There is a conflict in Acc birth records for Sewell James Linton, one shows 15 Sep 1871 and another shows 15 Sep 1870. Sewell Linton, little son of John Linton, broke his collar bone while playing (Pen. Ent., 21 Feb 1885). Mr. Sewell James Linton died at Saxis on 26 Dec 1942, aged 72 years, survivors, including two wives (Virginia Lewis duaghter of Revel James and Virginia Lewis and Manie Marshall daughter of Louis and Rodell Crockett), were listed (Pen. Ent., 8 Jan 1943). Although his obituary states he was survived by both wives, the tombstone of his first wife, Virginia E., shows she died in 1926. Mr. Sewell James Linton died at his home, he had been ill about 6 months. Services were at the Pilgrim Holiness Church on 27 Dec conducted by Rev. R.F. Bryan, with burial in the family lot.      Rudolph Linton, A.S. of the US Navy, is stationed at Camp Perry, VA. He went in the service 15 May 1944. He is the son of Mrs. Alice Linton of Saxis (Pen. Ent., 16 Jun 1944). Mr. Rudolph Valentino Linton, son of John R. and Alice Linton, died on 29 Apr 1993, aged 68 years. He was born and raised at Saxis and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He died at the Regional Medical Center at Ocala, FL. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 1 May 1993). Mrs. Evelyn Lena Only, wife of Herman Onley, died at her home at Sanford on 1 Nov 1964, aged 71 years.      John Revel Onley's son Herman Onley remembered him as having a brother George Onley and half-brother Smith Onley. After the death of his mother when he was about 4 year olds (probably even younger) he and his brother George were reared by their Aunt Peggy Gaskins. This fits exactly with the will of his Aunt Margaret Taylor who named a nephew John Revell Gaskins Onley and left him all her property. She had been Margaret 'Peggy' Gaskins, before her second marriage to Revel Taylor. Her first marriage was to Revell Gaskins. John was born on 4 April 1842 at Accomack Co, VA. His 1867 marriage record puts his birth at 1843..² John was listed with another family in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. Crosley, in Pocomoke City, MD. Mr. & Mrs. E.T. Daisy were in attendance (Pen. Ent., 14 Dec 1935). Mr. Earl Oscar Marshall Jr., 71, husband of Rosalie Marshall and a resident of Sanford died in Peninsual Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, MD on Wednesday 5 Jun 1996. Born in Belinda he was the son of the late Earl Oscar Marshall Sr. and Marie Drummond Marshall. he was a retired construction supervisor and a member of Hall's Chapel Church of Messongo. Other than his wife, he is survived by one daughter Lavenia Ayres of Sanford, 2 son Terry Lee Marsahll and Earl O. Marshall III, both of Sanford; one sister, Eyvonne Williams of Hallwood; one brother Carlton Marshall of Chesapeake, VA; 6 grandchildren, Kim Thornes, Mark Marshall, Chris Marshall, Terry Lee Marshall Jr., Amber Marshall and Ashley Ayres; 3 great-grandchildren Tommy Thornes, Tyler Thornes and Erica Marshall and several nieces and nephews.      Maylean Linton was born illegitimate. Maline Linton was born 2 years after the death of Lodie Linton, the husband of his mother, Clarinda Thomas Linton. He went under the name "Linton" as his mother never revealed the name of his actual father (Interview with Ella Blanch Linton Bailey, his half-sister, 17 Apr 1993). Maylean was born in 1917 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Maylean was living in 1937 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Maylean died in 1987.² His body was interred at Delaware.²

     John Aaron Linton's birth year is uncertain. Since he was not listed with his parents in the 1860 Census, he must have been born after that time. He is not in the household with his mother Nancy, sister Jane (14) and brother George (17) in 1870. He does appear with his mother Nancy, 49 and widowed, in 1880 when he is shown as 22 and single. In 1900, with his wife Melissa and family, his birth is shown as Jan 1860. In 1910, with his wife Melissa and family, he is 45 (b.c. 1865). In 1920, he is again with his wife Melissa and family, age 49 (b.c. 1871). Based on not being in his parents household in 1860 and being 22 in 1880, it is assumed he was born shortly after the 1860 Census (b.c. 1861). It is unclear where he was in the 1870 Census. Mr. John A. Linton died at Saxis on 30 Jun 1935 (age not listed). Funeral services were conducted by Rev. McKeawn and Walls at the Saxis Methodist Church with burial in the Justice Cemetery, Saxis. Survivors included his wife, 1 daughter, 4 sons, all of who were listed, and 13 grandchildren who were not listed (E.S. News, 5 Jul 1935). Martin and Georgiana Miles, on 7 August 1943 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.⁴ Manie died in April 1980 at age 83.² Her body was interred at Selby Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Alonzo was a member of the armed forces serving at US Army, World War I, France.² Alonzo was employed at as a Oysterman. Last Saturday, Mr. & Mrs. Aaron Linton received a picture of their son, Alonzo, and word the he arrived at Camp Merritt, NJ, on 7 Apr 1919. They had not heard from him since 23 Oct 1818 and only through the War Department, that he had been slightly wounded. He left for France in Mar 1918 (Acc News, 18 Apr 1919). Mr. Lonzo Linton, a waterman of Saxis and a World War I veteran, died on 20 Sep 1960, aged 67 years. He was the son of John Aaron adn Malissa Thomsa Linton. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 22 Sep 1960). Alonzo was born in 1893 at Accomack Co, VA.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Alonzo was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁴ He married Stella Thomas on 25 February 1922 at Westover, Somerset Co, MD.⁵ Alonzo died on 20 September 1960.⁶ His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.³

Vernon, Somerset Co, MD.⁴ Clarence was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁵ Clarence died in April 1974 at age 81.² His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     Howard was born on 18 August 1924 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Pvt. Howard Shelton (Chelton) of the US Army who is stationed in New Cumberland, PA, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lee Shelton (Chelton) of Saxis (Pen. Ent., 18 Aug 1944). Howard F. Chelton, aged 69 years, husband of Dorothy Lewis Chelton and a lifelong resident of Saxis, died at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, MD, on Monday, 11 Jul 1994. Born and reared on Saxis, Mr Chelton was the son of the late Lee Chelton Sr. and Corbie Linton Chelton. He was a waterman, a member of the Saxis United Methodist Church, and a WWII veteran. Graveside services were held at Downing Cemetery, Oak Hall, on Wednesday, 13 Jul 1994, conducted by the Rev. Bob Cooper and Rev. Leon Ellis. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 16 Jul 1994). Howard was a member of the armed forces serving at US Army, World War II.¹ Howard was living in 1957.³ Howard died on 11 July 1994 at P.G. Hospital, Salisbury, Wic Co, MD, at age 69.^4,2 His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁴

Born and reared on Saxis, she was the daughter of the late Richard Evans and Minnie Linton Evans. She was a homemaker and a protestant. She is survived by a son, Lester Brooks Linton of Pocomoke, MD; 4 grand-children, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nehes. Her body was interred on 2 September 1995.⁵

Mr. Decatur Ross Linton, a retired waterman, died at his home at Saxis on 18 Sep 1962, aged 72 years. He was the son of the late Thomas H. and Ellen H. In 1900 he was with William Martin, his father-in-law. The temporay marker at his grave shows "Henry L. Linton Sr." However, his wife's obituary in 1938 also referred to him as "William Henry Linton." William was born on 20 April 1880 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ He married Rosa C. 'Rosie' Martin, daughter of William T.
