In 1708, "Fra: Wainhouse," Thomas Stringer, and Luke Layler witnessed the will of Robert Watson (Acc Co Wills &c., 1692-1715 (xi), p. 462). Also in 1708, Francis Wainhouse Jr. and Stephen Waltham witnessed the will of George Hazlop (Ibid, p. 470). In 1709, Francis Wainhouse, Richard Kellam, William Nicholson and Luke Layler witnessed the will of John Shephard (Ibid, p. 482). In 1717, Franics Wainhouse, Arthur Upshur, John Savage, Arthur Layor and Robert Miliken were named to divide the estate of Simon Foscue (Acc Co Wills, Deeds &c., 1715-1729 vol. i, p. 95).      Richard Bayly II is referred to in Whitelaw as a descendant of Richard Bayly I (bc 1600-1661). There are many references to the name Richard Bayly in Whitelaw. A quick search of Whitelaw indicates that Richard Bayly I (1600-1661) came to Virginia via the Barbadoes in 1640 and married Elizabeth, widow of Henry Weede who died in 1644. They moved from the Henry Weede property (N88) to a part of A18 on the south side of Craddock Creek next to A17, which was Colonel Edmund Scarburgh's property. This was the area were Colonel Edmund's son, Edmund Jr., and Edmund Jr.'s daughter Ursula resided. Richard (II)'s son, Richard Bayly Jr. married Ursula. Richard Bayly II (est. 1645-1728) was married in 1665 to Mary Jones, sister of a Henry Jones and daughter of Mary Harper. He later married Elizabeth, who survived him. He had at least two sons. One was Richard Bayly III, wife Rosana, who had three sons: Edmund Bayly (? -1796), Richard (?-1769) wife Betty, and Henry (?-?). Richard Bayly II's other son was Edmund, to whom he gave 800 acres of land in 1694 (Whitelaw, pg 460, 635-9, 642, 846, 892, 898, 1051). Richard was born circa 1645 at Accomack Co, VA. Richard was named in his father's will on 12 June 1661.² He married Mary Jones before 8 February 1664 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my sister Mary Bayly and he was shown as my brother-in-law Richard Bayly in the will of Henry Jones..^3,4 In the 16 Sep 1679 will of Southy Littleton, Mr. Richard Bayly, along with Thomas Teagle clerk, Col. William Kendall, Maj. Edmond Bowman, Capt. John Robins & Capt. Daniel Jenifer, were named as overseers of my will & to look after the education of my children. Son Bowman was to be kept at Richard Bally's. (Note: It is unclear if Bayly and Bally are the same, but since other children were to be kept by other overseers, it is assumed that Bayly and Bally are the same person.).⁵ Richard witnessed a will on 14 June 1691 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Richard Bally Jr., along with James Alexander, Edward Marten & Tully Robinson, witnessed the will of Mary Scarburgh. (Note: She was the wife of Col. Edmund Scarburgh).⁶ He married Elizabeth Lacy? circa 1695 at Accomack Co, VA.⁷ Richard sold land on 11 February 1725 at Accomack Co, VA. According to the Turman research, it was on this date that Richard Bayly had assigned to Elizabeth Smith and Valentine Smith, her husband for L100 current money a 300 acre tract of land on the south side of Messongo Creek. The land was entailed in that Valentine was to have a life interest if his wife predeceased him. The land was to go to the lawful heirs of their body. Since Elizabeth was not named in the will of said Richard Bayly, the relationsip was not established.      John was born on 6 July 1636 at Cheerystone, Northampton Co, VA. He was sent to live with his uncle Richard Robins in England..¹ He married Esther (10) Littleton, daughter of Col. Nathaniel Littleton and Ann (6) Southey, on 9 January 1663 at Northampton Co, VA.^2,3 On 25 Jun 1663 in N'hamp County, as the apparent heir of his father, he gave consent to a sale of land made by Col. Obedience Robins. On 28 Jun his mother Grace Robins joined him in consent. Capt. John Robins for the great and good services to his own great expense and cost has done his sacred majesty in the late horrid rebellion was appointed sheriff of N'hamp County on 28 Feb 1676/7.⁴ John was named in his nephew's will in February 1676 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my uncle John Robins in the will of George Evelin.⁵ In 1704 Maj. John Robins owned 1180 acres in N'hamp County and 2700 acres in Accomack County.⁴ John died before 28 May 1709. It was on this date that his will was probated. It named 8 children, 7 grandchildren and gave a full description of land and lists of Negroes, cattle, oxen and other possessions..⁴ John's will was probated on 28 May 1709 at Northampton Co, VA.⁶

