Although she was shown as Tabitha C. Hinmon in her father's will and in her husband's will, it appears that she and her children all went by the name Clayton after her husband's death. According to Whitelaw, after she inherited the land from her father Thomas Kelly in 1784, records usually showed her husband George Clayton Hinman as simply George Clayton, but when he died in 1800 he signed his will George C. Hinman. His wife Tabitha survived him, and for reason unknown she and the children all took the name of Clayton, instead of Hinman. Tabitha was born circa 1750 at Accomack Co, VA. She married George Clayton Hinman circa 1774.1 Tabitha was named in her father's will on 23 January 1781 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as daughter Tabitha C. Hinman in the will of Thomas Kelly. She was given 1/2 of my land where I now live & 1/2 of my marsh on Guilford Creek. Kelly named George Clayton Hinman to be the Extr. of his will..1 Tabitha was named in her husband's will on 22 December 1799 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as wife Tabitha Hinmon in the will of George C. Hinmon. Hinmon named his wife Tabitha and son Dennis C. Hinmon Extrs. However, Dennis Clayton (not Dennis Clayton Hinmon) qaulified as Extr. at probate. It seems that Tabitha and Dennis and her other son George all went by the named Clayton after this time..2 She made a will on 9 June 1811 at Accomack Co, VA. Sons Dennis Clayton & George Clayton Extrs. To daughter Tabitha Bell $80. To daughter Mary Clayton $80. My plantation whereon I now live containing 95 acres to my 5 sons Dennis Clayton, George Clayton, Thomas Clayton, John Clayton & Jesse Clayton. If Jesse dies before arriving to age 21 or without issue, then his part to his 4 brothers. To sons Dennis Clayton & George Clayton my land & marsh lying near the mouth of Guilford Creek. Although he was shown as George Clayton Hinmon in his father-in-law's will and in his own will, it appears that his son Dennis, his wife Tabitha and his other son George all went by the name Clayton after his death. According to Whitelaw, after his wife Tabitha inherited the land from her father Thomas Kelly in 1784, records usually showed George Clayton Hinman as simply George Clayton, but when he died in 1800 he signed his will George C. Hinman. His wife Tabitha survived him, and for reason unknown she and the children all took the name of Clayton, instead of Hinman. George was born circa 1750 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Tabitha C. Kelly, daughter of Thomas Kelly and Tabitha Tatham, circa 1774.2 On 23 Jan 1781 he was named as George Clayton Hinman in the will of Thomas Kelly. Hinman was to have a road along Guilford Creek and was to be the Extr. of Kelly's will. Kelly also named a daughter Tabitha C. Hinman.2 He made a will on 22 December 1799 at Accomack Co, VA. George C. Hinmon named a wife Tabitha and a son Dennis C. Hinmon. To wife Tabitha Hinmon all the land I bought of William Young Sr. during her natural life, then to my son Dennis C. Hinmon, he paying the sum now owing on same. Executors were wife Tabitha and son Dennis. Witnesses were Thomas Evans, George Hope Young and Capt. Epheram Vessels..3 George died in January 1800.3 George's will was probated on 27 January 1800 at Accomack Co, VA. Dennis Clayton qualifed. It appears that Dennis and his mother Tabitha and his brother George all went by the name Clayton after this time..3

John was born circa 1700 at Accomack Co, VA. On 5 Mar 1722/3 John Melson was taken in Sheriff custody for fathering the child of Elizabeth Mackwilliams, single woman.2 On 5 Nov 1723 John Melson was to pay John Lewis (Brother-in-law) for witness against Elizabeth Mackwilliams.3 He married Tabitha Onions, daughter of Thomas Onions and Tabitha Ayres, before 2 July 1728 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that a Deed of Gift was given by Thomas Onions and Tabitha his wife, for the love and affection we do bear with John Melson and Tabitha. We give our whole right and title given by Edmund Ayres to Tabitha as may more fully appear by Edmund's will, dated 10 Dec 1718..4 John sold land on 4 January 1732 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John Melson and his wife Tabitha acknowledged their deed to Jacob Dunton. John Melson and Tabitha, his wife, sold to Jacob Dunton for 1200 pounds of tobacco and 61 ½ bushels of corn 60 acres, the 1/5 part of 300 acres divised by Edmund Ayres and to his five daughters, Comfort, Tabitha , Patience, Huldah, and Elizabeth and their heirs, and afterwards conveyed by Thomas Onions and Tabitha, his wife, being the above named Tabitha, daughters of the aforesaid Edmund Ayres to the aforesaid John Melson and Tabitha his wife..5,6 John was named in his father's will on 30 December 1736 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son John Melson and given the land where he now lives known as Hunting Creek containing 50 acres in the will of John Melson, wife Mary..1 John was named in his mother's will on 1 February 1740 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a son John Melson in the will of Mary Melson, widow. He was also named heir at law at probate, meaning he was the oldest son..7 John died before 28 November 1758 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of John Melson was granted to Robert Turnal with William Young security..8 He left land in 1758 at tract A100, south of Parksley, Accomack Co, VA. John Melson died intestate and was succeeded by a son Solomon, who in 1774 left a home place of 50 acres to his son Isaac and a balance of 60 acres to his son Daniel. Solomon's acquisition of the 50 acres was not noted, nor how it went from Isaac to Daniel, but in a later survey of adjacent land it then belonged to Daniel and formed the northeast corner of this tract just south of the 46 acres of land he had obtained from Thomas Bayly from the east end of A99. The 60 acres part of his land inherited was the southwest corner of the tract, and it was that, as 72 acres by survey, which he traded to Thomas Bayly, which resulted in the latter owning the western half of the tract and Daniel and Smith Melson between them the eastern half.9
