The estate of Zadock "Monger" was administered to Betsy Monger, with Thomas Monger and George White securities. Elizabeth Monger was named as the administrator of his estate when it was finally settled and recorded on 28 Sep 1807.^3,4

     William was born circa 1765.

     John was born circa 1785 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Mary Byrd, daughter of John W. Byrd Sr. and Mary (-----), on 30 January 1806 at Accomack Co, VA. John Bird was the security on the 1806 Acc Co M.L.B. of John Harmon and Mary Bird..²

     The fact that he inherited Solomon Bird's land shows he was the eldest son. John was born circa 1745 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ On 27 October 1766, Edmund Poulson and Elizabeth Parker, executors of John Parker, sold to John Bird, Ship carpenter, 50 acres of land on Deep Creek, for 33 pounds 5 shillings (Deeds 1751-1770, p. 437). On 25 January 1770, John Bird, Ship Carpenter, and Mary, his wife, sold the same land to Southy East for 35 pounds (p. 675). These deeds show John Bird's trade and that he had married by 1770. He married Mary (-----) circa 1768. The maiden name of this wife has not been found. She could have been a Parker. Mary Bird was deceased by 7 June 1790, when John Bird was issued a bond to marry (2) Esther Ross (MLB 1774-1806, p. 4)..¹ He married Esther Ross on 7 June 1790 at Accomack Co, VA. William S--- was the security on the 1790 Acc Co M.L.B. of John Bird and Esther Ross..² On 1 January 1793, John Bird bought 36 acres of land and marsh from Solomon, Johnson, Senr, "at head of Cat Tail Creek, being part Johnson bought of John Upshur, where said John Bird now lives" (Deeds 1793-1791, p. 60). He paid 27 pounds. It appears John Bird had been living here, at least from 1783, when his name was grouped with Solomon Bird, Senr and Solomon Bird, Junr in the tax list of that year, and continued to live on this land for two more years before moving into his father's home, after the death or marriage of his sister Esther and the marriage of sister Rebecca. He likely became a farmer at this time. The 1800 Federal Census gives John Bird, Senr as head of a household, aged over 45 years. There was one other male in his household, 16 to 26 years of age, and eight females, one of whom was likely his sister Scarbough. He owned four slaves in 1800. In 1810, John Bird, Senr was again over 45 years of age, as was his wife. There were two other males in his household, one under 10 years and one 10 to 16. Two young females were of the same ages, under 10 and between 10 and 16. In 1820, John Bird was again over 45, as was his wife. There were two males aged 16 to 26 in the household, a daughter aged 16 to 26, a daughter aged 25 to 45, and a daughter aged 10 to 16. Other members of the household in 1820 appear to have been a married daughter, aged 26 to 45, her husband aged 26 to 45, with their two children. John Bird was circa 75 years of age in 1820 and would have needed assistance in operating his farm. He still owned four slaves. John Bird's name appeared on two deeds after 1800. On 29 August 1809, John Bird, Senr sold 6 acres to John Bird, Junr for $6 (Deeds 1807-1810, p. 244). On 6 September 1810, John Bird, Senr sold to James (freed by Hall)", a black woman named Broadus, two Negro boys Levi and Ishmal, and a Negro girl Tabby, for 11 pounds (Dist. Court Deeds 1807-1830, p. 161). He made a will on 6 July 1810 at Accomack Co, VA. Bird Bird Sr. named a son Ebourn Bird and a daughter Catherine Bird. The executor was Thorogood Taylor. Witnessess were Crippen Taylor, John Kilmond, Cumfort Young, L.G. Taylor and Samuel H. Holland. At probate on 1 Dec 1829, John W. Bird opposed. John Killman gave oath (Comfort Young and Crippen Taylor being deceased). Thorogood Taylor also testified to the hand writting of Crippen Taylor. Securities for the bond to probate were John W. Bird and Raymond Riley (Acc Co Wills&c, 1828-46, p. 49). John Bird, Senr left all his lands "unto my son Ebourn". He gave this son "one still and tub and worme, one Cyder Mill and Cyder casks also one Gun one Broad as first choce my chist (chest of drawers) one Bade and furniture Suckont choys (second choice)". He left daughter Cathren Bird "all my nigrows" and the balance of his estate. John Bird, Senr's second wife appeared to be living when he wrote his will, and as late as 1820, but he did not name her in the will, nor was she named in the settling of his estate. His two eldest sons were both deceased when the will was probated.. John died in 1829.³ John's will was probated on 1 December 1829 at Accomack Co, VA.³

