(NOTE: According to Turman, it was dated 21 Sep 1815, but since Ayres Rogers died in 1802, it was most likely 1805.) On 12 Dec 1838 it was recorded that Thomas Elliott of James sold to John G. Joynes, both of Acc Co, for $23, his right, title & interest which he had in the estate of John T. Elliott dec'd, late of N'hamp Co, he being one of the children of Sally Elliott, who was a daughter of Hannah Kelly, who was own aunt to John T. Evidently James Elliott's first marriage was to his first cousin Sally Elliott..4,5 On 15 Feb 1821 James Elliott signed a mortgage to Levin & Thomas Joynes, merchants, for $18.08, gave various items of furniture, etc. as collaterial. He signed with "his X mark." It was witnessed by Aaron Parker, Smith R. Carmine, Edward Finney and John P. Lee.6 On 12 Feb 1824 James Elliott signed a mortgage to Levin S. Joynes. Several notes were mentioned. One note was dated 1 Nov 1820 for $184.70 given by Joynes' wife Elizabeth Phillips pervious to their marriage on which there is a credit of $40.25; another note dated 17 Feb 1821 for $3.00 also given by Elizabeth and a note given by James Elliott to Levin & Thomas Joynes now in possession of Levin S. Joynes dated 5 Aug 1824 for $56.18, along with further sums of money that James Elliott now is or hereafter shall become indebted to Levin S. Joynes. To secure these loans James Elliott assigned his right to the estate of Jno. T. Elliott dec'd, late of Northampton County, now in the hands of Jno. G. Joynes, attorney. James Elliott is one of the legal heirs of Jno. T. Elliott. Signed James "his X mark" Eliott. Witnessed by Smith R. Carmine, Ezekiel Badger, Joseph P. Boggs & Wm. Lee Jr.7 James witnessed a will on 5 March 1825 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that James Elliott, Charles Belote and Caty Phillips witnessed the will of Sacker Edwards. Sacker named sisters Nancy & Sally who were to have his estate after his parents died. (NOTE: Nancy Edwards married George Elliott, who was evidently a brother of James Elliott and Caty Phillips married Thomas Elliott, son of James Elliott.).8 He married Elizabeth Parker, daughter of Robert Parker, on 12 February 1827 at Accomack Co, VA. Wyatt, son of Isma Wyatt Sr. (s/o Joshua) and Sallie (-----), on 27 September 1813 at Accomack Co, VA. Isma Wyatt was the security on the M.L.B. of John B. Wyatt and Sally Wyatt of Wm..1 Sally Wyatt was named in a land cause on 30 August 1814 at Machapungo Creek, Acc Co, VA. That a certain William Wyatt, late of this County, was in his lifetime seized of a tract of land situate near the head of Machapungo Creek, containing 100 acres, and being so seized departed this life intestate about the year 1804; at the time of his death the said William Wyatt left the following children, viz: your oratrix Margaret, who was on the ____ day of ____ married to your orator, William Edmunds, your oratrix Sally, who on the ____ day of Oct. 1813, was married to your orator John Wyatt, your orators Andrew Wyatt & Isma Wyatt and the said Polly Wyatt, &c.4

John was born on 7 September 1808 at Accomack Co, VA.1 He married Sarah Jane Ames, daughter of Benjamin H. Ames and Ann Arlington 'Nancy' Mears, on 31 December 1832 at Accomack Co, VA. William Garrison was the security on the M.L.B. of John B. Mears and Jane Ames..3 He lived at Locust Grove, now the town of Keller. His plantation adjoined the site of the homestead of the first Bartholomew Mears, all of which tract of land Benjamin Mears, his son, was later to acquire. Locust Grove had come into his ownership through his marriage to Sarah Jane Ames, the daughter of Ann Arlington (Mears) Ames, the granddaughter of Wm of John of Wm of Wm of the first Bartholomew Mears. But the Locust Grove property had not been inherited through Sarah Janes grand father William Mears. It was inherited as her share of her mother's Ann Arlington Mears's part fo the property of her first husband Elisha Mears. The land was bought in 1774 and 1798 by Elisha Mears of Wm of Wm of the first Bartholomew Mears. Elisha and Ann Arlington (Mears) Mears had a son Elisha W. Mears, who died without heirs in 1840, and the property acquired by his grandfather Elisha Mears passed to his half brothers and sisters, children of Ann Arlington Mears by her third husband. Sarah Jane Ames was one of the daughters of Ann Arlington Mears (Mears) (Hyslop) Ames by her third husband, Benjamin H. Ames.4 John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Jno. B. Mears of Wm. the head of HH#697, a 41 year old farmer with real estate valued at $4,500. Listed with him were the following Mears: Jane, age 37; Benj. W., a 16 year old student; Elisha W., age 2; Louis, age 9; and Wm., a 25 year old farmer..2 John died on 10 December 1851 at age 43.1 His body was interred at Mears Bur Gr, Keller, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as John B. Mears, the son of William & Bridget (Bull) Mears, who died at the age of 43 years, 3 months and 3 days..1 Administration of John's estate was filed on 29 December 1851 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that David Mears was named to settle the estate of John B. Mears. Zorobabel Mason & William Harmon were securities.5
