She is survived by 3 children, Margarett White, Betty Fetterman and Victor Evans all of Sanford (Note: Victor Evans was her grandson, the son of her daughter Betty), one brother Paul Martin of Saxis, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ethel was buried at Downing's Cemetery, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.

     According to the 1920 Census, "Louis" Spence, b.c. 1881, was born in Maryland and both of his parents were born in Maryland. Mr. Louis B. Spence died at Saxis on 30 Apr 1934, aged 51, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 5 May 1934). Lewis was born on 17 March 1880 at Smith Island, Som Co, MD.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Zanie F. Crockett, daughter of John S. Crockett and Rachel A. Linton, on 26 July 1903 at Somerset Co, MD.³ Lewis was living in 1928 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Lewis died on 28 April 1934 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 54.² Conflicting evidence states that he died on 30 April 1934.⁵ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

'Rennie' Miles, on 2 February 1957 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD. Mrs. Dola M. Crockett, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Haddaway Spence, of Saxis, married Mr. Jesse Lewis, son of Mrs. Zeddie Lewis and the late Mr. Lewis, of Saxis, on 2 Feb 1957 at the First Baptist Church, Pocomoke City, MD (Pen. Ent., 7 Feb 1957)..⁴ She resided at, at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, in 1994. Mary Dola Spence died on 2 February 1998 at age 96.²

     Melvin was born on 9 February 1907 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ Melvin was living in 1932 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁴ He married Florence Hall, daughter of Henry Cephas Hall Sr. and Elmira McCready, on 19 November 1932 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.⁴ Melvin died on 6 June 1965 at P.G. Elliott was born on 26 August 1916 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Nan Earl Holden circa 1940.³ Cpl. Paige Spence of the US Army is visiting his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Hathaway Spence at Saxis (Pen. Ent., 12 Mar 1943). Elliott was a member of the armed forces serving at US Army, Sgt, World War II.⁴ He married Audrey Mae Jones, daughter of Duran E. 'Tobe' Jones and Carrie R. Taylor, circa 1965.⁵ Elliott died on 3 January 1979 at Veteran's Hosp, Wilmington, DE, at age 62.⁶ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Nan was born on 18 March 1921 at Moultrie, GA.¹ She married Elliott Paige Spence, son of James Hathaway 'Hattaway' Spence and Arinthia A. Linton, circa 1940.² Nan died on 29 September 2002 at age 81.¹ Her body was interred at Arlington Cem, Arlington, VA.¹

     The infant son of Elliott Paige and Arinthia Spence of Saxis died at Memorial Hospital Nassawadox, Wednesday, 28 May 1952. A graveside service was held in Ellis Cemetery, Saxis, Friday, 30 May at 9:30 am by the Rev. Herbert Hall (Pen. Ent., 5 Jun 1952). Naming Arinthia Spence as the mother was an obvious error as Arinthia was Paige's mother. His wife was Nan Earl Holden. Edward was born on 26 May 1952.² Edward died on 29 May 1952.³ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³

     Mrs. Nannie Lee Collins, wife of Robert L. Collins, died at Saxis on 29 Mar 1934, aged 22 years. Her parents were Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Spence of Saxis. Other survivors were her husband, 1 son, 2 sisters and 4 brothers, all of who were named (Pen. Ent., 7 Apr 1934). The funeral was conducted by Rev. Fulcher with burial in the Ellis Cemetery on 1 Apr (E.S. News, 6 Apr 1934). Nannie was born on 9 February 1911 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ Nannie was living in 1933 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Nannie died on 29 March 1934 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 23.² Her body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

     Robert Lee Collins, infant son of Mrs. Robert Lee Collins, died at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Louis Spence, 26 Apr 1934, aged 1 month. He was survived by his father and his grandmothers, Mrs. Jency Collins of Messongo and Mrs. Louis Spence of Saxis (Pen. Ent., 5 May 1934). Robert was born on 25 March 1934.² Robert died on 26 April 1934 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

     Thomas was born in 1866.¹ He married Christine May 'Crissie' Bundick, daughter of George Henry Bundick (I) and Margaret Hester 'Maggie' Satchell, on 10 January 1891 at Worcester Co, MD.² Thomas died in 1918.¹ His body was interred at First Bapt Ch, Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.¹

     Mrs. Lelia Smith Knight, wife of Saten T. Knight of Messongo, died on 2 Jun 1947, aged 64 years, buried at Downing's Cemetery, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 6 Jun 1947). Lelia was born on 28 November 1882 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She married Stratton Thomas 'Staten' Knight, son of Dawson J. Knight Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Hall, on 13 January 1901 at Somerset Co, MD.² Lelia was living in 1931 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.³ Lelia died on 2 June 1947 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA, at age 64.⁴ Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Maria Spence's birth circa 1828 is based on the 1850 Census. However, a marriage record showed her birth as 1834. Her marriage to a Crockett about 1855 is based on her daughter Miranda "Amanda" being listed as a Crockett in the 1860 household of Maria's father John Spence. Maria was in the 1860 household of Robert Marshall, who she married in 1858, with a son James W. Marshall, age 2, and George W. Marshall, age 5 months. The 1931 obituary of this son George W., later referred to as William R. Marshall, listed Amanda Miles as a surviving sister. Amanda Spence, daughter of Maria Spence, married Severn J. Miles in 1874. Maria must have died before 1880 as her husband, Robert Marshall, was listed as a widower. Maria was born circa 1828 at Somerset Co, MD.¹ She married George Linton, son of William Linton and Triffany 'Triffy' Marshall, on 3 April 1849 at Accomack Co, VA.² Maria was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Maria Spense, age 22 and born in VA in HH#799 headed by John Spense, a 51 year old farmer born in MD. This was on Saxis Island..³ She married (-----) Crockett circa 1855.^4,5 She married Robert Marshall, son of John A.      Mrs. Kiziah Northam, wife of John Northam, and the daughter of Capt. John Spencer of Sykes' Island, died recently with a cancer of her breast (Pen. Ent., 7 Feb 1885). Kissiah was born circa 1840 at Accomack Co, VA.² Kissiah was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Kesiah E. Spense, age 10 and born in VA in HH#799 headed by John Spense, a 51 year old farmer born in MD. This was on Saxis Island..² She married John W. Northam Sr., son of John C. Northam and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Northam, on 11 February 1860 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA. He was a 28 year old house carpenter and she was age 20. They were married by E.W. Stickney. John H.      Mr. Frank Fletcher Linton, formerly of Sanford, now of Newport News, died on 7 Feb 1943, aged 42 years, buried at Feddeman Cemetery, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 12 Feb 1943). A native of Saxis and a barber. Services were at the Sanford Methodist Church by Rev. Bryan (E.S. News, 12 Feb 1943). Evidently he was moved from the Feddeman Cemetery as his is now buried at Downing's Cemetery. Frank was born in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ He married Elizabeth M.
