After Thomas Kelly's death in 1784, a survey showed 180 1/2 acres which were divided, the northwestern half going to Tabitha, the wife of George Clayton Hinman, and the southeastern half to Mary, the wife of William Thornton. John Melson died intestate and was succeeded by a son Solomon, who in 1774 left a home place of 50 acres to his son Isaac and a balance of 60 acres to his son Daniel. Solomon's acquisition of the 50 acres was not noted, nor how it went from Isaac to Daniel, but in a later survey of adjacent land it then belonged to Daniel and formed the northeast corner of this tract just south of the 46 acres of land he had obtained from Thomas Bayly from the east end of A99. The 60 acres part of his land inherited was the southwest corner of the tract, and it was that, as 72 acres by survey, which he traded to Thomas Bayly, which resulted in the latter owning the western half of the tract and Daniel and Smith Melson between them the eastern half.⁹

     Joseph was born circa 1700 at Accomack Co, VA. On 7 Jun 1726 Sabrogh Badger complained to Justice William Burton that she was afraid that Joseph Gunter would beat, wound or "doe her some Bodyly harme." Gunter was bound to keep the peace and for his appearance at this court, but now he appeared and no one came to prosecute.      Rachel was born circa 1700. She married Richard Saunders, son of Richard Saunders and Mary Brotherton (bastard d/o Edw Brotherton & Bridget Savage), circa 1718. As of circa 1718,her married name was Saunders. Rachel was mentioned in a will on 3 September 1721 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Edward Brotherton gave 1/2 his land where I now live, that is the part where Richard Sanders now lives, to Solomon Sanders, son of Richard & Rachell Sanders, his wife.      Keziah was born circa 1722 at Accomack Co, VA. She married John Sparrow before 1759. Keziah was named in her father's will on 29 March 1759 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as my daughter Zeesier Sparrow in the will of Richard Sanders, wife Rachel.¹ Keziah was named in her mother's will on 2 November 1766 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Keziah Sparrow in the will of Rachel Saunders, widow. She also named a son-in-law John Sparrow.²

     John was born circa 1720. He married Keziah Saunders, daughter of Richard Saunders and Rachel (-----), before 1759. John was named in his mother-in-law's will on 2 November 1766 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as my son-in-law John Sparrow in the will of Rachel Saunders, widow. She also named a daughter Keziah Sparrow.¹

     Rodulphus was born circa 1690 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Patience (-----) circa 1730.² Rodulphus was named in his grandmother's will on 30 September 1731 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as my grandson Rodulphus Scott in the will of Elizabeth Lewis, son John Extr.³ He was security on the administration of an estate on 29 January 1744/45 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Peter Fitzgerald was granted to his widow Anne Fitzgerald with Rodolphus Scott & Jacob Badger securities.⁴ He died before 28 July 1747 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Rodolphus Scott was granted to his widow Patience Scott with West Kellam & John Kellam ecurities.²

     James was born circa 1704 at Accomack Co, VA. James was named in his father's will on 1 February 1721 at Accomack Co, VA. She married John Drummond (III), son of John Drummond (II) and Amy Parker, circa 1744 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Sarah was named as an heir on 15 October 1752 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as Sarah Drummond in the will of Tabitha Ingerson and Samuel Ingerson was to pay her 1 lb of wool. (NOTE: The relationship was not explained.).² Sarah was named in her husband's will on 12 October 1779 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that on the petition of Geo. Johnson with his wife Anne, John Young the younger with his wife Comfort and Sarah Littleton (the women being daughters of Edmund Tatham dec'd) it was ordered that Southey Rew, William Young Jr. and John Onions (or two of them) divide the remainder of the personal estate according to the will..²

     James was born circa 1640 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Anne Smith, daughter of Joshua Smith and (-----) (-----), circa 1665.¹ James bought land in 1696 at Accomack Co, VA. In 1696 James Ewell Jr. bought 250 acres of Whitelaw's tract A109, which is south of Guilford and west of Parksley on the south fork of Muddy Creek, from John West and in 1697 he bought 300 acres from William & Dorothy Jarman who later moved to Somerset Co, MD. (NOTE: It is not clear why he was referred to James Ewell Jr., since he appears to be the first and oldest James Ewell in Accomack County.).² He made a will on 7 August 1703 at Accomack Co, VA. To son Mark. To wife Anne all my land & plantation. Daughter Patience Ewell. Daughter Ann Ewell. Son Solomon. Daughter Comfort Tatham. Grandaughter Jane Tatham. Grandau Tabyther Tatham. Son Charles. According to Whitelaw son Mark received the home part of 300 acres, which James had bought from the Jarmans, and which incidentally had been the site of the Jarman home. Son Solomon received the 250 acres which James had bought directly from John West. This Solomon may have been the Colonel Solomon Ewell who became such a large landowner and prominent man in the upper part of the county..^3,4 James died before 5 June 1704 at Accomack Co, VA. He received the home part of 300 acres which James bought from the Jarmans..^1,2 He married Comfort Hope, daughter of Capt. George Hope and Temperance Waddelowe, circa 1710.³ He made a will before 6 June 1727 at Accomack Co, VA. In his will, which was not dated but probated 6 Jun 1727, Mark Ewell named sons James, Mark and George Hope Ewell and daughters Ann, Elizabeth and Sarah Ewell. A wife was mentioned, but not by name.
