James was born on 4 October 1848 at Accomack Co, VA. He was born on his father's farm near Groton Town..4,5 James was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as James C. Justice, age 3 in HH#1057 headed by Teackle Justice, a 50 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,200..1 James was listed with his father in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Edward T. Justice, age 10 in HH#124 headed by Teakle Justice, a 76 year old farmer..6 James was named in his father's will on 30 July 1869 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as son James E. Justice in the will of Teackle Justice..3 He married Elizabeth T. 'Betsy' Satchell, daughter of William Henry Satchell and Eliza Sparrow, on 4 November 1869 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as James Edward Justice, a 22 year old farmer, the son of Teackle & Tabitha Justice and she was shown as Betty Satchell, age 22, the daughter of Henry Satchell. They were married by Montcalm Oldham..2 James was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1870 at Metompkin District, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as James Justice, the head of HH#MT371, a 21 year old farmer with personal property valued at $200. Listed with him were the following Justices: Elizabeth,a 23 year old house keeper; Samuel, a 45 year old farm labor (evidently his brother); Hampton, a 15 year old farm laborer..7 James bought land on 24 December 1883 at New Church, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that James E. Justice bought 100 acres for $600 from Sally E. Slocomb of Worcester County, Maryland (Acc Co Deeds 56, p. 316). The deed states this land was near New Church, bound on the north by the public road to Horntown, on the east by lands belonging to John O. Selby, in the right of his wife Emma, and on the south and southeast by Snead heirs. Sally Slocomb heired this land from her father, Solomon Marshall. These boundaries locate the land as the present H. Robert Tull home farm. Five years later, on 27 Dec 1888, James E. Justice sold these 100 acres to William J. Ardis for $900 (Acc Co Deeds 60, p. 328). (Mr. Charlie Ardis of Cedar Hall Road, Pocomoke City, Maryland, son of William J. Ardis, once told Mary Frances Carey that he was born in the old house that Bob Tull had burned by the New Church Fire Company several years ago.. James was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1900 at Wallops Neck, Acc Co, VA. When James E. Justice left the New Church area, he rented the Dr. Wallop farm in Wallops Neck. The 1900 census shows him as head of household #9, a 53 year old farmer, living on rented land. Living with him are; his wife Elizabeth, son James D., aged 19; son Roy, aged 18; and daughter Bessie, aged 14..5 James bought land on 29 December 1905 at Horntown, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that James E. Justice bought 179 acres of land from Samuel J. Townsend and wife Evaline for $4250 (Acc Co Deeds 84, p. 474). The land was located near Horntown, bordered on the north by lands of James Rowley (Corbin Hall property), on the east by Chincoteague Bay, south by a lot of John Marriner and the public road leading from said Bay to Horntown. There is no evidence that James E. Justice lived on this property, rather, that he was buying it for his youngest son, William Roy Justice. On 11 Jan 1910, James E. Justice bought, from James O. Owen and the heirs of George S. Miles, a one acre lot in Wattsville, containing a store house for $2250 (Acc Co Deeds 95, p. 104). This was the store in which his son, Quincey E. Justice and Mornay Davis did business as partners until Quincey's death in 1927.. James was listed with his son in the census of in 1910 at Accomack Co, VA. The 1910 census shows a son, James D. Justice, as head of household #11. Living with him and his family were his father, James E. Justice, aged 62, without occupation, with his wife Elizabeth. They had then been married 41 years and had had seven children, six of whom were living. The 468 acre farm on which this household was living had been purchased by two of James E. Justice's sons on 17 October 1906 (Acc Co Deeds 86, p.20).