     Obedience was born on 18 July 1664 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Obedience was named in his uncle's will in February 1676 at Northampton Co, VA.      Grace was born circa 1603 at Brackley, Northamptonshire, England.³ Grace O'Neil came to Virginia in the Diana in 1618 with Sir George Yeardley.⁴ She married Lt. Edward (1) Waters, son of William Waters and Alice Canon, in 1621 at Virginia.⁵ Grace was living in February 1625 at Elizabeth City, VA. She was aged 21 and living with Lieut. Edward Waters at the time of the muster..⁵ As of 1634,her married name was Robins.⁶ She married Col. Obedience Robins (I), son of Richard Robins and Dorothy Goodman, in 1634 at England. He was identified in two N'hamp patents in Mar 1643 as a total of 950 acres. The first of the patents, for 500 acres, divided in 2 parcels, was due by order of the court dated 22 Mar 1638/9 as also for the transportation of 10 persons, among them Robins himself, Mrs. Grace Robins and her daughter Margaret Waters. From these claims for headrights, it would appear that he made a trip to England and while there had married Grace O'Neil, who first husband Edward Waters, was buried there on 22 Aug 1630..⁶ Grace died before 2 March 1682/83 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Capt. John Robins, on behalf of himself, William Cowdry who married mary Robins, and the children of Dorothy Andrews, was granted administration on his father's estate, lately left by their deceased mother, mother-in-law and grandmother..⁷

     Edward was born circa 1584 at England.² He was baptized on 30 November 1589 at Wimondley Magna Parish, Hertfordshire, England.¹ Edward Waters left England in Jun 1609, in the service of Sir. George Somers, accompanying him on the Seaventure, shipwrecked off the coast of the Somers Islands (Bermuda), and was among those who reached Virginia in 1610 in the Patience, built on the islands.¹ He married Grace (1) Neale, daughter of Edmund Neale and Elizabeth (-----), in 1621 at Virginia.³ Edward was living in 1624 at Elizabeth City, VA.² Edward died in August 1630 at England.⁴ His body was interred on 22 August 1630 at Great Hormead, Hertfordshire, England.⁴

     Obedience was born before 26 April 1601 at Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, England. Obedience was living on 21 January 1628 at in Accawmack, Eastern Shore, Virginia

. It was on this date that he was listed as a "chirurgeon" living in Accawmack when he testified before the general Court at James City regarding events in Oct 1627. One of the first commissioners appointed for the county in 1632, he also served as a member of the General Assembly from Accawmack in 1630, 1640 and 1642, and from Northampton in 1642 and twice in 1652 and was sworn a member of the Council on 12 Mar 1655/6 and served until 1660. He owned land in Accawmack before 10 Mar 1637/8 when John Wilkins patented 500 acres toward the land of Obedience Robins, Gentleman..² Obedience Robins probably was of Puritan affinities for in Feb 1633/4 the Rev. William Cotton, minister of the parish, complained to the Accawmack Court that Robins has refused to issue warrants for the minsiter's tithes.³ He married Grace (1) Neale, daughter of Edmund Neale and Elizabeth (-----), in 1634 at England.      Obedience was born circa 1638 at Cheerystone, Northampton Co, VA. Obedience died before 19 March 1682/83 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that an inventory of his estate was made. He was called the younger son, and bequeathed 900 acres in N'hamp County upon the south part of this father's dividend on the seaboard side.²