     Mary was born circa 1745. She married John W. Byrd Sr., son of Solomon Byrd Sr. and Ann Bull, circa 1768. The maiden name of this wife has not been found. She could have been a Parker. Mary Bird was deceased by 7 June 1790, when John Bird was issued a bond to marry (2) Esther Ross (MLB 1774-1806, p. 4)..¹ Mary died before 1790.²

     (-----) was born circa 1850. He married Rachel Crockett, daughter of Planner W. Crockett and Polly Crockett, circa 1870.¹ (-----) died before 1882.²

     Fairy was born on 3 November 1907 at Accomack Co, VA.^2,3 She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She married Grover C. Johnson circa 1935.² Fairy died in 1991.² Her body was interred at Nelson's Cem, MD-VA line, Acc Co, VA.²

     Isaac was born in 1694 at Somerset Co, MD. He deposed on 26 Aug 1740 that he was aged 45 and on 31 Aug 1744 that he was aged 50..² He married Rachael Tomlinson, daughter of Samuel Tomlinson II and Abigail Seward, circa 1722 at Somerset Co, MD.^1,2 Isaac died before 28 September 1751 at Somerset Co, MD.²

     Ann was born circa 1696 at Somerset Co, MD. Anne was placed under the care of her mother and "father-in-law" (step-father) on 6 Jun 1711 in Somerset Co, MD, being demented.²

     Elizabeth was born circa 1698 at Somerset Co, MD.

     Solomon was born circa 1732 at Marumsco, Som Co, MD.¹ He married Elizabeth Litchfield(?) circa 1766 at Somerset Co, MD.^1,2 Solomon died before 26 January 1807 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.^1,2

     Daniel was born on 3 October 1783 at Accomack Co, VA.² Daniel was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1830 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He is listed as Captain Daniel Boston, single and a farmer..³ Daniel was named in his sister's will on 7 November 1846 at Accomack Co, VA. He was named as a brother Daniel Boston and given $1 in the will of Betsy Watts..⁴ Daniel was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Daniel Boston the head of HH#982, a 66 year old farmer with real estate valued at $600. Listed with him were Wm. Marshall, a 23 year old laborer; Pamelia Marshall, age 21; Oscar Marshall, age 9; and Elizabeth Marshall, age 1. Living on one side of him was Henny Marshall, age 43, and on the other side Wm. Knight, age 25. Next to Wm. Knight was Solomon Small and then Henny Bayly, age 46 and with her was Elizabeth Wessells, age 36 and her children Wm. and Susan Wessells. Next to them was Walter Wessells, age 48. He gave land to Henny Marshall's son John William Marshall for his love and affection. John W. Marshall named a son Daniel Boston Marshall..⁵ Daniel died on 20 October 1854 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 71. It is reported that he hanged himself near Messongo, on Beech Ridge, and legend has it that his ghost long haunted the area..¹

     Abraham Marshall was grouped with his brothers in the Acc Co 1784 tax list; Samuel Marshall Jr., Thomas Marshall, Sexes Island; and Sampson Marshall. The 1800 Census lists Abraham Marshall, Sax. Island, as age 26-45 (40). There was a female in his household of the same age and another female age 10-16, indicating he may have married circa 1785 and had a daughter. When Abraham's brother Benjamin bought 30 acres of land on Saxis on 16 Oct 1800, it was bordered on one side by land owned by Abraham Marshall. No record has been found of Abraham buying land, as his name has not been found in the Acc Co deed books at all. If he had been married and had a daughter as indicated by the 1800 Census, both his wife and daughter were apparently deceased by 1805. Abraham was born circa 1760 at Accomack Co, VA.² He made a will at Accomack Co, VA. To brother Benjamin Marshall Sr. the whole of my estate. Benjamin Marshall Sr. Extr. Witt: Thomas Jones, Samuel Wilson & Tabitha Wilson..³ Abraham died before 30 September 1805 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated. Jesse Duncan & Shadrack Taylor securities..³

