William was born circa 1670 at Dorchester Co, MD.1 There is nothing known of William Killman, Thomas' borther, execpt for a recollection of a man of seventy-five named Edward Willoughby, who in 1744 remembered that they were boyhood playmates (Twig and Turf, p. 249). This would put William' birth circa 1670. William died.

Anthony was born circa 1600 at England. Anthony West came to Virginia in the "James," 1622, and in the census, 1623/4, is listed at James City, where he is living at "Mr. Treasuror's Plantation," across the river from Jamestown, 1624/5. At a court held at James City, 12 Dec 1625, Henry Menefre, merchant, testified that Mrs. Rowsley did set Anthony West free and delivered his Indenture to Capt. Sampson to carry into England to his friends. On 9 Jan 1625/6 he testified at a James City court concerning the quality of some tobacco. He is mentioned in Virginia records between 28 Feb 1627/8 and 14 Apr 1628 as having shipped 1380 pounds of tobacco to the port at Dartmouth, England. Subsequently he returned to England, and as Anthony West of Shadwell, chirurgion, he married Anne Huffe. He may be the Anthony West referred to in a York County order, 1644/5, in which a debt of tobacco, incurred by Hercules Bridges, was due and payable to Anthony West in 1644 within five days. He definitely returned with his family to Virginia by 5 Oct 1649, when Anthony West, Ann his wife, John West and Kathe West were named as headrights in a patent issued to Capt. Randall Herle, mariner, for 600 acres in Northampton County on the Great Nusewattock River, from Chingandehee Creeke Mouth unto Arokoko Creeke. His will name his wife Ann and children John and Katherine (Adventurers of Purse and Person, pp. 661-662). William Custis, Lt. Col. Tully Robinson, Maj. George Parke and Capt. John Braudhurst (or any four of them) divide the estate of John West before the next court or as soon as convenient. On 6 Dec 1706 Robert Snead and his wife Mary (one of the daughters of Lt. Col. John West, deceased) exhibited a bill against Matilda West (executrix), who was summons to this court. The sheriff returned a copy of the writ (with the summons on the back) that was left at Matilda's dwelling house. When she did not appear, Snead's attorney (Mr. Andrew Hamelton) requested and was granted an attachment against "ye body of Matilda West" the sheriff was to deep her in safe custody till she posted a bond to appear at the next court. On 5 Feb 1706/7 Robert Snead and his wife Mary (daughter of Lt. Col. John West, deceased) brought an action against Matilda West (executrix of the estate), who was taken into custody on 31 Jan by Sheriff Tully Robinson to ensure her appearance at this court. Matilda refused to put her answer in writing. West had left his "four daughters viz Catherine Mary Ann & Scarburgh each a young slave in the estate. Snead and Matilda West ultimately reached an agreement. Snead would give up his right to Mary's share of cattle, Horses, sheep and household goods. Matilda would have her first choice of the six young slaves (she selected Sarah). Catherine West could have second choice (Bette). Snead would have third choice (Gui). The court ordered Matilda to immediately deliver to Gui to Snead.

Mary, who was given no part of the estate in the will, petitioned for administration as widow in the right of herself and her children. The court granted her this and accepted Col. Tully Robinson, Capt. Jno. Bradhurst and Mr. Robt. Pitt as her security. The will was proved by the oaths of John Lurton and Thomas Lurton.9

John West, (deceased), John Wise (in the right of his wife, Matilda), Jonathan West, Richard Kellam (in right of his wife Farncis), Katherin West, Robert Snead (in right of his wife Mary), Thomas Harding (in right of his wife Scarburgh Harding) the sons and daughters of Col. John West and Matilda, petitioned that the estate be divided according to the will. Since most of the persons desired that John Custis, Exp., be appointed, it was ordered that the and col.