     Dorothea was born circa 1635 at Cheerystone, Northampton Co, VA. She married Mountjoy (13) Evelyn, son of George (2) Evelyn and Jane Crane, before September 1650 at Northampton Co, VA.² She married Capt. William (2) Andrews (II), son of Lt. Col. William (1) Andrews (I) and Susanna (-----), before 1660 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 Dorothea was named in her son's will in February 1676 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my mother Mrs. Dorothy Andrews in the will of George Evelin.⁵ Dorothea died before 2 March 1682/83. She was living 2 Nov 1682 and deceased by 2 Mar 1682/3..³ Administration of Dorothea's estate was filed on 29 March 1683 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that William Andrews (her son) was named to settle the estate of Dorothea Andrews on behalf of his brothers and sisters.³

     Richard was born circa 1566 at England.¹ He married Dorothy Goodman, daughter of Edward Goodman and Mary Rushall, circa 1595 at England.² Richard died before 19 May 1634 at England.³

     Dorothy was born on 12 September 1570 at Badby, Northamptonshire, England.³ She married Richard Robins, son of Thomas Robins and Elizabeth Palmer, circa 1595 at England.⁴ As of circa 1595,her married name was Robins.⁴ Dorothy died before 20 February 1640/41 at England.⁵

     Edward was born circa 1671 at Northampton Co, VA. Edward was named in his uncle's will in February 1676 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Edward Robins, the son of my uncle John Robins in the will of George Evelin.² He married Elizabeth (-----) circa 1695.³ Edward was named in his uncle's will on 2 May 1696 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as my cousin (meaning nephew) Edward Robins in the will of Bowman Littleton. He was given land on the East side of Popelar Branch.⁴ Edward made a will on 13 February 1720/21 at Accomack Co, VA. Wife Elizabeth 1/2 the benefit of a parcel of land & marsh adjcent my dwelling planta called Little Pasture, also 1/2 my dwelling plantation for life. To daughter Barbara cattle her grandfather John Robins gave her. It was on this date that Mountjoy Evelyn, Gentleman, patented 650 acres in James City County on the south side of the James River, the patent reciting that the land had been purchased of Thomas Grindon by Capt. Geo. Evelyn on 3 Aug 1649, who gave the same to his son Monjoy on 28 Apr 1650..¹ Mountjoy was living on 28 April 1654 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ Mountjoy died before 15 February 1659/60 at Northampton Co, VA. It is likely he had died before 15 Feb 1659/60 and his widow had then remarried for Willam Smart then arranged for the care of his deceased wife's children by Capt. William Andrews and others.      George was born circa 1655 at Northampton Co, VA. He was under age on 22 Apr 1670, when in a suit he was represented by his step-father Maj. William Andrews and was mentioned as the orphan of Mountjoy Evelyn..¹ George made a will in February 1676 at Northampton Co, VA. To my brother William Andrews one mare. To my brother Obedience Andrews one mare. To brother John Andrews my riding horse. To brother Robert Andrews a horse. To my sisters Grace and Susanna Andrews one mare when Grace is 16 and then to be eq. div. To Obedience, Edward, and Littleton Robins the sons of my uncle one heifer apiece. My dear and loving mother Mrs. Dorothy Andrews resid. legatee and extrx. My two uncles (Lt. Col.) Waters and John Robins to oversee. On 18 Oct 1686 his first cousin Bridges Freeman was referred to as his "heir apparent." The laws of inheritance at this time gave preference to a first cousin over a half-brother..¹

     William was born circa 1630. On 30 Dec 1662 Capt. William Andrews deposed that he was aged 30 and upwards, which would put his birth just before 1632..² He married Elizabeth Travellor, daughter of George Travellor and Alicia (-----), on 17 January 1652 at Northampton Co, VA.² On 3 Apr 1655 Lt. William Andrews was appointed sheriff of N'hamp Co.² On 10 Mar 1656/7 he was commissioned justice of N'hamp County, as major of militia, and a member of the House of Burgesses, 1663-64.² He married Dorothea (4) Robins, daughter of Col.      Elizabeth was born circa 1634. Elizabeth was named in her father's will on 3 February 1643 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as a daughter Elizabeth in the will of George Travellor, wife Alice. She was given 200 acres at the seaboard side which was to be deliver to her by my wife Alice when she marries or when 15..² She married Capt. William (2) Andrews (II), son of Lt. Col. William (1) Andrews (I) and Susanna (-----), on 17 January 1652 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     George was born circa 1600. He married Alicia (-----) circa 1625.^1,2 George died before 28 February 1642/43 at Northampton Co, VA.²

