Mears, age 19; and John Allen, age 72 and black..5 He served with the Confederate Troops in the War Between the States according to statements made by Pvt. A.J. Lilliston, Co. F. 46th VA Infantry and G.D. Scarburgh, Co. F. 46th VA Infantry.6 He gave land for the railroad station and yards when the Pennsylvania Railroad built the New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk Division, known as the NYP&N, through the Eastern Shore peninsula in 1884. In that year he opened a large general merchandise store in the town he laid out on Mears land - a town that developed with the coming of the railroad. The town was called Edgewood at first, but the name was changed to Keller to honor one of the railroad division men.7 Benjamin died on 2 December 1896 at Locust Grove, Keller, Acc Co, VA, at age 63.
