VA to William Duncan of same, for $16, 4-1/2 acres in his actual possession in neighbourhood of Mesongers adj. former land of said William Duncan, Henry Miles, former land of said Taylor, James Duncan Jr. and William Duncan; wit. William Mason, James K. Duncan, James Coal? (Coak?).2 William died in January 1840.3 Administration of William's estate was filed on 27 January 1840 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that James K. Duncan was named to settle the estate of William Duncan. John Custis & Thomas Slocomb were the securities.3 William was named in his brother's will on 7 July 1840 at Accomack Co, VA. James K. Duncan and the brothers and sisters named in his will and at probate are children of a William Duncan is based on the fact that William Duncan had small children in his 1820 household and all the other heads of household in 1820 have been traced and proven. Edmund was born circa 1811 at Accomack Co, VA. He made a will on 26 August 1848 at Accomack Co, VA. While residing at the house of James P. Selby, Edmund C. Duncan made the following nuncupative will. After paying his brother William Duncan $24 which he had in his hands belonging to William Duncan, he desired that the balance of his estate be divided between his brothers William & John Duncan & his friend James P. Selby to be his Extr. The above will was made about 10 O'clock in our presence on Saturday, 26 Aug 1848 & he died the following Sunday at 2 O'clock A. M. Given under our hands this 31 Aug 1848, Outten Tull & Thomas E. Marshall..1 Edmund died on 27 August 1848. Based on his nuncupative will, he died at 2 o'clock A.M. on Sunday morning..1 Edmund's will was probated on 25 December 1848 at Accomack Co, VA. Third - All the fowl to my wife Mary. Fourth - To my wife Mary and my daughter Marye Carlisle Duncan the Model T. Ford automobile or the one we own at my death. All of the foregoing are in lieu of dower. Fifth - If wife Mary declines and prefers to take her dower, then sell the property and distribute the proceeds among my heirs according to law. My heirs being my wife Mary, my daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Sarah Bell, my son Jno. W. Duncan Jr., my daughter Mrs. Annie Kellam Taylor, and my daughter Marye C. Duncan. Sixth - To my son Jno. W. Tenth - The stock of goods and fixtures in store now conducted by Jno W Duncan & Son shall be disposed of and proceeds divided equally between my 4 children, except that one fourth now belongs to my son, leaving ¾ to divide between my 4 children. Eleventh - Any other property, money or accounts which I possess to be divided according to law in such case, except my life insurance all of which is disposed of to my beneficiaries except that of the State life insurance Co of Indiana, which is payable to my estate.
