Henry Wright I

M, b. 1645, d. before 16 August 1671
Henry was born in 1645.1 Henry Wright first appeared in Acc Co records in 1667. His name was given twice on 18 Mar of that year, when patents for land were granted to John Walter and to Miles Gray. Henry Wright was named as a headright for both of these men (Acc Co Orders, 1666-1670, p. 20). Apparently Henry Wright was unmarried in 1667, but married soon thereafter, for his name appears on Acc Co Tax lists for 1668, 1669 and 1670 (Acc Co Tithables, 1663-1697, pp. 6/7/9). On 24 Nov 1669, Henry Wright "aged about twenty foure years," gave a deposition in Acc Co Court (Acc Co Orders, 1666-70, p. 161) and, on 16 Dec 1669, "Ann ye wife of Henry Wright" appeared in Court on a charge, "the Sheriff to take ye said Ann into his cufody and yt she their remain until farther order" (Acc Co Orders, 1666-70, p. 166). Henry Wright had died intestate by 16 Aug 1671, for on that date there appeared another Court Order, "Whereas Ann Write hath peticoned to be discharged of her husbands Estate the Court hath Ordered that the Sheriff take possession.... of what he can find of the said Estate: delivering to the Widdow what doth.... belong to herself and her child and the remainder to answer the payments ofye just Credits as farr as itt goe" (Acc Co Orders, Wills &c., 1671-73, p. 17). These early records show that Henry Wright came to Acc Co circa 1667 at 22 years of age, married here by 1668, had an only child, and died by August 1671, circa 26 years of age. His wife was Ann Fowkes, sister to Thomas Fowkes, and she married (2) Roger Miles. This is shown by the will of Thomas Fowkes in 1673 (Acc Co Wills, 1673-76), p. 152), and by the nuncupative will of his widow, Amy Fowkes, in 1678 (Acc Co Wills & Deeds, 1676-90, p. 177). Amy Fowkes directed that her son and executor, William Anderson, raise 1000 pounds of tobacco "out of my estate to be laid out" for the best advantage of Mary Right, daughter of Ann Myles and of Henry Right, deceased. Thomas Fowkes had left "cousin" (meaning niece) Mary Ryte, daughter of his sister, Ann Miles, all his cattle and their increase that had been "formerly in the occupation" of Henry Ryte, deceased. He directed that William Anderson "take care and look after said cattle" until Mary's marriage or "attaining legal age." This was the same Thomas Fowkes, of Pungoteague, in whose tavern the first Acc Co courts had been held, and who purchased land in Parkers Neck from Richard Bundick in 1666, moving his family there circa 1671 (Whitelaw, p. 1132). William Anderson was a son of Amy Fowkes by a former marriage. He became the father of Naomi Anderson, who married Rev. Francis Makemie (The Wright Family of Acc Co, Mary Frances Carey). He gave a deposition on 24 November 1669 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Henry Wright, aged about 24 gave a deposition.1 He married Ann Fooks, daughter of (f/o Thos & Ann) Fooks and (-----) (-----), before 16 December 1669 at Accomack Co, VA.2 Henry died before 16 August 1671 at Accomack Co, VA.

Mary was born circa 1670 at Accomack Co, VA. Mary was named in her uncle's will on 10 September 1673 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as neafew Mary Ryle, daughter of Ann, now Ann Miels, formerly in the possession of Henry Ryle, not in the custody of John Smally, in the will of Thomas Fowkes, wife Amy. (NOTE: Ryle was evidently Right or Wright.).2 On 3 August 1680, William Anderson signed a certificate that "Mrs. Amy ffookes deceased, did by her last will and testament give unto Mary Right the daughter of Ann Myles and of Henry Right, deceased, the value of 1000 pounds of tobacco" (Wills & Deeds 1676 - 1690, p. 219). Anderson was turning over to Roger Myles, Mary's step-father, the value of the tobacco in live stock. She bought land on 18 March 1693 at Accomack Co, VA. On 18 March 1693, Mary Wright bought 200 acres of land "in the wood between Gargaphia and Gilford", from Roger Miles and his wife Ann, for 1800 pounds "Tobacco and Cask" (Wills & Etc 1692-1715, part l, p. 88). Mary Wright had apparently sold her livestock inheritances and was putting their value into land. She married Edward Wright circa 1695. No record of a marriage for Mary Wright has been found. That she had at least two sons, both Wrights, is proved by the land records. She could have married an Edward Wright, who was named as a servant by Amy Fowkes in her will of 1678.. She married William Wright circa 1706. Mary Wright could also have married a William Wright" who was named as a headright for Richard Bundick" when the latter patented 1400 acres in Parkers Neck in 1664 (Nugent I, p. 524).. Mary Wright was named as the mother of a bastard child on 2 June 1708 at Accomack Co, VA. On 2 Jun 1708 in Accomack County Court, Mary Right, who had been presented for having a bastard child, was summoned to this court. When her mother informed the court that Mary was weak and unable to come, they ordered that she appear at the next court.3 Mary died circa 1710. Mary Wright likely died circa 1710, leaving 200 acres of land and three under aged sons..4

Keziah was born circa 1720 at Accomack Co, VA. Keziah was named in her father's will on 3 July 1738 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Keziah Parker (under 21) in the will of Sacker Parker, wife Leah.1 She married Solomon Kellam I, son of Arthur Kellam, circa 1745. There is not direct proof that Solomon Kellam's 1st marriage was to Keziah Parker, or even someone with the given name Keziah. The Accomack County deed book indexes does not show a Solomon Kellam either buying or selling land before 1800, so we could not find a wife releasing her dower rights. However in trying to find why he named a son Sacker there is at least this one scenario (there could be others) that he had married this Keziah Parker. Her father was named Sacker Parker and his mother was Bridget Sacker and she had a brother named Sacker Parker. She also had a sister Sinah Parker, that would have been another candiate for the mother of Sacker Kellem, but Sinah was named as Sinah Parker in the will of her uncle Bayly Johnson in 26 Mar 1761, which was after the birth of Sacker Kellam. As of circa 1750,her married name was Kellam.2
