Thomas was born circa 1760 at Accomack Co, VA. Thomas was named in his father's will on 23 July 1772 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son Thomas Crippen in the will of Thomas Crippen, wife Anne. He was given a balance of 337 acres..2 Thomas was named in his grandfather's will on 8 June 1780 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a grandson Thomas Crippen in the will of John Kittson, wife Elizabeth. Kittson also named a son-in-law Thomas Crippen..3 He inherited land in 1782 at tract A121, Modest Town, Acc Co, VA. It was in this year that John Kitson left the land west of the seaside road to his wife Elizabeth for life; this must have been a part of the fee-simple land inherited from his father. Elizabeth died two years later, and while no record of a division was found, all of the Kitson land later appeared in the possession of two grandsons, Thomas Crippen Jr. & Thomas Evans.4 He married Susanna (177) Custis, daughter of John (Sea Side) (75) Custis and Esther Savage, on 3 September 1783 at Accomack Co, VA. Richard Mears was the security on the M.L.B. of Thomas Crippen and Susanna Custis..5 Thomas died before 28 March 1786 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Thomas Crippen was granted to John Custis, his father-in-law of Whitelaw's tract A68A. John Parker (Matompkin) security. According to Whitelaw, the heir to the intestate Thomas seems to have been a Sally Crippen, as she appeared for some years in the processioning records as the owner of the land here. According to Whitelaw, this Thomas Crippen died intestate in 1786 and the title to his part of his grandfather John Kitson's land reverted to his mother Sarah Crippen. However, is seems more likely that this Sarah was his daughter..6,7,8