     William was born in 1623. William Waters deposed on 30 Dec 1662 that he was aged 39. He lived on the Eastern Shore after his mother's remarriage to Obedience Robins..¹ He married Margaret (-----) in 1650 at Northampton Co, VA. They were married between 28 Apr and 28 Aug 1650. Margaret was the widow of Dr. George Clarke..² William was named as a guardian on 8 July 1654 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that William Waters is appointed guardian to Margaret Neale (orphan and daughter of John Neale dec'd), it being the desire of the mother lately dec'd. The sheriff was ordered to take an account of the orphan's estate in the hands of David Dale father-in-law (step-father) of the orphan.³ He married Dorothy Marriott before 16 June 1665 at Accomack Co, VA.² William was living in 1673.⁴ William was named in his nephew's will in February 1676 at Northampton Co, VA.      Elisheba was born before 1655 at Northampton Co, VA. Elisheba was named in her grandfather's will on 20 February 1655 at Northampton Co, VA. She was named in her grandfather Andrews' will.. On 6 Jun 1655 her father William Andrews gave her a heifer.¹ She married Peter Reverdy (alias Greene) before 1670.¹ Elisheba received land as a gift on 29 January 1677 at Northampton Co, VA. On 29 Jan 1676/7 Elisheba and her husband were given land by her grandmother, Alisha (-----) Travellor Burdette Walker Custis and they sold it the same day..¹

William Andrews first wife was possibly the daughter of Daniel Howard, the predecessor of Marcus Andrews in ownership of 100 acres which Marcus sold in 1720. Although Comfort Haggoman, Wiliam Andrews second wife, had a brother Marcus Haggoman, which might suggest that Marcus Andrews and his brother William Andrews were her children, such a conclusion is precluded by Isaac Andrews', another brother of Marcus and William Andrews, inheritance as heir at law of his niece Elizabeth Andrews, daughter of Nathaniel Andrews, another brother of Marcus and William Andrews..¹ William was named as administrator of an estate on 29 March 1683 at Northampton Co, VA.      Robert was born in 1667 at Northampton Co, VA. He deposed on 2 Apr 1688 that he was aged 21..² Robert was named in his brother's will in February 1676 at Northampton Co, VA.      William was born circa 1635. He married Margaret 'Margery' Cugley, daughter of Daniel Cugley and Hannah 'Ann' Elkington, before 1660.¹

     Henry was born circa 1635. He married Susannah (3) Savage, daughter of Capt. John (2) Savage I and Ann Harmanson, circa 1681.^1,2 Henry died in January 1694.³ Henry's will was probated on 29 January 1694 at Northampton Co, VA.³

     Hamond was born circa 1640. He married Susannah (3) Savage, daughter of Capt. John (2) Savage I and Ann Harmanson, before 1695.¹ Hamond died in 1718.² Hamond's will was probated on 16 December 1718 at Northampton Co, VA.²

     Arthur was born on 25 February 1672 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ He married Esther (12) Robins, daughter of Maj. John (2) Robins and Esther (10) Littleton, circa 1695.¹ Arthur died before 9 August 1720 at Somerset Co, MD.¹

     Grace was born circa 1682 at Northampton Co, VA. Grace was living on 28 July 1691 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Grace Cowdrey was ordered to remain with her half-brother John Savage until she came of age as her father was departing the country..¹ Grace died after 1692 at Northampton Co, VA.¹

     Hillary was born circa 1670. Hillary was named in his father's will on 7 October 1694 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son Hillary Stringer in the will of Capt. Hillary Stringer, Gentleman, wife Mary. He was given the plantation whereon John Northam now lives..¹ He married Grace (13) Robins, daughter of Maj. John (2) Robins and Esther (10) Littleton, circa 1700.² Hillary died in 1722.³ Hillary's will was probated on 10 July 1722 at Northampton Co, VA.²

