David Garland, containing 1350 acres called the Manner Plantation, & also 521 acres in said county purchased of Mr. John Garland adjcent the said Manner Plantation, all the negroes on the Hungars or Church Neck plantation & on the home plantation To nephew Arthur Upshur, son of my brother John, 370 acres in the County of Lunenburg called the Quarter plantation purchased of Col. Garland. To son Abel Upshur plantation where I now live & all negroes & personal estate not before given. Should my son Abel die without issue male, my son's estates to change, Abel's to go to Littleton & Littleton's to go to Abel's female issue; should both die without male issue their estates not to change. Wife & 2 sons Abel & Littleton Exrs. Witt: John Core, Caleb Harrison, Thomas Teackle. He had evidently sold land to John Young sometime before this date as on this date in the will of John Young, he left his son Solomon plantation I bought of Isaac Williams.2 He married Sophia (-----) circa 1775.3 Isaac was named as administrator of an estate on 29 December 1780 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Joshua Copes was granted to Isaac Williams with Thomas Evans security.4 Isaac was paid for public service during the Revolutionary War in 1781 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as William Williams on a list found in the Archives of the Virginia State Library of Accomack County people who were paid for public service from 1781 to 1783..3 William was named in his father's will in 1788 at Somerset Co, MD. John Williams, the 2nd husband of Esther Taylor, acquired the remaining 5/6 of her brother Elias Taylor part of tract A141 through the medium of General Court deeds. John & Esther continued to live in Maryland and in 1788 John Williams (wife Esther) left to his son William the land where Williams was living on Assawoman Creek. William Williams is known to have been a doctor. When he came to Accomack Co to live is uncertain, but he married Margaret, the daughter of Henry & Scarburgh Custis of tract A94B. The earliest record of his name noted was in 1772 when he and his wife Margaret sold A37A, which she had inherited from her father. Among other children they had Elizabeth who married John Wharton of A121T across the creek. Margart survived the doctor and after her death the land was surveyed in 1820 for a division and showed 585 1/2 acres; 400 1/2 went to George W. Arbuckle and 185 to William H. West in right of his wife Ann C., they being the children of Edward Arbuckle and his wife Anne Williams of A141B. Mount Williams was A141C and the house was shown on a 1820 survey, but it has disappeared since that date.4 William was listed as a head of household in the census of 1800 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William Williams Esq., aged over 45, a head of house hold. Listed with him were 1 male age 10-16, 3 females age 0-10, 1 female age 16-26, 1 female age 26-45, 1 female, age over 45, 1 free Negro and 21 slaves.5 William made a will on 6 March 1801 at Accomack Co, VA. To daughter Elizabeth Wharton all the Negroes & whatever property she has in her possession. To daughter Ann S. Arbuckle … & to her children which she may have by Edward Arbuckle Negroes Levi, Ron, Manny, David & Sall & what other property she may have in her possession. To Negroes Rachel, old Leah, Sinah, Joe, Agnes, Priss, Levin & Elsy their freedom after they arrive to age 21. Temperance Scott should live with my wife as one of the family & if she does not live with the family she is to be paid $20 per year for 5 years. I give unto George & Henry Arbuckle Jr. £12.10s which is their proportion left them by their uncle Henry C. Williams. To Ann C. Bayly £25 which is her proportion given her by her uncle Henry Custis Williams. To wife Margaret Williams the remainder of my property. Wife Margaret Williams Extr. Witt: Thomas T. Taylor, Samuel Holland & Walter Beavans. Codicil: 28 Dec 1802 - I erase the legacy left Ann Williams.6 William died before 29 October 1804 at Accomack Co, VA.2,6