. James died on 26 April 1914 at age 65. According to his obituary in the Peninsula Enterprise (2 May 1914 issue) he was a prosperous farmer and worthy citizen. It speaks of him being a consistent member of Wattsville M.P. Church. Accomack County records indicate he was a dedicated family man. He kept his father's farm going in his young married years and helped his sons get their start in his older years..4 His body was interred at Wattsville Meth Ch Cem, Acc Co, VA.4

John was born circa 1744 at Accomack Co, VA. Evidently Dorman reversed John (197) West and John (524) West. According to Whitelaw (tract A78) the John West who filed suit in 1763 and recovered the land leased by Col. John (2) West in 1689 to Mrs. Frances Cambers was a descendant of John (13) the Younger and in 1792 gave as 150 acres, calling it the Leased Land, to his son-in-law George Poulson. This would be the John West Sr. who named a son-in-law George Poulson in his undated will probated 30 Aug 1805. This John West would have to have been the son of Argoll West, not the son of Jonathan West II.2,3,4 He received land as a gift in 1770 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Jonathan West II gave 2 parcels of tract A77 near Chesconessex Creek to his son John, one of 200 acres of upland at the west end, next to the marsh, and one of 1,000 acres called the Great Marsh, but not to include Tobacco Island. In 1787 Jonathan West left 100 acres more to John, it being east of the 200 acres. In 1801 John West gave his 300 aces and the marsh to his son John Custis West, who moved to N'hamp and in his will of 1817 Jno. C. West directed that his land be sold.1 He married (-----) Custis (Custis?) circa 1775. He married Tabitha Wise, daughter of William Wise and Mary Rogers, on 4 February 1785 at Accomack Co, VA. John Sherlock was the security on the M.L.B. of John West and Tabitha Wise..5 John (524) West P.P. deeded land as a gift on 13 July 1801 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John West, son of Jonathan, deeded to John Custis West, son of the said John part of a certain tract or plantation or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Accomack and Parish of Saint George’s on the north side of Chessconessex Creek and bounded as follows; beginning at a post standing near the said creek and running from thence a north east coarse up to the middle of a large water hole at the head of the north west prong of a deep gut and from thence the same coarse to Tully Wise Esqr’s line then down the said line between the said premises and said Tully Wise’s land to Milby Russell’s land or marsh to the head of Copano Creek from thence up to the said post at the beginning of Chessconessex Creek so as to include all the lands and marshes within the said bounds …. 300 acres more or less… forever from and immediately after the death of the said John West the elder and not before (Accomack County Deeds 1800-1804, p. 151). He deeded land as a gift on 27 February 1818 at Northampton Co, VA. This deed made this 27th of February 1818 between John West of the County of Accomack of the one part and Betsey Leatherbury (wife of John Leatherbury), Cassey Scarborough (wife of George Scarborough), Sukey Stott (widow of Keley Stott) dec’d), Peggy West, Sally Riley (wife of Raymond Riley), Tabby Custis (wife of Henry Custis) & Eliza P. Scarborough, Margaret A. Scarborough, Sarah H. Scarborough, George P. Scarborough, Anne R. Scarborough, Catherine C. Scarborough, Cassey W. Scarborough and Susan T. Scarborough, children of Anne Scarborough dec’d former wife of George Scarborough of the other part. Whereas my son John C. West late of the county of Northampton did by his last will and testament, bearing date the 11th of April 1816 and recorded in the county court of Northampton devise the land which had been conveyed by me to him, at my death to be sold and the money equally divided between his sisters and their heirs, they being at that time all living and whereas my said son was seized and possessed in fee simple of and in other property both real and personal viz; a lot and houses at Franktown in the county of Northampton, stock in trade and other personal property at the same place, which said property was not disposed of by said will and as such by the laws of this Commonwealth descended to me. Now in order to carry into effect what I conceive was the will of my said son respecting said property and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I bear to my aforesaid children and grandchildren and also for the further consideration of one dollar in hand paid, I have given, granted, bargained and released, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and release unto my aforesaid children and grandchildren, parties of the second part to this deed and devisees under the will of my said son, all my right, title and interest in and to all the estate real and personal which descended to me from my said son (N'hamp Co Deed Bk 26, p. 424).
He made a will on 27 March 1826 at Accomack Co, VA. Negroes Joan, Nebb, Charlotte, James, Nathan, Charles, William & Sarah. Son-in-law Capt. Raymond Riley Extr. To grandson John West Stott & John Custis son of Henry & Thomas Riley schooling. Negro Sarah to live with wife as long as she lives. Witt: William L. Martin & Rosey Martin.
