He was shown as Henry Boggs the head of HH#137, a 35 year old ship carpenter with real estate valued at $2,000. Listed with him were the following Boggs: Betsy, age 25; Arthur, age 6; and Emmie (Emilie on the transcribed version), age 3. Also listed was Susan Parker, age 20, who was evidently his niece..9 He died on 20 August 1858 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 44. Accomack County dead records show him as Henry J. Boggs, who died of unknown causes at the age of 44 years. He was the son of Arthur & Susan Boggs & the husband of Eliz. S. Boggs who gave the information.2,10 Henry was buried at Boggs Place, Cashville, Accomack Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Henry J. Boggs, husband of E.S. & son of Arthur & Susanna Boggs, 26 Jan 1814 - 20 Aug 1858.2 Administration of Henry estate was filed on 30 August 1858 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Henry J. Boggs was granted to William C. Waters with John K. Rodgers & Arthur M. Rodgers securities.11

Mitchell was born on 13 March 1815 at Accomack Co, VA.1 He married Margaret Ann Smith, daughter of John Smith (Craddock) and Elizabeth Ker Scarburgh, on 4 January 1836 at Accomack Co, VA. Levin Rogers and Joseph W. Gibb were securities on the M.L.B. of Mitchell Wellington West and Margaret Ann Smith of John. They were married on 6 Jan 1836..2 Mitchell Wellington West came to Hacks Neck about 1836 and resided on what is now called the "General West Place" which his mother inherited from her father and which had been in the Rogers family since Colonial times. He kept store at Coocheyville, then a part of the Rogers tract. During the 1850's he purchased property near Bobtown, at the head of Pungoteague, a place called the "Warehouse," and kept store there for many years. He was a man of outstanding importance in Accomack county and at one time commanded the militia, so he was called General West. Even in advanced age, he was tall and had a military bearing. His parents, his first wife, his son Otho K., and infant children by his second marriage are buried at the General West Place in Hacks Neck.3 Mitchell was named as the executor of a will on 11 September 1849 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Ellison A. Hopkins, Samuel P. Fisher, M.W. West and W.T. Bell were named as executors of the will of Eliza K. Smith (their mother-in-law)..4 Mitchell was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Mitchell W. West the head of HH#410, a 35 year old merchant with real estate valued at $2,500. Listed with him were the following Wests: Margaret A., age 35; Otho K., age 10; Margaret E., age 8; Hester J., age 5; and Jno. M., age 2. Also listed was Geo. W. Walker, a 21 year old clerk..5 Mitchell reported a death on 2 March 1854 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Mitchel W. West reported the death of his wife Marg't West, who died of dropsy at the age of 39 years..5,6 Mitchell served in the military circa 1855. As a Brigadier General in the Virginia Militia, he commanded the 21st Brigade, a Brigade which General John Cropper initiated and first commanded. He came up through the officer ranks of the Militia, finally, before his promotion to General, serving as Colonel of the 2nd Regiment, John Cropper's old Regiment..7 Mitchell was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Pungoteague PO, St.George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Mitchell M. West the head of HH#809, a 45 year old farmer with real estate valued at $13,750 and personal property valued at $21,700. Listed with him were the following Wests: Margaret E., age 17; Hester, age 15; John W., age 12; and Catharine L., age 8. Also listed was Molly Mason, a 52 year old house keeper with personal property valued at $400; Ellen Bird, age 12 with real estate valued at $500 and personal property valued at $1,200; and Ellen White, a 50 year old school teacher, with personal property valued at $100 and born in MD. His son Otho K. West, a 21 year old merchant was living in HH#823 headed by James P. Wooddie..8 He married Mary Ann Bayly, daughter of Egbert Granerson Bayly and Margaret S. Bull, circa 1869.1,9 Mitchell was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1870 at Locust Mount PO, St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as M.W. West the head of HH#LM653, a retail merchant with real estate valued at $10,000 and personal property valued at $5,000. Listed with him were Mary A. West, a 38 year old house keeper; John West, age 22; Kate S. West, age 17; Mary K. Mason, age 63, with real estate valued at $800 and personal property valued at $400; Mary Heath, a 35 year old black domestic servant; Darkey Mears, a 12 year of female mulatto domestic servant; and Peter Parker, a 50 year old black farm laborer..10 Mitchell was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1880 at Pungoteague Dist, Bay Side, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Mitchell West a 65 year old Merchant and head of household. Listed with him were Mary A. West, a 48 year old wife and keeping house; Margaret S. He was shown as Jacob Edward in the will of William Belote who gave Jacob Edward's children 1/3 part of his estate and all the property I lent to Jacob Edwards to his children.5 On 28 Mar 1833 it was recorded that Jacob Edwards, age 72 and about 9 months, stated he entered the state militia in 1776; he served in a company commanded by Capt. Thomas Copes and afterwards in a company commanded by Capt. Elijah Garrett, attached to a regiment commanded by Col. Southy Simpson. He was stationed most of his time on Folly Creek, East Point on Onancock and on Wachapreague; he marched from Accomack Co. to Somerset Co, MD, to subdue the tories. He believes he was encamped and under arms for two years and six months as a private. He was born in 1760 in Accomack Co.6 Sally Gardner, wife of William, Nancy Elliott, wife of George and John Edwards are the children of Jacob Edwards as mentioned in the will of William Belote, soldier in the Virginia Continental Line in the Rev. War..7 Jacob died on 4 October 1837 at Edgecomb Co, NC. Joacob Edwards was a pensioner of the U.S; he resided in Accomack county until 1834 when he emigrated to North Carolina; it appears by affidavit of J.J.W. Powell, the attending physican and Mr. P. Edwards, that he died in Edgcomb Co, NC, circa 4 Oct 1837 leaving one child, John B. Edwards in that state and one child Sally Gardner formerly Sally Edwards in this state, and no widow. (recorded in Accomack Co, VA, 28 Apr 1851).8
