William J. Marshall was the male aged 10-15 in his father's household in the 1840 Census. His name does not appear in his father's household in 1850, nor has he been found in later Acc Co Census records. The record of his second marriage to Elizabeth A. Lewis in 1872 in Acc Co showed him as a widower, son of Washington and Susan Marshall, and a resident of Northampton Co, VA. He was not listed in the 1850 Northampton Co Census. Captain William Marshall, aged 75, died 15 Nov 1901, at his home at West Point, VA (Pen. Ent., 23 Nov 1901), which would explain why he was not in Acc Co Census records. Most of the information on his descendants was provided by his grandson, James William Marshall, who lived in Urbanna, VA. William was born on 29 January 1827 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He married Rachel Ann Sparrow, daughter of Jacob Sparrow Jr. and Delilah Evans, on 16 September 1848 at Somerset Co, MD.3 He married Elizabeth Ann 'Lizzie' Lewis, daughter of Samuel Absalom Lewis and Elizabeth M. According to the Acc Register of Deaths, Benjamin Marshall died 25 Mar 1887 at age 27. This would put his birth circa 1860. However, the Pen. Ent. of 2 Apr 1887 showed a Frank Marshall son of Mr. James W. Marshall, aged 18 years, died Friday 30th ult., near Sanford. It seems odd that 2 of James' sons would have died so close together and not have been mentioned in the paper or there being two Acc death records. The assumption is that Benjamim and Francis were the same person, being named Benjamin Francis Marshall. The 1860 Census shows a Benjamin and the 1870 Census shows a Francis and not a Benjamin, which would tend to prove this theory. Benjamin was born on 1 October 1859 at Accomack Co, VA.1 He was baptized on 24 June 1860.1 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.2 Benjamin died on 25 March 1887 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA, at age 27.3 Conflicting evidence states that he died on 30 March 1887.4
