Littleton was born circa 1750 at Lawsonia, Som Co, MD. On 31 Aug 1762 in Somerset Co, MD, Aaron Sterling sold (lease trust) tract call "Barnett"to Southy Whittington and after the death of Aaron, then on behalf of son Littleton Sterling. In 1795 Aaron Sterling left to son Aaron Jr. This was the same tract that was purchased in 1718 by John Sterling with Richard Barnes from James Ward & his wife Mary and Morris Dugan & Sarah his wife, who were sisters of John Sterling, who had inherited it from their father. (NOTE: This proves the line of Littleton, son of Aaron, son of John, son of John.) Also on this same date, Aaron Sterling (trust lease) to Southy Whittingon, after death of Aaron, then on behalf of Littleton Sterling, tracts called "Hazard, Barnett, Johnsons Lott, Frustration & Sterlings Good Luck."3 He married Mary 'Molly' (-----) circa 1774. Molly Sterling's will shows a son Josiah Sterling and Josiah's marriage shows him as a son of Littleton Sterling..4,5 In 1790 in Accomack Co, it was ordered that Littlteton Sterling be exempted from working on the roads.6 "Pleas at the Courthouse. On 20 Jun 1793 came Littleton Sterling by Thomas Evans his attorney. Bill against Samuel Marshall & Solomon Marshall in custody & of a plea of Tresspass Assault & Battery - in 1792 in Accomack Parish with force & armes to wit with Staves and guns made an assault upon the said Littleton Sterling & then & there beat wounded & evilly treated, so that his life was greatly dispaired of & other enormities to him then & there against the peace of the Commonwealth, & to the damage of the said Littleton Sterling of £100 & therefore he bringeth suit & c - - -. A jury trial - Defts are guilty - fined Forty Shillings. On p. 553 of the same record book, exactly same as above, only suit brought by Molly, wife of Littleton Sterling. The assumption here is that the two suits were actually against Samuel & Sampson Marshall, rather than Samuel & Solomon, assuming that the court recorder made an error in the name of Solomon. This is based on there being no record of a Solomon Marshall among the Bayside Marshalls during this period, there being no Samuel Marshall among the Seaside Marshalls of this period & the fact that Samuel & Sampson Marshall were brothers on the Bayside during this period. (Acc Dist Court Complete Record, 1791-1794, p. 551).7 Littleton was named in his father's will on 15 March 1795 at Somerset Co, MD. He was shown as a son Littleton Sterling in the will of Aaron Sterling, wife Mary. He was given the land I have by deed of 31 Aug 1762 between me and Southy Whittington, tract to be held by Southy in trust. (NOTE: This was evidently the tract call "Barnett" which was given to Southy Whittington and after the death of Aaron, then on behalf of son Littleton Sterling. However, a Southy Whittington had married Ann Wishart, daughter of Hannah (Taylor) Wishart, who owned 1/6 of her mother Comfort's share of Saxis Island.).2 Littleton died before 7 June 1799 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Wm. Whittington of Worcester Co, MD sold land on Saxis Island to Benjamin & Samuel Marshall and it was bounded on the south by lands of Littleton Starling dec'd. His widow Molly Sterling was shown as the head of a household on Sax. Isld in the 1800 census..8,9
