Bayly..2 He married Evelyn Harrison May, daughter of Judge John Fitzhugh May and Margaret Field, circa 1835.4,5 Thomas H. Bayly was a member of the Virginia Assembly, a circuit judge, and was elected to Congress from the Eastern Shore district for six terms, succeeding his cousin, Henry A. Wise, who had represented the district the previous six terms, and who had resigned to become the Minister to Brazil (Memoir of General John Cropper, p. 39). Thomas was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Thos. H. Bayly, a 40 year old lawyer with real estate valued at $70,000. To my loving wife Jane O. Addison the plantation and houses on which I now live and the lands and houses I purchased of Thomas S. Brickhouse, the lands I purchased of Thomas Simkins, in right of his wife, the lands I purchased of George Fisher, the lands I purchased of Major S. Pitts Esquire which was the property of Benjamin Scott in right of his wife, the lands that were my first wife's, the lands I purchased of my brother Thomas Addison, and one acre I purchased of Littleton Ward, to her and for her free use and disposal. Hinman were the securities on the M.L.B. of Henry Davis of Wm. and Hetty Jester..1 He made a will on 15 July 1844 at Accomack Co, VA. To son William H. Davis my right in land devised to me by my brother William Davis in his will during my life & then to my oldest son & William H. Davis being my oldest son. To my son John W. Davis the farm whereon I now reside provided he shall live to age 21 & if he does not live then to my son William H. Davis. To son William H. Davis my Negro boy Jack, provided my son William shall live to age 21 & if he does not live then to my son John W. Davis. All my slaves shall be hired out until my son William H. Davis shall be of lawful age & then they to my sons William H. & John W. Davis. Continue my store in the store house at present occupied by me so long as it shall be to the interest of my estate until the stock of goods on hand at my death are disposed of ... Sell the house now vacant on the north part of the farm where I now live. To my wife ... To my wife during her life ... & if she shall marry during her life or at her death then to my 2 sons William & John. Remainder to my 2 sons William H. Davis & John W. Davis. James W. Custis Extr.
