William was born circa 1760 at Accomack Co, VA. The proof that Thomas James and his wife Sarah Badger are the parents of this William James, wife Patience, is as follows. Through the process of elimination they are one of the few possibilities and they both lived on Whitelaw's tract A64 in the Locustville area on Burton's Branch. Evidently William James, wife Patience, inherited all of his father Thomas James' land upon his intestate death. The land was near Joseph Custis' Mill Dam and neighbors included James Twiford, Tilney Rodgers, James Kellam, John Custis of Joseph, Peter Taylor and James Henry Esquire. The continuity of the land ownership from generation to generation is further proved by the Accomack County Processioners Returns as follows.
