Placing this John Mears Sr. with the correct father is difficult. However, many of them already had a known son John or did not name a son John in their will. In this case John Mears, wife Zeller, did not leave a will and this does put a grandfather George Mears in the same line as a son George Mears. John was born before 1775 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He married Nancy Phillips on 10 February 1802 at Accomack Co, VA. George Taylor was the security on the M.L.B. of John Mears and Nancy Phillips..3 John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1820 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Mears, a head of household, age over 45 years (born before 1775). (NOTE: He was the oldest of the 4 John Mears listed.) Listed with him were 1 male, age 10-16; 2 females age 16-26; 1 female over age 45 and no slaves..2 He married Elizabeth 'Betsey' Churn, daughter of William Churn, on 18 March 1826 at Accomack Co, VA. Smith Ashby was the security on the M.L.B. of John Mears Sr., widower, and Elizabeth Wyatt, widow of Thomas..3 John died before 25 April 1838 at Accomack Co, VA.