     Euphamia was born circa 1750.¹ She married Benjamin Marshall Sr., son of Samuel (78) Marshall and Grace Adams, circa 1780.² Euphamia died before 1832.³

     Benjamin Marshall Jr. would have been the male, 10-16 (16) in his father's household in 1800. In 1810 he was the head of a household, age 26-45 (26), with a wife, age 16-26 and a son under 10 and a daughter under 10. He was living near his father, Benjamin Sr., and his uncle Thomas Marshall, apart from the other Bayside Marshall on Saxis Island. He was not listed in 1820. Benjamin was born circa 1784 at Accomack Co, VA.^2,1 He married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Bunting, daughter of George Bunting Sr. and Elizabeth (112) Johnson, on 29 August 1803 at Accomack Co, VA.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1810 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.^4,1 Benjamin died before 1820.⁵

     Betsy Bunting would have been the daughter of George Bunting, who wrote his will on 11 Mar 1808 and it was recorded on 21 Jun 1811. He left a slave named Able to his grandson George Marshall after all my daughter Betsy Marshall's children are raised. It is possible that Benjamin Marshall Jr. and his wife Betsy (Bunting) had other children by 1808, but only 3 showed in the 1810 Census, 2 with them and one must have been the male under 10 with his father Benjamin Sr. Elizabeth was born circa 1785 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Benjamin Marshall Jr., son of Benjamin Marshall Sr. and Euphamia (-----), on 29 August 1803 at Accomack Co, VA.³

     Michael Marshall would have been either the male under 10 living with his father Benjamin Jr. or with his grandfather Benjamin Sr. in the 1810 Census. He was listed as a heir of Benjamin Sr. in 1832. He must have died intestate by 28 Aug 1837, when his widow relinquishing, George H. Dashiell was named to administer his estate. Spencer Drummond and James P. Taylor were Dashiell's securities. Michael was born circa 1807 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Sarah Henderson on 11 July 1832 at Worcester Co, MD.³ Michael died before 1837.⁴

     Nancy Marshall was listed as an heir of Benjamin Marshall Sr. in 1832. She must have been the female under 10 in the househould of Benjamin Marshall Jr. in 1810. William A. Marshall and Elisha J. Whealton were securities on her first marriage and William A. Marshall and John S. Wallop were securities on her second marriage. Since there is no known William Marshall among the Bayside Marshalls living at this time, the Nancy that married Bundick and William Taylor could have been a Seaside Marshall and not the same Nancy mentioned in Benjamin's will. Nancy was born circa 1805 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Bundick Taylor, son of Jeremiah Taylor, on 30 April 1839 at Accomack Co, VA. William A. Marshall and Elisha J. Whealton were the securities on the M.L.B. of Bundick Taylor and Nancy Marshall..^3,4 She married William Taylor on 12 November 1840 at Accomack Co, VA. William A. Marshall & John S. Wallop were the security on the M.L.B. of William Taylor, widower, and Nancy Taylor, widow of Bundick..^4,5

     Revel was born on 27 March 1843 at Accomack Co, VA.² Revel was listed with his mother in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as James Simpson, age 8 in HH#969 heade by Rebecca Simpson, age 77. Also listed was Hetty Simpson, age 28, who was evidently his mother..³ Revel was listed with his mother in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Revel J. Simpson, age 17, in HH#247 headed by Hittie Simpson, age 46..⁴ Revel was listed with another family in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as James R. Simpson, age 17 and farming, in HH#481 headed by Teakle B. Chase, age 31 and farming..⁴ He married Mary A.W. White, daughter of William (of J.) White and Sarah 'Sally' Riggs, on 31 December 1862 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Revel J. Simpson, a 23 year old oysterman, the son of Hetty Simpson and she was shown as Mary White, age 19, the daughter of William White. They were married by George H. Ewell..⁵ Revel was granted a divorce from Mary A.W. White on 9 April 1873 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Elinore 'Ellen' Marshall, daughter of Robert J. Marshall and Elizabeth J. Woods, on 15 July 1873 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Revel J. Simpson, a 33 year old divorced oysterman, the son of Hetty Simpson and she was shown as 'Ellen' Marshall, age 23, daughter of Robt & Eliza Marshall. They were married neard Bethel Church by John E. Bundick..¹ Revel was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1880 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as age 39 and an oysterman, head of HH#508, with a wife Ellen, age 27 and children Alverta, age 6, Charley J., age 2 and Hetty A., age 1..⁶ Revel was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1900 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as R.J. Simpson, age 57, head of HH#492, with a wife Ella, age 46 and children Chas. J., age 22, L.S., age 16, Melissa, age 13, Ernest and Ethel, age 11 each, twins..⁷ Revel died on 3 August 1925 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 82.²

