It was on this date that Daniel Jenifer, John Wise Sr., Math: Scarburgh, William Wise & Elizabeth Wise were witnesses to the will of Capt. Mary (-----), widow of John Renny, who married Wm. Anderson in 1678, may have been related to William Shepherd or his wife, as they proved her will in 1703 and when William Shepherd died in 1718 he asked friends Jmes and Naomi, who was Mary (-----)'s step-daughter, to see that my wife is well taken care of during her life. Mary was born circa 1645 at Accomack Co, VA.1 She married John Renny, son of (-----) Renny and (sis|o_Ruth) Smith, circa 1663. It was in this year that John Renny received a patent for tract A159 on Holden's Creek for 500 acres..2,3 She married William Anderson, son of Garrett Anderson I and Amey (-----), in October 1678 at Accomack Co, VA. On 17 Dec 1678 in Accomack Court it was recorded that Mr. Wm. Anderson, who had married Mary (the widow of administratress of Mr. John Reny), proved that Wm. Wallis (dec'd) owed 370 lbs tobacco to Anderson in the right of his wife. Also on this date Mr. William Anderson, who married the widow of John Renny, declared that Renny (during his lifetime) had sold William Wallis (now also deceased) 200 acres on ths south side of the Pokomoke River. Anderson's wife alleged that she had not consented to the sale of her right of dower or thirds and had not signed any relinquishment. Ordered that the sheriff divide the land and give Anderson the thirds in the right of his wife after the next court, when it would be determined if she had relinquished her right or not..4 Mary was named in her husband's will on 23 July 1698 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as wife Mary in the will of William Anderson. She was given the plantation at Accomson for life then to Taylor grandchildren..5 On 4 Oct 1698 in Accomack Court, Mrs. Mary Anderson, widow of Mr. William Anderson, petitioned that in his will Anderson had "no ways trusted her and therein had clipt her of what by law was just right." She asked that the court appoint someone to divide the estate according to law and that Mr. Francis Mackemie and other executors give her a just account; she wanted her full third part. It appeared to the court that Anderson "had abridged her of her just part," so they ordered that Mr. Edmund Custis, Mr. Edward Moore, Mr. George Hope and Mr. Thomas Perry (or any three of them) divide the estate according to law. The executors were to give Mary an account of the estate so she could be possessed of her third.6 She made a will on 12 November 1703 at Accomack Co, VA. In her verbal will, 12 Nov 1703, Mary Anderson, widow of William Anderson, named Betty Makemie, Betty Taylor, and Betty Shepheard's daughter. The relationships were not specified. It was proved by William Shepheard, Elizabeth Shepheard and Sarah Ginn. It was presented by Mr. Francis Makemie..7 Mary died before 7 December 1703 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Mr. Francis Makemie presented the oral will of Mrs. Mary Anderson. It was proved by the oaths of William Shepheard, Elizabeth Shepeard and Sara Ginn..7,8 On 1 Feb 1703/4 Mr. Frances Makemie and Elias Taylor, administrtors of the estate of Mrs. Mary Anderson, deceased, petitione that "there has been some clamor made" concerning the oral will of Mrs. Anderson. As evidence, they presented the depositions of Jane Sallman, Phillis Allmery and Jno. Allmery.9 On 2 Feb 1703/4 Jane Sallman, who had been ordered to appear at this court to receive corporal punishment for having a bastard child, failed to appear. Mr. Francis Makemie appeared and obliged himself to bring Jane to the next court or to pay her fine. Also on this same day William Shipperd obliged himself to save the parish from the cost of supporting the bastard child born to Sarah Ginn; he also agreed to be security for the payment of her fine.10

John was born circa 1625 at Accomack Co, VA. John patented land in 1661 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that the patent on tract A55 was reissued as two patents for 250 acres each to John Reyney who had purchased from Matilda Scarburgh and to John West whom she had married. She was the second daughter of Col. Edmund & Mary Scarburgh. This land was on the north side of Pungoteague Creek near the mouth of the Creek..2 He married Mary (-----) circa 1663. It was in this year that John Renny received a patent for tract A159 on Holden's Creek for 500 acres..3,4 John patented land in 1663 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that John Renny was issued a patent for tract A128 containing 400 acres on the north side of Muddy Creek. The patent was reissued to Renny the next year and the year following he assigned to George Johnson, who in 1699 received a patent in his own name..5 John sold land in 1664 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that John and Mary Renny assigned his half of tract A55 to Alexander Massey, who reassigned to John West. It is probable that Renny had the east half as the little creek separating it from A54 was called Renny's Gut for the next hundred years or more..2 John patented land in 1664 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that John Renny received a patent for tract A159 on Holden's Creek for 500 acres which later became the home and burial site of Rev. Francis Makemie. After his death in 1678, his widow Mary married William Anderson and in 1679 the court awarded the 300 acres left by John Renny to Alexander Massey, as his nearest relative, their mothers having been sisters, but two years later in 1681, Massey sold it to Anderson..4 John sold land in 1674 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that John Renny sold the western 200 acres to William Wallis. There is no local record of the death of Wallis, but in 1679 Nathaniel Wallis, as brother and heir-at-law to William, sold it all to John Sanford, who may have been a brother to Samuel Sanford of tract A152..4 On 20 Aug 1678 in Accomack Court John Renny (attorney Mr. Tho. Clayton) sued Mr. Samuel Sanford, but the court dismissed the suit.6 John died before 17 October 1678 at Accomack Co, VA. Deposition of John Evins aged about 34 years: Evins swore that John Reiny, on his death bed about six days before he died, sent for Evins. When Evins came to him, Reiny asked him to take notice that he gave all his estate, personal and "not personal" to his wife Mary, except for some legacies which she knew in her own breast to deliver faithfully. Evins promised to remember what he said, which he earnestly desired me to do. Signed 17 Oct 167 by John Evenes. Deposition of John Booth, age about 33 years: Sent for at the same time as Jno. Evins. Booth swore he heard Jno. Reiny speak the same words as above. He too was requested by Reiny to remember and take notice of them. Signed 17 Oct 1678 by Jno. (IB) Booth..3,7 On 2 Sep 1679 in Accomack Court - Deposition of Kenutus Bence and Mary Bence, both agee 44 years: They both heard Mr. John Renny say that he and Alexander Massy were own sister's children and all the kindred that he knew had had in this country. Sworn in open court 2 Sep 1679 by Kenutus Bence and Mary his wife. Deposition of Thomas Middleton, aged about 30 years: Said that several times he heard Mr. John Reney (during his life time) say that Alexander Massey was his cousin; they were sisters' children. Sworn in open court 2 Sep 1679 by Tho. Middleton.8
