He was shown as son Abel Garrison in the will of Rachel Garrison, sons Abel & George Extrs.3 He married Margaret 'Peggy' Kellam, daughter of Jesse Kellam and Rachel (233) Bagwell, 05 May 1812 (bond) at Accomack Co, VA. Thomas Bagwell & John Snead were the securities on the M.L.B. of Abel Garrison and Peggy Kellam..4 Abel was named as administrator of an estate on 1 May 1821 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Rachel Kellam was granted to Abel Garrison & James Shield with George P. Bagwell & Smith R. Carmine securities.5 On 30 Jan 1826 at the estate settlement of Rachel Kellam that Abel Garrison, Samuel Kellam, James Shield & Jesse Kellam were all to pay $109.27 each.      Joshua was born circa 1780 at Accomack Co, VA.3 Joshua had a guardian named on 1 August 1787 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas Burton, who was by the court appointed guradian to Peggy Burton, Joshua Burton, James Burton & Thomas Burton orphans of Garrison Burton dec'd, who gave William Garrison for his security.4 He was named in an orphan's account in December 1788 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas Burton made oath in court to the 1788 account of Joshua Burton, orphan of Garrission Burton, in the amount of £04.02.3.5 He was named in an orphan's account in 1796 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Thomas Burton reported an orphan's account for Joshua Burton, orphan, including £02.07.0 for 2 1/2 months of schooling and board.3 In Jul 1796 it was ordered in Accomack County Court that the overseers of the poor bind Joshua Burton, orphan of Garrison, to (Nathaniel?) West till lawful age to learn the trade of ship carpenter.6 Joshua was named as administrator of an estate on 25 May 1812 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of John Badger was granted to Joshua Burton with James Stewart & Parker Copes securities.7 He married Margaret Floyd, daughter of William Floyd and Rachel Garrison, on 15 February 1819 at Accomack Co, VA.8 Joshua Burton Sr. died before 27 August 1827 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Joshua Burton was granted to William Burton, widow relinquishing with Alexander McCollom & William P. Custis securities.9

On 11 Jun 1880, he was shown in the Federal Census as William James, 33-year-old head of household #8 along with 24-year-old wife Mary A., eight-year-old son Burleigh, six-year-old son Thomas, five-year-old daughter Cordie, and three-year-old daughter Bessie.3 He died on 7 October 1893 at District No. 2, Acc Co, VA, at age 45. He was shown as Wm. Thomas James who died 7 Oct 1893 in the 2nd District of Typhoid fever at the age of 46 years and 10 months.