     She was called Mary Jane Wessels in her grandmother Nancy Wessels' will of 1858. Mary was born on 31 January 1848 at Accomack Co, VA. Her tombstone shows 31 Jan 1848 and Dallas Clare Jensen reports family records shows 16 Jan 1847..² Mary was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Mary J. Wessells, age 3 in HH#710 headed by Thomas J. Wessells, a 32 year old farmer..³ Mary was listed with her parents in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Mary Wessels, age 12 in HH#526 headed by Thomas Wessels of J., a 41 year old farmer..⁴ She married Aaron Marshall Jr., son of Aaron Marshall Sr. and Matilda 'Tinny' Fisher, on 8 January 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Mary died on 7 December 1926 at age 78.² Her body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     Sarah was born circa 1846 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.^2,1 Sarah was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Sarah J. Smith, age 4 in HH#1023 headed by Valentine Smith, a 46 year old farmer..² She married Robert L. Bull, son of James W. Bull and Sarah 'Sally' Mears, on 15 January 1865 at Accomack Co, VA. He was a 20 year old famer and she was age 18. They were both born and living in Messongo. They were married at the residence of James Bull by George H. Ewell..¹

     James T. Marshall died of diptheria at age 2. James was born in 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ James died on 9 April 1865 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     Captain Zebadee F. Marshall, whose home was in Guilford, fell overboard from his bateau and drowned last Saturday, 13 Mar 1897, about 2 o'clock, about 3 miles from Marrows Island Lighthouse. He was a clever and popular young man about 35 years of age. His father and his brothers are looking for the body and offering a $30 reward (Father and brother Aaron, Douglas and John M. Marshall of Guilford) (Pen. Ent. 27 Mar 1897). His niece, Ruth Ann (Marshall) (Beckett) Roache, reports that his body may have never been found. Zebra was born circa 1866 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married (-----) Sprague circa 1885. Zebra died on 13 March 1897.³

     Thomas was born circa 1868 at Accomack Co, VA.² Thomas died in 1880 at Accomack Co, VA.³

     Aaron was born in 1869 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Etta Mason, daughter of Zorobabel William 'Wm. B.' Mason II and Anne Elizabeth Young, on 7 December 1902 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Aaron died in 1912.² His body was interred at Parksley, Acc Co, VA.²

     John was born in 1873 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Sallie F. Taylor, daughter of John M. Taylor and Permelia A. Hickman, on 30 December 1897 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ His body was interred at Liberty Cem, Parksley, Acc Co, VA.²

     Flora Bell Marshall's marriage record has not been located to date. Her marriage to Frank R. Justis is based on a daughter, Flora Justis, being named in Aaron Marshall's will and finding Flora B. Justis's tombstone in Parksley Cem., wife of Frank R. Justis. Flora was born on 28 April 1878 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Conflicting evidence states that Flora was born in 1879.² She married Franklin R. Justice on 9 September 1897 at Somerset Co, MD. They were shown as Franklin R. Justice, age 22 and Laura B. Marshall, age 19..³ Flora died in 1946.² Her body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     Eva Jane Marshall's Acc Co birth record shows her as "Eva May" daughter of Aaron and Mary A. Marshall, born 6 Apr 1882. However, her daughter, Ruth Ann, reports that her mother did not have "May" in her name, it was "Eva Jane." Eva was born on 6 April 1882 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ According to conflicting evidence, she married Zorobabel William Mason III on 25 January 1902.² She married Zorobabel William Mason III, son of Zorobabel William 'Wm. B.' Mason II and Anne Elizabeth Young, on 25 January 1903 at Accomack Co, VA.³ Eva died on 18 May 1967 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 85.⁴ Her body was interred at Mason Fm Plot, west of Parksley, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Pearlie Lee Marshall left his entire estate to his widow, Carrie Marshall. Apparently he had no children. Pearly was born on 17 February 1887 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He married Carrie May East on 30 May 1921 at Accomack Co, VA.² Pearly was living in 1921 at Parksley, Acc Co, VA.² Pearly died in 1932.³ His body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.³ Pearly's will was probated on 13 July 1932 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

