Fisher by a deed recorded amongst the "Records in the Secretary's Book of the Colony of Virginia" (Deeds 1746-1757, p. 525). No record has been found of the purchase in Accomack County records. Solomon Bird made two other sales from the land he bought of Thomas Fisher. On 27 July 1777, he sold 25 acres land and marsh to Jacob Bird (Muddy Creek), for 10 pounds (Deeds 1777-1783, p. 30) and on 17 January 1778, he sold 25 additional acres to Nathaniel Bird, Junr for 10 pounds (p. 31). His wife did not join him in signing these deeds, showing she was deceased by 1777. He made a will on 28 September 1784 at Accomack Co, VA. Solomon Byrd sold none of the land his father left him. He wrote his will on 28 September 1784 and it was recorded on 30 November of the same year (Wills 1784-1787, p. 83). He left daughter Esther Bird two slaves and furniture. He gave a bed and a slave to daughter Rebecca Bird. He directed that his still and "one corner cupboard" not be removed from his land. He gave a slave, Derry, his freedom and half his clothes. The other half was to go to Negro Abner. He loaned his land and the balance of his personal property to three daughters, Esther Bird, Rebecca Bird, and Scarbough Bird during their single life. He stipulated that the three daughters "have liberty to sell any part of my estate to live on", also "if either of my said daughters should unlawfully Cohabit or marry then they or either of them shall forfeit their right and Title to that part of my estate lent them". Solomon Bird signed his name to his will, indicating he had been educated. Esther Bird appeared in Court and qualified as executrix.. Solomon died in November 1784.³ Solomon's will was probated on 30 November 1784 at Accomack Co, VA.³ The inventory of Solomon Bird's personal property was taken on 20 May 1785 and returned to Court on 26 February 1788, signed by Esther (her mark) Bird, Solomon Johnson and James Duncan (Wills 1788-1794, p. 22). It included 4 slaves. Livestock consisted of , horses, 22 cattle, 11 hogs, 20 geese, and 11 "Dunghill fowls" (chickens). Household furnishings included 2 beds and furnishings, a maple desk, a corner cupboard, 12 pewter plates, 6 pewter "Basons", a pewter dish, a Delph Dish, a loom, a linnen wheel and a woolen wheel, also a "Sermon Book" and two other books. A number of farm equipment and tools were listed, as was a "Brandy Still" and a "Cyder Mill". Among his clothes was a pair "Spectacles'" and "one pocket Bottle". He had 3 pounds in cash, a bond of Jonathan Mears' for 120 pounds and a "Note of hand of Oliver Bell's five Pounds".
Since Solomon Bird only loaned his property to his daughters, it is evident he knew that according to the law of primogeniture, in effect at that time, his property would eventually go to his oldest son and his heirs. On , April 1792, a survey was made of land of John Upshur of Northampton County, "land lately sold to Mr. Solomon Johnson on head of Cat Tail Creek on the Bayside near Messongo Creek" (Surveyors Record 11, p. 19). The land was bound on the northeast by the remainder of lands of Mr. Upshur, on the northwest by "lands of John Bird late of Solomon" and on the southeast and east by "Cat Tail William Bloxom". Solomon Bird's daughters had sold no land between 1784 and 1792 (they sold none at all) and John Bird had bought no land during the same period. John Bird, owning land in 1792 that had belonged of Solomon Bird, shows Solomon Bird had at least one son and likely others. The 1783 tax list for Accomack County gives the names of Solomon Bird, Senr, John Bird, and Solomon Bird, Junr grouped together.

     Daniel was born circa 1706 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Margaret (-----) circa 1734.³ In 1740 Daniel Bird purchased 125 acres of land on Messongo Creek from George Philbee (Whitelaw, p. 1274). His estate was administered to his widow, Margaret Bird, who made oath that the will of the said Daniel was destroyed as she believes. Middleton Mason and Benjamin Parks were the securities (Acc Orders, 1744-1753, 26 Jun 1751, p. 507). But Susannah Bird brought suit against Margaret and the other hiers. The Court order that depositions filed by Henry Fletcher and William Melson be recorded and the substance thereof be established as the last will and testament of Daniel Bird, deceased, and that the former administration granted on his estate be revoked, and that the defendant, widow of the said testator, be summoned to take upon her the administration of the said estate. Daniel Bird's nuncupative will, probated 29 Mar 1758, specified: To daughter Susannah Bird my land where I now live containing 125 acres. My now wife to have use of same during her widowhood. To my 2 daughters, Mary and Scarburgh. To Solomon Bird. 4 daughters, Rachel Mason, Elizabeth Parks, Mary Bird and Scarburgh Bird. Wife Margaret. Proved by Henry Fletcher and William Melson (Acc Co Wills&c, 1757-1761, p. 39). Daniel died in 1751 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴ Daniel's will was probated on 29 March 1758 at Accomack Co, VA.⁵
