Gibb shall deliver unto John C. Grinnalds orphan of William Grinnalds dec'd what is due the said orphan when he attains lawful age.4 He married Mary Ann Coleburn, daughter of Richard Coleburn and Peggy Bull, on 24 February 1834 at Accomack Co, VA.5,6 John was listed as a head of household in the census of 1840 at St. Georges Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Grinalds a head of household, age 20-30 (b.c. 1810-1820). Also listed was Asbourn Scott, a 12 year old mulatto.8 John was listed as a head of household in the census of 1870 at Locust Mount, St. Georges Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Grennels the head of HH#LM1130, age 50 with real estate valued at $2,500 & personal property valued at $500. Listed with him were the following Grennels: Mary, age 45; Eliza, age 25 & Southey, age 11. To my wife Mary Ann Grinnalds during her natural life, the whole of my estate both real and personal. After the death of my wife, I loan to my daughters Mary W. Richardson, wife of Joseph A. Richardson, and Elizabeth Gunter, wife of William Samuel Gunter, my real estate east of Custis Neck Road… I loan to my son Southey S. Grinnalds after the demise of my said wife, the residue and remainder of my real estate, and at his decease to his children forever. To my sons John William Grinnalds and James H. Grinnalds and my daughter Jane Susan Bull, wife of Bagwell Bull, the whole of my personal estate after the death of my said wife. Exec. John D. Grant. Wit: George W. Wilkins, William C. Coleburn, William B. Wilkins. Proved 28 Sep 1887. Surety Upshur B. Quinby.10 John died on 4 September 1887 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John C. Grinnalds, who died of dropsy of the heart at the age of 62 years (probably 72). He was the son of Wm. & Sallie Grinnalds, born in Acc Co, a widowed farmer.
