According to the 1860 Census, Henry A. Hall was born 1855 and his brother Allen was born 1853. According to Acc marriage records, Allen J. Hall, born 1855, son of Asa and Cordelia Hall married Amanda W. Lewis. However, subsequently Amanda's husband is referred to as Henry A. Hall and in his obituary as Henry Allen Hall. It is therefore assumed that the older brother, Allen, b.c. 1853, died young, and his younger brother Henry A. is the one that married Amanda Lewis, and was listed on the marriage record as Allen J. Hall, subsequently known and referred to as Henry Allen Hall. According to Kirk Mariner's book, Revival's Children, Henry A. Hall, one of the founding memebers of Hall's Chapel Church in Messongo, donated the land on which the church was built. It was originally organized in 1886 by members of the Methodist Church in Sanford. The church was known as the Messongo Baptist Church until 1887, when it was renamed Hall's Chapel after Henry A. Hall. The Sanford Church records shows a Herny A. Hall on the roll in 1908 and 1917. Henry was born on 13 March 1854 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.2 He was the son of Asa Hall and Cordelia Broadwater. Henry was listed with his parents in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Henry A. Hall, age 5 in HH#263 headed by Asa Hall, a 41 year old waterman..3 Henry was listed with his parents in the census of in 1870 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Henry Hall, a 16 year old sailor..4 He married Amanda W. Lewis on 12 November 1879 at Accomack Co, VA. They were married by John Wesley Hilldrup. He was shown as Allen J. Hall, age 24 and and oysterman and Amanda was age 16..1 He made a will on 30 May 1916 at Accomack Co, VA. Henry was living after 1918 at Hallwood, Acc Co, VA. After funeral expenses and debts, everthing to my wife Amanda W. Hall as long as she remains my widow. Should she marry again all my estate to go to my son and daughter, William A. Hall (1/2) and Amanda S. Hall (1/2). Executor: Amanda W. Hall. Witnesses: Melvin E. Witham and William S. Sparrow..5 Henry died on 24 August 1922 at Hallwood, Acc Co, VA, at age 68. Captain Henry Allen Hall, son of the late Asa Hall and Cordelia his wife, departed this life on 24 Aug 1922, aged 68 years, 5 months, 11 days (13 Mar 1854). He was born in Sanford, VA, and has lived in Hallwood for the past four years. He was a member of the Hallwood Methodist Protestant Church, and was a good Christian, always found at his place in the church, until the affliction came which caused his death. His last day's work was for the interest of the church, which was on the 4th of July. His suffering was intense, but he bore it with much patience, and was perfectly resigned to the will of God. The funeral services were conducted in the church on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by his pastor, Rev. M.E. Hungerford and assisted by Rev. E.L. Bunce, of Pocomoke City. Survivors, honorary pall-bearers and active pall-bearers were listed (Acc News, 15 Sep 1922)..5 His body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.2 Henry's will was probated on 15 September 1922 at Accomack Co, VA. $26,000 bond by wife Amanda W. Hall..6