     Hillary was born circa 1700 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Elishe (19) Harmanson, daughter of George Harmanson and Elizabeth (13) Yeardley, on 23 January 1723 at Northampton Co, VA.² Hillary was named as an heir on 15 November 1737 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Hillary Stringer and given 20 shillings in the will of Susannah Harmanson.³ Hillary died in 1744.⁴ Hillary's will was probated on 10 July 1744 at Northampton Co, VA.⁴

     John was born circa 1702 at Northampton Co, VA. He married Flavia (36) Savage, daughter of Elkington (9) Savage and Winifred 'Winnefret' (-----), circa 1730.² He married Smart (-----) circa 1745 at Northampton Co, VA.³ John died before 9 April 1751 at Northampton Co, VA.⁴

     Anne was born circa 1675 at Northampton Co, VA. In 1691 a cattle mark was recorded for Anne Stringer the daughter of Capt. Hillary Stringer.¹ She married William Willett, son of John Willett and Elizabeth Douglas, circa 1692.² Anne was named in her father's will on 7 October 1694 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Willett (no first name) in the will of Capt. Hillary Stringer, Gentleman, wife Mary..¹ Anne died before 1739.³

     Esther was born circa 1706 at Northampton Co, VA. Esther died before 10 January 1737/38 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that the administration of Esther Stringer was granted to her brother Hillary..¹

     William was born circa 1670.² He married Anne Stringer, daughter of Capt. Hillary Stringer (I) and Mary (-----), circa 1692.³ He made a will on 18 October 1739 at Northampton Co, VA.⁴ William died before October 1740 at Northampton Co, VA.      James was born after 3 December 1702 at Northampton Co, VA. He was not named as a grandchild in the will of Thomas Duparkes, wife Elizbeth, who did name grandchildren Thomas and Rose Gohogan one ewe lamb..² He married Leah Willett, daughter of William Willett and Anne Stringer, circa 1734.^3,1 He married Mary (196) Floyd, daughter of John Floyd II and Ann (66) Wilkins, on 27 September 1755 at Northampton Co, VA. Anne Holt, widow, was the security on the M.L.B. of James Goffigon and Mary Floyd, spinster..⁴ He made a will on 11 December 1761 at Northampton Co, VA. To loving wife Mary as much as she had when I married her, and during her widowhood the use of Negro fellow John. To youngest son Thomas the aforesaid Negro John and £20. To Nathaniel Goffigon 30 acres bought of Douglas Willett. Residual legatees my children Nathaniel Goffigon, Anne Jarvis, Susanna Bishop, Rose Hunt, Mary Goffigon, Elizabeth Goffigon and Sarah Goffigon. My accounts against Anne Jarvis, Susanna Bishop and Rose Hunt to be deducted out of their parts. If son Southy does not distrub in the Negroes, the an equal part, else to have but one shilling. He was shown as a son Nathaniel Goffigon in will of James Goffigon, planter, wife Mary..¹ He married Frances (523) Dunton, daughter of Levin Dunton Sr. and Frances (215) Waterfield, on 19 December 1772 at Northampton Co, VA. Sam'l Aitchison was the security on the M.L.B. of Nathaniel Goffigon and Frances Dunton, daughter of Levin Dunton Sr., who gave consent. They were married 20 Dec 1772, see Bible records..^3,4 Nathaniel died on 31 January 1808 at Northampton Co, VA, at age 61.⁴

     Anne was born circa 1735 at Northampton Co, VA. As of before 1754,her married name was Jarvis.² She married William Jarvis Sr., son of Thomas Jarvis and (-----) (-----), before 1754.² Anne was named in her father's will on 11 December 1761 at Northampton Co, VA.      William was born circa 1730 at Northampton Co, VA.¹ He married Anne Goffigon, daughter of James Goffigon and Leah Willett, before 1754.² He married Sarah (-----) on 26 December 1780 at Northampton Co, VA.^3,4 William was named in his father's will on 6 April 1797 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as son William Jarvis Jr. in the will of William Jarvis Senr, wife Sarah.⁵ William made a will on 6 April 1797 at Northampton Co, VA. To my son William, Jr. the 201 A. plantation whereon he lives adjoining Allington. To my son Thomas the 250 A. plantation whereon he now lives.
