Listed with him was Sarah Ewell, age 38 & born in VA.² Samuel was listed as a head of household in the census of 1860 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Sam'l Ewell the head of HH#362, a 38 year old oysterman. Listed with him was Sally Fletcher, age 8; Sally Ewell, age 45; and Mary A. Ewell, age 9. He was listed between John T. Lewis and Jesse T. Miles.³ Samuel was listed as a head of household in the census of 1870 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Samuel Ewell the head of HH#383, a 55 year old oysterman.      Mr. Thomas H. Linton died at Saxis on 3 Mar 1938, aged 85 years, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 11 Mar 1938). Thomas was born circa 1855 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1870 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He married Ellen H. 'Ella' Marshall, daughter of Denard Marshall and Elizabeth J. Spence, on 12 September 1875 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ Thomas died on 3 March 1938 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Ellen was living at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Ellen H. "Ella" (Marshall) Linton was reported as having 2 childern born and 2 children living in 1900 and as having 5 born and 3 living in 1910. Ellen H. Linton, aged 75 years and wife of Thomas H. Linton, died at home at Saxis on 30 Nov 1927, following a stroke of paralysis 10 days ago. Services were at the Methodist Churh and survivors were listed (E.S. News, 2 Dec 1927). Mrs. Ellen H. Linton of Saxis, VA, died on 30 Nov 1927, aged 75 years (Pen. Ent., 6 Dec 1962 - 35 years ago). She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.³ Ellen was born circa 1851 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.³ She married Thomas H. Linton, son of Stephen W. Linton and Mary (-----), on 12 September 1875 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Ellen was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Ellen died on 30 November 1927 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² Her body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Denard Marshall is assumed to be the 15-20 year old in Aaron's household in the 1840 Census. While no record has been found stating that Dennard Marshall was a son of Aaron and Matilda, he, a farmer age 26, and his family were living only 2 households from Aaron in 1850 and he named a daughter Matilda. Other Marshalls living nearby have their lines complete. The most concrete evidence indicating that Dennard was a son of Aaron and Matilda is a deed dated 4 Sep 1852, showing Dennard Marshall and wife Elizabeth J. joining Matilda Marshall (assumed to be his mother) in selling 3 acres on Saxis Island to William Linton for $140 (Acc Deeds 1851-53, p. 518). On 7 May 1853, Dennard Marshall and his wife Elizabeth J., sold 5 acres on Saxes Island for $275 to Thomas E. Marshall (assumed to be his brother). It was bounded on the North by William Linton, on the East by the Sanford Charity, on the South by Zachariah Marshall, and on the West by the Pocomoke Sound (Acc Deeds No. 39, 1853-1855, p. 5). On 23 Jun 1854, Dennard Marshall bought 33 acres on Saxes Island from John Spence and his wife Leah Ann (they were the parents of his wife Elizabeth J.). The amount of the sale is not clear, but one slave and personal property were also included (Acc Deeds No. 39, 1853-1855, p. 319). "Dennard" Marshall died intestate by 30 Mar 1863, when William S. Byrd was named to administer his estate. John T. Lewis, Absalom Lewis, Parker Miles and Revel J. Lewis were to appraise his personal estate (Acc Orders 1862-65, p. 41). Further proof of his children is based on Acc Deeds 1876-77, p. 128, dated 21 Feb 1876, wherein James Brindle Marshall from Corbin Thomas and wife Sarah, Alonzo Thomas and wife Jane, Avera J. Ellis and wife Margaret E., Thomas H. Linton and wife Ellen H., Josephus Cutler and wife Matilda, Elizabeth Marshall and Julia Marshall, all of Saxis Island - land they heired from their father, Dennard Marshall, subject to Elizabeth Marshall's thirds (widow of Dennard Marshall) - 1 3/4 acres on Saxis Island. He is buried in the Ellis Cemetery on Saxis, but the dates on the tombstone are too faint to read. Denard was born in 1824 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.^2,3 He married Elizabeth J. Spence, daughter of John Spence and Leah Anna Handy Guy, circa 1846.⁴ Denard was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Denard Marshall the head of HH#800, a 26 year old farmer with real estate valued at $200. Listed with him were the following Marshalls: Elizabeth J., age 27; Martha J., age 3; Sarah W., age 1; Margaret E., age 2/12. This was on Saxis Island..² Denard was named in a deed in on 4 September 1852 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Denard died on 8 January 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.³ Denard was buried at Ellis Cemetery, Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as Denard Marshall who died 8 Jan 1863, aged 39 years.³ Denard's will was probated on 30 March 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.⁶

     A marriage record has not been found for Denard Marshall and Elizabeth J. Spence, but Elizabeth Marshall, widow of Dennard, died on 31 Aug 1883 at age 63. The death record states that she was a daughter of John and Ann Spence. In the 1880 Census she was widowed and living with John H. Justice, also widowed. She was listed as his sister-in-law, meaning she was a sister to his wife Mary also a daughter of John Spence. Also, Denard and Elizabeth Marshall where listed next to John Spence in the 1850 Census. Elizabeth was born circa 1823 at Accomack Co, VA.² She married Denard Marshall, son of Aaron Marshall Sr. and Matilda 'Tinny' Fisher, circa 1846.³ Elizabeth was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Elizabeth J. Marshall, age 27 in HH#800 headed by Denard Marshall, a 26 year old farmer.      Andrew Linton, youngest son of Mr. & Mrs. Sewell Linton, died at Saxis on 2 Feb 1917. He was accidentally shot in the face by an arrow during Christmas. This later developed into pneumonia, causing death. He was survived by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister (Acc News, 16 Feb 1917). Andrew was born on 24 November 1902 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Andrew died on 2 February 1917 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 14.³ His body was interred at Linton South Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

