Elton James Reid's will was written Feb. 3, 1944, and was probated Dec. 7, 1944. He left to his eight grandchildren $200 each. To his daughter Florence he left $500, that is, less than to the others because she had "received larger bequests during her lifetime than my other children." To daughter Blanche Reid Bunn and her husband Pettigrew B. Bunn, he willed his half interest in E. James Reid and Co., which was a general store at Welborne, also known as Big Mill. The executor was Godfrey Child, and the witnesses were Stephen M. Payne and Walter P. Mitchell. The couple was buried at Gunby Presbyterian in Stockton, as were their three children who died young.