     Etta was born in 1878 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Aaron Douglas Marshall, son of Aaron Marshall Jr. and Mary Jane Wessells, on 7 December 1902 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Etta died in 1955.² Her body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

Thomas on 31 October 1941 at Dover, DE.² Adella was living in 1947 at Salisbury, Wic Co, MD. Adella died on 19 September 1967 at P.G. Hospital, Salisbury, Wic Co, MD, at age 85.^2,4

     Samuel was born on 19 August 1880 at Somerset Co, MD.² Samuel was living in 1908 at Westover, Somerset Co, MD.³ He married Adella Florence 'Della' Marshall, daughter of Richard Thomas Marshall and Malinda Ambert White, on 30 December 1908 at Somerset Co, MD.³ Samuel died on 22 August 1929 at Hallwood, Acc Co, VA, at age 49. Samuel J. Griffith and W.L. Spencer, both aged 49 years and residences of Messongo, were instantly killed at the PA RR crossing at Hallwood Thursday morning at 5:35 a.m. A Ford touring car, was driven by Mr. Griffith, the owner. Mr. Griffith will be buried at Knight's Cemetery. He was from Westover, MD, and moved to Messongo 20 years ago when he married Miss Adella F. Marshall. Survivors were listed. Sisters included: Mrs. Charles Marks, Mrs. Harold Elfrethy and Mrs. Frank Joynes. Brothers included: G. Roger, Wm. C., Otho C., and Oma A. Griffith (E.S. News, 23 Aug 1929). According to his daughter Malinda, this accident occured at Horsey..⁴ His body was interred at Knight's Cem, Messongo, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     In 1911 Richard Talmage Marshall was the private secretary to the vice-president of the the C. & O. Railway at Johnson City, TN. Mr. James E. Mears, formerly of Acc Co and who wrote Hack's Neck and It's People and was the business manager of the Sullins College and Conservatory of Music, was the best man at Richard's wedding. Later in life Richard was an insurance man and was connected with St. Luke's Hospital in Bristol, VA. Richard was born on 15 November 1885 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Eva Katheryn Reeve on 8 October 1911 at the bride's home, Bristol, TN.³ Richard was living at Bristol, VA. Richard died on 6 October 1947 at Bristol, VA, at age 61.^4,2

     According to Melinda Giffith Ennis, he was call 'Dink' and lived near Marsh Market and had a daughter Yvonne. Ernest was born in 1896.^1,2 He married Mamie Marshall, daughter of Oscar R. Marshall Jr. and Clarenda Wilkerson, on 7 September 1919 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.³ Ernest died in 1956.² His body was interred at Groton's Cem, Hallwood, Acc Co, VA.²

     According to Melinda Giffith Ennis she lived at Nelsonia and had no children. Alice was born in 1886 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Charles L. Mears, son of William T. Mears and Leah (-----), on 15 April 1908 at Accomack Co, VA.³ Alice was living in 1925 at Parksley, Acc Co, VA.¹ Alice died in 1971.² Her body was interred at Fairview Lawn Cem, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.²

     Althea (Harte) Marshall became post mistress at Messongo and continued until the post office closed on 22 Nov 1963 (Acc Co Post Office Department, Record of Appointments, 1832 - 30 Sep 1971, microfilm, E.S.P.L.).      Ada W. (Marshall) Brittingham was listed as an heir of Matilda J. Marshall, sister to Sarah A. (Marshall) Marshall and wife of Debracy Thomas Marshall, brother of Samuel F. Marshall, in 1925. He was shown as Solomon McCready, age 6 months, born in Dec in HH#MT444 headed by Thomas McCready, a 37 year old farmer..⁴ He married Josephine Marshall, daughter of Samuel Franklin Marshall and Sarah A. Marshall, on 20 January 1895 at Mappsville, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Solomon J. McCready, a 22 year old farmer, the son of Thomas & Eliz'th McCready and she was shown as Josephine Marshall, age 22, the daughter of Samuel & Sarah Marshall. They were married by J.L.