     Mary was born circa 1841 at Accomack Co, VA.² Mary was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Mary J. Ayres, age 9 in HH#1127 headed by James Ayres, a 33 year old farmer..² She married James H. Landing, son of James Landing and Sarah Ann Parks, on 15 November 1859 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as James H. Landing and she was shown as Mary Jane Ayres, the daughter of James Ayres, who gave consent. James M. Justice, age 1/12 in HH#799 headed by John Spense, a 51 year year old farmer. She was listed just below John H. Justice, a 21 year old laborer and Mary A. Justice, age 20, who were her parents.      John was born in January 1828 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Mary Adeline Spence, daughter of John Spence and Leah Anna Handy Guy, on 6 June 1849 at Accomack Co, VA. Gillet Marshall was the security on the M.L.B. of John H. Justice and Adeline Spence of John. One record shows 6 June and the other shows 26 June 1849..^3,4 John Henry Justice was listed with his father-in-law in the census of 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁵ In a deed dated 8 Jul 1854, John H. Justice, bought from Dennard Marshall and Elizabeth his wife and John Spence, 2 acres of land on Saxes Island, bounded on the North by John Spence, East by John Spence, South by George Crockett, and West by Pocomoke Sound (Acc Deeds No. 39, 1853-1855, p. 359). In a deed dated 29 June 1877, he was listed as John Henry Justice, Senior (Acc Deeds No. 51, p. 159). John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John H. Justice the head of HH#366, a 32 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $200 and personal property valued at $150..⁶ John reported a death on 22 May 1875 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that John H. Justice reported the death of his wife Mary A. Justice, who died of consumption at the age of 44 years and 11 months..⁷ He married Mary Adis Crockett, daughter of George Crockett and Sinah D. Evans, on 27 February 1881 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA. He was a 52 year old oysterman and she was age 45. They were married at Sykes Island by R.B. Beadles..¹ John was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁸ John died in October 1903 at age 75.⁸ His body was interred at Justice Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁹

     She may have had a sister named Elizabeth, who married a Marshall. The 1880 Census shows an Elizabeth Marshall, widowed, living with John H. Justice, also widowed. It shows that Elizabeth was his sister-in-law. She must have died before 1880, as she was not found in the Acc Co 1880 Census. Mary was born in June 1831 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² She married John Henry Justice, son of Richard (of Wm.) Justice and Easter Lewis, on 6 June 1849 at Accomack Co, VA. Gillet Marshall was the security on the M.L.B. of John H. Justice and Adeline Spence of John.      Peggy was born in December 1871 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Peggy died in September 1872 at First District, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Peggy Linton, who died of heart trouble at the age of 10 months, the daughter of Jas. & Arinthia Linton. Her grandfather John H. Justice gave the information..^1,2

     James was employed at as a Nurse. James W. Linton, age 5, was in the 1880 Saxis HH#339 with his father, James and his step-mother Georgianna. The remains of Wilbur Linton were brought to his home town of Saxis for burial from Sara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, where he died on 5 Apr 1918. For the last 15 to 20 years he served as a trained nurse for the hospital in which he died. He was survived by his father, James Linton and several half-brothers and half-sisters (Acc News, 12 Apr 1918). James was born in April 1873 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² James died on 5 April 1918 at Norfolk, VA.³

     John was born circa 1877 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² John died on 25 September 1881 at Accomack Co, VA.¹

     According to chruch records, Lillie F. (Stant) Anderton was on the Sanford roll in 1898, 1900, 1908 and 1917, her vows were 10 Aug 1904 and she was withdrawn on 11 Jan 1909. She was on the Saxis roll in 1917 and 1927. She removed certificate from Sanford on 12 Nov 1932. Mrs. Lillie Anderton of Saxis, aged 71 years, died 24 Aug 1948 and was buried in the Ellis Cem. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 3 Sep 1948). Lilly was born on 10 December 1878 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Lilly was listed with her parents in the census of in 1880 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as daughter L.F. Stant, age 2 in HH#429 headed by E.T. Stant, a 40 year old oysterman..² She married Isaac Henry Anderton, son of James E.      Luther Linton, age 7, died Wednesday, 8 Nov 1899 of typhoid fever at his home at Saxis (Pen. Ent., 18 Nov 1899). Luther was born in 1892 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ Luther died on 8 November 1899 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Edward was born in January 1894 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA.² He married Sophronia May 'Fronia' Hart, daughter of Thorogood Dennis Hart and Eliza Jane 'Janie' Marshall, on 21 November 1915 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.³ Edward was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁴ Edward died before 1919. Her and her husband John Bailey had no children of their own, but they raised a son, Jack Robinson who married Peggy Taylor and they have 2 or 3 children of their own. According to Church records he transfer from Sanford to Saxis in 1899.      Mr. John W. Linton, a worthy and respected citizen of Saxes, died Monday morning of typhoid fever and was buried on Wednesday (Pen. Ent., 7 Oct 1899). Wessells and Ann Catherine 'Caty' Wessells, on 18 October 1885 at Guilford, Acc Co, VA.⁵ He married Ellen Frances Myers, daughter of Robert Ward Myers and Maria Jane Foster, on 26 October 1887 at Norfolk, VA.⁶ John died on 2 October 1899 at Saxis Island, Acc Co, VA, at age 39.⁷
